Dynamic size box in Java 3D

Hi,
I have two problems regarding the dynamic box in java 3D:
1. how can I change size of the box during runtime? I want to draw a 3D bar chart like using box.
2. what is "Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" javax.media.j3d.BadTransformException: TransformGroup: non-affine transform"? I encountered this when using a percentage (a value / max value) to create a box.
below is my portion of code:
I have methods to set the propValue, maxValue, sideX and sideZ. I update these values using setter to change the Box, but I think I need to have one more method to update the box (calling createSceneGraph() ).
protected Group createSceneGraph()
visualRep = new BranchGroup();
float scaleFact = 1.0f; // scaleFact is used only for debugging purpose
float percentage = propValue / maxValue;
// I want to move the height to half of its height, they are different for each
// module since the height is affected by the percentage. But, every time I add
// percentage to the "itsHeight", it gives me error : Exception in thread
// "AWT-EventQueue-0" javax.media.j3d.BadTransformException:
// TransformGroup: non-affine transform
//float itsHeight = ( HEIGHT * percentage );
float itsHeight = ( HEIGHT );
// 1. Create the box
Box vis = new Box(
sideX * percentage * scaleFact,
itsHeight * scaleFact,
sideZ * percentage * scaleFact,
Box.GENERATE_NORMALS,
LCMPlanning.getInstance().getAppearance( this.getModule(),
LCMPhysical.DEFAULT_WALL ) );
vis.setCapability( Box.ENABLE_APPEARANCE_MODIFY );
// 2. Move the first box to the top of the ground level
Transform3D t3d = new Transform3D();
t3d.setTranslation( new Vector3f( 0.0f, itsHeight, 0.0f ) );
TransformGroup tg = new TransformGroup( t3d );
tg.addChild( vis );
tg.setCapability( TransformGroup.ALLOW_TRANSFORM_WRITE );
visualRep.addChild( tg );
return visualRep;
thanks a lot.
Daniel

Hi,
Nobody answered your questions so far? Here's my take.
Changing the size of the box at runtime:
The easiest way to do that is to scale the transform using transformName.set(double scale) or transformName.setScale(double scale).
Non-affine transform error:
I get this error every once in a while. With me it happens when I try to assign a value of infinity or a NaN (not a number) to one of the params in the transform. I suggest printing the params you are using to create the box.
sideX * percentage * scaleFact,
itsHeight * scaleFact,
sideZ * percentage * scaleFact,
You may not be specifying what you think you are specifying.
Hope that helps.

  • Dynamic-side Box? Can't read source code with java

    Hi all,

    Hi,
    That is what I was trying in deed! I was trying with a Scanner but I also tried with the link you have given. That also failed. Somehow java stops reading the source when it hits "dynamic-side box". However there has to be a way to skip this. If mozilla can do that, I know that java also can. I wonder how....

    I have created a dynamic text box and an input text box.
    I have produced code that replicates whatever is typed in the

  • JSP (no java code), taglibs and dynamic list boxes

    Hi,
    Can anyone recommend a few examples of JSPs using Tag Libraries to represent a dynamic dropdown box in a form? We are trying to learn how to incorporate tag libs into our pages so we have no code on the JSPs. We currently have a JSP that uses dynamic dropdowns, but the all the code is in the JSP. Most examples we find use either static data or just output data into a table with taglibs. But our pages use many dropdowns, inputs, etc... for updates and inserts. We are using JSPs, servlets, and tags which will get data from EJB's (stateless and entity). (We are also using WEblogic Server 7.0 if that makes any difference) If you know of some good examples or tutorials that show how to accomplish this, it would GREATLY help us out!!
    Thanks!

    Check out Struts, they have an HTML taglib that does exactly what your talking about. http://jakarta.apache.org/struts

  • Dynamic check box

    Hi I need help from all java expertise, I need to create dynamic check boxes. table have the customer name, one customer have multiple locations, on selection of customer name, all the locations should be displayed with chek box option, so that the user will allocate some rebate or ajustment to a particular location. How to achive this. any help will be appericiated
    thanks

    Lets assume that you got your customer information and everything is stored in a ResultSet rs
    The value of the radio buttons in this case will be the customer name but you can change it
    to whatever you want that way you can get the parameter accordingly to do your updates.
    <%
    ResultSet rs = ....... ;
    for( int n = 1; n <= rs.size(); n++ )
    while (rs.next()) {
    String custName = rs.getString("CUSTOMER_NAME");
    String custLoc = rs.getString("CUSTOMER_LOCATION");
    %>

  • Display selected items in dynamic list box

    I need to display the selected items in a dynamic list box -
    this worked great - but now client wants multiple selected. I do
    have the items comma delimited in single field (but I can change
    that if I need to) - so how do I make those items display as
    selected in list. I'm using asp and standard dreamweaver list based
    on a recordset.

    There is a better approach. I faced a similar problem and put all the logic in a Javascript function. I modified my code to suit your needs.
    My HTML will have the following.
    <body onLoad="javascript:initLanguages();">
      <form name="languageForm">

      </form>

    <script language="Javascript">
      //-- put all your languages here in a Javascript Array if they are fixed.
      //-- If you get the langauges from a Java object (dynamic or configurable), generate the Javascript in that object and insert a scriptlet in the HTML that plugs in the generated Javascript into this HTML. If so, take care of the quotes and double quotes. They are tricky !!!
      var languageArray = new Array("Fran?ais", "English", "Espanol", "Deutsch", "Italiano");
      function initLanguages ()
        var listCounter = 0;
        for (var ind=0; languageArray != null && ind < languageArray.length; ++ind)
          var obj = eval("new Option" + languageArray[ind]);

            document.languagesForm.languagesList.options[listCounter].selected = true;
          listCounter += 1;
    </script>
    selectedLanguage is something you get in the Java code
    <%
      selectedLanguage = myObj.getSelectedLanguage();

    hi laura
    i think the problem it's in the targetPath "
    mainClip.newspaper_mc.newinstructions.text =
    lu.welcome[langIdx];".
    chech if you have mistype the instance names of your
    movieClip and rewrite it or in the Actions panel select the path "
    mainClip.newspaper_mc.newinstructions" and click the button
    "Insert Target Path" this will open a popup with a tree of your
    MC's on the stage, so you can browse and find the textfield. i hope
    i helped you if not let me know!

  • Dynamic Text Boxes / Resizing text boxes

    I have a site with a dynamic text box that I have initialized
    (I'm not sure that that is the correct term) at the beginning with:
    myText = new LoadVars();
    myText.onLoad = function()
    { textBox_txt.htmlText = this.content;
    myText.load("text/bio.txt");
    stop();
    Then I have just used a text box throughout with the same
    instance name, although sometimes I have it on a new keyframe. I
    assumed I could just keep loading text into it on different frames
    with:
    stop();
    myText.load("text/performances.txt");
    This appears to be working, except that sometimes it seems to
    be confused and the text box on a certain frame has the wrong text
    in it. Do I have to initialize one for each frame in order for them
    to display the right code? What could be causing it to load another
    text file if it's frame action is telling it to load something
    else? It seems unnecessary to have to re-initialize it for a new
    text box instance in every new frame, but is that the way it has to
    be done?
    Also, I'm not clear on resizing text boxes. It seems like if
    I use the width and height numbers to resize this text box on
    different pages then it changes the size of the text inside, and
    the scroll bar (the UIScrollbar) is a little squishy looking
    sometimes. How does this work?
    Thanks for any help.

    You will find it much better to create a new LoadVars object
    for each of the frames, just call them myText1 myText2 etc.
    The name of the text box instance in this case is irrelevant
    but best practice would be to give them individual names.
    As for the stretching effect use setSize() for UI
    components.

  • Dynamic text box, HTML Text with Image

    Hello Everyone,
    I am using Flash version 8. I have used the text tool and
    created a dynamic text box and have attached the UIScrollBar
    component to it. This text box is configured to allow the use of
    html text to be inputted to it. I have code that reads a file which
    contains a list of text files that I then read and place them into
    the text box. The user can use the scroll bar to scroll through all
    the text.
    I have created an image that is a picture of the tab portion
    of a file folder. On the tab I have place some text. This was all
    done in Photoshop. This tab image is used to separate the different
    stories in the text box. The image is save as a jpeg file
    Everything you have just read works with out any problems.
    Now for the problem!
    This image is only 20 pixels tall and the text is not very
    readable. As we all know the HTML tags are very limited in Flash 8.
    Ideally I would like to put the text and image in to the text
    box as I would normally do. Then place text on top of the image and
    have it all scroll properly with in the text box.
    I have taken the tab image and converted it in to a graph
    symbol and then put the text on top of the image. This looks good;
    however I don’t know how (or if it is even possible) to place
    the graphic symbol in to the text box at the correct place within
    the text.
    Does anyone have ideas on what may work? Remember that the
    image I am working with is only 20 pixels tall which is why the
    text quality on the image is so poor.
    Thank you all for any help you may provide,
    Steve

    Yes Tim I am using the <img> tag and I know that I
    can’t place text over the image. I have set the height and
    width to be the exact size of the image. However When you go to the
    webpage it will open the movie to the maximum size based on the
    resolution of your display; however I do maintain the aspect ratio
    of the movie. For testing I did set a fix size to the size of the
    movie. Sometimes the fix size (1000x750) looks better and sometimes
    a larger size (example 1280x1024). I believe that the main problem
    is the fact the size of the image is 670 pixels wide by 25 pixels
    high and of the 25 pixels the text is only 18 pixels tall. In
    Photoshop this makes it about a 1.75 point font. As you can see the
    real problem is that I don’t have enough pixels to make up
    the text. This is why I am looking for an alterative way to create
    the text.
    I tried importing the image into flash as a graphic symbol
    and then using the text tool to create the text. The results looked
    real sharp, the text was nice and crisp (just what I wanted). The
    problem is that I could not find a way to place the graphic symbol
    into the dynamic text area like id did using the <img> tag.
    This symbol needs to scroll as you scroll the text in the text
    area.
    This is why I am asking for help. I am looking for some ideas
    that may work.
    Thank you,
    Steve

  • Dynamically size movieclip to fit text's string height and width

    Hello,
    I am trying to dynamically size a movieclip to fit the size of a text's string height and width (This text is inside the movieclip)
    here is my code so far..
    var Font1_ = new Font1();
    var Format2:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    Format2.size = 36;
    Format2.align = TextFormatAlign.CENTER;
    Format2.font = Font1_.fontName;
    var MessageBox:MovieClip = new MessageBoxMC();
    MessageBox.Text1.defaultTextFormat = Format2;
    MessageBox.Text1.embedFonts = true;
    MessageBox.Text1.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
    MessageBox.Text1.wordWrap = true;
    MessageBox.Text1.width = 800;
    MessageBox.Text1.height = 400;
    MessageBox.Text1.textColor = 0xFFFFFF;
    MessageBox.Text1.cacheAsBitmap = true;
    MessageBox.Text1.mouseEnabled = false;
    MessageBox.Text1.text = String("Use the Arrow Buttons to move");
    MessageBox.width = MessageBox.Text1.width;
    MessageBox.height = MessageBox.Text1.height;
      MessageBox.x = 400;
      MessageBox.y = 200;
      addChild(MessageBox);
    this isn't working for me.. anyone know the best way to do this?
    I also want the text to be centered in the movieclip, with a border of around 2-4 pixels
    I am also not sure if i should be using text.length? any advice and input is greatly welcomed.
    thanks in advance!

    Essentially, you need to check for a change in .textWidth or .textHeight, which are different from .width and .height.
    This code works for me (assumes a background box called bg and a foreground text instance fg inside a moveclip and an X and Y bounds offset variable to say how far away you want the box from the text and a textFrameNudge to provide a tweak value).
         // Resize background box
         thisBox.bg.x = thisBox.fg.x - boundsOffsetX + textFrameNudge; // I'm using .4 as the tweak value for textFrameNudge
         thisBox.bg.y = thisBox.fg.y - boundsOffsetY;
         thisBox.bg.width = thisBox.fg.textWidth + boundsOffsetX*2 +textFrameNudge*thisBox.fg.getTextFormat().size;
         thisBox.bg.height = thisBox.fg.textHeight + boundsOffsetY*2;

  • Problems sending text from JavaScript to dynamic text box

    For reasons which I won't bore you with, I'm trying to send
    text from a JavaScript to a dynamic text box in Flash. I've just
    spent all day wondering why I can't get it to work, despite
    following web guides to the letter. Finally I discovered that I'm
    not actually doing anything wrong and everything works perfectly -
    as long as it's online. It won't work at all locally or from the
    network.
    The problem is that this is for learning material which will
    be deployed both online and on CD, so it won't always be running
    from a webserver. Has anybody got any ideas a) why this is
    happening, and b) what I can do about it?
    Cheers

    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/1_3-fcs/doc/JSPBeans.html
    This is a good tutorial on using JSP pages with JavaBeans.
    Your JSP page can have all the standard HTML tags and a bean can be set to retrieve any values from form fields upon a submit.
    At that point your bean properties are set and your Java application can use that data for whatever processes you wish.
    It's really quite simple once you get the hang of it! ^_^

  • Displaying the result of a calculation in a dynamic text box

    Hi folks,
    I'm having a very minor issue here (operator error, I'm sure ). With the help of some folks here, I've created a series of calculations, and I've got that part down. Now, I just need it to show up in the movie.
    I've created the dynamic text box in Flash (CS3), but when I hit test, it won't show up.
    After all the calculations, I should have a figure that I call totalmoney. My dynamic text box is called total. The user doesn't need to hit anything for it to appear. It just appears as part of the movie.
    Here's my code:
    stop();
    var startDate:Date = new Date(2010,0,12);  // use your  startyear, startmonth, startdate in the new Date() parameters.
    var  currentDate:Date = new Date();  // assuming user's clock is correct and in your  timezone.  else use server date/time.
    var numberOfSeconds:Number =  (currentDate.getTime()-startDate.getTime())/1000;
    var interest:Number =  (numberOfSeconds*0.74356);
    var totalmoney:Number =  (interest+15,000,000);
    function displaytotal(evt:TextEvent):void {
         total.text = "totalmoney";
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Napo

    You didn't have to bury any of the calculations in the function--leaving it as you had it is better.  They could remain where they a=werew, and you'll probably find you want them outside it if you have other plans for using them.  If left inside, they only have scope inside.  In the programming world, it's good to think of functions as things that do one thing and one thing only (though it isn't often practiced that way)--it's called modular design.
    When you place an event as an argument for a function, it typically means that there is an event listener that initiates the call to the function.  If you work with buttons you'll see what I mean.  But if the plan is to create your own call to a function when you desire it as such, not have it driven by an event listener, then you don't need to pass any event to it, though you may pass some other type of variable to it if need be.
    For instance, what you have now will call the function without an argument because the function has the value built into its code....
    displaytotal();
    But you could also make the function a little more generic and set it up to recieve the value instead as an argument...
    function displaytotal(amt:Number):void {
         total.text = String(amt); // an earlier error of mine
    displaytotal(totalmoney);
    That would make your function a little more useful.  Now it could be used to display other Number variables as well.
    // my earlier error was that a textfield displays text, so you need to convert the Number value to s String.
    Hope I'm not confusing you.

  • How to crate a dynamic size array, collection

    Hi,
    Can someone point me to some tutorial on how to create a dynamic size array. Actually I have multiple cursors and on different tables and want to loop through each cursor and get some values from each cursor and put it in an array. But don't know how to create or initialize an array as I don't know the size. Is there any other way.
    Here is what I am doing I have 6 cursors on different tables, I loop through each cursor and get some specific data that I need to place at one place after looping through all the cursors which then finally needs to be inserted in one table. But before the insert I need to validate each data so want to have all the data in some array or some other place for temporary storage from it's easier to do the validate and insert rather than while looping through the cursors as there may be duplicates which I am trying to remove.
    As this procedure will be called multiple times so wanted to save the cursor data in temporary array before inserting in the final table. Looking for some faster and efficient way.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    guest0012 wrote:
    All the 6 cursors are independent and no relation i.e. can have a join and have one sql as no relationship in tables.If there is no relation, then what are your code doing combining unrelated rows into the same GTT/array?
    Now using GTT when I do an insert how do I make sure the same data doesnot already exists. i.e. GTT will only have one column. Then create a unique index or primary key for the GTT and use that to enforce uniqueness.
    So everytime I iterate over a cursor I have to insert into GTT and then finally again have to iterate over GTT and then do an insert in the final table which maybe a performance issue Which is why using SQL will be faster and more scalable - and if PL/SQL code/logic can be used to glue these "no relationship" tables together, why can't that not be done in SQL?
    that's why i was wondering if can use any kind of array or collection as it will be a collection of numbersAnd that will reside in expensive PGA memory. Which means a limit on the size of the collection/array you can safely create without impacting server performance, or even cause a server crash by exhausting all virtual memory and causing swap space to trash.
    and finally will just iterate ovr array and use FOR ALL for insert but don't know what will be the size of the array as I only know after looping the cursors the total number of records to be stored. So wondering if how to do it through collection/array is there a way to intialize the array and keep populating it with the data with defining the size before hand.You cannot append the bulk collect of one cursor into the collection used for bulk collecting another cursor.
    Collections are automatically sized to the number of rows fetched. If you want to manually size collection, the Extend() method needs to be used, where the method's argument specifies the number of cells/locations to add to the collection.
    From what you describe about the issue you have - collections are not the correct choice. If you are going to put the different tables's data into the same collection, then you can also combine those tables's data using a single SQL projection (via a UNION for example).
    And doing the data crunching side in SQL is always superior in scalability and performance, than doing it in PL/SQL.

  • Is there a way to list all the file names (automatically) in a folder to dynamic text box?

    Hi,
    I would like to know whether FLASH AS3 has some option to get all the files names from a folder specified and show it in a dynamic text box? Whenever some new files added to this folder it should update the list accordingly.
    Thanks for any information in this regard.

    Not particularly experienced in this field myself, but I've found its just easier to implement an XML file which lists the contents of the folder. It just means that when you upload a new file you have to add it to the list in the xml file also. No real hardship once you figure out the mechanics of it

  • How can I load a .TXT file into a dynamic text box?

    I am sure that many people know how to load a .txt file into
    a dynamic text box. But I do not. I want to be able to reference a
    txt file from the server into the text box. So that when I change
    the text file it changes in the flash movie without even editing
    the flash file itself. Thank you.

    I think this is the simplest way to go :)
