Dynamic drop down menus
Hi all,
I am wanting to know how to create a drop down menu where
each item takes you to another page (a subset of info relating to
the chosen item).
I know this should be a simple thing to do -I just can't get
the part where I link my created drop down menu (which took 5
seconds), to the target pages (also complete) ??
(And the Help is of not much help for my 100%, non-technical
brain :( ..)

Inside code view, place the curser where you want the menu.
Select the spry tab, and choose the fourth button from the
right. It should be right under the Data button. Then select the
horizontal menu from the pop up menu.
Next hover over the new menu and click the blue spry menu tab
that shows up. The properties menu will allow you to edit what is
in the menu. If you do not need the drop down children, select them
and click the "-" above it.
With the menu item selected in the properties menu, on the
right side you can name each one and also give it a link, title,
and target.
Then play with the css file that dreamweaver generated for
you and you are in business. One safty thing, make a copy of the
css file as a back up. So if anything does happen, you do not have
to start all over. Also if you print out the css code, you can get
an idea of what everything is doing by reading the comments.

Creating Dynamic Drop-Down Menus

I am a beginner to CF and web programming, but I have a good
understanding of how things work (and I have a good course, hehe. )
I have created a small page that has several select menus that are
populated by database queries, however, I would like them to
populate differently depending on what has been selected on the
previous one. How can I populate a drop-down menu in real-time
based on the selection on another one? I know I would need to have
different queries for each option, but I have no further info on

1 is to create a JavaScript array and use the onchange event
of select #1 to parse that array and populate select #2 based on
the elements within that array position. not fun if you're not into
JS...but a good way to get familiar with JS :)
2 is to use AJAX. JSMX is a very easy to use AJAX library (
http://www.lalabird.com) and I
think you'd be able to implement it with minimal efforts.
Adobe also has its SPRY AJAX library...but it's currently in
development and while there is no shortage of code samples
(including one to do a "related select" if memory serves), there's
no formal API documentation yet.
oh...i guess there's an undocumented 3rd option. there's a
custom tag called two_selects_related (or something similar).
essentially what it does is creates that JS array (mentioned in
option 1) for you using CF.
I'd kind of lean towards the AJAX implementation myself
(using either Spry or JSMX or the AJAX library of your choice). but
that's just a matter of opinion. Others might suggest the custom
tag route. Your call :) -
I have to create a form that would have dynamic drop down menus, and then depending on those choices populate a number of fields.
Here is the basic structure
Division ( 5 choices )
Center ( dependent on choice of division )
Dept ( dependent on the choice of division and center )
The department will decide what charge codes will appear on the form.
I have been building dynamic drop downs with if else statements, but I really think I need an array. I know they are going to change something and then I will have lots of changes to do. Updating an array sounds so much easier. Something like:
Division, Center, Dept, Costcode1, costcode2, costcode3
Can I do this? How do I do this. I saw a thread about inserting an array as a variable in the hierarchy, but I can't seem to find how. And then how do I reference it once its built

Dynamically updating a value based on drop down menus
Hi,
I am trying to make a website for a new computer company.
Part of the website allows you to choose different componets, like
the Dell website. It has different drop downs like CPU, Case,
motherboard etc which list the option we have chosen then it gets
all of the records from each database. So for CPU it checks to see
what motherboard is selected and displays all of the CPUs that are
compatible with that bpard from the CPU data base.
It has the price at the bottom of the page which is
calculated by adding all the prices of the drop down menus together
but if I change an option it doesn't change the price.
How can I have the price dynamically change based on
different values being selected from the drop down boxes?

LewisYou'd do some kind of onChange with the select. Get the value
of the current index in the select and pass that over to whatever
needs it.
Using a JavaScript framework may be best and easiest - like
jQuery. It allows you to do stuff like this quite easily. Though
I'm no expert either - just getting into it.
Are these chained selects then? I also think there's a CF
only version / custom tag out there for this - but it would require
a page refresh everytime the list is changed.
You could also use AJAX I guess.

Using Javascript to require 2 drop down menus to have something selected
Hi everyone. I'm trying to get 2 drop down menus to each have something selected when the form is submitted. I'm using javascript for this, but I can't get it to work. Basically, if one is blank and the other one isn't, I want an error to pop up saying they have to fill in the one that is blank and vice versa. What am I doing wrong? Here's what I have for the javascript and on the form below. My 2 drop down names are Mfg_Spec_Prod_Approval_Initials and Mfg_Spec_Prod_Approval_Rev. Thanks for anyone's help!

I actually got this javascript below to work so if one drop down is left blank, and the other one is filled out, an error will pop up saying to entering either some initials or a rev. The only problem is that I have a dynamic list of drop downs in rows, so I need this javascript to run for each row. If I do the 1st row with 1 drop down selected and the other not, it gives me the error, which is perfect. But if I want the 2nd row to error out, for instance, doing the same thing, the error will not pop up. How do I make this work so it does this for each row since the list of drop downs is dynamic? My drop down menu names are Mfg_Spec_Prod_Approval_Initials and Mfg_Spec_Prod_Approval_Rev.

Help with rollover drop down menus
I created a flash document with rollover drop down menus, but
the menus some times won't go back up unless you rollover their
associated buttons again. Also I created a link inside one of the
buttons on one of the menus, but when you click that button the
menu stays down until you rollover the button again. Some times 2
menus will be down at the same time. Can anyone help me fix these
problems? I'm a beginner and this is the first flash movie I've
ever made.There is a lot of documentation on the web describing techniques to implement "Cascading Dropdown lists in Excel".

i have disabled drop down menus in my webpage which i want to enable wen da corresponding radio button is selected.
how can this be done using servlets??I am not sure exactly how you have implemented it.
you can use javaScript and enable it.
in your case ,on selecion of radio button call a method and enable it.
But for this, you shld not disable the dropdown in the input tag. like
<input type="select" .......... disabled> DONT DO THIS
If you want the dropdown to be disabled on page load call a method using onload in body tag viz
<body onload=disDD()>

this way U can dynamically enable and disable the dropdownbox.

My Drop Down Menus Do Not Work Properly in IE
Hey. I'm really stuck and have been for over a week. Let me preface this by telling you I didn't build our website and have little knowledge of spry and spry assets. I can't the get the gentleman that built our site to help and I'm desperate!
The site - www.ncsoccer.org , has drop down menus. They work fine in Chrome, FF and Live Preview (DW CS4). But in IE8, they do not.
I had to revise the drop downs (changing names and removing some drop downs - I've done this with no problem before). When I uploaded the index page and the template pages, the error started.
In addition, the people in my office that use Contribute to update their sections, cannot access anything but our index page and I don't know what (if anything) I've done wrong, as everything worked fine before the menu revision.
I'm including the 'sprymenubarhorizontal.css" code below. Maybe you can see something that isn't right.
Thanks for any insight or suggestions. Remember, asking me to create to create sprys or widgets or something like that may be over my head! Try to dumb it down for me!

The above headline pretty much covers the problems.
Access to the drop down menus is erratic. Sometimes it's problem-free, but at other times it's impossible to see the options on the menu, or if they are visible, it's impossible to effect a change by clicking on one of them. The times I notice it most is when I am trying to change fonts or font sizes, but it occurs at other times, as well.
It's also frustrating to have to deal with double spacing (for example, when describing items on eBay). Sometimes the text flows normally, but if I force a return, the text that follows usually is double-spaced.
Often, the justification option does not work either.
Occasionally, I can get around one problem or another by switching back and forth between Safari and Firefox, but eventually, the original problem resurfaces.
Because it happens on both browsers, eBay tech support is inclined to think the problem is in my software. (I'm inclined to agree.)
Although they have suggested clearing the history in FF, that option must have been relocated, because it'sno longer under the "Tools" menu, where it was in the past. I also can't find the clear your cache option on OS Safari or 10.8.3.callthescribe wrote:

I don't think it'd help much but clearing history is now in the History menu, and setting FF to clear history on exit is near the bottom of the Privacy tab of FF Preferences.
Also, if you don't have the Develop menu in Safari, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.” You'll find "Empty Caches" there. -
Drop down menus on iPad, the first selection in the drop down will not load as a selection when using safari, what can I do? I use this for my mobile, on-site auto repair business and not being able to call up repair and diagnostic info and reference for some cars is troublesome for sure. It works fine on the computer and I have installed a remote desktop app as a workaround but it is unreliable because the desktop is not business dedicated and may be off or in use at the time. So is there a known fix for this?
Let me paint a more descriptive picture, visualize 4 drop down selection menus, first one is for year, next one is for make, 3rd one is model and the last one is for engine size/type. If I wanted to choose a 2012 vehicle it wont work because it is the top selection on the list. This can be forced by selecting any other year and then coming back to 2012. Ok fine, but then let's say I wanted to choose Acura as the make, well it won't take it because again it's the top selection. Again you work around it be selecting any other make and coming back to Acura. Ok now select the model, same trend follows. But now since most Acura vehicles come with dedicated engines and no optional engines I have only 1 selection in that final drop down menu and it will not take my selection and therefore never let me proceed to the info I need.
This is also true when ordering parts from my wholesaler's website, they use drop downs and I can only get to that last drop down and then I'm stuck. This is blindingly frustrating, what options do I have. I'm not opposed to any avenue at this point.Did you ever figure this out? I bought my iPad last week to use in my business as well. drop down menus don't work...they disappear in a blink of an eye. This only happens in FF not IE? That includes the menu below! I can't have more than 10 tabs open because the arrow won't take me past 10 it just returns to the first 10???

I am having some serious issues with firefox to the point of choosing another search engine. I can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and won't let me change it to my printer when i do try to select my printer it jumps right back to fax. The drop down menus do not work on any of the sites I go to. For example when purchasing clothes and you have to choose a size from a drop down menu I can't do it when I click on the drop down menu it doesn't work at all. I don't have a virus I ran my virus protector and no viruses are present. I don't have any suspicious issues going on with my computer so there has to be something in Firefox that is causing my issues. I tried internet explorer and I don't have any issues there. I hope you can help me because I love Firefox and would really like to continue to use it.
Lots of issues there, main one getting fcpx going again, try deleting the preferences using the utility deveoped by these guys.

Gmail drop-down menus (Move to, Labels) and emails and Facebook chat will not open.
I am unable to open emails in standard Gmail. Emails can be opened after switching to the basic html version. I am also unable to use the drop-down menus, such as "Move to" or "Labels." The button turns gray, but the options do not appear.
Facebook chat is giving me a similar problem. When I click "Chat" in the bottom left, it acts as though it's trying to load but does not open up to reveal friends.
I have tried the following: deleting cookies, reinstalling Java, updating my vid card drivers, and uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox
Scans for viruses and spyware have yielded no results. I use AVG, Spybot, and Malwarebytes. The Gmail emails and menus will open in IE8.Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I went into the registry and changed all the "MenuShowDelay" data values back to 400(which were changed to 200 by the program. All the other windows programs drop down menus went back to the original speeds and are fine. Firefox did not change back to it's original delay speed. Where is the registry entry or configuration file for Firefox? How can I slow the menu down?

Lost all the text in my drop down menus
All of a sudden I do not see any text in my drop down menus or on pop-ups. I tried to open Safari and got the pop up menu with a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point in it. It also had the three buttons at the bottom - one was blue - but no words.
I can open Firefox but not Safari. I can open the System Preferences widget but all I see are the icons, not the names of the choices. No matter what application is open I do not see any words in the dropdown menu.
First I tried zapping the PRAM. Didn't work. Then I booted from the startup disk and ran the disk repair utility, it repaired several things, but I'm still having the problem.
The font on my menu bar has changed too.
I installed x11 two days ago - not from the startup disk but from a website a friend helped me find when I didn't have my disk with me. I also installed Open Office. Should I uninstall those?
