Dropdown menu removes TOC when loading PDF

RH8 HTML
Hi all,
I've added a drop-down menu to my webhelp project with a list of PDFs.
The user selects the PDF from the drop down menu and click Go.
This loads the PDF, and it works fine.
The only thing is the TOC is gone when the PDF loads in a browser, this happens in IE, FF and Chrome.
The Index, Content, and Glossary buttons are present (all top navigation) but noe respond to clicks.
If I create a plain html link to the same PDF(s) it loads within the topic pane and all other TOC navigation remains and works.
Any ideas? This is the HTML code for the menu.
<form name="myForm" action="" style="width: 305px;">
<select name="jumpTo" class="SmallText" size="1" style="width: 190px;">
<option selected="selected">Select version...</option>
<option value="../36.pdf">Doc 36</option>
<option value="../35.pdf">Doc 35</option>
<option value="../34.pdf">Doc 34</option>
</select>&#160;<input type="submit" value="View" class="SmallFormField" onclick="parent.document.location.href = myForm.jumpTo[myForm.jumpTo.selectedIndex].value; return false"
     style="width: 57px;" />
</form>

Hi Nick
I'm a bit puzzled with this thread. Why? Well, you seem to be desiring to reference a PDF.Normally this is quite straightforward.
What seems to be missing here is some background of exactly where this code lives. Are you inserting it in the main WebHelp Toolbar or just inside another topic? If it's just inside another topic, what is the reason for all the deducing of the frame? I mean, if you are already inside the frame where you will ultimately display the PDF, why doesn't the code simply look like this:
onclick="document.location.href = myForm.jumpTo[myForm.jumpTo.selectedIndex].value
Cheers... Rick

  • Adobe Reader plugin on Intel iMac... menu bar gone when viewing pdf?!?!?

    I had Adobe Reader 7.0.5 on my iMac G5 and when I clicked on a pdf file, it opened in a new window with a menu bar at the top. Since migrating to my Intel iMac yesterday, the menu bar is gone though pdf pages display... just with blank space where the menu used to be. I downloaded v7.0.8 and installed and the same problem. I have the prefs set to view pdf files in Safari and, again, they view... just no menu bar! Any idea how to fix this?

    As far as I know, Adobe Reader (even v7.0.8) isn't Universal yet, which means it [the plugin] probably won't run natively on your Intel iMac unless you run Safari under Rosetta.

  • Problem when loading pdf files from Shared Content

    When I load pdf files from Shared Content, I got the following problem: "The selected document could not be retrieved, please try uploading the document again."
    Anyone knows this?
    Thank you very much in advanced.

    I don't migrated the program, but installed it from the original installer,
    i. e. I first installed Indesign from backup, and then uninstalled it and
    reinstall  clean from Adobe.
    What a plug-in or utility converts page from InDesign to PDF?

  • Firefox locks up when loading PDFs, Google Analytics and other sites

    I just recently upgraded to the latest version of Firefox on my PC running Windows 7. I have never had any problems running Firefox until now. When I want to play video, load PDFs, Google Analytics, etc. Firefox does not work properly. With videos the image locks up unless you constantly move the mouse over the video window the entire time. With PDFs the entire PDF locks up and you cannot search the document or browse the file (same problem with e-Catalogs, etc.) In Google Analytics the window constantly locks up and you cannot smoothly click around the site.

    Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
    You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
    Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • Adobe locks when loading pdf from sharepoint site

    We have sharepoint 2010 in our environment. most of our users have adobe reader x. Some have acrobat standard X as well. I personally have Adobe Reader XI. Some of our users see this issue
    Intermittently where when they are on the sharepoint site and they click on a pdf and say open as read only, if the user has adobe reader default to display in browser what happens is sometimes (not always) the page will just be blank and act like it is loading. This can take up to 8 minutes. Also, if the user has it open with the software and selects edit, the document takes just as long. I was wondering why the process of opening pdfs can be so slow sometimes. Any help is appreciated

    Hi MrSarcastic,
    Does this happen when the end users are trying to view the same pdf simultaneously?

  • Acrobat Pro keeps crashing when loading PDFs  :(

    I have never had this happen before, but recently it keeps crashing whenever I load up a PDF from my browser or hard drive.  On the browser, the tabs don't respond and clicks make the screen transparent and the dialog box "Not responding" pops up.  This either forces the window to crash to desktop or changes the PDf to the crossed-eye icon on black background.  How can I fix this?  I don't want to reinstall the program, since the discs contain the entire Design suite, and that takes a long time to install.

    First, you can re-install Acrobat without re-installing the entire suite--but we are not there yet. Was there some change to your system when Acrobat started crashing? Bad fonts can cause Acrobat to crash. Problem with the screen driver can also cause problems. You can try to turn off any video acceleration.

  • A dropdown menu is blank when using e-bay

    When a sale has been completed on e-bay it appears as a sold item listing item, buyer, price sold etc. and options to indicate monies received, posted, feedback etc. there is also a drop down menu for "more actions" This is showing nothing but an empty box.
    I have cleared cookies and cache of history as recommended by e-bay.
    Can anybody help, thank you.

    Hi @506186 ,
    I see that you are having issues scanning multiple PDF documents from the ADF. I will certainly do my best to help you.
    I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
    Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
    Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
    This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
    I would suggest to update the printer's firmware. HP Officejet Pro Firmware.
    Try scanning as a JPEG, to see if you have the same results.
    If it is software related, I would download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows.
    If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Firefox 4 crashes when loading pdf and other sites unless I first open it in safe mode and then revert

    So firefox 4 crashes when opening in-browser pdfs and a whole host of other sites, even with no addons running.
    I've found a fix: start in safe mode, then close and open in normal mode. This always solves the problem.
    But '''why?''' What is causing this incredibly annoying problem. I went from happily browsing at high speeds (firefox 3.6) to suddenly finding myself propping my head on my arm, looking at a jammed firefox, trying not to go crazy, for about 2 minutes until it unjams (for pdfs - for the other sites it doesnt unjam) - and the pdf page ends up just black. God forbid I press F5 again lest I want to relive the experience.
    This only happens on my work laptop. It's a top of the line laptop. It connects via a remote VPN. I'm not sure if that's relevant but I'm trying to give as much info as possible.

    1. You have a pre-release Beta 1 version of what will become Firefox 4 in like 5 or 6 months. Unless you are intending to test it for flaws and report those flaws to help in the development process, don't use it.
    2. Did you create a new Profile for 4.0b1, and are you using that Profile with it? ''That isn't done automatically when you install 4.0b1, and those of us who have been doing the "testing" for many years consider a new Profile as the basis of doing out testing.''
    [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+Profiles]
    IMO, Mozilla is making a huge mistake by directly offering these beta versions to the general public.
    Also IMO. if you want to play with 4.0b1, use the Portable Firefox 4.0beta version to minimize any conflicts with a currently installed version of Firefox, and to eliminate the need for creating a new Profile for 4.0 Beta #:
    Download Firefox Portable Test to your hard drive and double click the '''FirefoxPortableTest_4.0_Beta_#_English.paf.exe''' file. The entire installation (including a new Profile for "Portable") will be self-contained in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\ folder and won't interfere with an "official" version that you already have installed. Your Profile will be in the \Program Files\FirefoxPortableTest\Data\profile\ folder.
    The "down side" is that Firefox Portable won't launch if any other version of Firefox is already running.

  • Why do I get a black screen when loading pdf from internet

    I have a MacBook Pro and upgraded to Adobe Reader 11.0.06.  Now when I attempt to download a pdf from the internet, the Reader screen opens but the text portion of the screen is black.  I can open pdf file i have previously saved.

    Another possibility to to use the Schubert PDF plug in. It has been around for years and works great.

    I do not know if it will work in Lion but it does work in Snow Leopard.

  • Exception when loading .pdf file

    I have an app that is supposed to be able to print .pdf files. Right now, I'm trying to use the Reader's functionality to do so (through Interop.AcroPDFLib.dll and AxInterop.AcroPDFLib.dll, both v1.0.0.0). This app is being run on a Windows XP SP2 computer, and built with Visual Studio 2005.
    When the program gets to the LoadFile function of the AxAcroPDF object that gets passed a valid .pdf file, a System.InvalidCastException is thrown. The message reads:
    "Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'AcroPDFLib.IAcroAXDocShim'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{3B813CE7-7C10-4F84-AD06-9DF76D97A9AA}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)). (Interop.AcroPDFLib)"
    I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance.

    It's failing on all computers, including my dev machine. Does it matter that I don't want to display the file?
    I'm looking at the example you've referenced, and I see a lot of display-related properties being set, such as Location, Size, TabIndex, etc. I didn't believe that these would be necessary if I only needed to quietly print the .pdf file. The block of code that's supposed to be doing this is as follows (and the call to Hide() should probably go above printAll(), but we're not even getting there at this point...):
    axAcroPDF1.LoadFile(szFilePath);
    axAcroPDF1.src = szFilePath;
    axAcroPDF1.setNamedDest(m_szPrinter);
    axAcroPDF1.printAll();
    axAcroPDF1.Hide();
    Also note that szFilePath and m_szPrinter are valid values at this point, since that was my first suspicion.

  • Adobe Reader XI - Force menu to display when viewing PDF

    Hello,
    We run adobe reader XI in a citrix xenapp deployment.  With older versions of adobe, users would open a PDF and the top menu bar would be displayed which would allow them to print fairly easily.
    With the newer XI version, that menu does not show up unless you press F8.  So users are forced to either press F8 to bring up the menu, or right click within the document and select print that way.
    Is there a preferences setting, or a registry key change that could be made to force this menu to come up every time?  I took a look around and didn't notice anything that stood out.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    We ended up finding a registry key which forces this menu to come up each time:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral]
    “bBrowserDisplayInReadMode”=dword:00000000

  • Dropdown menu links don't work when on certain page of my site

    Hi guys,
    I've created a site that has a dropdown menu.
    However, when you go to a certain page on the site on a mobile device (tested on iPhone), the drop down links don't work.
    You can check out the page here - if you go to this page on an iPhone, the Facility and Capacity buttons have dropdowns but the links don't work...
    Does anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem might be?
    Thank you for any help and hope to hear from you.
