Dynamic Labels with JSP/BC4J

Is it possible to have the labels on a JSP dynamically change as the input changes? IE. If country chosen is canada the label becomes postal code instead of zip code.
Thanks,
Natalie

You can setup control hints per locale. If you setup hints for both locales, the JSP runtime will automatically select the appropriate label based on the browser's language settings.

  • Dynamic Queries with JSP

    I am developing a search page which should first bring the results sorted by some particular field & then the user should have the option of sorting the results by other field names which are provided in a form list.
    For generating dynamic requests, ? is used in place of parameter. But for some reason it is not working with Order by. Other dynamic queries are working fine. Please let me know the right way to handle it.
    And also if someone can advise a good reference book for dynamic SQL statements in accordance with JSP.
    Thanks for your time.

    Never mind my previous solution. Some success was not perfect, therefore not acceptable. I used a scriplet and the problem is solved!

  • Dynamic Labels with Datepicker..

    Hiya folks,
    I need to have a dynamic label for a page item, and am coming up lacking....
    Here is the situation:
    APEX 4.0, running on Oracle 10g..
    I have a datepicker control (item is a due date). I am using a hidden item to store the label and I setup the value of this item when it is displayed via a simple sql select.
    If the due date is PAST the system date, then I set the label to Item Is Past Due.
    If the item due date is within 7 days of the system date I change the label to Item Due within 7 Days.
    If none of these are true then I set the label to Due Date.
    However, if the user changes the date via the datepicker, I need to have the label updated (and the the hidden item) to show the change (or not).
    I tried a dynamic action on the datepicker, but it did not seem to fire on a change event always, and would NOT refresh the label with the new value.
    Do I need to submit the page to get the label to update?
    Thank you,
    Tony Miller

    Hello Tony,
    >> I am using a hidden item to store the label and I setup the value of this item when it is displayed via a simple sql select.
    If you need to refresh a page item, without submitting the page, based on a result of a SQL query, it seems that your only option is to use AJAX (as the SQL can only run on the server side, and you don’t want to submit the page).
    The old, but still good, fashion way is to define an onchange event on the Datepicker item. This event is fired every time a changed value is passed from the Datepicker into the input field of the item. Simple and effective.
    I’m no expert in Dynamic Actions but I can tell you that if you set the When Event to Change it is fired when the Datepicker changes the current date. With the Action option of Execute JavaScript Code you can probably also trigger an AJAX process.
    >> Do I need to submit the page to get the label to update?
    No. You can use AJAX, either directly or through DA.

    Arie.

  • Dynamic images with JSP

    Hello,
    I am using NetBeans to make a WebApp. I have an image to display on Page3.jsp that is generated during the navigation from the previous page, Page2.jsp. This image is a png file, and is unique graph generated for each visitor. Is there a simple way to display dynamically created images? I have searched for tutorials and asked my good pal Google but to no avail.
    (FYI: At present, I am saving the images in a folder I have created beneath the 'web' folder, called 'web/images'. Netbeans asks me if I want to reload the image only after the previous, old image has been sent out by the server. I am producing and creating the image with the button_action method of Page2.jsp that then sends the user to Page3.jsp, where the image is to be displayed. Once the image is reloaded, I can refresh the web page and the correct image appears.)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Taivo

    Although I have never implemented this, I know it is possible and I can point you in the right direction. If you already have the code to create the .png image, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify the image code into a servlet to serve nothing but the image (and leave rest of the html in place). Just as the page is writen to an output stream from the request for page.jsp (by the servlet created by the jsp parser), a request for an image can be handled by a servlet.
    //this is in page3.jsp as plain HTML
    <img src="/servlet/graph?user=aUser" />This servlet (graph.class) draws ths image, but instead of writing it to a file, writes it to the response stream.
    Hope this helps,

  • Dynamic dropdown with jsp

    Hi,
    can someone suggest me how to implement following concept in JSP (only through jsp)
    i have one dropdown list box,which is holding source values, on selecting source the second dropdown list box should display destination values from database.
    i have some sample code snippet, but not sure what to put in "onchange". can anyone tell me, pls let me know if there are any easy ways to do this.
    Source <select name="source" onchange="">
    <option value="">Select Source</option>
    <option value="jfk">JFK</option>
    <option  value="heathrow">Heathrow</option>
    <option  value="cst">Mumbai</option>
    <option  value="chennai">Chennai</option>
    </select>
    Destination <select name="destination" >
    <%
    while(rs.next())
                   String destination = rs.getString("destination");
                   out.println("<option value="+destination+">"+destination+"</option>");
    %>
    </select>

    Here is my try which I done with [html tutorial|http://phpforms.net/tutorial/tutorial.html]. You can try to use it.
    <html>
    <head>
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" >
    <!-- hide
    function jumpto(x){
    if (document.form1.jumpmenu.value != "null") {
    document.location.href = x
    // end hide -->
    </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    <select name="source" onchange="">
    <option value="">Select Source</option>
    <option value="jfk">JFK</option>
    <option  value="heathrow">Heathrow</option>
    <option  value="cst">Mumbai</option>
    <option  value="chennai">Chennai</option>
    </select>
    Destination <select name="destination" >
    <%
    while(rs.next())
                   String destination = rs.getString("destination");
                   out.println("<option value="+destination+">"+destination+"</option>");
    %>
    </select>
    </body>
    </html>This is just simple example. You can customize it as you like.

  • Displaying "Required Label with Help" icon dynamically

    Hi,
    I have an item say 'Dept Name', P1_DEPT_NAME
    This field is mandatory in case of CREATE and optional in case of UPDATE.
    - so in case of CREATE, I need to put the ICON (Required Label with Help) along with the Label 'Dept Name'
    - in case of UPDATE, I don't need the ICON (Required Label with Help) along with the Label 'Dept Name' as it is an optional field.
    How can I change the label dynamically.
    the path of the icon is shown below but don't know where to put this as per my requirement.
    <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_12/required.gif" alt="Required Field" />Thanks,
    Deepak

    Thanks..Shijesh
    I have put the following code in Region Footer.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var req =  $v('pRequest')  // getting the request
    if (req == 'CREATE')    // if request = CREATE
       document.getElementById("IMG_ID").src ="<img src=#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_12/required.gif/>";       //set the image src to create image icon
    else
       document.getElementById("IMG_ID").src ="<img src=#IMAGE_PREFIX#themes/theme_12/optional.gif/>"; // set the image src to update icon
    </script>Also, have update the item label with the following -
    <img src="" id="IMG_ID" />
    But images are not coming up.
    also, every time either CREATE or UPDATE...it's going to the else part..that means it doesn't identifying the REQUEST value, I have checked couple of times but I am passing the exact REQUEST value.
    Thanks,
    Deepak

  • Can't create dynamic html elements with jsp????? important

    Hi All,
    I am having problem creating dynamic html elements with jsp tags, i have tried to use EL and java scriplet, both of them don't work.
    i am trying to create dynamic menu in my "rightMenu.jspf", based on, if user has logged in or not.
    some like this!
    <jsp:if test ="${validUser == null}">
    some simple text menu here
    </jsp:if>
    but it is not working. it simply loading all and images with in statement, regardless of whether user has logged in or not. i think some how if statement is not working properly.
    "validUser" is a session bean, which is not creating at this point, it will created when user will log in successfully. and also this session bean does not exist at the page, where i am trying to check that .
    Is there any way to create dynamic values in jsp. It is really important, is there any body who help me in this matter. i would be really grateful.

    hi jaspre,
    thanks for replying me. you know what, is it not something wrong with web.xml file. i remember once, i deleted some from there, a property with "*.jsp". i can't remember what exactly was it though.
    all if statements works on files ending with extension ".jsp" but don't work only on with extension ".jspf". there must be to do with this.

  • Servlet with no dynamic code inside jsp pages

    Hello,
              I saw that a servlet is created even if there is no dynamic code inside jsp pages (scriplets & tags). Is it possible to avoid it on bea side ? (I am using portal 8).
              By the way, do you know if is it possible to define apache in order to avoid to send to bea the jsp which have no dynamic code inside ?
              thank you !

    JSP's always generate a servlet on all web containers. Apache/Tomcat is no
              different. If you have static content, make it an HTML page.

  • Dynamic HTML elements with JSP?

    I need to have a row in a HTML page which contains of a combox and two text fields.
    Depending on what I select in the combox I have to insert another row (which contains another combox and two text fields) or I have to remove one or both text fields from the current row.
    Is that possible with JSP?
    Many thanks

    You can certainly accomplish what you're asking for in a jsp. One of the tricks you can use to solve your problem would be to pass variables back into the page using the Get method and catching the values using the request.getParameter() technique. One quick tip, you should wrap any request.getParameter() elements with a try catch, if you try to grab a parameter that hasn't been defined yet (and this is perfectly acceptable) you'll get a null returned.
    I hope this helps

  • How to link label with an input field in data table?

    I am curious if there is a nice way to link a label to input field in a data table directly in JSP? Data filling the table are dynamically bounded.
    Sample, simplified code below. Values of "label" property are unique in the collection binded to dataTable.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <jsp:root version="1.2" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"
         xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"
         xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page">
         <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8" />
         <f:view>
              <html>
              <body>
              <h:dataTable value="#{screen$monitoring$errorlog$CorrectHopper.dataset}" var="DATA_ROW">
                   <h:column>
                        <f:facet name="header">
                             <h:outputText value="Name" />
                        </f:facet>
                        <h:outputLabel value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" for="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
                   </h:column>
                   <h:column>
                        <f:facet name="header">
                             <h:outputText value="Value" />
                        </f:facet>
                        <h:inputText value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" id="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
                   </h:column>
              </h:dataTable>
              </body>
              </html>
         </f:view>
    </jsp:root>
    returns:
    17:39:01,390 ERROR [[jsp]] Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: #{DATA_ROW.label}_id
    what is related to EL expression in h:inputText's "id" attribute.
    Is there any other way to bind label with dynamically created input field in JSP? Do I really have to bind input field directly to component objects with "binding" and set IDs manually with setId() (what is ugly solution because it moves View related logic to Model layer)?

    I've thought of using EL because I have to somehow
    link a label to an input field dynamically. Somehow? Dynamically? Just use plain text :)Well... just look at my code snippet (notice: we want to join the pairs of labels and text boxes placed in a datatable [or any other repeater-like component rendering properties of objects from a collection]):
    <h:dataTable value="#{screen$monitoring$errorlog$CorrectHopper.dataset}" var="DATA_ROW">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name" />
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputLabel value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" for="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
    </h:column>
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Value" />
    </f:facet>
    <h:inputText value="#{DATA_ROW.label}" id="#{DATA_ROW.label}_id" />
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    and what is your idea of using plain text as "id" attribute value in this case? :)
    Regards,
    Michal

  • Problem in aligning dynamic UI with the static UI

    Hi All,
    I have problem in aligning dynamic UI with the static UI, I am using Matrix layout.
    Static fields are spread over 2 colums and 3 rows:
    lableA SPACE input field SPACESPACE lable B SPACE input field
    lableC SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableD SPACE dropdown
    lableE SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableF SPACE dropdown
    Now when a value is selected in C, than E becomes visible, and depending on the values selected in E, there are dynamic UI generated, i.e dynamic lables and depending on some validation it will be either a dropdowns or input fiels or both.
    at run time screen is like this:
    lableA SPACE input field SPACESPACE lable B SPACE input field
    lableC SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableD SPACE dropdown
    lableE SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableF SPACE dropdown
    dynaSPACEdropdown
    dynbSPACEinput field
    if I change my selection in E than layout looks like:
    lableA SPACE input field SPACESPACE lable B SPACE input field
    lableC SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableD SPACE dropdown
    lableE SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableF SPACE dropdown
    dynaSPACESPACEdropdown
    dynbSPACESPACEinput field
    Requirment: I need all the lables as well as dropdown/ input fiels in line with the static fields irrespective of my selection in E.
    Something like this:
    lableA SPACE input field SPACESPACE lable B SPACE input field
    lableC SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableD SPACE dropdown
    lableE SPACE dropdown SPACESPACElableF SPACE dropdown
    dyna   SPACEdropdown
    dynbSPACESinput field
    dyncSPACESdropdown
    All this elements are in a group and that group has 2 transparent containers, 1 for static and for holding dynamic UI.
    I tried playing with the container properties, and also tried fixing width of dynamic UI but still the alignment issue is encountered.
    Can U guys plz give in ur valuable inputs as i need to fix this urgently.
    Regards,
    JJ

    Hi Armin,
    Can you please elaborate your solution ?, I do not have an idea of InvisibleElement & IWDView.resetView() ,
    If you can give me the exact pointer than it would be great and a good learning exp. for me.
    Thanks for the action assignment part, it worked.
    if (wdContext.nodeMaterialClass().size() > 0 && wdContext.currentContextElement().getActionMatCls()) {
         if (wdContext.currentMaterialClassElement().getMaterialClass_Description() != null || !wdContext.currentMaterialClassElement ().getMaterialClass_Description().equalsIgnoreCase(" ")) {
               IWDGroup Searchgroup = (IWDGroup) view.getElement("DynGroup");
    Searchgroup.destroyAllChildren();
    view.getContext().reset(false);
                                                      for (int i = 0; i < wdContext.nodeMaterialCharateristcs().size(); i++) {
                                  //this for label
         IWDLabel CharLabel = (IWDLabel) view.createElement(IWDLabel.class, "label" + i);
         CharLabel.setText(wdContext.nodeMaterialCharateristcs().getMaterialCharateristcsElementAt(i).getDescr_Char());
         CharLabel.setDesign(WDLabelDesign.EMPHASIZED);
         CharLabel.createLayoutData(MatrixHeadData.class);                              CharLabel.setWidth("154px");                              Searchgroup.addChild(CharLabel);
                 further there are conditions to create either dropdown or input field
    Can you please point where and how to apply your solution.

  • Adf-Struts/JSP/BC4J- and setting date fields from jsp

    Hi,
    I'm working with the new ADF Frameworks (JDev 9.0.5.1) and ran into some questions regarding exception handling using BC4J, Struts and JSPs.
    I have a DATE column in database and an entity and VO with a datefield with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date.
    My JSP shows a textfield and the user should enter a valid date. Everything fine, until date is of wrong format or contains illegal characters...
    Problem:
    ADF tries to do a setAttribute on the datefield in VO row which expects a parameter with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date. When the user entered e.g. "NiceWeather" as date, I get an IIlegalArgumentException while converting to the correct Date format. This exception isn't thrown by bc4j as AttrValException and therefore my JSP renders a global error instead of a message directly behind the date field.
    I tried to validate the datefield in my DataForm and in my Action in the validateModelUpdates() method, but with no fitting solution.
    Any ideas how to validate a datefield with adf/struts/jsp/bc4j?
    Thanks for your help!
    Torsten.

    Torsen - In the first instance I'd recommed that you try and handle it declaritively using the Struts Validator Framework . See http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/10g/StrutsValidator/struts_validator_howto.html
    There is a section in there on how to use the validator with ADF databound pages and you can check the format the user enters via generated JavaScript.
    Also check out the matching sample project:
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/jdev/10g/ADFandStrutsValidator.zip - this has a data field check on it as well

  • Help me!! How to use JavaScript with JSP ??

    I am using JDeveloper and I created a screen in JSP which uses a bean for database connectivity and retriving info onto the page.
    The page has a ListBox where list items are populated from the database.My requirement is
    whenever the list is changed the page shuold be refreshed with the selected item info.
    I tried to use 'JavaScript' for triggering the event with 'onChange' event of the ListBox.But the event is not getting invoked. I think JavaScript is not working with JSP.
    Please help me with how to Use javaScript with JSP or any other alternative where I can meet my requirement.
    I have one more question...I have gone through the JSP samples in OTN and I am trying do download the sample 'Travel servlet' which show list of countries...etc
    I have also gone through the 'readme' but I don't know how to extract .jar file.
    I would be great if you could help me in this.
    Thanks!!

    We have a similar need. We have used Cold Fusion to display data from Our Oracle Database. We have a simple SElect Box in HTML populated with the oracle data. When someone selects say the State of Pennsylvania. then we have an On change event that runs a Javascript to go get all the cities in Pennsylvania.
    Proble we are having is that inorder for the Javascript to work , we currently have to send all the valid data.
    Do you know of any way to dynamically query the the Oracle database in Javascript
