  • Date format 'mm/dd/yy',mm/dd/yyyy'-output difference???

    Hi All,
    I have a doubt regarding Date Format.
    Here is a procedure to find out the Day of week.
    procedure transformDate(mydate varchar2,myno number)
    is
    v_date date;
    begin
    myprint(chr(10));
    myprint(' Result of OverloadedProcedure2');
    myprint('---------------------------------------');
    v_date:=to_date(mydate,'mm/dd/yy')+myno;
    myprint('The day in which '||to_char(v_date)||' falls is '|| to_char(v_date,'Day'));
    end transformDate;
    SQL> exec OverLoadedProcs.transformDate('10-28-04',2)
    Result of OverloadedProcedure2
    The day in which 30-OCT-04 falls is Saturday
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    The above one works well.
    But if i change the format as given below,
    v_date:=to_date(mydate,'mm/dd/yyyy')+myno;
    SQL> exec OverLoadedProcs.transformDate('10-28-04',2)
    Result of OverloadedProcedure2
    The day in which 30-OCT-04 falls is Thursday
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    i do not get desired output.Why is it so?.Can anyone explain me?
    Regards,
    Sreeji.

    While I always use four digit years, if you want it too work, try
    procedure transformDate(mydate varchar2,myno number)
    is
    v_date date;
    begin
    myprint(chr(10));
    myprint(' Result of OverloadedProcedure2');
    myprint('---------------------------------------');
    v_date:=to_date(mydate,'mm/dd/rr')+myno;
    myprint('The day in which '||to_char(v_date)||' falls is '|| to_char(v_date,'Day'));
    end transformDate;

  • Regarding a date format

    Dear All,
    I have a doubt regarding date formats.
    i have a date = Wed Jun 24 00:00:00 GMT+300 2009
    i want to convert this date in to 24.06.2009
    What i tried is

    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd.MM.yyyy");

    Please help me to solve this ....
    Thanks and Regards,

    "Wed Jun 24 00:00:00 GMT+300 2009" definetely it is not in "General time zone" and "RFC 822 time zone format". But the [SimpleDateFormat api|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html] tell this also
    SimpleDateFormat also supports localized date and time pattern strings. In these strings, the pattern letters described above may be replaced with other, locale dependent, pattern letters. SimpleDateFormat does not deal with the localization of text other than the pattern letters; that's up to the client of the class.
    That's not saying anything about changing what the various bits do, though. It's just saying that a particular Locale might use a different letter sequence to represent hours..."XX" instead of "HH", for example. But the Locale equivalent of "z" would still expect the format "GMT+3:00".
    hey sha_2008 can you tell what values these methods " toLocalizedPattern()" and " toPattern()" returns on SimpleDateFormat object which created the "Wed Jun 24 00:00:00 GMT+300 2009" string.The OP hasn't mentioned anything about how he got the original date string, so we can't assume it came from another SimpleDateFormat object. In fact, it clearly hasn't.

    Hi Friends,
    I have one doubt on WDJ.
    I have done one Application that application having one functionality that is Download data in to Excel. After download data into excel we can change the DATE cell and again upload Excel Data.
    Here what I am getting problem is  download data into SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd.MM.yyyy"); this date forame. And again upload data  into Same date formate

    When I download data into SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy"); this date format that time it will upload successfully.
    This is for Dowload data into Excel
    if(StockEle.getConf_Shp_Date()==null)
    ExcelEle.setConf_Shp_Date("null");
    else
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd.MM.yyyy");

    eleout.setEindt data type is Date.
    How to Solve this issue I want upload this type of date (dd.MM.yyyy).
    Regards
    Vijay Kalluri

    Hi
    Try to format it before sending it back , try using these code
    // Create Date object.  Date date = new Date();
    //Specify the desired date format
    String DATE_FORMAT = "MM/dd/yyyy";
    //Create object of SimpleDateFormat and pass the desired date format.
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT);
    /*  Use format method of SimpleDateFormat class to format the date.  */
    System.out.println("Today is " + sdf.format(date) );

  • Date formats in BI Query designer

    Hi gurus
    We have enhanced our cube 0sd_co3 where we have taken a number of dates such as Railway Receipt date, Actual Goods Issue date, LFdat, thses are only few examples. Now our reporting scenerio demands reporting based on thses dates as given in our time dimensions such as
    YYYYMM        Qty
    but not based on the date mapped in the time dimension in the cube. but based on these dates
    in oracle we have the to_char function through which we change the format of date while writing sql query
    so if there is any option of changing date format in query without changing the modelling
    Pl suggest
    Thanks
    Shivani

    Hi,
    You can create new characteristic of char number 6 . Include it in the data target. Populate it via a update rule ( Routine).
    Use input as standard date (Railway Receipt date) and then pass the value to the new char in the required format (YYYYMM). Follow same thing for other dates also.
    Let me know if you have doubt.

  • DATE format - while defining the table column

    Hi Friends,
    I came across a piece of code which was applying a TO_DATE() function on a date type column.
    I have two tables t1 and t2 and they have col1 and col2 columns respectively of type DATE
    t1
    col1 DATE
    t2
    col2 DATEalso there is a variable var1 and is defined as below:
    var1 DATE;now I have conditions as below in the code:
    AND to_date(t1.col1,'dd/mm/yyyy') = to_date(t2.col2,'dd/mm/yyyy')
    AND to_date(t1.col1,'dd/mm/yyyy') = to_date(var1,'dd/mm/yyyy')This code failed on Production with an error: ORA-01861 literal does not match format string
    I changed the code to remove TO_DATE() and it worked fine. Dev clarified that they used this function so that if the two columns or variable are in diff date format.,..they can be put in sync.
    e.g. if col1 is dd/mm/yyyy and col2 is mm/dd/yyyy then there will be an issue.
    My doubt is.. in a given environment if we are creating a table and defining a column of type DATE , or defining a variable of type DATE, can their format be different at any time? I think No.?
    In what scenario can the date format be different?
    Thanks,

    Having said that date format is only for display purposes, if you tend to avoid the error without changing the code then you can modify the NLS_DATE_FORMAT parameter at session level.
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd-mm-yyyy'
      2  /
    Session altered.
    SQL> select to_date(sysdate,'dd/mm/yyyy') from dual
      2  /
    TO_DATE(SY
    29-12-2008
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'mm-dd-yyyy'
      2  /
    Session altered.
    SQL> select to_date(sysdate,'dd/mm/yyyy') from dual
      2  /
    select to_date(sysdate,'dd/mm/yyyy') from dual
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01843: not a valid month
    SQL> select to_date(sysdate,'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual
      2  /
    TO_DATE(SY

  • Date Formatting Issue

    Hi ,
    I Have Procedure where it take input parameter date value
    for eg
    PROCEDURE P_GET_EMP_DATE(V_DATE IN DATE)
    IS
    V_BEGIN_DATE DATE;
    BEGIN
    SELECT max(BEGIN_DATE) into V_BEGIN_DATE FROM
    emp where TRUNC(APPT_DATE) =V_DATE+90;
    END;
    now my doubt is APPT_DATE is storing the date format in 12/16/2002
    but V_DATE which iam passing to the procedure is in the format
    '14-jul-2008' . When i execute the procedure its compiling and executing
    successfully.
    but when i try to test the single sql manually i get the following error
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected DATE got NUMBER .
    i know to fix the issue we have to do like this
    TO_DATE(TRUNC (APPT_DATE),'YYYY/MM/DD') < = TO_DATE('2007/03/31','YYYY/MM/DD') + 90;
    my doubt is how pl/sql engine interpreting the dates and returning the results
    though there are errors in the query.does it automatically doing formatting
    and type conversions ?

    You seem to be a bit confused about how to work with Oracle dates...
    Basically, we humans represent dates as strings in particular formats: 14th July 2008, 14/07/2008, 07-14-2008, etc.
    Oracle stores dates in its own particular format.
    In order for us to communicate with Oracle's dates, we either manipulate something that's already stored in the database as a date (eg. sysdate or a date column) OR we use the to_date and to_char functions, which convert a string to an oracle date format and vice versa.
    When working with dates in Oracle, you should stick to using the date format. If you're working with things already stored in dates, then great - you've got nothing to worry about conversion wise (and more specifically, never to_date something that's already in the date format!). You only have to worry if you have to specify a particular date as a string - then the to_date function comes into play.
    If you're wanting to output a date, you can either rely on your nls_date_format parameter setting (ok for ad-hoc queries, bad for coded queries!!) or you can explicitly state the format you want it to appear in using to_char.
    Hopefully that's clarified things for you

  • Problem with Date formatting

    Hi Tim,
    I am facing some issues with formatting the date using XMLP. The following is the sample XML data file i am using:
    <LIST_G_HEADER>
    <G_HEADER>
    <QUOTE_HEADER_ID>1455</QUOTE_HEADER_ID>
    <QUOTE_NUMBER>2027</QUOTE_NUMBER>
    <QUOTE_VERSION>1</QUOTE_VERSION>
    <QUOTE_NAME>Test GM Report - Rabindra</QUOTE_NAME>
    <SOURCE_NAME>Fletcher, MR. Paul</SOURCE_NAME>
    <QUOTE_DATE>27-OCT-2005</QUOTE_DATE>
    <CURRENCY_CODE>GBP</CURRENCY_CODE>
    </G_HEADER>
    </LIST_G_HEADER>
    The formatting i use for my date field i.e <QUOTE_DATE>, ends up either with NO formatting or giving me an error "[010906_114656657][][ERROR] Invalid XSD string: 27-OCT-2005 (XMLP Template Viewer)". The default formatting available with the form field dialog box (MS-Word) feature also doesn't work.
    I have the following formatting for this field in the form field:
    <?format-date:QUOTE_DATE; 'MEDIUM' ?>
    When i read the user guide, it reads that the date should be in the canonical format i.e: YYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss+HH:MM
    However i am not getting the date from the base table's in this format. Is the error happening due to incorrect format or is there some other reason behind this? Please let me know, how can i overcome this issue.
    Thx,
    Nitin

    Thank you for your reply
    But it is giving me output as '26-NOV-08'
    And I want in format '2008-11-26 07:38' i.e 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM'.
    >
    Then you are not looking for a date, You are looking for a string.
    The date format that gets displayed is dependent on nls_date_format parameter.
    If you want a string in the format you asked, then,
    SELECT TO_CHAR ( TO_DATE ( '2008-11-26T11:07:38-06:00', 'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SS"-06:00"'), 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MM:SS')
      FROM DUAL;Or if you just want the date to be displayed like that then
    Do,
    SQL> alter session set nls_date_Format="YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS";
    Session altered.
    SQL> SELECT TO_DATE ( '2008-11-26T11:07:38-06:00', 'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SS"-06:00"') dt

  • How to convert the numeric to date format

    HI ,
         We have created the date KF and selected the data type as DEC-numeric or counter and add in the cube.
          the data for this fields in the cube are in numerics like  734.504, but when we execute the report it is converted in to date format dd.mm.yyyy.
                    My issue how this conversion is working in the backend while executing the report.
    Regards.
    venkata

    Conversion is happening because of the type you had selected for the KF while creating it.
    Check the type of the Key figure?
    While creating the KF you might have selected the Type as Date and Data type -DEC : Counter or amount field with comma and sign.
    that's the reason why you are getting the output values displayed in dd.mm.yyyy format.
    For amount field - create a KF with type "AMOUNT" and unit -0currency or specify the currency of that region.

    Hi,
    You can get it from "User" or "Shop" business object.
    Try to get User or Shop Business Object as shown below.
    BusinessObjectManager bom = (BusinessObjectManager) userSessionData.getBOM(BusinessObjectManager.ISACORE_BOM);
    User user = bom.getUser();
    char decimalNotation = user.getDecimalPointFormat().getGroupingSeparator();
    If you are seeing "1,234.00" then above code will return "."
