Does OraOLEDB support passing a Ref Cursor as an IN parameter of a Stored Procedure?

We have a number of Stored Procedures that take a Cursor as an input parameter. Is it possible to call a Stored Procedure of this type with OraOLEDB? If so could you provide a quick sample using VC++/ATL?
Thanks...

Thank you for your reply, Yuancai. It would be very useful if the OLE DB team added such an interface to future versions of TCommand. However, for the time being what is the preferred technique for passing large amounts of data to a stored procedure? For instance we have a number of tables that have fifty or more columns. It would be awkward to call a stored procedure with this many parameters. Ideally, one would want to create a structure as a User Defined Type and pass that as a parameter.
One approach we though of was to pass a XML string though a CLOB parameter and parse it in either a PL/SQL or Java stored procedure. However, while this approach is novel it is not standard. I've found it best to use standard techniques where possible. Any insight you could give would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bryan Wood

  • How to pass a table as parameter on a stored procedure

    Hello all,
    I want to pass the name of a table as parameter into a stored procedure, that will be used for cursors etc.
    But when i pass the parameter and i compile the S.P. it give me error (error: table not existing...)
    Any Help?
    Thanks in advance, Marco

    Marco wrote:
    As i've written above, i'm using stored procedures like 'batch' programs which will be executed with oracle scheduler (passing to s.p. the name of the 'input' tables)
    These input tables are 'external' tables which have got the same structure; for example i've got TABLEX_001, TABLEX_002, XXTAB etc. with the same structure.
    This is the the reason... what do you think?An external table definition can reference multiple files via the LOCATION definition or you can user "ALTER TABLE" to alter the location and change the file that the external table points to.
    Thus you only need one static External Table and use an alter table (via execute immediate) to change the file location it points to, or if you want all the data together, just specify all the files in the location.
    That would be clean design, using one fixed table, without the need to pass any table names, just dynamically altering the file names if necessary at run time.

  • Cache "dist-test" does not support pass-through optimization

    I have noticed this message in the log of my Extend proxy JVM. It is logged at INFO level.
    The cache dist-test does not support pass-through optimization for objects in internal format. If possible, consider using a different cache topology.

    Hi Jonathan,
    You are getting the warning because a near cache caches Objects. Since the the proxy service is using POF, it must deserialize the POF serialized value in order to put it in the near cache. You don't see the message when you cache directly to the dist-default scheme because that scheme is configured to use POF, which allows the proxy service to pass the POF serialized value directly through to the distributed cache service.

  • How to pass the parameter of a stored procedure to iReport

    Hi... i don't know how to pass the parameter of the stored procedure to the iReport.
    In the Report Query, i tried
    1. sp_storedprocedure ' value'
    2. sp_storedprocedure +''''+$P{parameter}+''''+
    3. sp_storedprocedure +$V+$P{parameter}++$F($F is a variable having a value of ' (a single quote))may you enlighten us please? thank you

    For M$ SQL server I find that it only works when U use the fully qualified name...
    e.g. catalod.dbo.my_procedure_name 'variable'
    My full query in the Report Query window is something like this:
    EXEC arc.dbo.jasper_Invoice 1000
    Note that you may find that selecting from VIEWS / TABLES fails for no apparent reason and iReport will prompt you with the usual very unhelpful (we have what we "pay" for) prompt, stating that "The document is empty".
    To work around this issue, where a statement like "SELECT * FROM arc.dbo.acc_invoices WHERE Invoice_id=1000" does not work, simply create a PROC, something like:
    CREATE PROC jasper_MyProc (@my_rec_id integer) AS
    SELECT * FROM arc.dbo.acc_invoices WHERE Invoice_id= @my_rec_id integer
    ...to wrap your SELECT statement, then call the PROC

  • Passing Multi-Value Parameter to a Stored Procedure

    Has anyone experienced passing a Parameter (MultiValue) to a Stored Procedure? I am aware that Crystal Passes the Param as an Array. How would you go about handling this within a Stored Procedure???

    Hi Daniel
    Try as below:
    1. Create a Crystal report, and add a multi-value parameter.
    2. Since the multi-value parameter is treated as an array, create a formula that uses the JOIN function. Create a formula as below:
    //Formula: @JoinFormula
    Join ({?Multi-value parameter array},";")
    ====================
    NOTE:
    In the formula above, a semi-colon (";") is the delimiter.
    ====================
    3. Within the main report, create a subreport based on the stored procedure, and include the parameter to be populated with the multi-value list.
    4. Link the Join formula in the main report to the stored procedure parameter in the subreport.
    Doing so passes a multi-value parameter to the stored procedure.
    Hope this helps!!!!

  • Would like to pass multi-value parameter to a stored procedure

    Hi,
    Is it possible to pass a multi-value parameter to a stored procedure using crystal reports.
    Is there is a way to do so??/
    Thanks,
    Brian.

    Hi,
    Is it that you want to pass 2 or more parameters to a stored proc. it is possible
    go to database expert
    select your connection and click on add command their you will have to create parameters and pass to a proc
    for ref..
    {CALL `menagerie`.`sp_timer`({?delay time},{?delay time2})}
    where `menagerie`.`sp_timer` is a stored proc.
    and delay time and delay time2 are  parameters.
    but if it is like you have to pass multiple values to stored proc using single parameter as per my experience its
    not possible.

  • Pass a datarow as input parameter in a stored procedure

    Hi everyone!
    I wonder if anyone know how to pass a datarow (better if tipized like "tablenameRow") as input parameter for a stored procedure.
    links or suggestions are welcome! (i'm newbie in .net programming, so if you can post some code i'll be really grateful!)
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    YES!! its possible you can pass a datarow to a SP from your Dot net application.
    Here below i'm going to give you an example for Desktop Application.
    For Passing a datarow as Input Parameters, your SP need to support for all these parameters.
    I mean, if a data row has 03 Columns. Then your procedure should be able to take 03 arguments/parameters.
    --Adjust code according to your need.
    --Its for C# Desktop application.
    --Visual Studio Professional, Framework (2.0)
    //Setting connections.
    OracleConnection con=new OracleConnection("Data Source=orcl9i; user id=scott; password=tiger");
    OracleComand cmd=new OracleCommand(con);
    cmd.Type=CommandType.StoredProcedure; //you are useing SP
    cmd.Text="my_stored_procedure"; //Mention SP name.
    --if DataRow has Three columns. You need three parameters.
    OracleParameter p1=new OracleParameter ();//By default parameters are input parameters.
    OracleParameter p2=new OracleParameter ();
    OracleParameter p3=new OracleParameter ();
    //We assume that Datarow already has data in it.
    p1.ParametersName="sp_var1 ";
    p1.OracleDbType=OracleDbType.Varchar;
    p1.Value=tablenameRow[1]; //Here DataRow object's Column1 is input.
    p2.ParametersName="sp_var2 ";
    p2.OracleDbType=OracleDbType.Varchar;
    p2.Value=tablenameRow[2]; //Here DataRow object's Column2 is input.
    p3.ParametersName="sp_var3 ";
    p3.OracleDbType=OracleDbType.Varchar;
    p3.Value=tablenameRow[3]; //Here DataRow object's Column3 is input.
    cmd.OracleParameter.Add(p1); //Add parameters.
    cmd.OracleParameter.Add(p2); //Add parameters.
    cmd.OracleParameter.Add(p3); //Add parameters.
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); //Execute Procedure here.
    Feel free to ask if still found problem.

  • How to pass parameter from 1 stored procedure to another stored procedure inside crystal report

    Hi
    I have several stored procedure in my Crystal Report. I am wondering if it is possible for me to pass a parameter to one of the stored procedure and to use the result of that stored procedure E.g. CustomerCode. To another 2 stored procedure to generate the report dynamically?
    I have 3 stored procedure
    The 1st one is used to gather information and process the calculation
    another 2 stored procedure is used for generate the graph and both of them required to take 2 parameters. The 1st stored procedure will require 1 parameter (E.G. Reference Code) and will return a set of information including the data that could be use on the other 2 stored procedures.
    After I added these 2 stored procedure, it requires me to pass 3 parameters to the report. I would like to know if I could only pass the Reference Code for stored procedure 1 and use it to retrieve the information for the other 2 parameter?
    Thanks in advance
    Chi

    Hi Chi
    To pass parameter from 1 stored procedure to another stored procedure, you will have to create sub report. In your case you will have to create 2 sub reports for 2nd and 3rd stored procedure and link those sub reports with the main report using Reference Code field in order to pass the values.
    After creating the report when you will refresh the report, it will ask 4 parameters, one parameter for main report, one for the first subreport and two for second subreport to fetch the data correctly.

  • Pass an array of a user defined class to a stored procedure in java

    Hi All,
    I am trying to pass an array of a user defined class as an input parameter to a stored procedure. So far i have done the following:
    Step 1: created an object type.
    CREATE TYPE department_type AS OBJECT (
    DNO NUMBER (10),
    NAME VARCHAR2 (50),
    LOCATION VARCHAR2 (50)
    Step 2: created a varray of the above type.
    CREATE TYPE dept_array1 AS TABLE OF department_type;
    Step 3:Created a package to insert the records.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE objecttype
    AS
    PROCEDURE insert_object (d dept_array);
    END objecttype;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY objecttype
    AS
    PROCEDURE insert_object (d dept_array)
    AS
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN d.FIRST .. d.LAST
    LOOP
    INSERT INTO department
    VALUES (d (i).dno,d (i).name,d (i).location);
    END LOOP;
    END insert_object;
    END objecttype;
    Step 4:Created a java class to map the columns of the object type.
    public class Department
    private double DNO;
    private String Name;
    private String Loation;
    public void setDNO(double DNO)
    this.DNO = DNO;
    public double getDNO()
    return DNO;
    public void setName(String Name)
    this.Name = Name;
    public String getName()
    return Name;
    public void setLoation(String Loation)
    this.Loation = Loation;
    public String getLoation()
    return Loation;
    Step 5: created a method to call the stored procedure.
    public static void main(String arg[]){
    try{
    Department d1 = new Department();
    d1.setDNO(1); d1.setName("Accounts"); d1.setLoation("LHR");
    Department d2 = new Department();
    d2.setDNO(2); d2.setName("HR"); d2.setLoation("ISB");
    Department[] deptArray = {d1,d2};
    OracleCallableStatement callStatement = null;
    DBConnection dbConnection= DBConnection.getInstance();
    Connection cn = dbConnection.getDBConnection(false); //using a framework to get connections
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDept = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("DEPT_ARRAY", cn);
    ARRAY deptArrayObject = new ARRAY(arrayDept, cn, deptArray); //I get an SQLException here
    callStatement = (OracleCallableStatement)cn.prepareCall("{call objecttype.insert_object(?)}");
    ((OracleCallableStatement)callStatement).setArray(1, deptArrayObject);
    callStatement.executeUpdate();
    cn.commit();
    catch(Exception e){
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    I get the following exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation
    My question is can I pass an array to a stored procedure like this and if so please help me reslove the exception.
    Thank you in advance.

    OK I am back again and seems like talking to myself. Anyways i had a talk with one of the java developers in my team and he said that making an array of structs is not much use to them as they already have a java bean/VO class defined and they want to send an array of its objects to the database not structs so I made the following changes to their java class. (Again hoping some one will find this useful).
    Setp1: I implemented the SQLData interface on the department VO class.
    import java.sql.SQLData;
    import java.sql.SQLOutput;
    import java.sql.SQLInput;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class Department implements SQLData
    private double DNO;
    private String Name;
    private String Location;
    public void setDNO(double DNO)
    this.DNO = DNO;
    public double getDNO()
    return DNO;
    public void setName(String Name)
    this.Name = Name;
    public String getName()
    return Name;
    public void setLocation(String Location)
    this.Location = Location;
    public String getLoation()
    return Location;
    public void readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName)throws SQLException
    public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream)throws SQLException
    stream.writeDouble(this.DNO);
    stream.writeString(this.Name);
    stream.writeString(this.Location);
    public String getSQLTypeName() throws SQLException
    return "DOCCOMPLY.DEPARTMENT_TYPE";
    Step 2: I made the following changes to the main method.
    public static void main(String arg[]){
    try{
    Department d1 = new Department();
    d1.setDNO(1);
    d1.setName("CPM");
    d1.setLocation("LHR");
    Department d2 = new Department();
    d2.setDNO(2);
    d2.setName("Admin");
    d2.setLocation("ISB");
    Department[] deptArray = {d1,d2};
    OracleCallableStatement callStatement = null;
    DBConnection dbConnection= DBConnection.getInstance();
    Connection cn = dbConnection.getDBConnection(false);
    ArrayDescriptor arrayDept = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("DEPT_ARRAY", cn);
    ARRAY deptArrayObject = new ARRAY(arrayDept, cn, deptArray);
    callStatement = (OracleCallableStatement)cn.prepareCall("{call objecttype.insert_array_object(?)}");
    ((OracleCallableStatement)callStatement).setArray(1, deptArrayObject);
    callStatement.executeUpdate();
    cn.commit();
    catch(Exception e){
    System.out.println(e.toString());
    and it started working no more SQLException. (The changes to the department class were done manfully but they tell me JPublisher would have been better).

  • DB proc - do you need to create a table to pass a ref cursor record type?

    I want to pass a limited selection of columns from a large table through a DB procedure using a REF CURSOR, returning a table rowtype:
    CREATE OR REPLACE package XXVDF_XPOS_DS021_ITEMS AS
         TYPE XXVDF_XPOS_DS021_ITEM_ARRAY
         IS REF CURSOR
         return XXVDF_XPOS_DS021_ITEM_TABLE%ROWTYPE;
    Do I need to create this dummy table?
    I can't get a TYPE to work, where the type is an OBJECT with the desired columns in it.
    So a dummy empty table will sit in the database...
    Is there another way?
    thanks!

    You can use RECORD type declaration:
    SQL> declare
      2   type rec_type is record (
      3    ename emp.ename%type,
      4    sal emp.sal%type
      5   );

    10   open rc1 for select ename, sal from emp;
    11   loop
    12    fetch rc1 into rec1;
    13    exit when rc1%notfound;
    14    dbms_output.put_line(rec1.ename || ' ' || rec1.sal);

  • Does Toplink support PL/SQL storedProcedure (cursor + join operation)

    Hi,
    Context:- There are two table with relation (Emp, Dept). I am getting data from both table by using Join opeation.
    I am working on Toplink storedProcedureCall and want to get PL/SQL Cursor + join operation
    for example:- select d.dname,e.ename,e.sal from emp e, dept d where e.deptno=d.deptno;
    it's working fine but, when I am dragging DataControl on Form it's only showing EMP attribute but, I need to both EMP,DEPT attribute so that I can display ADF readonly Table control.
    please, help me out. Thanking You.
    regards,
    sufi

    Hello Adilz,
    You seem to have posted a number of times trying to get cursors to work. Cursors do work, and in this case it looks like your stored proc is not working because the procedure you are calling does not accept any output variables - hence the error stating the wrong number of arguments.
    Try defining read_emp and ename in your stored procedure definition in the database.
    Best Regards,
    Chris

  • Pass BLOB as parameter to Packaged Stored Procedure

    Does JDBC (thin or otherwise) support passing a BLOB as a parameter to a packaged stored procedure in Oracle, or do we have to do an 'insert' statement to get it in?
    All the articles I've seen seem to refer to insert and select, but I want to strictly enforce all access to the database being through a package rather than table level access.
    We've certainly had no difficulty receiving blobs from the resultset returned by our packaged procedures.
    Any help appreciated,
    Thanks
    Jason.

    Can someone please demonstrate exactly how to use formula results as date parameters to a SQL stored procedure?  Keep in mind, there are two parameters to the stored procedure.
    I have gleaned this much: Use Add Command and insert the procedure with
    EXEC ServerName.dbo.usp_sprocName;1 '{?StringParameter}'
    but if I try to do
    {CALL ServerName.dbo.usp_SprocName({@Formula1},{@Formula2})}
    then it gives the error "No value given for one or more required parameters".
    Both of the parameters are VARCHAR(50).
    I have finally found this link: [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms710248(VS.85).aspx|http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms710248(VS.85).aspx]
    This Microsoft site defines the format of the ODBC escape sequences, but I still do not know how to convince Crystal to insert it's parameter results or formula results.

  • Pass parameter values for stored procedure in URL, possible?

    Hi, everyone, Our system is Apex4.0.2 in Linux CentOS 5 on Oracle 11GR2, here is the procedure:
    create or replace  procedure  test_public(Cust_id integer)
    is
    begin
    owa_util.mime_header( 'text/xml', FALSE );
    owa_util.mime_header( 'application/octet', FALSE );
    -- Close the HTTP Header
    owa_util.http_header_close;
    htp.p(DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML('SELECT * FROM demo_orders where customer_id='|| cust_ID));
    end;
    +/+
    the call to the stored procedure is SUCCESSFUL when Test_public has no parameters, like:
    http://myserver/apex/myschema.test_public (OK)
    the question is : I want to pass 3 parameters into my stored procedure(on production procedure), just don't know How?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

    Thanks, Vee, definitely working, I do appreciate your help.
    I have to use Stored Procedure in Apex: my goal is to setup RESTful web service for IOS and Andriod alike, but APEX RESTful only supports SQL Report ( the RESTFUL check Box goes away with PL/SQL returning Query report, much to my surprise), I need expose some data and the same time I need insert/update some data when the client consumes our data, a PL/SQL based Report will do, but as I found out only simple SQL report has RESTful service, a Before REGION Process will do too, but web service connection WON'T fire that process (normal page display will fire the process) so I'm out of option.... Man I wish APEX REST is not so so basic....
