Duplicate archivelog sequence on standby database

Hi,
In our standby database when i check archivelog (below command), i see 2 duplicate sequence number. One is applied and another is not applied. Is there any problem with dataguard and how to solve it

    This appears related to Bug 3298797 that was supposed to be fixed in 10.2.0.1. The workaround is to switch over to the standby, register the standby and then switch back.

  • Got RMAN error when running RMAN backup of archivelogs on physical standby database

    Got below error when running RMAN backup of datafiles and archivelogs on physical standby database.
    RMAN-06820: WARNING: failed to archive current log at primary database
    ORACLE error from target database:
    ORA-17629: Cannot connect to the remote database server
    ORA-17627: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    Could anyone help me? Thanks,

    Hello;
    When you connect RMAN to the source database as TARGET you must specify a password even if RMAN uses operating system authentication.
    So the errors ORA-17627 and ORA-00942 appear to be cause and effect.
    What version of Oracle?  ( 11.2.0.4 according to the tag )
    Can you post your backup script?
    Best Regards
    mseberg
    Update
    According to :
    Database Error Messages 11g Release 2 (11.2) E17766-03
    RMAN-06820: WARNING: failed to archive current log at primary database
    Cause: An attempt to switch the archived log at the primary database failed.
    So I would check my Primary alert log for an issue.

  • Problem while mining archivelog in Logical Standby Database

    I have configure Data Guard with one Primary database, one physical standby and one logical standby database; redo are applied correcly on the physical standby database but on the logical standby database when logminer begin mining logfile it encounter this errors :
    ORA-00600 internal error code, arguments : [kpotcgah-7],[64],[X4],[],[],[],[],[]
    ORA-12801 error signaled in parallel query server P003
    ORA-07445
    ORA-12805 parallel query server died unexpectedly

    Unfortunately ORA-00600 errors are beyond the scope ot this forum, as they require tools and source code available only at Oracle Support. The only directions you most probably will get here is to issue a Service Request. Oracle support will, among other things, ask you if you are at the latest available patch for your platform.
    Good luck.

  • How to apply archivelog with gap on standby database

    Hi All,
    Oracle Database version : 9.2.0.6
    Following is my sequence of commands on standby database.
    SQL>alter database mount standby database;
    SQL> RECOVER AUTOMATIC STANDBY DATABASE UNTIL CHANGE n;
    ORA-00279: change 809120216 generated at 07/24/2006 09:55:03 needed for thread

    ORA-00278: log file 'D:\ORACLE\ADMIN\TEST\ARCH\TEST001S19921.ARC' no longer
    needed for this recovery
    ORA-00308: cannot open archived log

    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    OSD-04002: unable to open file
    O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
    I have check the last sequence# on standby database which is 19921. And I have archivelog starting from sequence# 20672 onwards. When I am trying to apply archive log starting from sequence# 20672 , it is searching for 'D:\ORACLE\ADMIN\TEST\ARCH\TEST001S19921.ARC' file and cancel the recovery. Please note that I don't have those missing archive on Primary server as well. So How can I apply the remaining archive log which I do have from 20672 onwards.
    I hope I am not creating any confusion.
    Thx in advance.

    Hi Aijaz,
    Thx for your answer. But my scenario is bit complex. I have checked my standby database status which is not running in recovery mode. I have tried to find archive_gap which is 0 on standby server. I am copying all archived log from primary to standby thru the script every 2 hour and appying them on standby. After applying, the script is removing all applied log files from primary as well as standby. So it is something like I have archivelog from 1,2,3,7,8,9,10. So 4,5 and 6 archivelog are missing which is required when I am trying to recover standby database. Also note that I want to apply 7,8,9,10. I will loose some data from those missing archive but I have cold back any way. I don't have those missing archivelog files(4,5 and 6) anywhere at all. So how can I recover standby database. I am using standby just for the backup purpose.
    I hope my question is clear now.
    Thx in advance

  • MANAGED RECOVERY AT STANDBY DATABASE REQURING OLD ARCHIVELOGS ORA-00308

    Oracle 9.2.0.4

    keeping standby in sync with manual applying the ARCHIVELOG from primary to
    standby database.
    primary database was 3 REDO log members of 100 MB with 1 member each.
    what i did, 1 drop and re-create the INACTIVE REDO group for all three, and
    make them
    5 REDO logs of 200 MB with 1 member each,
    then in order to keep fresh copy of primary database onto standby database, i
    send the cold backup after 15 days (last week) with standby controlfile.
    now, with that standby controlfile and the database, i can mount the database
    but while to open the database, receives messages as , it requiring the
    ARCHIVELOGS generated log time ago.
    changes the REDO groups from 3 to 5 and size 100 to 200 MB at INACTIVE state

  • RMAN in 10g database deletes archivelog files before standby receives them

    Hi all,
    We currently have problem with our Oracle 10gR1 database on Windows 2000 server in that the RMAN backups on the primary database delete archivelogs before the standby database can receive current and new archivelogs from primary database. What happens is that RMAN backs up the archivelogs and deletes them from disk before the archivelogs are sent to the standby. The standby then looks for these archivelogs on the primary but is unable to locate them. Whenever this happens, the production database (primary) hangs and we have to restart the instance on the primary. We have our Data Guard setup in maximum performance mode so this should not happen.
    As a short term fix, we have changed the backups to have RMAN backup and delete the archive logs 15 minutes older than current time so that the standby can receive the logs and not have problems. Besides this fix is there a long term solution to the problem or is it a bug in Oracle 10g? The issue came up after we upgraded from 9i to 10g and never saw it before in 9i with RMAN and Data Guard physical standby databases.
    Thanks
    Ben Prusinski, Oracle DBA

    thanks for answer...
    did you managed to make it 'work'?
    according to doc. if set on standby it should:
    <>
    Then, these files are eligible for deletion:
    Archived redo log files in the flash recovery area that
    were applied on the standby database.
    <>
    and this is to my understanding irespective to retention policy...unfortunately report obsolete does not report applied archived logs as eligable for deletion.
    How this works in your case?
    regards.

  • Recover Standby Database suggests wrong filename

    Hi,
    I am running Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production Standard Edition on Linux version 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp ([email protected]) (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3))
    I've created a physical standby database, but since I am running Standard Edition, I am not using the DataGuard features. I use the rsync utility to copy over the archivelogs to the standby database, and I apply them periodically to the standby database.
    The standby database is started this way :
    startup nomount pfile='/u01/oradata/orcl/initorcl.stdby';
    alter database mount standby database;
    And the archives are applied this way :
    recover standby database;
    AUTO
    (AUTO for the command to apply all available archive logs automatically, using the suggested paths and filenames)
    My problem is that once in a while (maybe once every 2-3 weeks), the suggested filename does not have the same format as the rest of the time. I then have to manually specify the correct filename and it goes fine after that.
    Example :
    In this example, you will see that it is first looking for sequence 22907 (o1_mf_1_22907_5n3m1xrf_.arc), then 22908 (o1_mf_1_22908_5n3m4kf0_.arc) [Notice the format of the file name] and then tries to look for sequence 22909, but looks for filename ".o1_mf_1_22909_5n3md1h5_.arc.qXMz5s"

    @fjfranken
    Yes. If I manually enter the name of the file for the sequence requested instead of passing the suggested fielname, it works fine.
    And the log_archive_format is not defined, I am using the flash_recovery_area and let Oracle manage this automatically.
    @Hemant K Chitale
    Unfortunately, those sequences are not listed anymore in the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view.
    Well, I think the the problem might be related to files that are being written to at some time...
    Thanks,
    Mat

  • Standby database with ASM disks?

    Has anyone successfully created a standby database when the primary database and the standby database are using ASM disks? If the answer is yes, how did you copy the files(database backup, control files, etc.) from the asm on primary to asm on standby?
    Note: I am using 10gR2 on HP-UX but the copy part should be platform independent so however you did it should help me.

    Hi d_carmichael2001,
    I had done database migration from Non-asm to ASM for single instance by RMAN.
    and i think mostly steps are same for create standby database on ASM.
    Have a Look.......
    1.create a ASM instance manually on new server.
    2.Take a backup of Prod database and controlfile.
    **backup of controlfile for Standby should be taken as
    BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE FOR STANDBY;
    Backup database cmd will be same as Backup database plus archivelog;
    3. create standby database by using following cmd and set necessary parameter before execute it
    Diskgroup for standby should be define in standby spfile's.
    **Standby database should be in nomount stange
    **connect as % rman TARGET / AUXILIARY SYS/sys_pwd@sbdb1
    Use
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY ;
    This command will copy the datafiles, archived redo log files and standby control file in the backup set to the standby database's storage area.
    Thanks

  • How to open a "manual" Physical standby database in read/write mode

    Hi,
    I am running Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production Standard Edition on Linux version 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp ([email protected]) (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3))
    I've created a physical standby database, but since I am running Standard Edition, I am not using the DataGuard features. I use the rsync utility to copy over the archivelogs to the standby database, and I apply them periodically to the standby database.
    The standby database is started this way :
    startup nomount pfile='/u01/oradata/orcl/initorcl.stdby';
    alter database mount standby database;
    Everything runs perfectly fine, I can do "alter database open read only" and then I can do selects into tables to confirm that everything is up to date.
    The thing is, if I shutdown immediate the database, then do just startup :
    shutdown immediate;
    startup;
    The database opens with no error messages, but is still in read-only mode...
    I read that the default behavior for a standby database is to open read-only, like I am experiencing, but I would like to know what is the right way to open it correctly in read-write mode (I understand that after that, my standby will not be standby anymore and that I will have to recreate my standby database).
    Thanks,
    Mat

    Hello,
    There're features which allows you to open a Standby database in Read/Write mode but for all I know
    it needs Entreprise Edition.
    In Enterprise Edition you can use Logical Standby database. More over, for Physical standby there's
    a way by using flashback database so as to rolling backward the database and avoiding to recreate
    the Standby.
    In Standard Edition I'm afraid that you'll have to recreate your Standby database.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • DB link for physical standby database

    Hi All ,
    I'm facing the below error on primary while trying to create a db link pointing to the 10g standby database which is in mount stage.
    SQL> create database link synct connect to system identified by 123 using 'stdby';
    Database link created.

    ORA-02068: following severe error from SYNCT
    ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
    Database version is 10.2 standard edition
    My requirement is i need to get max(sequence#) of standby database from primary database using db link.
    what i was trying to do is
    on primary get max(sequence#) & get max(sequence#) of standby using db link and compare both if the gap differene is more than 10 send a mail.
    Any suggestions will be really helpful

    Post Standby/DataGuard/ADG all questions further in Oracle Discussion Forums » High Availability » Data Guard
    If you try to connect any users other than SYS in standby the error is very much expected. Of course you can connect with other users if you open database in OPEN READ ONLY mode, from 11gRx you can connect with other users even MRP is running if you are using ADG(active Data Guard licensed) .
    I like to know, what you want to achieve by creating DB Link on physical standby database? Which is not allowed.
    Database version is 10.2 standard edition

    To use this you should use Oracle Net Service, you no need of DB Links.
    Ex:- sqlplus sys/****@standby as sysdba
    Here standby refers to Oracle net service, Where you will have entries in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.

  • Standby database open to test

    Hi.
    I's needed to activate some physical standby databases in the DR site to test if the applications are working correctly. Everthing ran correctly, only I have an one problem:
    When the DataGuard was synchronized, this does correctly:
    Ex.
    Prod database
    select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; Max sequence: 115
    Standby database
    select max(sequence#) from v$log_history; Max sequence: 114
    But in OEM - DataGuard monitoring page indicate me the sequence that the database advanced during the tests and not the sequence in wich really the standby database goes.
    How can I solve this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Hemant.
    I's followed the steps of "12.6 Using a Physical Database for Read/Write testing and reporting (Oracle Data Guard concepts and Administration guide)" and in this guide have a note for first make a guaranteed restore point, then activate the standby db and after the test restore to this point.
    All the steps is running correctly but when I check in the Data guard status pages on the OEM, the *'Last received log'* column have the last sequences generated during the test and in the *'Last applied log'* column have a zero, but if I check with the next sql query in the standby database:
    sql> select max(sequence#) from v$log_history;
    have the sequence correctly; before I was do the steps to synchronize with the primary database.
    I's make a clean of the agents on both servers, the same data.
    After the some day, the databases are synchronize.

  • How to delete the foreign archivelogs in a Logical Standby database

    How do I remove the foreign archive logs that are being sent to my logical standby database. I have files in the FRA of ASM going back weeks ago. I thought RMAN would delete them.
    I am doing hot backups of the databases to FRA for both databases. Using ASM, FRA, in a Data Guard environment.
    I am not backing up anything to tape yet.
    The ASM FRA foreign_archivelog directory on the logical standby FRA keeps growing and nothing is get deleted when
    I run the following command every day.
    delete expired backup;
    delete noprompt force obsolete;
    Primary database RMAN settings (Not all of them)
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 9 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD_CWY';
    CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD2' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD2_CWY';
    CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME 'WMRTPRD3' CONNECT IDENTIFIER 'WMRTPRD3_DG';
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    Logical standby database RMAN setting (not all of them)
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 9 DAYS;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    How do I cleanup/delete the old ASM foreign_archivelog files?

    OK, the default is TRUE which is what it is now
    from DBA_LOGSTDBY_PARAMETERS
    LOG_AUTO_DELETE     TRUE          SYSTEM     YES
    I am not talking about deleting the Archive logs files for the Logical database that it is creating, but the Standby archive log files being sent to the Logical Database after they have been applied.
