Drag-n-Drop Illustrator Panel

I'm relatively new to extension building but well versed in HTML/JS. I'd like to build an extension similar to how Illustrator Symbols work where objects can be simply dragged from a panel onto an artboard. Creating Symbol libraries are great, but for larger objects, the preview is very small making it difficult to tell what you're looking at. The idea would be that the panel could display objects at their actual size or include a label describing what the element is.
Wondering if anyone can advise on the complexity of this, how feasible it is to build with EB3, and get pointed in the right direction.
Thanks!

Thanks Hallgrimur.
I've been playing around with EB3, creating sample projects, etc. and it's starting to gel. However, I'm guessing there's a native hook to reference an external file and place it onto the active artboard/canvas. I've searched through the CSInterface and CEPEngine API stuff but it's not apparent what function I would reference to achieve this. I think once I've got that I'm on my way! Appreciate any example you can provide or just pointing me in the right direction. Thank you.

• Problem with Drag and drop in panel dashboard

Hi
I am having problem with drag and drop in panel dashboard.
I will explain what i am doing.
I am using Oracle three column template in First region i am having a table that showing all customer.
I drag one record from my table and drop it on customer info (CIF) page on second region it is working fine.
my CIF page has a dashboard with 6 panel box. i am showing 6 different jsff in 6 panel box.
I put drop target in each jsff
<af:dropTarget dropListener="#{backingBeanScope.backing_customerinformation.handleItemDrop}"
actions="COPY">
<af:dataFlavor flavorClass="org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.RowKeySet"
discriminant="CustomerSearchDnD"/>
</af:dropTarget>
when i put drop target my panel boxes moves only when i drag it to another panel box header not entire part of panel box.
if i remove the drop target then panel box move normally as the example given on: [http://adfui.us.oracle.com:7778/faces-trunk/faces/visualDesigns/dashboard.jspx?_afrLoop=2021391022520156&_afrWindowMode=0&_afrWindowId=null] but in taht case i am not able to drag and drop my data

You must be an Oracle employee as you're referring to a component in the upcoming JDeveloper version which has yet been released to the general public. Oracle employee's are, I believe, directed to post on internal Oracle forums.

• Lost drag and drop properties panel CP8

I developed a project in Captivate 7. It included some drag and drop interactions. I've upgraded to CP8 as we want to be able to release the training on mobile devices.
I have not set it up to be a responsive project at this point - I've not learned enough about how to do that.
I can create and edit new drag and drop interactions but as soon as I save them, close the file and reopen it, they are no longer editable. The drag and drop properties panel won't show up, the D&D outlines (blue and green) disappear, the D&D option in interactions is greyed out and I cannot edit the interaction at all. It still has the submit button in the corner and this cannot be deleted. There doesn't seem to be a way to edit the interaction at all.
When I go to close the file and save it, it tells me that it is a captivate 7 file and as soon as I save it, it won't open in Captivate 7 only 8. Save as just saves it as a Captivate file.
How can I work around this?

Drag&Drop would not work in responsive projects anyway.
Maybe this is due to the upgrade? And I suppose you are working in Newbie mode, where panels are controlled by Captivate? You could try in Expert mode (fourth option 'Enable...' in Preferences) because it will allow you to open the Drag&Drop panel from the Window menu.

You might check out the Drag and Drop tutorial, especially the section Data Transfer with a Custom Component.
Here's another approach using an overlayed non–opaque JPanel as a transfer device. The image label is transfered to the (fake) glass pane and dragged. On mouse release it is added to the JPanel below. Although I didn't build in any boundry–checking it would be a useful thing. Mostly to ensure a suitable drop target and component location in it.

• My drag images disappear when they are dropped on a correct drop target during the drag and drop interaction.

What am I missing. The opacity is at 100%. The drop target is a highlighted box from objects. I am using Captivate 8.

Hi there,
You might want to make sure your Depth setting is not set to Back instead of Front on your drop target(s).
The Depth setting is accessed via the Drag and Drop window/panel under Format setting while you have your drop target selected.
If your Depth setting is set to Back, especially if your opacity is set to 100% on your highlight box/drop target, your drag image would go behind your drop target giving the effect of disappearing behind your highlight box - especially if the drop target is larger than the drag image.

• Air mobile best way to implement drag and drop

I'm developing an application which allows people to drag and drop certain panels.
But the dragmanager isn't optimized for the air mobile platform.
What is the best way to implement drag and drop at the moment?
Write it all yourself or are their some utility classes that can help?

• Disabling drag and drop of jtextfield

Hey folks,
i have a problem concerning drag and drop. I try to build a framework where you can drag and drop all panels like in eclipse. The problem now is that i have JTextfields or JList on this panels who have their own Drag and Drop mechanism. Is there a way to disable this mechanism, so the drag and drop of the underling component (my Dropable Jpanel) is called when i drop a panel on a JTextfield?
Thanks a lot.

Do you try to change focus before drop event occur. I'm not sure, but I think MouseEvent occur before. Read tutorial pages on DnD, you will find there your solution.

• Illustrator Default PDF, if open in Acro Pro, drag and drop other .ai files, will they also....

Hi! I'm trying to archive (for myself and others for easy access) about 50 fairly complex .ai files in a single Illustrator Default PDF and maintain editability and preserve layer and grouping integrity for every separate file, and, i'm probably going to have to do this hundreds of times (at least!) in the future. Once i save the initial first pdf file through Illustrator (wish didn't even have to do this, but seems no way to do in Bridge), then open the resulting pdf w Acrobat Pro, can i then just select an entire folder's worth of ai files in Bridge, drag and drop them into the pages panel and still have the dragged and dropped files also preserve all their AI info and layer/ group integrity? An if not, thinking if not based on 20 similar experiments, what's a fast way to do this. Doing this manually each time: opening each file in AI then saving as AI pdf, then combining and arranging them all after the fact, would be, well, fairly effed in terms of time, carpal tunnel, arthritis etc. Experimented w Bridge PDF Output batching (terrible rasterized lo-res results, but great for its intended purpose) and just dragging and dropping into Acrobat (lose complicated layer names and info, all flattened to single layer). Any help most appreciated, and as i do not have regular access to das interwebs (i live on a boat) would appreciate and heed gentle admonishment if i've misposted or broached any community etiquette here. I've researched this as well as i can but can't find anything efficient/ elegant not involving InDesign, and even then the details are skimpy. Thank You! Getting mentally exhausted and not a little loopy. Keep in mind had to teach myself both Illustrator, Acrobat etc with access to the very limited offline help menus (the boat), so a complex answer involving learning InDesign would be learning curve can't even imagine with everything else struggling to do. But if you're willing to babystep diagram it out for me or can find me a link that does i will not only be eternally grateful but will do my durndest to master it and pass it on....Thanks Again! lil mc szpf
PS If it helps I'm running the diligent dogged dusty beloved workhorse CS4 Design Premium on 27" monitor 2010 Mac (OS X 10.6.8), and took advantage of rare housesitting net access to install all most recent updates of everything, i'm barely competent w AI, PS, BR and been tackling Acrobat for past couple of months now....

im glad that somebody is atleast trying. perhaps i need to be more clear.
i will step by step describe the issue in detail.
1) i open an email that contains an attachment .dxf or .pdf
2) i click on the attachment shown in the email and aprompt comes up asking if i want to open or save the attachment.
3) i select save. (by default it saves to a downloads folder. but i have also chosen to use other folders (when i did that it wouldnt save them)
4) i highlight the downloads arrow on the right top side of my browser and click it
5) it pulls down a list of the files that i USED to be able to click and drag onto my destop, or anyplace i chose
6) used to be when i clicked and held the left mouse button down on top of a file of my choosing it would highlight and as i began to drag, a ghost image would appear of the file i was dragging. showing a (/) symbol next to it showing i couldnt drop the file within the browser and a + simbol showing that i could drop the file when the file was hovering over a place where i could drop the file such as my desktop or other folder. now, when i click and hold on the file.... I DONT get anything. when i drag. nothing follows. while i am "dragging" in the area that is my browser, i get the pointy finger icon. as soon as i enter an area where i could have dropped the file as before, i get my standard cursor arrow.
its really as if the drag and drop feature just dosent work IN FIREFOX.
i can drag and drop files all day long everyplace else.

• Why won't drag and drop work with Library Assets in Illustrator or InDesign?

I've read a couple of threads with people having this issue, some dating back to late summer last year. I tried the fixes offered up in the responses, but haven't had success yet.
All my programs are up-to-date, but I cannot drag and drop graphics from my library into InDesign or Illustrator. Photoshop is working fine.
Are there any actual solutions to this yet?

What kind of graphic are you talking about? In the Library panel (Illustrator) or CC Library panel (InDesign) graphics are identified with a small label to tell what their source is (Ai, ID, PS, SVG, etc.)
And even though you say you have the latest version, exactly what version of InDesign do you have? You can see it in the About InDesign choice under the InDesign menu (Mac) or Help menu (Windows).

• Is there a way to disable drag-and-drop on the pages panel?

Hi, I'm using Indesign CS3 on Windows XP. My computer is a laptop and the problem I'm having is that when I have the pages panel open, I have sometimes drag-and-dropped pages of a document into a new order without meaning to (the laptop touch pad seems made for these butterfingers-type moves). The documents that I'm laying out are several hundred pages long, so sometimes I don't notice that I've screwed a few pages up until much later. If there is any way to just turn this feature off, that would be great. Due to the arrangement in which I usually work best (on a sofa), I would prefer not to have to attach an actual mouse to the laptop. Thank you for any help.

Not that I know of.

• Drag and Drop in CSS Styles Panel

So, I am going through Dreamweaver CS5 Classroom in a Book. In lesson 6, pages 106 through109, it tells you to drag and drop rules in the CSS Styles Panel into a certain order. I can't seem to get it to work for me. Am I missing something?

What do u mean by saying this?? Drag & Drop is possible for
components example Jtree , jtable .These are placed on containers like JApplet, Applet or frame .
So the answer is yes !
there is a seprate package devoted to Drag & Drop.

How do I create a text style in CC libraries? Every time I drag and drop text into library form Photoshop or illustrator it turns it into a graphic.
If I select the text layer and click the text style button in the library it just creates a new text style for Myriad Pro 12pt - I'm not using that anywhere in my document.
Can anyone help? Seems like a bug to me as I'm trying what the video tutorials are saying.
Thanks

I realize AI is an illustration program.
Do you realize it is an object-based vector-based program? Do you know the difference between raster-based and vector-based content?
My question seems to be all over the forum but no one has been able to answer other than exporting to these file formats, which make text look awful and of no use....
And yet everyone else in the world makes proper web images every day using a plethora of programs, including these...go figure.
Am I missing something?
Yep. Pretty much.
Hello Adobe! People use transparency on website logos.
Hello, cocteau! What you're calling "transparency" is inherent to object-based vector artwork. But web browsers don't support object-based vector artwork, except via file formats like Flash and SVG, or by viewing as a PDF in a plug-in version of Reader. Raster imaging in general only supports "transparency" by either indexing a specific color (i.e.; "don't display this color", as in GIF) or including an alpha channel (i.e.; "blend all the pixels with existing pixels, based on values from this extra channel", as in PNG). It's all in the raster file format you use, cocteau; it has little-to-nothing to do specifically with Adobe software. Such things are among the most basic matters understood by someone doing web design.
When I export an eps from .ai file, and open the eps in photoshop,...I save as a gif for the web, it goes back to the original problem...creates jagged text. I"m giving up on this garbage...Thanks a lot adobe! Lower the price of this software if this is all that can be done.
Once it leaves Photoshop (or Illustrator, or whatever) as a non-proprietary raster image format, it's all about what the format can do re "transparency". You can do this stuff with most any graphics program. You should read about basic web design and the differences between raster and vector content, rather than rant.

• Dragging (and dropping) components in a panel

I want to learn how to move a component or image around in a panel and drop it. To also drop other images and then connect the images with a connecting line. I don't really need to go into the Drag and Drop API because I'm just staying in my GUI. Can someone direct me to a resource that might help me?
Gracias,

• Drag and drop to illustrator

Hi All,
Using CS6 Mac, I am un successful in dragging and dropping a scanned image from PS to Illustrator.
In the past i was able to do this with CS3 PC.
Is this task possible?
Mike

Well, try it the way I suggested in post #1:
with both documents open, drag the layer of the Photoshop scan onto the open Adobe Illustrator document.
(...and I promise not even to ask why you're doing that. )
