Dynamic Columns requirement in a report

Hi,
I have a requirement in my report:
Report takes Month &Year presentation Variable as a input and result should be dynamic 11 past months as columns in my report.
Eg: If i select September 2011, Report should have 11 coumns which should start from August 2010 till September 2011
If i select August 2011, Report should have 11 coumns which should start from July 2010 till August 2011
Please suggest the optimized way to acheive this result.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Rahul

This is more simpler...think logically. Suppose, you take current month-yr i.e. Sept 2011, then you want to show data from Aug 10 - Sept 11.
Simply follow these:
- Create a simple report say 'Mid Report' with 2 columns. Change the fx to give something like 1109 for Sept-11 and 1008 for Aug-10
- This will give you 1 record with 2 values 1008 & 1109
- In your main report creata a similar FX for Year-Month and put a filter based on other report. One less than eqaul to 1109 and One more than or equal to 1008. This will give you results for:
1008
1009
1010
1011
1012
1101
1102
1103
1104
1105
1106
1107
1108
1109
This can be utilized to get any trend report

  • Creating Dynamic Column Headings in Interactive Reports

    Hi,
    any ideas how I can alter the name of a column in an interactive report.?
    I have columns whose usage is defined by the end user and consequently want to have their own meaningful column header displayed whenever this column is referenced.
    I can get column headers to change in standard reports by using PL/Sql to return the column headers. In Forms, I use shortcuts (these don't seem to work for reports, I wish they did) but I'm at a loss on how to achieve this with IR's.
    Thanks
    Mike

    I wrote a script(application process) that updated the table that holds column name. I changed the display name, not the column name. I cant remember the actual table, but i found it by looking at the code that create the "APEX Application Page Ir Col" View.
    I dont know if this is best practice, but it works for me.

  • Dynamic Column width for a report

    Will the width property of a column be able to be set at run-time (i.e. ability to set the width of a column to an expression) in SQL Reporting Services 2008? One problem I have seen is the inability to set the width of columns in a report when you you have several columns whose order is determined based on parameters.
    Lets say I have 2 columns in a report and two fields from the database which will populate those columns: 1 field that is varchar(5) and one which is varchar(50). If I do not know which column each field will go to until runtime how am I supposed to adjust the column width? Letting the column width be set by an expression would solve everything as I could pass the width in to the report. As it stands now, I would have to set each column's width to accomodate a field of type varchar(50) in order to avoid wrapping of data.
    You could say just create 2 reports, one for each case, but what if I had 15 fields? 20?
    Has anyone figured out how to dynamically set the width of a column? Will the width of a column be able to be set at run-time in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 via expression or some other means?
    Questions, questions, questions.
    Chuck

    Ok slight update
    RDL xml files are used during deisgn of reports but when you deply they go into the Content column of a table called Catalog:
    SELECT [Name],
    CAST(CAST([Content] AS VARBINARY(MAX)) AS XML) AS reportXML
    FROM [Catalog]
    WHERE type = 2
    So I think this can be edited programmatically.  Widths can be found like this:
            <TableColumns>
              <TableColumn>
                <Width>9cm</Width>
              </TableColumn>
              <TableColumn>
                <Width>3.02646cm</Width>
              </TableColumn>
              <TableColumn>
                <Width>3.25cm</Width>
              </TableColumn>
              <TableColumn>
                <Width>3.5cm</Width>
              </TableColumn>
              <TableColumn>
                <Width>3.5cm</Width>
              </TableColumn>
            </TableColumns>

  • Problem with dynamic columns in the BEx report

    Hi Gurus,
    I am tryging to build some planning application using BI-IP and input ready queries.
    I'm facing issues with making the columns in the query 'dynamic'. The example is given below: -
    Lets say there are states and cities for which we have to plan sales volumes. Depending on the value I choose for 'State' it should create as many columns for 'Cities' as per the hierarchy of the cities.
    Lets say if I choose Maharashtra then the report shud look like :-
    State-> Maharashtra
    Rows               Column1                      Column2                      Column3
    GL Account      Mumbai/0quantity        Pune/0quantity            Aurangabad/ 0quantity
    1000000            1000                               1500                              1200
    State--> Karnatka
    Rows                 Column1                  Column2
    GL account        Bangalore                 Mangalore
    1000000
    Any idea how this can be achieved?

    Hi friend,
    See the link below it is having the solution of hiding the columns in smart forms
    Hide table columns in smart form?
    Create a table to display your values with 12 col and hide the columns based on the idea provided in the link above.
    I think this will solve your issue if you still have queries please revert back to me i will help you.

    Thanks,

    create new selection
    drag and drop the kf
    drag and drop calmonth
    create formula variable for calmonth using type as "customer exit"
    now based on the fiscperiod you can fill calmonth in customer exit which will give you desired output
    you can use text variable if you want the heading for the KF to be dynamic.

  • Dynamic Column Heading on Interactive Report

    I have my column headings for my table columns stored in the database. I want the Interactive Report to use these heading (instead of static headings). Is there a way to have the columns set from the database(with a function/procedure)?

    you can replace the column headings with &PAGE_ITEM.
    obviously one page item per column header
    then use the database to populate the items with your column headings.

    Hi all,
    Is it possible to assign a SQL result to a Column name on an interactive report?
    I have been able to do this on a standard SQL Report though the use of page items but have not had much luck with interactive reports.
    Any help is appeciated.
    Thanks,

    could you please explain step 4 a bit more?
    as with the standard report, i just created an item with SQL query with a corresponding computation with same SQL query and that works great.
    i tried the same method with interactive and it did not work.
    in step 4 it mentions creating a process to populate the items.
    how is this done?

  • Dynamic Columns in FSG

    Hi,
    We need to create multiple reports using FSG. For some of the reports the rows will be common and columns will change based on a segment in COA.
    Example:
    A company having multiple office such as regional office, divisional office and branches. All branches will rollup to divisional office and all divisional office will rollup to regional office and so on. The sample values are given below:
    80100000 - is regional office 1
    80101000 - is divisional office 1
    80101001 to 80101099 - branch offices under divisional office 1
    80102000 - is divisional office 2
    80102001 to 80102099 - branch offices under divisional office 2
    The requirement will be as follows:
    1. to have divisional office + offices under it should be printed in a report if divisional office combination selected
    2. to have regional office + divisional offices under it should be printed in the report if regional combination selected
    3. to have office level information should be printed if office is selected
    Can anyone tell whether we can have a single FSG report with dynamic columns to print the report based on the option selected.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Arun

    ... using the grouped-by-tasks is okay, as this will show up those work items having the additional attribute only.
    In SWL1 you should use:
    \* TS90000110 &_WORKITEM.CREATEDBYUSER.ID& Creator ID
    Don't leave the "user" field blank.
    After that you can add the new column from the "available columns" section within the worklist. This is done by the button "change layout" on the button-bar above the work item's list.

    I have another table called t1 ... where i need to calculate values of t1 again some specific rules are table scn.
    So for each t1 there will be one row with columns as scn entries which I select on interface.
             Original Value  --  Sc1 ......  Sc2  ...... Sc3  ......  Sc4 ......  Sc5 . . . . . .. .
    t1...................xx...... xx..........xx..........xx........ xx........ xx
    t3...... .............xx...... xx..........xx..........xx........ xx........ xx
    t4....................xx...... xx..........xx..........xx........ xx........ xx
    selection of these scn columns will be dynamic....so i cant create n number of columns in the report template and hide them as per requirement....it will not work.
    Wat is a feasible solution to create such kind of report ?
    Can we create template in C# or .net ?
    IF yes...do we have to save every time in order to render report ?
    e.g.   one report may contain 4 columns and other 10 ... so do i have to create new rpt file each in order to render the report ?
    Please if any1 have approach to create this kind of report then it will very helpful....

  • Generating dynamic columns for a report

    Hi all,
          Can anybody pls. tell me how to output dynamic columns in a report. my req. is that i've to generate so many columns as there are no. of unique(a particular field value) rows in my internal table. for e.g say suppose i've 5 rows in my internal table which has 2 fields, one short text & it's corresponding value. so now my report output shud have 5 columns with the short text as the column heading & the their corresponding values below each column heading. i heard it can be done thru field-symbols. can anyone pls. guide me.

    Hi Sushma,
    This piece of code might be useful.
    The following sections will help you to understand the steps required to define a Dynamic ALV.
    Following symbol signifies:
    Þ                    Important
    Main Steps Required
    The following are the main steps that are to be performed for defining a dynamic Alv
    1.       Defining a field catalog
    2.       Defining the dynamic table
    3.       Filling data into the table
    4.       Displaying ALV list
    Defining a field catalog
    The purpose of defining a field catalog first in case of Dynamic ALV is somewhat different than in case of normal ALV. In case of Dynamic ALV the field catalog is used to define the final internal table that will hold the data, and would be used to display the final output.
    Þ It is very important to remember that the field catalog table be refreshed first, else it might give an error.
    For example:
    DATA: T_FIELDCAT TYPE LVC_T_FCAT,
    L_FIELDCAT TYPE LVC_S_FCAT.
       Refresh T_FIELDCAT.
      CLEAR L_FIELDCAT.
      L_FIELDCAT-FIELDNAME = 'LIFNR'.
      L_FIELDCAT-INTTYPE = ''.
      L_FIELDCAT-OUTPUTLEN  = 10.
      L_FIELDCAT-COLTEXT  = TEXT-002.
      APPEND L_FIELDCAT TO T_FIELDCAT.
    Defining the dynamic table.
    This table will hold the final data that needs to be displayed. To declare the table the following things need to be done.
    Declare a field symbol
    Displaying Alv List
    This is done in the same way as we do for normal Alv. Call function “REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY” and pass the field catalog table in the export parameters and the dynamic table in Tables.
    Reward Points if it is helpful.

  • Building dynamic columns in BO Report (BO 4.0)

    Hi All
    To start with I am new to BO and using reporting tool
    I have a requirement to create a WEBI report which contain a table with a feature to hide / remove columns based on input selection. ( dynamic columns)
    I tried to do this by following concept
    In my test scenario table has 3 columns. user will select which columns to show when refreshing the report.
    I created 4 tables .
    table 1: column 1, column 2 and colum 3
    table 2: column 1, column 2
    table 3: column 1, column 3
    table 4: column 2, column 3
    all tables were overlapped in display.
    I am trying to hide the table using the property which is available in table properties "Hide when following formula is true"
    to display table 1: formula is as follows
    =UserResponse("Enter Column") = "column1;column2;column3"
    The problem doing this way is
    1. selection should happen in a given order
    2. If there are mulitple columns , it doesn't make sense to create multiple tables as combination of columns increases.
    Is there a better formula to set using user response to achieve the above.
    Is there any better way to achieve the above generally.
    any suggestion and guidance will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Guruprasad,
    PFB link to a good explanation how to display columns dynamically.
    http://blog.davidg.com.au/2011/09/dynamic-measures-in-webi-on-any-data.html
    hide formula for different tables will not be easy when you have more number of columns.
    another option is conditional formatting of columns based on a variable value. ie, indirectly hiding it by making background and value color white and keeping dynamic width for column.

  • Dynamic Column Selector in OBIEE - Solution required

    Hello Experts,
    I am pretty new to OBIEE. Please help me to get OBIEE solution for below requirement.
    I have one 25 column dimension table in database. Created OBIEE .rpd file and published in BI server. Now I need to provide one user interface in which user should be able to chose any number of columns of his choice and he should get record set of those selected columns. Something in my mind is like this.
    I should be providing list of 25 column names with check box to select one or many. Assuming that if user selects Col1, Col3,Col5 and Col7 then he should get the result in excel file with record set of those 4 columns.
    I am using OBIEE 10g.
    Any solution for this is highly appreciated.

    user,
    Usually, dynamic column seletor is implemented through "column selector view" available within compund layout of OBIEE Answers.
    But, it does allow you to select only single column rather than multiple columns - which in your case is required.
