Drill Up in OBIEE

Hi,
Can anyone let me know how we can implement Drill Up feature in OBIEE.
For example,
Report we have customer,region and sales
we have region->subregion->country->state->city->address as dimension and it gets drilled down.
But i need to drill up, for that we need to use IE "Back" button. But this is a tedious job.
Please suggest any alternative method for the same.

Sreekar, there is a feature in Answers+ in 11g that I think will do what you are asking. It's called dimensional columns. Click on the link here:

On another note, with drill down enabled, you have two links on the bottom of each "child page." The "Back" link will take you up one level. The "Return" link will take you back to the top. Don't use the back button on the browser because among other things, if you have Dashboard prompts, they'll reset.

Drill Up in OBIEE Reports

I have created a data hierarchy in OBIEE Business Model by creating a dimension. When I am creating Request in Answers, I am able to see the measures against this dimension and call also drill down the hierarchy as desired. But once I go to the last level of the hierarchy, I am not able to drill up back to the higher aggregated levels.
How can I drill up in OBIEE Reports and how can I remove the filters which Answers automatically creates as we drill down?

Error getting drill information in OBIEE 11.1.1.5

in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 I created a simple report with 3 columns: the year column from a time dimension table, a measure from a fact table and column from another dimension table. The report shows the results as expected. But when I try to drill down on a year I get the following error:

It also creates an empty filter condition when drilling down: *sawx:exprsawx:comparisonequal is equal to / is in [missing value] [Edit Filter]*
Also notice the extra equal sign in the generated query which is causing the problem.
The time hierarchy is set up correctly in the repository (with keys on the levels, etc.) and no preferred drillpath or anything special.
If you have any hint or solution for this problem please let me know.

I found out this occurs when you have 'double column' columns (columns with a Descriptor ID set in the repository) in your report. When you try to drill down on any dimension you will get this error. I reproduced this on the Sample App installation. This seems like a bug.

Unexpected Drill behaviour with OBIEE over Essbase

HI All,
Just wondering if there is anything in particular that needs to be done to the MOdel design in OBIEE to ensure Essbase data drills "correctly"
Right now what seems to occur, is that if I choose a particular level of a dimension hierarchy in my query (eg level 3), when I drill on that level, it not only retrieves a new column for the next level in the hierarchy, but also brings in all ancestor levels into the result set.
Eg
Query Has :
My Dimension (Gen 3) , My Measure
After drilling on My Dimension (Gen 3) i would expect
My Dimension (Gen 3), My Dimension (Gen 4), My Measure
instead I get :
My Dimension (Gen 3), My Dimension (Gen 4), My DImension (Gen 2), My Dimension, (Gen 1), My Measure
I have tried changing the properties on the physical layer of the dimension for the Hierarchy type from Fully Balanced, to Ragged and Unbalanced, but it does not change the behaviour.
This occurs for all dimensions in the cube which is imported into the model.
Is anyone else experiencing similar behaviour, is their a solution for this.

Hi Imran,
You just need to go to the BMM layer & select the dimension in which see the logical level properties of that column.
In that you will find a keys tab which may have more than one keys defined just see the details of all the keys that might include the columns of upper level.
Either uncheck the use for drill down option.
Or delete that key.
Make sure you have a key that has only one (same) column!

Drill Down in OBIEE

Hi, I defined dimensional hierarchy of 6 levels in Repository from a table.
I have a flat table in database which represents the hierarchy and is as below:
some levels have no sublevels and some have. the max levels is five, lets say.
When a level has no sub level, there is null value in the field.
level 1 is top most and level 5 being the lowest level. as below:

I have one more table, where I have employee name, employee number. I joined these two tables and
I made a dimensional hierarchy combining these two tables.
In the report, I must see, employee details as child to the last existing level.
So I included employee name as detail for that hierarchy.
Now my problem is,
Ifthere is no sub level for particular level, it is noted as null in the table, so I should see employee name after that level.
That is, when a level is ended, and has no more further levels, it should display employee name as its child level and followed by measure value for that.
For example, in the report, I have to see as:

When I drill A, it should show me levels, a,b,c,d,empname
when I again click c, since c has no sub levels, it should retrieve employee name as drilldown.
Hope I am clear. I am not able to implement this,

Your describing a ragged hiearchy that is not supported out of the box in OBIEE 10G
Your options :
1) Flatten the hierarchy as part of your ETL process, your level 2 'c' would be populated all the way down the hierarchy, no big deal really, just more columns in the report until you get to Employee Name + Number or whatever you have on your detail / leaf level.
2) use an nvl() function of whatever your source db supports and return a 'no child' or similar value literal string, at least the users will know they hit the bottom of the real data (level 2 in this case) and are now drilling through to the detail level. You could get clever and use a case statement on the value and offer some form of GOURL to another report to stop this drilling (but it wont give you drill in place on the dashboard, it will be a new window)
3) 11G is out as of yesterday, I think this supports ragged hierarchies now does it not ? I've not had a proper play yet, my colleague has been beta testing but some of us have to bill proper days ;-)

To stop the drill down in OBIEE 11g

Can we stop the level of drill down in RPD.
ie) The Hierarchy level is l1->l2->l3->l4->l5
I need to stop the hierarchy at l4 and it shouldnot drill down to l5.

Hi,
Expand the Dimensional Hierarchy that you have created and at the level where you need to stop the drill down-->open that level-->in general-->uncheck the 'Supports rollup to higher level of aggregation' and this should solve your problem.
Otherwise if you need only till 4th level, then create till 4th level for hierarchy.
Hope this should solve your problem.

Hi All,
Is there any way when we drilldown a column instead of moving columns to the right side, we need it the columns to be moved to the bottom.
Fro Example
Country 4000
When we click on Country basically it wil give
Country State1 300
........... State2 200 etc...
But we need
Country 4000
State1 300
State2 200
State3 100 etc..
Again en we click on any state then it should be ike
Country 4000
State1 300
..District1 50
..District2 45
..district3 22 etc..

No, there's no way to do this in 10g. Hierarchical columns allow this, but they were first introduced in 11g.

Drill across in OBIEE Reports

I have data as follows
D1 D2 ... DN F1 F2
where the cols F1 and F2 are 1 and 0.
When i drill to the detail level page for F1 = 1 i get the rows
curresponding to the same. So far so good.
Now when i drill to the same page with F2 = 1, it super imposes
the filter F1=1 along with F2=1.
I believe that it should only be F2 = 1. Any work arounds for this!

it does
flag1 =1 ( retained)
and flag2=1
it shoud ideally be only flag2=1
when i use Or
it does
flag1=1
or
flag2=1

Two questions about drill-down of obiee

First, when i dirll down next level, can i change the measure or hide needless measure. Can be implemented by obiee? How?
Second, the navigation on web designer. I want to navigate from query_1 to query_2, how? For example,
query_1
class people_num
class1 30
class2 35
class3 28
query_2
name sex phone
I don't know that everyone understand it.

For what you are doing, I think Presentation Variables would work best giving you the most flexibility for your users.
First create a Dashboard prompt on Class and save it to a Presentation Variable called prmtClass, for example. Check the "All Choices" checkbox in the prompt so the user has that choice available.
Now build your MAIN report with the columns you desire on the highest level.
Next, build the DETAIL report with the Class, Name, Phone number, etc. columns, with the filter on the Class column set to the Presentation Variable prmtClass.
Add the Navigation on Value Interaction feature on the Class column in the MAIN report.
When the user clicks on a particular class, the navigation feature will direct the user to the DETAIl report. The PV will filter that report so only the particular class will show.

I am pretty new to OBIEE, and I am learning it by generating some simple reports. The concept, which is still not clear to me, is drilling down the reports. How can we achieve drilling functionality in OBIEE? Is there a good help document, which I can read?

Navigation—or drill-down—in Siebel Analytics is usually determined by the configuration of the business model in the Analytics Server. However, Siebel Analytics Answers provides developers with a handy feature that allows for the creation of custom navigation.
How it works
Let’s assume that you have created a report, let’s call it Report 1, in Siebel Answers and you would like to drill-down to a second report, let’s call it Report 2, by clicking on a specific column. Follow these steps to achieve the desired results:
·     Create a source report (Report 1) in Siebel Answers. This is the report from which you will drill down.
·     Create a target report (Report 2) in Siebel Answers. This report will be the destination report used when drilling down from the source (Report 1). In addition, the target report (Report 2) will be filtered by the value passed when clicking on Report 1. Make sure that both reports use common column names or variables.
·     In Report 1, click on the “Format Column” button for the column from which you would like to drill down. Next select the “Navigate to another request or Dashboard” option, browse to locate the target report (Report 2) and save your changes
·     In Report 2, click on the “Add Filter” button for the column you would like the filter to be applied. In the “Operator” list choose “Is Prompted” and save your changes.

Drill down error in 10g - No Columns displayed

When drilling down on OBIEE 10g reports sometimes the result is "No columns displayed", we cannot find any particular reason why this happened. The columns are available and should show up so it's perceived as an error for our users.
Does anyone know how and why this happens and what a possible solution might be?

Check you have done the identifications properly in the multi provider. The error message shows for the SID Conflict for the particular infoobject. In RSRV Could you please run the following test and if there are any errors you can run repair.
Tests in Transaction RSRV -> All Combined Tests -> Master Data -> Check Master Data for a Characteristic

Drill that opens result in new window?

Is it possible to change the default drill behavior for OBIEE?
I need drill to open the result in a new window.

Actually I think user615005 is referring to clicking on a drilldown to make it open in a new window. This solution will make the report itself into a link and pop up in a separate window.
I've been looking for this functionality myself. I got a few js files from a blog I frequent, and I'm going to test them out. I'll post back if it's successful.

Hyperlink on fields to be enabled only after drilling down

I am facing a issue with drill down on OBIEE 10g. The issue is as below:
We have a geography hierarchy - Theater -> country -> state -> city.
Summary report for Orders will have the total $ value for the entire month. The summary report starts from the theater level and user can drill down to the city level Total $.
User wants a hyperlink on the total$. When user clicks on the $ value it should take the user to a detail report, that will show the individual orders that make up the total $.
But the User wants the hyperlink to be enabled only when he has drilled down to the city level.
Is there a way to achieve this? Please let me know.

there is a way to achieve that but it's not pretty instead of drill down create four reports top report only theater and total second theater,country and total third report theater,country,state and total and the final report all the 4 and total and keep navigate option on each reports in the final report hyper link total if the user is ok with this way try it.

Logical table does not join to any logical table

HI,
I want to implement Business Unit hierarchy for drill down in OBIEE so I’ve created a custom table with the hierarchy information,
I’ve imported that table in the out-of the box physical schema & defined a relationship between the W_ORG_D table & my custom INVENTRY_ORG table as INVENTRY_ORG.BU_ID = W_ORG_D. VIS_PR_BU_ID* but when I try to check in my changes I’m getting the following error.*
Logical table INVENTRY_ORG does not join to any logical table.
Kindly let me know how to resolve this error.One more doubt i have is can we import custom tables in the out of the box OBIEE mappings for SIEBEL..that is the core subject area.

1) I think you have joined tables in physical layer, but you have not created complex join in logical layer.
Check your consistency and see what warnings you are getting.
2) Yes you can import custom tables in whatever subject area. Once you imported tables in physical layer, then they all are just objects, so you can freely play around with them. Just for best practices, make sure you follow proper naming convention for custom tables and columns..
