DOM Traversal and API documentation (missing?)

Dear Community,
I recently dived into the world of XML. So far I have done some reading and try-outs. What I am wondering about now is:
Why are there packages for org.w3c.dom.html or events or ls or traversal etc given to me when I am importing them in eclipse that are not given in the API specifications?
For instance. I wanted to try some stuff with the traversal Module of DOM. Therefore I have to import org.w3c.dom.traversal.*
Well, this works fine. I was able to play around with some examples. But when I tried to find this package in the API specifications, I didn't find it. There were evens and ls etc...but traversal didn't show up!
So, is there a reason that some packages with their interfaces are documented and others are not? And why are there packages available when they are not documented, at all? Yes, I know. I could got to w3c.org and have a look there since this is will give me all the infos I need. But, frankly, I don't understand it. If one would argument this way, then why put in the w3c package at all?
But maybe there is a reason for this which I am not aware of. Or is there any extra API available compareable to the APIs for JSP or Java Servlets? These are extra packages and, of course, extra technologies since one needs Tomcat etc...
So, maybe someone here could enlighten me? :-)
Regards
Marcel

Not all classes are necessarily documented. For example sometimes the interface is documented, and the implementations are not, for a variety of reasons but largely because you're supposed to work with the interface only.
However in this case, I'm guessing that you're using an added library, and you're looking at the documentation for something else.

  • JMF 2.1.1e API Documentation is Removed from Sun

    Hi All,
In the last few days i'm not able to browse the JMF 2.1.1e API Documentations pages, its automatically redirecting to JMF 2.0 API documentation where there are no document for some important api's like RTPManager.
Have any one downloaded the API Documentation from sun.com previously, If so please send it to my mail id - [email protected]
Or is there any other link to JMF 2.1.1e API documentation pls reply.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Karthikeyan R

    Check your mail..
By the way. Did you report the broken links to Sun?
I was so irritated at finding all the details of classes missing, that I did not think to report it.
The missing JavaDocs may be a simple oversight.
    Edited by: AndrewThompson64 on May 18, 2008 1:03 AM
OK.. found the motivation to report it. Here is the report I submitted.
This thread complains of missing JavaDocs for the JMF classes
    [http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10256685]
Somebody replied that they are here..
But this is only the 'top level' documents, and every link from those pages that I have tried so far, is a '404'.
For example, 1st links in the left hand frames..
Top frame. The link to the javax.media package
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/apidocs/javax/media/package-frame.html]
Bottom frame. The link to the ActiveReceiveStreamEvent class
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/apidocs/javax/media/rtp/event/ActiveReceiveStreamEvent.html]
Also tried Processor, RTPManager and a few others. All '404'.
What gives? Is this an oversight, or another step in Sun's gradual abandonment of JMF?
(And if it is the latter, isn't it better to put the poor programmers out of their misery by making a public announcement re the status and future of JFM, and removing the top level of those JavaDocs?)

  • LDAP API documentation

    Hello,
I have downloaded and installed the Sun Directory Server Enterprise Edition from the tar distribution. I have found the client API documentation for java, but I cann't seem to find the C API documentation. I have found the C examples, and the Javadoc, but no C documentation. I have to write clients for both C and Java applications so I need both.
The documentation pointed to by http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1224.3 "Sun Java System Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.2 Developer's Guide" only appears to be for server plugin development. Can someone point me to a 6.2 client API developers guide or something.
    Thanks

Well I think I've found the latest documentation from http://wiki.mozilla.org/LDAP_C_SDK. I've putted the files from the CVS repository but cann't seem to get them converted from docbook format to html or pdf. • Internal and external documentation

    Hi,
is there a feature to create different levels of documentation with javadoc?
I'm working on an application which will expose an
API to the user. The user should get a javadoc api
documentation much like that standard java api,
while our internal developers can also see additional
    comments.
    Spieler

There are various ways to achieve this. If you want internal
engineers to see private implementation, then use the -private
    option.
If you using 1.4, you can include the source code in the
output (called -src in Beta2, and -linksource in Beta 3, soon
    to be released)
In 1.4, we have introduced the -tag option, which enables
you to add comments for internal only. You could
create a new tag @my.internal that holds internal comments.
Then output them with -tag my.internal:a:"Internal:"
This is not as easily done in 1.3.
Anything else you want to do?
