Dragging markers to timeline WITH MARKER TEXT

hi, i use markers extensively inside captured clips. when i drag a marker from the Browser to the Timeline, sometimes it copies the marker text, sometimes just the name of the clip.
it's weird behavior and i haven't figured out when it chooses one or the other option.
how can i insure that the marker text ALWAYS comes along when i drag to the timeline?

When I create clip markers with text comments I do so in the Viewer. I use the F9 key to bring them into the timeline and they always include the text comments.
With your clip highlighted in the timeline, and the playhead on the clip press shift + Up Arrow to back to the precise marker (shift + Down Arrow goes forward)
Then press the "m" key to read your text coment

A drag and drop game with dynamic text response

Hi,
I am a teacher and my school has recently upgraded to Adobe Design Premium. Our previous version was about 5 versions out of date.
I teach A Level which requires students to create an Interactice Multimedia product.
In the previous 6 years, I have taught students how to create simple drag and drop game with dynamic text responses.
Since the upgrade to Actionscript 3.0 the dynamic text response has ceased working.
When creating the game from scratch, I need to move to Actionscript 2.0 as 3.0 does not allow me to add actionscript to objects - I know and am sure that this is a better way of doing things, but I would prefer to keep working the way I am used to.
I use a switch case statement which I have copied below to make the drag and drop work. The objects I apply the code to work in that they can be dragged, however, my dynamic text box with a variable name of "answer" is no longer displaying the response when an answer is left on a dropzone (rectangle converted to a symbol and given an instance name).

To drag in as3
blie_btn is the instance of the object drawin on the stage. In AS3 you have to assign a even listener, in this case MOUSE_DOWN, and MOUSE_UP, as we want the drag to stop if the mouse is not clicked. Then we fire the functions, and tell the object to start drag.

if you want to make the text do what you want then something like this might work.
In the function, you could add a text box onto the stage, give it a instance of something like outputText
and then:

How to populate a table column with marked text?

I hate searching and typing so I was just wondering if there was a solution to the following problem.
I have a document that contains 5-character defect codes in the body of the text (in numbered steps). At the end of the document I have a table which summarizes these codes: the codes make up one column and the other columns contain information related to these codes (page number, area, actions to be taken, criteria for defect etc.).
Is there a way for me to mark the codes such that I could import all of them into the defect code column?
I was leaning towards generating a list of some kind and then pasting it in the column but I can't seem to paste my generated list into multiple cells. FM will only allow me to paste the whole list in one cell. Am I using the wrong approach or maybe missing a step in between?

FYI, I couldn't use cross-reference markers because the defect code (according to the style guide.) is written at the end of the instruction, on the same line without a hard return. Cross referencing brought in all the text in that paragraph if I used a <paratext> building block to define my cross-reference format. I lack the knowledge to create a cross-reference format that would just give me the last five characters of the paragraph. These tables tend to be long and even if I could do that, for each row, I would have to click about seven or eight times per entry

Replacing marker text for sevral markers in one shot.

I can't change marker text (such as an index entry) by using the Find/Change dialog box. If FrameMaker finds the marker text I specify, and if I type different text in the Change text box and click Change, FrameMaker replaces the marker--not the marker text--with the text in the Change text box.
To change marker text, i use the Special > Marker command
I have loads of marker spread over several documents. It is not practical to change each and every marker text manually.
Basically i have marker with marker text in the format "gotolink xyz.pdf:abc". I would like to replace the marker text to "gotolink xyz.fm:abc".
The marker text varies for different markers but the bottom line is replacing pdf to fm.
Please help me as early as possible.

Damodar, The fastest way would be to do the search & replace in the MIF files using a text editor (such as UltraEdit or TextPad) or a regular expression tool such as grep or Funduc's Search&Replace. You would look for the statement: <MText `gotolink xyz.pdf:abc'> and replace appropriately. To batch convert all of the files in a book to MIF, you could use the trial version of mif2go available from Omni Systems at http://www.omsys.com

How can I select the timeline with all chapter markers. I need to shorten my timeline at the begining and move everything down. Thanks

Unless this feature has been added in CS5, you can't select more than one marker at a time.
I would agree with Stan about not doing this in Encore. Create a new asset with the correct length.

Why each time I try to save my day's work,version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

Are you using Microsoft word? Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users. I have seen this message from Microsoft word. It's annoying.

When you copy information via edit > copy, command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information. Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes. command + s does a save.

How can I mark texts in different colors with Preview?

I was used to work with Preview as an editing program. Now, after the update to Mavericks, I miss some useful features. In Preview are only five colors and I need the whole palette of colors to mark texts. Do you know if this features is gone or if I merely can't find them?

Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, audio channels change to 8 channels when clip dragged onto timeline.

Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, when clip dragged onto timeline audio channels change to 8 channels. Audio track mixer changes too. I edit undo to remove dragged clip and it reverts back to 4 channels of audio on timeline as does the audio mixer? Any ideas as to why the audio channels and mixer changes?

you can check the clip you are dragging to the timeline, if it has 8 tracks... can check by right clicking it in the project bin, choose modify, audio channels.

Marker Text Disappeared from Canvas

I've been writing myself copious notes in Markers along my timeline. Typically, if you sit on the exact frame the Marker is on, the text you've entered appears on the Canvas. For some reason though this morning, The text has ceased to appear on the screen. I can still ctrl-click on the Ruler in the Timeline to see a list of Marker names, but not the comments added and not an indication even of which Marker I am sitting on.
What have I done and how do I get my Marker text back?

Is your 'Show Overlays' active?
Click on the small icon, top mid-right of the canvas window...looks like a square with a gun sight on it.
Post back if that's not it.
Might trash prefs.

CS6 Mixing Down Sesx With Marker Ranges Past The Last Clip

This does have a little to do with a previous thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4440234), but is specific enough to not add to that thread.
I just noticed some strange behaviour (and erroring) in CS6.
I have a sesx with 5 minute marker ranges from 00:00:00 to 02:30:00 (30 marker ranges).
Let's say a clip (or group of clips) is only 01:05:23.
If you do Mixdown To New File - Entire Session, the resultant mixdown will be 01:05:23 (as you would expect), but it will have all 30 marker ranges (extending past the end of the timeline).
If you select marker ranges 1-14 (14 is where 01:05:23 falls within) and export selected markers to files, you will get a 23 second file as the 14th file.
On the other hand, if you include marker 15 in the selection (or select all, for that matter), you will get an error for every range that it tries to export that doesn't have audio.
If you do a time selection, in multitrack, and Mixdown To New File - Time Selection, the extra marker ranges do not get included in the mixdown.

A bit of background as to why we are using the session this way...
We use Audition, mostly, for editing sermons preached at our church that are to be produced for cd.
The audio is recorded in as a mono file (directly from the microphone channel), is edited in mono, and stored in mono (stereo takes twice the hard drive space and is an unnecessary conversion for a mono signal).
These sermons are, generally, parts of a series that will be available as a series (as opposed to individual sermons).
Once all the individual parts of the series are edited, they are imported into a session for that series (based on the afore-mentioned template with 30 marker ranges).
Part 1 is track 1, part 2 is track 2, etc... (all sermons start at 00:00:00).
In this fashion, it's easy to see which sermons are longer than 01:19:58 (IE...go to 2 cds) and we can use volume envelopes for the fade out of cd1, fade in of cd2, and whatever we want to overlap between the 2 cds.
Track 1 might be 01:26:32, track 4 might be 00:48:22, track 13 might be 01:15:01, etc... (02:30:00 was chosen as the ending time as we've had 2 sermons longer than 02:20:00 but none longer than 02:30:00).
In AA1.0 and AA1.5, there was a simple option to right-click on a clip and Mixdown To New File - Selected Clip that was removed in AA2.0 (I think) and hasn't made its way back since (I plan to submit a feature request for this).
The biggest reason why we use multitrack for this is that the mixdown will automatically convert the mono file to stereo and transfer the marker ranges from multitrack to the resultant mixdown.
Yes, we could just manually convert the mono file to stereo and add marker ranges.
That is a lot of unnecessary work, though, when it happens in the mixdown.
AA1.0 and AA1.5 worked perfectly, for this function, as it had the ability to mixdown selected clips.
The resultant mixdown would be an exact duplicate of the clip, in stereo, and with marker ranges that were correct.
There may be some different functionality that hasn't been explored, but what I have found is we simply have to do more work to get the same result.

Thanks. I don't see any error message, but I do find Audition locks up when attempting to export Marker ranges that don't have audio data associated with them. I'll write a bug and get it assigned this morning. While out-of-bounds markers are perfectly legitimate and have valid use cases, Audition should handle them more gracefully when asked to perform certain tasks.

Create Basic Timeline with Numbers

I haven't found any timeline software that I'm impressed with so far, so I've made it my goal to create a basic timeline with Numbers. My dates are years, not specific days. (It's for an Old Testament class so some examples of my dates are the Edict of Cyrus in 539 BC, Completion of the second temple in 515 BC, Death of King Uziah in 740 BC, etc.)
I'm using negative numbers for the year. I've plotted the events on a line graph, however I want to have each event labeled accordingly. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? Thanks!

Well, here's what I might do to create such a chart:
In my table I would have a column (B) that has the years of each event I would want to plot. Next to it, in column C, would be all zeros. I'd put the event names in column D, though this is only for reference, they won't be plotted. I would create a scatter chart from columns B and C.
In the chart inspector I would set the Y axis Min to be zero, the Max to be 1, no grid lines, not show the Y axis, no title or legend, etc. I would use the default + sign for the data points but I would perhaps make them larger in the Chart Inspector. I would make the data point lines wider in the Graphic Inspector so they show up better.
For the text, I would create a text box. In the Graphic Inspector I would turn it 90 degrees (vertical). I would copy this box and paste it repeatedly so there are a bunch of them to work with. I'd put event names in each one. Then I'd put them all on the graph above the correct years. You may have to hold down the command key while dragging the text boxes to be able to align each one exactly over a data point.
That's the basics. You might want to fancy it up a bit more. One thought would be to create a custom format for the X axis so the years display as "500BC" vs "-500". Do this in the table inspector in the Axis tab. Choose Custom and the custom format pane will open. Click on the plus sign and add the condition "if less than zero". Type BC at then end of the #,###. Right click on the #,### and click to remove the separator (the comma). You can change the "positive" dates in a similar fashion so they will have an AD (if you have any positive dates).

Opening Marker text in whatever way also creates marker

Hi everybody!
I've been experiencing what I hesitantly call a bug: whenever I tell Logic to *Open Marker Text* via any keycommand (already tried several different ones), Logic also *creates a new marker* at whatever position the playhead is at. I tried reassigning keys, but didn't work, I deassigned all "markercreation" keycommands to no avail. Even mousing the menu command creates a new marker...?
How's this behaviour with any of you? Is it just my project, or a newly discovered bug? (haven't tried a fresh project yet, will do so soon, but I sort of expect the same behaviour). (edit: ...and indeed it does)
btw, I can understand this happening when there are no markers yet in the project. It seems the only reasonable workaround is with creating a *marker text window* screenset.

Yes, I know how to edit markers in the list, or in the global track. That's not the trouble.
I want to just display Lyrics I created earlier with the list, without:
an unwanted automatically created marker obscuring the "first page" of my meticulously chosen Font, style, size and background color with the ugly default 12pt font saying "marker##".
With a workaround I meant a way of opening the Marker TEXT window without a new marker being automatically created. It seems a screenset is the only option.
