Doubt in sql query

hi frs,
i have a doubt in sql query.
this is my query
select * from scott.emp where comm like '3%'it will fetch all the values starting with 3.
2nd query
select * from scott.emp where comm like '%'this will give all the values except null. but i want to get null values also.how can i get i have used following query
select * from scott.emp where comm like '%' or comm is not nullits working whether there is an any other option.because i am going to use similar kind of condition in my report query if iam going to use or in where condition it will affect the performance.
pls help
regards
Rajesh

Hi Rajesh,
I'm sure I do not understand your requirement correctly.
You say you want to retrieve rows that have or have not null in colum 'comm', right?
If so, simply get rid of this part of your where clause (provided you have more conditions).
select * from scott.emp shall be enough.
Cheers,
Guido

    Hi Rob Schenk & sivamurugesh
    As per you asked following is the thread which i have posted. Please do have a look.
    The query is inside the procedure its a dynamic query thats y there would be lots of sub-queries which canot be put in a single sub-query.

  • Doubt on SQl query for invoices

    Hi All,
    I have a query which pulls the payment proposal for the standard invoices and credit memo's
    being posted into the system from the table BKPF and BSIK.
    I just want to pull the payment proposal for standard invoices rather than credit memo's.
    I found that the only difference is the field SHKZG i.e Debit/Credit indicator.
    But i also want to see if it impacts subsequent Debit and Subsequent Credit since
    i see these value in Value range of the field.
    thanks,

    Hello ,
    if  Credit\ debit  info is required you have to use BSEG and VBSEGK for items details for the header

  • Doubt regarding SQL execution

    Hi Friends,
    Am using Oracle 10g DB - 10.2.0.3.0
    I have some basic doubts regarding sql query execution by Oracle.
    Say, Am executing a query from a toad/sqlplus session for the first time, it takes 10 secs then 1 sec and so on.
    Same thing happens for every 15 minutes.(Any specific reason for this ??).
    It takes more time when it executes first because of parsing and all those stuff but from then on it picks from the
    shared pool right??.. How long will it be there in Shared Pool does Oracle maintain any specific time period to clear that query from shared pool memory. How does Oracle handle this.
    Another thing is, say, I have a report query, I run this query monthly. What will be the execution time when I run this query each and every month. Will Oracle parse this query everytime I run. How do I improve the performance in this situation (May sound odd :)).
    Regards,
    Marlon

    Say, Am executing a query from a toad/sqlplus session for the first time, it takes 10 secs then 1 sec and so on.
    Same thing happens for every 15 minutes.(Any specific reason for this ??).
    It takes more time when it executes first because of parsing and all those stuff but from then on it picks from the
    shared pool right??.. How long will it be there in Shared Pool does Oracle maintain any specific time period to clear that query from shared pool memory. How does Oracle handle this. Share Pool caches the SQL statement. So when you execute the same SQL for the second time it goes for a soft parse. But this is not the only reason for the query to execute faster the second time. The time difference between a soft parse and hard parse is very minimal. So it really does not matter unless you are executing the same query several number of times.
    The thing that really matters is the Data Buffer Cache. That is the rows that are selected by your query are cached into the Data buffer that is available in the SGA. So for the next time when you run the same query the IO is reduced as the data is available in the memory and you don't have to go to your disk to get the data.
    But the data in Data Buffer is not persistent, meaning it follows the FIFO rule. That is first in first out. When the Data Buffer is full the content of the buffer is removed in the FIFO order.
    Another thing is, say, I have a report query, I run this query monthly. What will be the execution time when I run this query each and every month. Will Oracle parse this query every time I run. How do I improve the performance in this situation (May sound odd :)). Like the Data Buffer the Shared Pool is also maintained in the FIFO order. So if the query is still in the Shared Pool the query will be soft parsed else it will be hard parsed. But its very rare that you will have a query in your Shared Pool for a month.

  • Doubt in conversion of SQL query to oracle

    Hi guys,
    I'm new to oracle. I have a SQL query like the following,
    Select * From my_table With(Index(PK_my_key))
    I want to convert this to oracle. How can I specify the syntax *'With(Index(PK_my_key)) '* in oracle.
    Please advice.
    Ram

    Is it possible to test that and find out the performance of the query? You need to check the execution plan of the query.

  • Modes and Methods in Tag Query and SQL Query

    Hi,
    Can someone explain me about the modes available in <b>TAG Query and SQL Query.</b>
    TAG Query has modes such as <b>Current, CurrentWrite, GroupList, History, HistoryEvent, ModeList, Statistics and TagList</b>
    SQL Query i still have doubt on <b>FixedQuery with output , Modelist and TableList</b>
    I also need to know why methods are used?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Muzammil

    I'll try to  explain to the best of my knowledge :
    <u><b>TagQuery</b></u>
    <b>Current</b> : Gives you the current value of the Tag you are reading.
    <b>CurrentWrite</b> : Let you write a Value as the Current Value of the Tag.
    <b>GroupList</b> : Generally Tags are grouped under different groups. Returns you the name of the Groups.
    <b>From the xMII Help Document :</b>
    <b>History</b> : History Mode returns interpolated data.  Interpolation can be accomplished by specifying either the # of rows desired or the retrieval resolution.  If the mode is "History" and a value is provided for the Resolution parameter (which is in seconds), the connector will retrieve evenly-spaced values starting at the beginning of the time interval, up to the maximum # of rows specified in the RowCount parameter.  If no value is provided for the Resolution parameter, the connector will return an evenly-spaced number of values based on the value of the RowCount parameter.
    For example, if the time interval is 1 hour, Resolution is 15, and RowCount is 240, the connector will return evenly spaced values each 15 seconds, up to 240 values (which would span the entire hour).
    If the time interval is 1 hour, Resolution is not provided or is set to zero, and RowCount is 120, the connector would return 120 evenly spaced values, at an effective interval of 30 seconds.
    <b>HistoryEvent Mode</b> : The connector can provide historical values "as they were stored" the database.  This mode provides no interpolation of values.
    <b>Statistics Mode</b> : When retrieving data for statistical calculations, the connector utilizes the same techniques as in the "HistoryEvent"  mode.  It is important to note that the first two returning columns in the HistoryEvent query must be the timestamp and the value, in that order.  The SAP xMII Statistical processor expects that order, or errors will occur.  This ensures precision of statistical measurements, particularly time-weighted average, by using the exact storage time and values from the historical database.  The SAP xMII system provides the statistical calculations.
    <b>Modelist</b> : Basically returns the modes of the Query Available. The Data returned is same as the data in the Modes list in the Quert Template Editor.
    <b>Taglist</b> : Returns all the Tags in the Datasource.
    <u><b>SQL Query</b></u>
    <b>Modelist</b> : Same as above.
    <b>TableList</b> : List of all the tables in the database to which the connector connects.
    Again from SAP xMII Help Documentation :
    <b>FixedQueryWithOutput</b> : This mode is used to execute an Oracle stored procedure or function that returns a REF CURSOR as output.  The position of the REF CURSOR is marked by a "?" in the query.  For example:
    <b>Create a table.</b>
    <i>create table usage (id int, name varchar(50));
    insert into usage (id, name) values (1, 'test1');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (2, 'test2');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (3, 'test3');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (4, 'test4');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (5, 'test5');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (6, 'test6');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (7, 'test7');
    insert into usage (id, name) values (8, 'test8');</i>
    <b>Define the stored procedure.</b>
    <i>DROP PACKAGE foopkg;
    CREATE PACKAGE foopkg IS
      TYPE cursortype is ref cursor;
      PROCEDURE test (mycursor in out cursortype);
    END foopkg;
    CREATE PACKAGE BODY foopkg IS
      PROCEDURE test (mycursor in out cursortype) AS
      BEGIN
         open mycursor for select * from usage;
      END;
    END foopkg;
    </i>
    Define a query template for calling the stored procedure.  Enter the following in the FixedQuery tab:
    <b>call foopkg.test(?)</b>
    This template returns all rows from the Usage table.

  • Re NOT EXISTS SQL QUERY

    Hai ,
    I am having doubt regarding NOT EXISTS sql query,
    I want to select rows from table1 where column2 < column3 and column1 value should not exists in another two tables.
    When i tried with NOT IN clause i got the answer but i didnt get when i tried with NOT EXISTS.....can anyone give me the answer....
    select * from TABLE1 where mark2< mark3 AND
    name NOT IN (select name from TABLE2 UNION
    select name from TABLE3);

    Your query can be re-written in the following way by using not exists clause:
    SELECT     *
      FROM     table1 t1
      WHERE     mark2 < mark3
      AND     NOT EXISTS (
           SELECT     1
             FROM     table2
             WHERE     name = t1.name)
      AND     NOT EXISTS (
           SELECT     1
             FROM     table3
             WHERE     name = t1.name)Go through http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:442029737684
    on when to use NOT IN and NOT EXISTS.

  • How to modify a SQL query?

    Hi all,
    I am using Crystal Reports version 10. I have a number of reports that have been written by a software vendor wherby the name of the database they were connected to when the report was written is coded into the FROM command of the reports SQL query, eg "GCUK_2" in the of the SQL snippet below.
    SELECT "Clients"."NAME", "Quotes"."QUOTE_ID", "Quote_Items"."UPRICE", "Quote_Items"."QTY", "Quote_Items"."UOM", "Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID", "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID", "Quote_Items"."STANDARD", "Quote_Items"."SECT_FLAG", "Quote_Items"."DISPORDER", "Quotes"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."SECT_NAME", "Quote_Items"."CNT", "Category_and_Type"."TYPEDESC", "Quote_Items"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."DISP_SORT"
    FROM   ((("GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QTE_CTRL" "Report_Control" INNER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUSAGE" "Quote_Items" ON "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID"="Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID") LEFT OUTER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUOTES" "Quotes" ON
    I have tried setting the Datasource Location, but it doesn't change the query at all. I have read on another forum that you can generate another SQL query using the Database Expert, Current Connections, then right click the Add Command for the database you want to create a SQL command. Is this the only way to update the database names in the query?
    Thanks,
    Scott.

    Hi Sourashree,
    Thanks for that. All the reports were created by the vendor using tables as opposed to the command object. I would have thought that changing the datasource would automatically cause Crystal to rewrite the SQL query syntax, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
    Yes, I've noticed that modifying the record selection will change the sql query. The only way I can see to change the database name in the query is to change to the desired databsource and then remove and re-insert the tables, which will then update the query with the correct name. However, this seems to be a convoluted way of changing the db name in the query.

  • Discoverer Report showing Null VS Show SQL query showing results !!!

    I created a simple Cross Tab Discoverer report from a custom SQL which has a calculation for balances. The output is giving all null values even though there are balances. The output doesn't seem right. So I copied the query from Tools-->Show SQL and ran the query in the TOAD where I'm showing balances for the report. I don't understand why it is not showing in the discoverer. Please help.
    Thanks

  • Issue in creation of group in oim database through sql query.

    hi guys,
    i am trying to create a group in oim database through sql query:
    insert into ugp(ugp_key,ugp_name,ugp_create,ugp_update,ugp_createby,ugp_updateby,)values(786,'dbrole','09-jul-12','09-jul-12',1,1);
    it is inserting the group in ugp table but it is not showing in admin console.
    After that i also tried with this query:
    insert into gpp(ugp_key,gpp_ugp_key,gpp_write,gpp_delete,gpp_create,gpp_createby,gpp_update,gpp_updateby)values(786,1,1,1,'09-jul-12',1,'09-jul-12',1);
    After that i tried with this query.but still no use.
    and i also tried to assign a user to the group through query:
    insert into usg(ugp_key,usr_key,usg_priority,usg_create,usg_update,usg_createby,usg_updateby)values(4,81,1,'09-jul-12','09-jul-12',1,1);
    But still the same problem.it is inserting in db.but not listing in admin console.
    thanks,
    hanuman.

    hi vladimir,
    i didn't find this 'ugp_seq'.is this a table or column?where is it?
    It is a sequence.
    See here for details on oracle sequences:
    http://www.techonthenet.com/oracle/sequences.php
    Most of the OIM database schema is created with the following script, located in the RCU distribution:
    $RCU_HOME/rcu/integration/oim/sql/xell.sql
    there you'll find plenty of sequence creation directives like:
    create sequence UGP_SEQ
    increment by 1
    start with 1
    cache 20
    to create a sequence, and
    INSERT INTO UGP (UGP_KEY, UGP_NAME, UGP_UPDATEBY, UGP_UPDATE, UGP_CREATEBY, UGP_CREATE,UGP_ROWVER, UGP_DATA_LEVEL, UGP_ROLE_CATEGORY_KEY, UGP_ROLE_OWNER_KEY, UGP_DISPLAY_NAME, UGP_ROLENAME, UGP_DESCRIPTION, UGP_NAMESPACE)
    VALUES (ugp_seq.nextval,'SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS', sysadmUsrKey , SYSDATE,sysadmUsrKey , SYSDATE, hextoraw('0000000000000000'), 1, roleCategoryKey, sysadmUsrKey, 'SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS', 'SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS', 'System Administrator role for OIM', 'Default');
    as a sequence usage example.

  • Using a SQL Query in an Alert and Matching a String

    I've created an alert in 12.0.4 using a SQL Query and the field that I'm trying to match is a string.  Originally the query returned multiple rows but when the alert still didn't fire, I modified the query WHERE clause to return only one row:
    NAME                                RESPONSE
    Are area lights working?            No
    My expression in the metric is RESPONSE.  In the Monitor I'm matching a string equal to No.  (Do I need double quotes around the matchvalue?  Single quotes?  No quotes?)  The metric is in the 15min scan group, the role is xMII Developers and I'm in that role. The monitor alert string is ' =  '.  Both metric and monitor are active and I've subscribed to the monitor.  Other alerts in the 15min scan group (all based on tag queries) are firing off properly.
    Why is nothing showing up in the Alert Log?

    David,
    Did you figure out the answer?  If not, I will try to find someone to address your question.

  • Use realational operators in an SQL query??????

    does any one knows how to use realational operators in an SQL query??????
    i wud like to do something like
    select decode(2<3,sysdate,sydate +1) from dual
    but i know decode does not supports relational operators......
    thanx and Regards
    amyt

    You can use a CASE statement which does support relational operators, or if you must use DECODE, then you can use something like:
    SELECT DECODE(SIGN(2 - 3),-1,sysdate,sysdate - 1)
    FROM dual;The SIGN function returns -1 if the expression is < 0, 1 if the expression is > 0 and 0 if the expression is 0. This works for numeric comparisions. You can use the GREATEST or LEAST functions in a similar fashion for character comparisions.
