Download generic file in flex

Hi,
is it possible to let the user download a text file which is
generated at run time?
I don't want to send it to a server side script to save the
file onto the server.
regards,
myatem

right. i want to write the generated string to the filesystem
(the user can select the filename).
I've tryed to call javascript from flex that opens a new
browser window which shows my generated string. But this doesn't
work on my local file system. There is an "sandbox security
violation". I don't want to upload my files on a server before
running them each time.
Now i have written a webservice which i want to call from my
flex app to save the generated string on a server. Then i could
call FileReference.download(URL) to let the user save the generated
file to his local drive.

  • Flash Player Installer downloads from the Adobe distribution site as a generic file without an extension and the file won't open.

    Hi, everyone.
    When I download Flash Player Installer from the Adobe distribution site Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe the file downloads to my hard drive as a generic file with no extension, and Windows can't determine which program to use in order to open/play the file. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
    Is there something wrong with the downloaded file? Or am I missing required software?
    Thank you for your time,
    -Brandon

    Yes, I've never had a problem before. I've even downloaded the Flash Player Install files from the Adobe distribution site on multiple occasions in the past without issue. The only thing I could think of is that perhaps the ".exe" extension was left off to avoid triggering security measures on a computer or private network that would prevent the download.
    Anyway, it worked after I added the ".exe" extension to the filename, so I have no complaints!

  • Why do some downloaded files get "generic" file names?

    Sometimes when I click on a link to download a file the file ends up on my computer with a name corresponding to part of the URL that I clicked on. It only happens when the link doesn't point to a file name but instead calls a serverside process and passes the name/ID of the file to be downloaded. For example, a URL that looked like this:
    http://www.servernamegoeshere.com/digitalAsset/?id=123456 (example - not a working link)
    results in a file named "digitalAsset" on my desktop. I'm sure the issue has something to do with how the file is being sent by the server (HTTP header or MIME info) but I'd like to figure out exactly why that happens so that I can point the server owner in the right direction so that it gets corrected (unless it's a Safari bug). The same ULR works as anticipated in FireFox 2.0.
    Other similar links on the same site that point to PDF files get handled properly (displayed by Safari). The links that don't behave correctly point to Word files.
    Any ideas why this happens?

    Hey there,
    Try this:
    Highlight the tracks in iTunes (hold down the control button to highlight multiple tracks at once) and right-click on them and choose Get Info from the menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. Towards the middle of the window should be a drop down menu for Media type. Choose either audiobook or music, depending on which way you want to organize them. Then hit OK to apply the changes.
    See if that helps.

  • How to download a file version from office 365 using csom

    I need to download an older file version from office 365 and get the data into a byte array. I have no trouble downloading the latest version with File.OpenBinaryStream() and I have no trouble loading the previous file versions with File.Versions. But now
    I need to actually download an older version of the file and it seems the only way is to use File.OpenBinaryDirect. So I am creating a client context using my oAuth access token and providing the correct path, but I am getting a (401) Unauthorized
    error. Looking with Fiddler I can see that the call to OpenBinaryDirect is somehow trying to post to my file URL and the server is responding with 401.
    context = TokenHelper.GetClientContextWithAccessToken(SPHostUrl, AccessToken);
    FileInformation info = File.OpenBinaryDirect(context, "/" + _fileVersion.Url);  //throws 401
    //leading slash required otherwise ArgumentOutOfRangeException
    I have to be able to access the older file versions with my c# code -- I don't have a viable app without that ability -- any help urgently needed and greatly appreciated!

    Thank you SO much (Can't wait for the next release)!
    For anyone else who lands here, here's the code I ended up using:
    // VersionAccessUser and VersionAccessPassword are stored in web.config
    // web.Url is loaded via the clientContext
    // myVersion is the FileVersion I got from the file's Versions.GetById() method
    // probably a lot of ways to get hostUrl, it just needs to be https://yourdomain.sharepoint.com/
    // - I'm running my app from a subweb
    // I had trouble following the links to get the full MsOnlineClaimsHelper code
    // (the one on msdn.com was missing RequestBodyWriter, WSTrustFeb2005ContractClient,
    // and IWSTrustFeb2005Contract
    // so I've included the code I used here.

  • How to download a file from a link within an AIR application ?

    Dear friends, I have created a simple AIR app with Flex, where it basically navigates toa specific URL. It works fine, all the links, and so on... however, when I need to click a specific link to download a file (DOC, XLS, PDF) from it... it just do NOT work !  why is it ? what am I supposed to do to achieve my purpose ? Appreciate any help, thanks in advance !

    Hi Arun,
    Goto AL11 - > click on the directory path and select your file  -open the file - > click on menu item List - >save/send -> file
    -> select the type of file.
    Or you can write a small abap code using DATASETS. If you require I will post the code.
    Hope it helps you.
    Regards,
    Rajani.

  • How to download a file from database

    Hi,
    My flex application contains a form that uploads a file into the server. This file is however saved in the database, and not on the disk. Most of the tutorials in the database explains how to download a file by passing the file's url to the "download" function of the fileReference Object. That dsnt work for me as my file is saved in the database.
    How do I download this file from the server ?
    For example, in php, we would do smthing like this :
    $content = $file_to_download['content'];
    $size = $file_to_download['content_size'];
    $type = $file_to_download['content_type'];
    $name = $file_to_download['filename'];
    header("Content-type:$type");
    header("Content-length:$size");
    header("Content-Disposition:attachment;filename=$name");
    header("Content-Description:PHP Generated Data");
    echo $content;
    When executing this file, it opens up the "download file" dialog box. How do i get the same effect in flex 4 ?

    You need the bytes use FileReference.download() and after download you can save
    it on disk with FileReference.save(); You also need FP 10 at least I think. Use
    the docs they are less error pron than mi memory :).

  • DATA TRANSFER - How to get a SINGLE SPACE in downloaded txt file from UNIX?

    Hi Experts,
    Am sending data from SAP to UNIX/ Application server and text file on desk top as well.
    So, I am keeping a single character just SPACE at the END of each record.
    Then, When I see the downloaded text file, I found a SINGLE SPACE at the end of each record, fine.
    Then, by using CG3Y t code, I downloaded the UNIX file to my desk top.
    But, When I see this UNIX downloaded file from UNIX, I did NOT find any SPACE at the end of each record!!!
    Am doing every thing same in both cases.
    So,
    1 - Why its happening in case of UNIX file?
    2 - How to get a SINGLE SPACE  at the END in the downloaded file from UNIX?
    thanq

    Its there, I am talking abut this -
    OPEN DATASET - linefeed
    Syntax
    ... WITH { NATIVE
             | SMART
             | UNIX
             | WINDOWS } LINEFEED ... .
    Alternatives:
    1. ... WITH NATIVE LINEFEED
    2. ... WITH SMART LINEFEED
    3. ... WITH UNIX LINEFEED
    4. ... WITH WINDOWS LINEFEED
    Effect
    : These additions determine which line end marker is used for text files or legacy text files. If these additions are used, the profile parameter abap/NTfmode is ignored. Simultaneous specification of the values "UNIX" or "NT" in the addition TYPE is not permitted.
    If these additions are not used, the line end marker is determined as follows, depending on the operating system of the current application server:
    The line end marker for Unix is "LF". Under Unix, OS390 and OS400, only "LF" is used for reading and writing.
    The line end marker for MS Windows is "CRLF". Under MS Windows, however, the values of the profile parameter abap/NTfmode can also be used to set whether new files are handled according to Unix conventions or Windows conventions. If the profile parameter has the value "b", the Unix line end marker "LF" is used. If the profile parameter has the value "t" or is initial, the Windows line end marker "CRLF" is used. The setting using the profile parameter can be overridden with the addition TYPE and the value "UNIX" or "NT". If an existing file is opened without the addition TYPE, this is searched for the first line end marker ("LF" or "CRLF"), and this is used for the whole file. If no line end marker is found, the profile parameter is used. This applies particularly if an existing file is completely overwritten with FOR OUTPUT.
    If an addition WITH NATIVE|SMART|UNIX|WINDOWS LINEFEED is used, this setting can be changed for the open file using the statement SET DATASET. If neither of the additions is used, the line end marker also cannot be changed using SET DATASET.
    Notes
    : Without the use of an addition WITH LINEFEED, the line end marker is dependent on diverse implicit factors such as the operating system of the application server, a profile parameter, and line end markings that are already used. For this reason, the explicit use of WITH LINEFEED is recommended, which renders the use of the addition TYPE for setting the line end marker obsolete.
    The line end marker that is currently used can be determined for every open file using GET DATASET.
    Alternative 1
    ... WITH NATIVE LINEFEED
    Effect
    : This addition defines the line end marker independently of the access type according to the operating system of the application server, i.e. "LF" for Unix OS390 or OS400, and "CRLF" for MS Windows.
    The line end marker is interpreted according to the current codepage. If a code page is explicitly specified using the addition CODE PAGE, the characters of the line end marker must exist be available or be written in accordance with this code page.
    Note
    : The addition WITH NATIVE LINEFEED is intended for editing files on an application server that can also be accessed by other means. The addition receives the appropriate line end marker without the program needing to know the operating system.
    Alternative 2
    ... WITH SMART LINEFEED
    Effect
    : This addition depends on the access type:
    In files that are opened for reading using FOR INPUT, both "LF" and "CRLF are interpreted as a line end marker. When opening an EBCDIC file with the addition CODEPAGE, in addition to "LF", "CRLF", and the EBCDIC character strings, the corresponding ASCII character strings are also recognized. In addition, the EBCDIC character "NL" (line separator) is also interpreted as a line end marker.
    In files opened for appending or changing with FOR APPENDING or FOR UPDATE, the program searches for a line end marker that is already used in the file. In this process, first the end of the file is identified. If no line end marker is found there, a certain number of characters at the beginning is analyzed. If a line end marker is found, this is used when writing to the file. This is also affected by the addition CODE PAGE. For example, ASCII line end markers are recognized and used in a file opened with EBCDIC, but not the other way round. If no line end marker is found or no search is possible (for example, if the file is opened with the addition FILTER), the line end marker is determined according to the operating system of the application server, as with the addition WITH NATIVE LINEFEED.
    In files opened for writing using FOR OUTPUT, the line end marker is determined according the operating system of the application server, as with the addition WITH NATIVE LINEFEED.
    Note
    : The addition WITH SMART LINEFEED is intended for the generic editing of files in heterogeneous environments. The line end marker is recognized and set for different formats. The use of this addition is the best solution for most application cases.
    Alternative 3
    ... WITH UNIX LINEFEED
    Effect
    : The line end marker is set to "LF" regardless of the access type and operating system of the application server.
    The line end marker is interpreted according to the current code page. If a code page is specified explicitly using the addition CODE PAGE, the characters of the line end marker must be available or be written according to this code page.
    Note
    : The addition WITH UNIX LINEFEED is intended for editing Unix files in which the specific line end markers are to be retained, even if the operating system of the current application server is MS Windows.
    Alternative 4
    ... WITH WINDOWS LINEFEED
    Effect
    : The line end marker is set to "CRLF" regardless of the access type and operating system of the application server.
    The line end marker is interpreted according to the current code page. If a code page is specified explicitly using the addition CODE PAGE, the characters of the line end marker must be available and be written according to this code page.
    Note
    : The addition WITH WINDOWS LINEFEED is intended for use with MS Windows files in which the specific line end marker is to be retained, even if the operating system of the current application server is Unix, OS390 or OS400.

    I keep getting the message: "what should Firefox do with this file" in Windows XP every time I want to download a file, e.g., adobe, excel, etc. How can this annoying message be deleted? The check box to "open file automatically" does not work!

    cor-el,
    Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

    Due to security issues you can not get programmatic access to local folders with flex web based applications. With Air you can do this as it behaves as a normal desktop application. One workaround which is only of value if the file you want to save is specifically going to be used by the app is to use shared Objects, even this will require user interaction the first time as the shared objects have a fairly small allowable space for saving and the user will be prompted to update that value if required.

  • Is it possible to download multiple files as zip from Amazone S3 directly

    We need to download multiple files from Amazone S3 at a time in a zipped format. We use flex 3 and coldfusion 8 for development.

    Of course it is. Try it. Or, asked differently, what did you try that did not work?

  • Download Temse file-HR_F_MMREF_1_GA.

    Hello All,
    The Magnetic Media file that is generated during W2 processing for State of Georgia is named HR_F_MMREF_1_GA.  Starting this year, Georgia is requiring us to upload the file to their website.  We have attempted to do this but are receiving errors.   When we download from PU19, the downloaded file is 1024 characters in length with 2 records of 512 on each line of the file( using Notepad to review).   This is not acceptable at the State DOR website.   The file will not upload.
    I attempted to use PU12 to export the temse file.  This time there is one record per row of data (Notepad).  GA DOR has reviewed our file and determined that the record length on our file is 550 characters long and should be 512.
    I have checked the layout of the Magnetic file in SPRO and each record type contained in the file is defined as 512 characters in length.   The header record states that it is 512.
    Is there a better way to download TemSe files and capture all of the data with the correct record length?
    Thanks,
    Connie Durham

    I'm using the U.S. Tax Reporting Guide for SAP Payroll Customers Year End 2010 and I'm a little confused regarding the T5UX4 and T5UX5 table referred to on page 47 or topic Generic Solution for reporting multiple tax authorities on the same magnetic media.  I cloned HR_F_MMREF_1 to ZHR_F_MMREF_1_VT so I can report to the State of Vermont.  However I do not need to report to multiple localities.  Do I need to have entries in table T5UX4 and T5UX5?

    I'm not sure what you mean by eBook, but the Flex usage

    http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/
    They are available as PDFs and as part of a zip file that
    contains the entire set of content.
