Dynamic reporting in Java

Hi to all
I want to create a dynamic reporting tool , in which user can add & delete no of columns from database table and for selected columns , user want to generate reports. Can any one give me idea about Java API or any other API that we can use in java application for dynamic reporting. Please give me reference example for suggested API if possible. I shall be very thankfull for your support & guidence.

  • How can i create an dynamic report in Java

    hello everybody,
    I want to make dynamic reports in Java. Report contain data and images with good layout.. such as crystal reports presentation..
    Reports fields decided at run time or we can say that it is generated according to user requirement...
    can it is possible in Java. If it is then which tool is better for it..
    please suggest me.. this is very urgent requirement for me...

    i don't know what types of tools are avaiable in market... Tools for what? You still didn't tell us what exactly you want to do.
    i just imagin that
    "An user create a database dynamically on server
    databaseNobody "dynamically creates a database".
    and he decide reports desgin according to
    his requirement..... we provide an control for this
    type possibilities....."
    so this is question is build in my mind.. so i
    forward this question to this forums..
    I am just going to check the physibility of my mind
    imagination...Feasibility you mean. IMHO, the feasibility of creating that stuff yourself is very low. Reinventing the wheel usually doesn't make it better, and it's likely to be more expensive to pay you for creating an inferior solution (not because of lack of skills, but simply because the available products had a few years time to grow, feature-wise) than to simply buy the licenses. Look at Crystal Reports or JFreeChart or Jasper Reports. Or use Google to look up J2EE-based reporting libraries. There might be more.
    Which of these is best, I don't know, I never used any of those. Also, the definition of "best" changes with the requirements. What's better, a Ferrari or a truck?

  • Dynamic Reports in java application

    Hi,
    I want to create dynamic reports in an java standalone application, I have downloaded the Jfreereport <http://sourceforge.net/projects/jfreereport>
    I'm not sure, whether it could get data from a JDBC source. (or is there anyother solution to generate dynamic reports in a java application?).
    Thanks in advance,
    Payam

    I generate reports from a webserver ( Tomcat ) in PDF using iText ( www.lowagie.com/iText ). It works great. JFreereport is also using this iText and you shouldn't have any problems using JDBC. Try to read the tutorial first about iText first. This will give you an idea how JFreereport works.

  • Create a dynamic report

    Hi,
    I would like to create a dynamic report in crystal report.
    put data fields, text fields, criteria parameters on report in run time.
    I will appreciate if you can send me an example code in java that creates and shows the report.
    Thanks,
    Anat

    So find the appropriate website and forum and ask there.

  • Can I create a dynamic report in the server without using a report template

    Hi,
    My company just bought a Crystal Report Server XI and it didn't have a report designer.
    I can't start creating report without the designer.
    The question is can  I generate a dynamic report at runtime (on the crystal report server ) without using report template?
    My project requirement is to use a crystal report server to manage the reports.
    Some client web application will just access this report server.
    I  hope the experts can provide me some guidance.

    Hi Rulix,
    The latest version of CR Server is 2008. Therefore I'm assuming you are using CR Server 2008.
    New in CR 2008 is the .NET report modification software development kit (SDK). The report application server (RAS) SDK is now available for users of Crystal Reports .NET API without the use of a RAS server. Report modification such as changing, adding, or removing database providers, or adding, removing, or creating report objects, parameters, formulas, and sections can be achieved by accessing the RAS SDK through the Crystal Reports .NET SDK.
    Java developers however receive the JRC and Java SDK documentation through the free Crystal Reports for Eclipse download. This product will be updated on a separate schedule from Crystal Reports.
    Further Information and samples are available in our [Developer Library|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects?rid=/webcontent/uuid/5001d5de-f867-2b10-00bf-8d27683c85a0]
    Kind regards,

  • How to create a report with data using the Crystal Reports for Java SDK

    Hi,
    How do I create a report with data that can be displayed via the Crystal Report for Java SDK and the Viewers API?
    I am writing my own report designer, and would like to use the Crystal Runtime Engine to display my report in DHTML, PDF, and Excel formats.  I can create my own report through the following code snippet:
    ReportClientDocument boReportClientDocument = new ReportClientDocument();
    boReportClientDocument.newDocument();
    However, I cannot find a way to add data elements to the report without specifying an RPT file.  Is this possible?  I seems like it is since the Eclipse Plug In allows you to specify your database parameters when creating an RPT file.
    is there a way to do this through these packages?
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.data
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.definition
    Am I forced to create a RPT file for the different table and column structures I have?
    Thank you in advance for any insights.

    Hi Rameez,
    After working through the example code some more, and doing some more research, I remain unable to populate a report with my own data and view the report in a browser.  I realize this is a long post, but there are multiple errors I am receiving, and these are the seemingly essential ones that I am hitting.

                field.setLength(40);
                fields.add(field);
                oTable.setDataFields(fields);
                oTable.setConnectionInfo(oConnectionInfo);
                rcd.getDatabaseController().addTable(oTable, null);
    This code succeeds, but it is not clear how to add that database field to a section.  If I attempt to call the following:
    FieldObject oFieldObject = new FieldObject();
                oFieldObject.setDataSourceName(field.getFormulaForm());
                oFieldObject.setFieldValueType(field.getType());
                // Now add it to the section
                oFieldObject.setLeft(3120);
                oFieldObject.setTop(120);
                oFieldObject.setWidth(1911);
                oFieldObject.setHeight(226);
                rcd.getReportDefController().getReportObjectController().add(oFieldObject, rcd.getReportDefController().getReportDefinition().getDetailArea().getSections().getSection(0), -1);
    Then I get an error (which is not unexpected)
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportDefControllerException: The field was not found.---- Error code:-2147213283 Error code name:invalidFieldObject
    How do I add one of the table.SetDataFields()  to my report to be displayed?
    Are there any other pointers or suggestions you may have?
    Thank you

    There is a Consulting Solution called BOInterface that Business Objects Global Services sells and that helps you to achieve what you describe very easily.
    A description is <a href="http://www.mnsoft.org/bointerface0.0.html">here</a>.
    Particularly, see the <a href="http://www.mnsoft.org/boxinterfacedocs/com/bo/boxinterface/boreport/scheduler/BOReportSchedulerPrinter.html">BOReportSchedulerPrinter</a>. BOInterface comes with a complete example on scheduling to printer; that example can even itself be scheduled.

  • How do you reference a Formular Object on a Crystal Report using Java

    Hi all,
    I am trying to reference an object on my report which contains a Formula field.
    I have read the following 2 threads, but they refer to textObjects:
    [How do you reference a textObject on a Crystal report using Java|Re: How do you reference a textObject on a Crystal report using Java?]
    [Changing the text of ITextObject programatically|Re: Changing the text of ITextObject programatically]
    But I cannot even get those to work. I can reference a object which refers to a database field but as soon as I try
    reference a textObject or reportObject I just get a NULL variable.
    Below is the code I am useing
    IReportObject dbField = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("BOB1");
    IReportObject textBob = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("BOB2");
    "BOB1" is the name of my DB field Object, and "BOB2" can be a Text box or a Formula item and I just get nothing.
    I have just tested it with a FieldHeadingObject and that returns a valid object, so clearly I am going about this the wrong way
    for objects I place on the reports which are not driven by the database items.
    Ultimately what I want to do is reference an object in the Report Footer which will contain the RecordCount of the number of
    records contained in the report, which I am them going to use to determine if the report holds data,
    if it does I will print it, else ignore it and move on the the next report. I am doing this so that I can at an extra filter to split
    a report up into groups and produce a sinlge PDF for each group instead of one massive PDF containing all the groups.
    So if someone has a solution to any of my problems I would be very greatful, and I dont mind being told Im an idiot and should
    rather do it another way, as long as you supply that other way
    Thanks for the help

    Forgot to add am using CR4Ev2 SP3

    Right I have made some headway.
    Firstly, Im an idiot. I was making changes and setting up test fields on my report, but then when running the app, I had it looking at
    the backup report, which would explain why all the new textbox fields were not being found.
    The stupiditity did force me to delve deep and work out a fair bit of how the reports work, so cant complain too much. BUT, I am still
    not able to return values of Formula fields and formulas extra. Could someone tell me if this is even possible. I get retrieve the formula field
    name, and properties but not its value once the report has been populated. Am I wasting my time?
    Well I will continue dismantling my reports till I find the answer, or someone points me in the right direction.
    If any one is interested this is the code I used to drill down to my text boxes:
    IReportObject recCount = reportClientDocument.getReportDefController().findObjectByName("TB1");
    ITextObject obj_RecCount = (ITextObject) recCount;
    System.out.println(obj_RecCount.getName());
    Paragraphs objP = obj_RecCount.getParagraphs();
    for (int i = 0; i < objP.size(); i++){

    Can anyone let me know where is the problem?

    Actually, the question boils down to; does the framework support the fonts?
    I believe that my question re. this working in the designer was valid. The designer does not use the framework, so if it works there, it is either a framework issue or a runtime print engine issue.
    I believe if you use the code below, it will list fonts available to the framework:
    foreach(FontFamily ff in FontFamily.Families)
    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ff.Name);
    For more information see kbase [1198306 - Crystal Report displaying incorrect font in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_dev/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333133393338333333303336%7D.do]

  • Dynamic reporting in Crystal Reports XI

    Hi,
    Need to know about dynamic reporting feature using Crystal Reports XI.
    Is Business View helpful for dynamic reporting?
    Any link to get some material on dynamic reporting/ business views?
    appricate your comments.
    Thanks,
    Cherry

    In the SAP Service Marketplace, go to http://help.sap.com .  Under the Business Objects tab you can select Business Objects Enterprise, and in there is a Business Views Administrator Guide.  That should provide you all of the basic information on Business Views, how they work and how to use them.
    Business Views can be helpful to you depending on what you are looking to do with your data.

  • Financial Reporting making of Dynamic Reports v 11.1.1.2

    Hi,
    I have recently going through designing of a dynamic report in Financial Reporting which consists of financial representation as follows:
    There are some data which is there in the Schedules of accounts.
    Now the user wants to a make a drill down of all the account codes there in the schedule like
    schedule 13 other income.
    All the account codes in Schedule should bw drill down which I am able to make.
    Now for each account codes they want a sorting in descending order to find out which entity is contributing to how much revenue for the oraganistion or
    similarly for the cost which are in other schedules like 14,15,16 tc.
    After that they want a insertion of cell text function for each cell having a combination of account codes and entity which is having a adverse variance and analsis
    for the same.
    If someone can throw a light on this about how to do this.

    I think you have already posted this problem on another post, I said it is possible it could be a ports issue.
    Have a look at the following http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-component-communications-11121-354680.xls
    Select FR studio as the client and it should give indication to the ports that need to be opened.
    Cheers
