Dynamically load xml into TextArea

How can I include text from an xml file (loaded using URLLoader) into a TextArea. Flex is stripping the brackets <, >, and mangling the text output.
thx

Try the toXMLString() method.

• How to dynamically load images into Flash

I have a movie clip on the stage that I want to dynamically
load images into (that constantly change), how would I go about
doing this? Thanks.

Use the Loader class to load in images.
Then use addChild to add the Loader class into your MovieClip
on the stage.
As far as "constantly change" what
do you mean by that? You could use setInterval, ther enterFrame
event, or any other means to trigger a new image to be loaded into
the Loader instance.
Finally, you can use the Tween class to create some nice
effects for the images (fade it, blur in, photo blend, masks,
etc)

• Help needed to load XML into DB table

I need some serious help if someone can spare the time. I am completely new to XML and don't really understand it yet but I need to be able to load an XML file (example) below.
I want to load this into a table that would look like the following:
CHAPTER_TITLE    DOC_HTML    DOC_TITLE
Men's Health      494440          AAAAA
Men's Health      496812          BBBBB

Is there a simple example someone can help me out with?

That is very close ORA_SID thank you. But I get the ORA-19025 error when I have more than one Chapter section. The example was a cut down version, ther real file has thousands of Chapters.

I wanted to be able to load xml data into a datagrid and then create a searchbox that would search in real time (as person typed) from any part of the datagrid. Does anyone know of any as2.0 component that can do that easily? If not, i would like to try to tackle this the old fashioned and use this to teach myself as2.0 advanced coding. can someone point to a step by step or explain how i might get this accomplished? from loading the xml to putting the node info into the datagrid, to being able to search it in real time. This is part of a project that i was given that has some serious consequences if i botch it. Please help! Thanks so much!

• Loading xml into relational tables.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a product/libraries which does the following:
-Read data from a relational Database (multiple tables) and generate XML files based upon an XML Schema or DTD file?
-Read XML files and load data into a relational Database.
-Graphical Interface for performing the maps (perhaps based upon .xslt). ie.... Mapping of the XML Schema to Multiple Database Tables, Performing Joins etc...
-Ability to connect to any type of Relational database (not just Oracle). Which rules out XML DB.

This product does look to be ok, however it is missing a couple features that I would like the product to have.
I would like this product to be able to insert/update data across multiple tables. Being able to do such things as generate foreign key relationships.
It doesn't seem as though the XML being generated can be customized very easily. Some XML formats I deal with are very complex (such as X12/EDI).
I would really like a graphical mapper.
Here is a note from the doc:
Storing XML Data Across Tables
Currently the XML SQL Utility (XSU) can only store data in a single table. It maps a canonical representation of an XML document into any table or view. But there is a way to store XML with XSU across tables. You can do this using XSLT to transform any document into multiple documents and insert them separately. Another way is to define views over multiple tables (using object views if needed) and then do the insertions into the view. If the view is inherently non-updatable (because of complex joins), then you can use INSTEAD OF triggers over the views to do the inserts.
This product looks really good, I was hoping that Oracle had something comparable:

• Issue after succesfully loading xml into 11gr2 database

Hi All,
I'm currently experiencing an issue with a project I'm working on at a customer:
I have succesfully loaded multiple xml files into the Oracle 11gr2 database using sqlloader and since the intention is to be able to query the loaded data, it needs
to be transferred from the xml table to a 'normal' table, which also went ok.
Since most of the XML files contain multiple records, i've used the fn:string-join option in the insert into....select statement and used a ; as delimiter.
This is where I've encountered the thing that I can't seem to find a solution for.
When there's multiple records in the xml file it inserts all the records into one record.
So say i've got an xml file containing info for a bunch of electricity meters consisting of the fields brand, supplier, type for 3 records (actual files can be uploaded if neccesary)
inserting the data by using the above construction gives me the following data in the destination table:
Brand
BrandA;BrandB;BrandC
Supplier
Company1;Company2;Company3
Type
Type1;Type2;Type3
How do I split up the above info so that every separate record from the imported xml file lands in its own record?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
E.

• How To Load XML into a Table

Hello All,
I need to load many XML files into their own tables without using the XMLType column type. We need each element/attribute to get it's own column. For example
<book id="bk103">
<genre>Mystery</genre>
</book>
should load to a table with columns ID, GENRE of type varchar2. I have 1000s of XML files that need to be loaded, each with different data/structure. Ideally, I want to be able to point a SP at a folder that contains, say 250 XML files, run it, then have it create 250 tables each with a column set corresponding to each element/attribute from the XML file. Given that each XML file has a different structure, I need a solution that does not require a table to already exist. A solution that figures it out on the fly, perhaps using the VARCHAR2 type for all columns, would be best. I did notice this post, but it first requires the table to already exist. Is there a way to load 1 or more XML files into their own table with non XMLType datatypes where each table is created on the fly?
Any help appreciated,
TIA
Rob

Thanks for the response but I am not finding the information helpful. The examples provided assume the table into which the XML file is loaded already exists or a CREATE TABLE script is run. I need a solution that creates the table automagically. Can someone provide an example of this please? Also, I'm looking for a PL/SQL SP-based solution if this is possible. Many of the examples use Java; we're using .NET.

• Is there a feature to load XML into Oracle 9 ?

Hello,
I receive some XML files containing error messages from an external vendor, so i want to load these files into my database, yet i never worked with xml for import, so i dont really know if oracle has a build in feature like sqlldr, that i could make use of.
I run Solaris 5.8, so i could surely build a shellscript to do the job, as files are consistent. Just i wanted to use oracles tool, if there is any :)

• Dynamically loading text into SWF

I'm building a flash web site and here are a couple parts of
the site the client is going to want to update regularly. Is there
a simple way that I can have an external file (XML?) that a client
can edit to update parts of the site without having to re-export
the swf or involve me, without getting into any real heavy
scripting?
Anything you can do to get me pointed in the right direction
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Couple of quick questions... For the Textfields:
a)Do you have the textfields already on stage (in other words
your "5 or so" comment in your first post is fixed to the number of
textfields you put on stage). If so, what the names of the
textfields and in what scope (e.g. main timeline or inside a clip
called "textHolder" etc.
b)Or do you want them created dynamically by code? If they
are to be created dynamically by code, are they to be placed in
fixed (scattered) locations or is there a pattern - e.g. are evenly
spaced? If the positions are fixed and do not fall into pattern...
then what are they (in sequence) or if they are in a layout pattern
please describe it.

• Dynamically load content into a "template" swf from text file

I have a dream....
Well, I have a concept. I have not actively pursued Flash in
several years, though I've continued to have it in my arsenal. I've
not done much in the action scripting realm for a while though.
I am trying to create a template that will be used for about
100 different product pages.
It would have two tabs, basically, 2 different graphical
button sets. One will have up to 4 links to similar products, each
tab will be on the side of a square, and I need the ability to not
display a tab if there is no actual link.
As for the other tab, Its a menu that consists of a series of
lines. This can be an external menu, I just need a way to have
flash load the right menu. This menu, when you mouse over a line,
the name of the product appears, as well as a product image that
gets loaded with the menu. The product images would be external,
allowing me to simply replace an image if a new higher end version
of the product comes out.
So, I am totally not an actionscripter. Looks like I need to
load variables from an external file. Can I set a property in the
flash code on the html that tells the movie what dataset to grab
from?
Here's basically what I am looking for
property: value
(load variables for:)
item: 44
(menu1)
faster: 54b.html
slower: 34d.html
left: 43d.html
right: 45c.html
(menu2)
menu:graph5.swf
(menu loads images from external source)
link51: 51d.html
link52: 52c.html
link53: 53c.html
link54: 54d.html
link55: 55b.html
link56: 56d.html
A possible third menu would be text driven, and would use
html to link to various items.
This is a static site, so urls will be fixed.
Is it best to build a php page that serves up data for a
single item, or do one big text file with all 100 or so items? Is
that even possible?
My Flash since MX is very rusty. I am using Flash Pro8. I
would love to create a single file so modifications are to the text
files, unless a new item is released, then it's updating a single
flash menu and updating the text file.
Been spending way too much time in InDesign lately! I used to
be pretty good at Flash!

well sorry there fanmap - but I don't think you're going to
be able to get this to work. here's why: the link points to a php
file - which gathers dynamic info from a DB - the return from the
php is generating a string that is based on the DOM and
'constructs' a javascript method that in turn writes to the html
document. although we can embed html into a textField in Flash
there are a limited number of supported html tags - and JS methods
will not operate internally. in addition, (i'm not certain someone
correct this if i'm off) there's no way to 'change' the output of
the php call, therefore you will not be able to read the return
because it is designed to use the DOM and write solely to the
current document. Even if you were to access the JS method from the
swf file (which one can) it will still only write the content of
the php return to the html document - and the output is not
compatible with the textField class.

• Dynamically loading xml content

I’m creating a menu bar in which the links have to be
dynamically created based on the values in the xml, and the number
of links(buttons) may even exceed 100.
The menu bar will be displayed in the horizontal manner. I
have the following questions, can any one help me ?
1. How to create the buttons dynamically based on the number
of entries in the xml..?
2. How to have a on (release) action common to all even
though they have to perform different action.(such as loading a
movie based on the button clicked)
3. When the number of links becomes more how to have a
horizontal scrolling effect for this.
4. I even want to change the colors of some dynamic buttons
to be changed based on some values in the xml. Can this be done?

Hi
Most of what you want is here -

Check out the 3 Carousel Tutorials, although its not a
horizontal navbar is does everything else you want
Hope it helps

• Dynamically Loading .jar into the AppletClassLoader of Signed Applet

First of all, I thank you for reading this post. I will do everything I can to be concise, as I know you have things to do. If you're really busy, I summarize my question at the bottom of this post.
My goal:
1.) User opens applet page. As quickly as possible, he sees the "accept certificate" dialog.
2.) Applet gets OS vendor, and downloads native libraries (.dll for windows, etc.) and saves them in user.home/ my new dir: .taifDDR
3.) Calls are made to System.load(the downloaded .dlls) to get the natives available.
4.) Applet downloads the .jar files that we stripped so that the applet was smaller, one by one
5.) For each .jar downloaded, it goes through the entries, decodes the .class files, and shoves them onto the AppletClassLoader.
6.) Finally, the looping drawmation of the applet is linked to a subclass, that now has everything it needs to do what it wants.
I have gotten all the way to step 5!!! It was amazing!
But now I'm stuck on step 5. I can download the .jar files, read them, even decode the classes!
As evidence, I had it print out random Methods using reflection on the created classes:
public net.java.games.input.Component$Identifier net.java.games.input.AbstractComponent.getIdentifier()
public final void net.java.games.input.AbstractController.setEventQueueSize(int)
public java.lang.String net.java.games.input.Component$Identifier.toString()
public final native void java.lang.Object.wait(long) throws java.lang.InterruptedException
... many many more So, its frustrating! I have the Class objects! But, whenever the applet begins to try to, say instantiate a new ControllerEnvironment (jinput library), it says ClassNotFoundException, because even though I made those Classes, they aren't linked to the system classLoader!
Here is how I am loading the classes from the jar and attempting to shove them on the appletclassloader:
ClassLoader load = null;
try {
load = new AllPermissionsClassLoader(new URL[]{new File(url).toURL()});
} catch (MalformedURLException e2) {
e2.printStackTrace();
final JarFile ajar = new JarFile(url);
... we iterate over the elements (trust me, this part works)
String name = entry.getName();
if (name.endsWith(".class")) {
name = name.substring(0, name.length() - 6);
name = name.replace('/', '.');
Class g = load.loadClass(name);
public class AllPermissionsClassLoader extends URLClassLoader {
public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls) {
super(urls);
public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls, ClassLoader parent) {
super(urls, parent);
System.out.println(parent);
public AllPermissionsClassLoader (URL[] urls, ClassLoader parent, URLStreamHandlerFactory factory) {
super(urls, parent, factory);
protected PermissionCollection getPermissions (CodeSource codesource) {
Permissions permissions = new Permissions();
permissions.add(new AllPermission());
return permissions;
}so, my assumption here is that if I create a new AllPermissionsClassLoader and then call loadClass, the loaded class (because it does return a valid Class object) is usable globally across my applet. If this is not true, how should I else be doing this? Thank you for Any advice you could offer!

I know it's two years ago but the OP's approach seems pointless to me.
4.) Applet downloads the .jar files that we stripped so that the applet was smaller, one by oneWhy? Just name the JAR files in the CLASSPATH attribute of the <applet> tag. Then what you describe in (5) and (6) happens automatically on demand.
protected PermissionCollection getPermissions (CodeSource codesource) {Who does he think is going to call that?

• How to load XML files into ORACLE8i database?

SAP data is being extracted into XML format (via IDOC) files which are being transferred to an ORACLE8i box. There will be a large amount of data transferred on a daily basis which will include updates and inserts. From all the information that I have read on this subject there are 2 options available :
1. XML-SQL Utility - which converts XML into INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE SQL. There does not appear to be that much functionality available by this method for decodes, transformations on the input data.
2. SQL*Loader - There was a statement in 1 piece of documentation stating that SQL*Loader could be used for loading XML format data files. I cannot however find any further information on how this is achieved or how it works.
If anyone has any experience in loading XML format data files using either of the above methods (preferably SQL*Loader as it has more functionality) then could you please provide me with examples or guidance on this matter? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am not familiar with XML format data files. I am from an Oracle 7.3 background but do not have much experience with Oracle 8 onwards.
Disclaimer.
Any views expressed in the above paragraphs are my own and not that of Hewlett Packard Ltd.

We are loading XML into our database using CLOB datatypes. We don't use the XSU for inserts as it is too slow. We parse the incoming XML document into a PL/SQL record type and then build a generic insert. This might not work well if you have many tags to parse into columns. We also store the entire XML CLOB into a column without parsing the individual tags into separate columns. We then use Intermedia Text for fast, index-based searching within the XML column.
Check out The Oracle XML Portal website for code examples on how to do this:
