Dynamically changing elements in an array of menu ring controls

I have an array (32 rows, 5 columns) of menu ring controls.  When a menu selection is made in the first column of any given row, the contents of the menu ring for the subsequent columns (same row) may change.  If this is possible, how would you do it?  Thanks.

A ring is just a number as far as LabVIEW is concerned, so the underlying cluster need only store numbers, not rings.
In the example I posted in a linked thread, where controls are moved around on top of a table, you need only one ring control. Each time you show that ring, you can assign a new set of strings and values to it, using the Strings and Values property. You can decide what set of strings to show based on the existing data in the cluster, which will get updated each time you change the value in a cell of the table. Does that make sense? I don't have time right now to put together a more detailed example than what I've already uploaded in other threads, and it's only a small change to that.
You update the menu ring at the time the user wants to select a value from it, not at the time the user changes the value that determines what set of menu items to show.

    Hi Veeru,
you change the index of your array between 0 and 1 for every element. Do you want a binary display? If yes you switch the on color of your LEDs to blue and off to black. Then you can use the attached code.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to change the numbers of items in a ring control in run time ?

    Hi !
I would like change the numbers of items in a ring control in run time, but I can´t.
    Thanks.

    Hello blaze,
did you try the "Strings And Values []" property of the ring?
    LabView7.1 help says:
Array of clusters containing the strings from which you can select in the ring control
and the numeric values for each item. Use the Strings [] property if you do not need to
assign specific numeric values to each item.

  • Initializing menu ring elements in array

I know that it is possible to initialize the elements of a menu ring using the property STRINGS[]. I have an array of 16 menu rings for labeling DAQ channels, and need to initialize the rings based of the set of available sensors (ie some sensors are retired, or out for calibration, new ones purchased). Is there a way to expose this property for an array of menu rings?

This seems to work, but I don't know how it would behave in a compiled application.
Use a property node to get the Array Element.Reference.
From the front panel, select the ring inside the array and Create Reference (switches to BD and places a constant)
Use 'To More Specific Class' to convert the array Element Reference to a menu ring ref using the constant from above.
    Set the strings Property.

  • Menu Ring in Array

    Hello,
I've got an array of menu rings and I want to programmatically change the
menu ring in each array element. For a menu ring, there is a property
available called 'Strings' that I can change, but how do I make it change
for all the elements in the array?
    Thanks,
    Peter

You can create a property node for the element-type of your array. Any changes you make to the properties (including the "Strings") will apply to all elements. Create the property node by right-clicking on the menu ring inside the array on the front panel. The pop-up menu should have a "Create" option from which a sub-menu branches. Select Property Node from the sub-menu. You can also use control references to get at the menu ring's properties.

  • How to disable multiple items in menu ring?

Hi I have a difficulty understanding on how to disable the items in the menu ring control. I need to know so that I will enable some items for the future products for testing. And why is the first item disabled? How can I disable the right items?
    Attachments:
    disabled_items.vi ‏23 KB

    Your vi works perfectly :
you are disabling the menu items wich correspond to the elements of the 1D array :
    -if the array is empty, no element is disabled;
    -if the array contains 1 element, for instance = 3, the forth (3+1) menu item will be disabled. If the array element equal zero, then the first menu item will be disabled;
    - if the array contains 2 elements, then two corresponding menu items will be disabled, and so on...

  • DOing same function as Runtime short cut menus example except with menu ring...

Newbie here: I am attempting to create a slide out menu much like the one in the Runtime short cut menu example (in example finder) except with a menu ring instead of the list box that is used in the example.  I have a menu ring with 8 values in it and on 3 of the option I would like a secondary menu that slides out to the side that displays another sub-menu.  Can this be done easily/efficiently?  I am looking at other alternatives but this option would be the best for my application from a user stand point.  Any help and examples would be appreciated.
    Thank you

What is being shown in that example is how you can modify or create your own runtime menus (aka popup menus or right-click menus) for a given control.  Basically you customize the menu and then use event cases to handle what to do for the menu selections.
Now a menu-ring control is a different beast entirely, BUT it looks almost exactly the same, so I see why the two could be confused.  As far as I know, there's no support in a menu ring for multiple menu levels.
Often times I find that effective labview GUI design (and well, design in general) works best with a compromise of what you imagine for what you can do easily and simply.  Flow like water: find a native control behavior that's *good enough*.
But! here's a hack that might get what you want.  It sounds like you want the multi-levelness of a right-click menu but without having to right-click?  Use a "mousedown?" filtering event to replace left-clicking with right-clicks!  Now when the user left-clicks, labview will tell the OS that they right-clicked.

  • How can I change the properties of only one element in an array of booleans?

I'm displaying an array of booleans to my operators, with each boolean in the array representing some system status check.  Some of these checks are critical and some are not, therefore I want some of these booleans to have a different color when in the TRUE state (Red for the critical ones and Yellow for the non-critical ones).  I can change the boolean colors with a property node, but that effects every element in the array.  Is there any way to change a property of an individual element in an array?  I know that I could take the incoming array and break it into two arrays - one for critical and one for non-critical, but this system is replacing an older system and the operators are accustomed to seeing their indicator lights a certain way and I'm trying to replicate what they had exactly.

Here's what I had in mind
Of course you can use as many colors as you want.

  • How can I change all Inf elements in an array to a specific value?

I would like to change all Inf elements in my array to -1. Basically, I am looking for something similar to the range and coerce function, except that I want all values above a certain value to be a specific negative value, rather than go to that value.
I could use a case structure and go through each element in the array, but I am hoping to find something more efficient.Any ideas?

  • How to change the properties of individulal elements in an array?

    Hi all,
I have an array (size is 25) of string and I want to disable and grayout half of them. But how do I do it? How do I change the properties of individual elements in an array? Anybody would be able to help me with a suitable example that can be specifically used for disable or enable the individual array  elements?

I would suggest to use a listbox as control/indicator. Here elements can easily be disabled programmatically.

  • Can we change the property of each element of an array using property node or by other methods?

    Hello all,
Can we change the property of the elements of an array. For example:
I have an array of combo-boxes. Can i have such a scenario that different combo-boxes of the array will have different items to select an item.
I am able to set the different "values" in different combo-boxes bu using "to be more specific class" property node.
But i could not set the different item list in different combo-boxes.
    Please give me the solution.

    Thanks a million dave!!!!!
I have learnt a very new and innovative thing...
I just wanna ask you one more question in the above context.
Can i have listbox or combo-box in a table just like in an excel sheet where we can have listbox by using "data validation" property for different cells having different list. Can i have this in labview. Because for this i have to super-impose the combo-boxes on the table and treat them separately.
We have to take those combo-box values and put in table and then store it.I have attached one VI to show the scenario.
And this is the alternative solution of the array problem which u have already given. So please suggest me between the two or any alternative solution.

  • Change properties of a cluster element withing an array of clusters

    Hello all,
I have an array of cluster that is shaped as a line with different display elements.
A list or a tree wouldn't have made it, so I had to use a cluster and make a table.
The problem is that I want to change not only the text but also the text color.
    Individually.
    I found this :

But it change the property in all the clusters in the array, not just the one I need.

Obviously, while in a list/table or tree you can change the property of an individual
cell (font, color) you cannot do it within an array of cluster, by some sort of magic,
the property of a cluster element (font, color) are all linked together, hence rendering
the use of an array worthless.
A possible hack is proprosed by using control masking, setting one visible and the
other invisble, swapping their position, whatever. It's a hack you have to perform,
hence add another code to maintain.
Is that still the case or is there now a more official way to handle individual cluster
properties, not just its data ? After all that's a common real-life example that should
be handled by Labview. In my opinion.

    any solution pls.
    Muhammad Farooq

    for ur current requirement
    u can use replace_menu() built-in in when-new-form-instance trigger.
    there is an alternative method
create a single menu item(for both operator and admin)
    select user profile at runtime.
hide/unhide menu,menu-item according to user at when-new-form-instance trigger
