Dreamweaver frustration: Applescript Edition

I am at my wit's end with Dreamweaver CS5 for the Mac, a program I depend on more than any other. I have to hand it to Adobe for bringing every...single...bug...from the previous version into this little gem of a program. Despite its great importance to me, it seems that Dreamweaver is the new Eudora as far as Adobe is concerned, and it's frustrating beyond words.
I am keeping a list of the more serious bugs and would like to talk to an engineer about them, to make sure they are addressed in the next version. I would make a bug report, but my impression of Adobe thus far is that bug reports aren't as important to them as they are at some companies. (I've had Apple engineers call my house to follow up on reports I made.) I'd love to be proven wrong. ^_^
One thing I'm trying to do now is automate the boundaries of a window in Applescript. The commands are there in the dictionary, it should be possible, and yet any command trying to get or set the boundaries of a window, either directly or through system events, is a failure. I'd be able to use the "set resolution" that's there in the lower right hand corner of a window, though it's totally unscriptable since there's not even a menu version of the list fo me to access. Any thoughts on how one can set the bounds of a window on a Mac?
P.S. I have 10,000 Twitter followers (my twitter name is 'jlist') and I'd love to report good things to them.

You are correct that DW does not provide an API for selecting Window Sizes from that menu. The best I think you can do would be to manually update the Preference where DW remembers the size of the last document window opened, then the next document would open to that size. Sorry, I can't remember the key used to store that data, but the Preferences file is stored here:
~/Library/Preferences/ Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs

Trying to create ebay template, designed in fireworks, when i import to dreamweaver i carnt edit

hi,
i am creating an ebay template and i have designed the boxes and banner i want etc,
when i import it into dreamwaeaver i carnt edit it, its like an image, i have sliced it and imported the html
i dont hasve much experiance with dreamweaverr, i was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction,
i want to use what i have designed in fireworks for my template which i assume needs to be created in dreamweaver.
for example i have created a description box which in the template i will need to be able to type in etc

Dreamweaver cs3 international edition crashes while "Find and Replace"

When i try to perform Find and Replace in Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
the program halts and crashes everytime.

sorry to say but

i am so ashamed to use a program that crashes while doing a simple "search and replace" action! which i had paid more than 900$.
and also it is so interesting that adobe has released new version CS4 instead of updating the buggy CS3. so the ppl who bought CS3 are dumped!

Dreamweaver CS5, cant edit dependent files

Its been a couple of months since I made any changes to my site in Dreamweaver. I use a template for my web pages. I made some changes to my template file, I made some changes to my home page, which neccessitated changes to a couple of style rules in myh main *.css file. When I click on a rule, i get a message stating, "Unable to open example.com/style.css because it could not be found on your hard disk. Download the file..." However, all of my dependent files, *.css etc, are in fact on my hard drive, and in fact there is no difference when compared to the corresponding remote files. Im sure I just have solme setting wrong. But I havent a clue what I need to do to be able to start editing my site .css file again. I have gone back and forth between showing myh local files and the remote files in the files panel, and there is no change.
Please someone help.

@MurraySummers, yes the dependent files are located in the root directory of my site on my hard drive, right along with all the .html pages I have created and am able to update btw. I can add content to the individual .html pages, but all of my dependent files, not just the .css files, but the java script files too, I would be unable to make changes to those, if I had actually wanted to which i dont.
Another piece of information if it helps, if i click on any of the dependent file buttons which are located on the bar next to the source code button to show the individual file content, a yellow bar beneath the address bar appears with the following: sample.css is a remote file and cannot be edited.
I only have the one site. Interestingly, I tried something that may or may not give someone an idea of my problem. I have a couple of copies of this site for back up in my dreamweaver folder. I opened up an older copy of the index file from one of those, and i do NOT have the same problems. I CAN open up an individual rule, and of course save a change to it if I wanted. Now I couild use one of those older copies, but I wouldnt know where to begin to make all the changes to all the pages to get me back up to current content.

Using Dreamweaver MX to edit pages with Flash 9 Actionscript 3

I designed a site using CS3 and used Actionscript 3 and Flash
9 for a banner on the site.
The site pages will now be edited and updated by the owners
who have Dreamweaver MX 2004.
Is there going to be any problems or errors that can be
expected regarding the Flash banner/Actionscript? The owner will
not be editing the banner just updating some page content.

No problem.
If they aren't updating that part of the page then nothing
will be
altered in terms of the code so it will continue to work.
A page is only html and can be edited in any html editor or
text editor.
I don't know how the owners are going to update the pages but
of course
by giving them access to all of the code they can ruin
everything if
they don't know what their doing........theres nothing you
can do about
that unless you create some sort of Content Management
System, which
only allows them to alter specific parts of the code.

The second part of your question doesn't make sense or you
are not explaining correctly. You have a grid which spawns a popup,
user selects company name and binds to text field. Ok. But you
should then submit that info to a query, no?

Dreamweaver for RFC Editing

There's a set of XML DTD files for editing RFCs located here:

But, I've never been able to get this DTD to "import" into DW
so I could use it to edit/create RFCs. Does anyone have any idea of
how to do this?

Im happy on using a content management system, what i need to know now, is....Does that mean I only have to purchase Dreamweaver Once? One licenence for the charity, and then provide a Backdoor entry via content management to those respective editors?

Can two different people who have Dreamweaver CS6 installed edit the same website?

AS the title suggests, I'm trying to figure out if it is possible for two different people to make edits to the same website if CS6 is installed on BOTH computers.

Hi,
You can activate the check-out option in the configuration for your site.
Sites/Manage Sites. Then klick the name of your site and click the edit-pen.
Choose Servers, Click the name of the site and then the edit-pen again.
Finally choose the Advanced button and check the "Activate file check-out" box
and fill in name and email.
Now every time you or your partner works on a file on the remote-server
you get a little icon saying that so and so have checked in or out this file.
Also try the Design Notes under Advanced settings that can be handy when
working in a team.

Frustration when editing a book

When editing a book in split view, if I double click a photo to have a closer look then double click again to return to the split view, the position in the photo selection pain at the bottom is lost and the page view on the left returns to the top of the book!
Furthermore when I double click to go back to the book editing the colour wheel goes round and round for 2/3 mins before I can continue!

What is your Aperture Version? With my version AP 3.2.3 I see something different, but still annoying:
The position in the photo selection film strip at the bottom is kept, but the "Pages" panel on the left returns to the top of the book!
I simply use a different method to get a closer look: I select the image I want to view in the film strip and enter "F" for full screen view (or hit the full screen button in the upper right corner of the Aperture window), then returrn with "esc". Both, the position in the film strip and the selected page, are preserved this way.
I suspect, you have a corrupted image in your Aperture library or a permissions problem to cause this strange behaviour - also some preference files may be corrupted. Have you tried any of the "Aperture Library First Aid Tools" described here?

If not, then try if repairing the permissions, and if necessary, repairing the Aperture Library will take care of the spinning beachball. See the section "Use the Aperture Library First Aid tools" in the above support article on how to do this.
To fix the jumping back to the first page it may be necessary to trash the preferences - but that will reset your Aperture Preferences to the default values - you will have to reset them afterwards. Thhis is also described in the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics.
To check what Aperture is doing during the 2/3 minutes - or to check if something is wrong - activate the Activity Window while you are working with Aperture (from the main Aperture Application window): Window -> Show Activity
Also you may want to launch the Console Application (from Apllications -> Utilities -> Console), here all diagnostics and error logs are registered and you can see, if any errors or crashes relating to Aperture are occuring, while the beachball is spinning.

The "perpetual license" version (disk version) of DWCS6 is still available, you don't HAVE to go with the Creative Cloud for that one.
Keep in mind though, they won't be adding many, if any, new features to it.
As long as it isn't a cracked/pirated version, you'll be fine.

Disable Template Comments While Editing in Dreamweaver

We have pages set up using InstanceBeginEditable comments to
define editable regions. However, we are not using templates.
Naturally, when I open these files in Dreamweaver I cannot edit the
areas outside the editable comments - this is expected. I'm
wondering if there's a way to disable this in Dreamweaver so I can
edit all regions of the page. As I said earlier, we are only using
the InstanceBeginEditable tags to lock down areas for Contribute
users.

Not as long as DW thinks you are editing an HTML page.
However, you can
open one of the pages, copy all, create a new TEXT page,
paste in, and edit
away. This is a pretty awkward way to work, though.

Can I edit open a GoLive site in Dreamweaver?

I have a site that I put together for a charity..I have done it for a few years and the content, images etc don't change too often.
Every month or so there needs to be an update to timetable and information. At the moment I do this with GoLive which is
the programne I built it with. Can I open this site in Dreamweaver and continue editing it as before. Or do I have to re-build the
whole site? I' m using OSX 10.5.6 does anyone know how long GoLive will keep working in OSX ? Thanks Giff

that was the second part of my question...I did read that Adobe said that it was
discontinuing support for GoLive and on each OSX upgrade I think it may suddenly

How do I edit Photoshop files in Dreamweaver ??

Environment: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, 8GB RAM.
In Dreamweaver CS6, have graphics (.jpg) files in Assets; I double click to edit in PhotoShop and it defaulted to photoshop CS5 and then indicates that it is unable to load. Unfortunately (?) I have Phototoshop CS6. So in Dreamweaver I got to Edit > Preferences > FileTypes/Editors, but could not figure out how to relate my PS CS6 (32-bit ... gotta fix that!) to DW CS6 for editing Graphics Files.

While that was helpful, I also figured out how to do it in Dreamweaver. I suspect that when I posted the original question I was just flustrated and didn't try hard enough.
Here's how in Dreamweaver:
Click on Edit in menu, then at bottom click on Preferences.
Click on "File Types / Editors" in left menu
For each graphic extension (.png, .gif, ,jpg, etc.) click on the extension (in the left scrolling panel), and then (in the right scrolling panel) click on what you want to get rid of, and above that panel click the [-] button. The program designation should go away
Then for each extension, click on the extension in the left scrolling panel and click on the [+] button for the right scrolling panel
Browse to the program (usually on your "C" drive) and double click it.
You're done.

Editing existing Dreamweaver project?

Hi all,
Here's my situation: I have been working on a Dreamweaver
website for a university project for a few weeks. Last week I had
to email it to a group member to add some of his work on to it. He
did his part but not all of it, so I sent him a list of things he
had to do, and he has done none of them except correct the one
spelling mistake! He sent it in to uni as the finished website, but
IF I leave it as that, we will both fail the module.
So obviously I need to edit it and put the changes in myself.
I have got a copy of the website as a compressed .zip folder,
and I have extracted the files. My question is how do I open all
the files back up in Dreamweaver for re-editing?
This is due in tomorrow so I am starting to panic!

Stick the files in a folder. Define a new site. Point at that
folder.
