EBS R12 DR Setup (DATA GUARD)

I Am having issue with bringing up standby to be primary database for ebs get confuse what should be right value for all below
fnd_database.dbname >> prim or standby
database global name in data base initfile >> prim or standby
db global name in context file >> prim or ststandby
database service_names
tnsname.ora in 11.2.0 always reset to Sid=prim when I need it to be service=ststandby and  that make unable tregenerate listener.ora since can not connect to db with invalids entry in tnanames.ora
why I need to run ad config.sh with run=inste8. In standby app tier
DO you have good doc for ebs standby ?
thank you

  • How to setup Data guard for SAP database?

    Can someone please tell me how to setup data guard for SAP databases?
    Thanks,
    Abhi

    Hi Abhi,
    have a look at OSS 105047 - Support for Oracle functions in the SAP environment you find this under
    14
    Oracle Data Guard
    You can use "Physical Standby".
    You cannot use "Logical Standby".
    You are allowed to use Fast Start Failover (FSFO) but SAP Support is not provided.
    You can use Data Guard Broker.
    You can use Maximum Performance Mode, Maximum Availability Mode and Maximum Protection Mode.
    In the case of Maximum Availability and Maximum Protection, you must pay particular attention to a fast network connection in order to avoid performance problems.
    Maximum Protection causes the primary database to terminate if problems occur in the standby database.
    And here you find on Oracle white paper from 2010 http://www.oracle.com/us/solutions/sap/wp-ora4sap-dataguard11g-303811.pdf
    Perhaps some SAP user have answers for you http://scn.sap.com/community/oracle/content?query=guard

  • Oracle EBS R12 - DR setup using Oracle Data Guard

    Hi,
    Our customer has implemented Oracle EBS R12 (12.0.6) on a Two Node RAC on HP-UX env. The application Tier also has Two Nodes(Admin Tier and Web Tier).
    Oracle Clusterware - OCR and Vote Disk are on Raw Devices and the EBS database is on ASM.
    Customer wants to implement a DR solution with Oracle Data Guard with only 2 servers - 1 for the Database Tier and 1 for the Application Tier on the DR Site.
    I would like to know if this could be done by following note: 452056.1? I would also like to know if there are other useful docs.
    Thanks.
    Thiru

    Hi,
    Customer escalated this issue to Oracle and they came up with this reply:
    They can implement Disaster recovery solution from RAC to NON RAC using Solution A which use RMAN utilities for backup and recovery.
    While now AMP Application Management Pack gives the capablitiy to build non RAC from RAC Envioment, In future AMP will be capable also to support cloning of DB with Data Guard.
    Details
    Solution A - Using RMAN:
    For Release 12 customers, you can clone from a RAC to RAC (like to like) or RAC to non-RAC. This is using RMAN scripts to take a copy of the db when it’s in archive mode. if you’re leveraging any disaster recovery tools like data guard, the above solution should work fine…perhaps some fine tuning to the procedures
    Solution B - Using AMP in the future release
    For Release 11i , Release 12.x customers, AMP would be offering a new cloning solution that wouldn’t have dependency on Rapid Clone. This solution leverages the strengths of EM Grid Control in provisioning or cloning targets such as databases. This would be an advance solution that would support:
    o A full-fledged scale down cloning
    o Cloning of EBS deployed on Shared File System
    o Hot and Cold mode cloning
    o Quantifiable reduction in clone time for the entire EBS system
    This solution would be leveraging EM grid Control’s DB provisioning pack’s clone utilities, that are quite advanced and support cloning of DB with Data Guard.
    The recommendation is to start trialing AMP version 3.0, making the purchase and implementing within the Enterprise. As we release the new version of AMP (release 3.0.1), Customer would be in a better position to quickly implement the latest features
    Can anyone let me know if the solution A suggested will work.
    Rgds,
    Thiru

    Hardware Requirements
    ===============
    Because there are different product combinations, different user profiles, and different configurations, there is no one sizing answer for all hardware platforms. Some
    hardware vendors have sizing worksheets that model the CPU and memory requirements of Oracle Applications on their hardware. The most reliable strategy to ensure that the hardware is sized appropriately is to install a test environment, and then set a benchmark with a configuration, product mix, and user load that simulates your own current and expected workloads. These "actual" conditions can help verify performance before you install your production-ready environment. If such a benchmark is not feasible, Oracle Consulting Services and your hardware vendor can help you find another Oracle Applications system running a product mix and user profile similar to yours.

  • Data guard setup for 2 node RAC primary to 2 node RAC standby

    Hi All,
    I am going to setup data guard for 2 node RAC primary to 2 node RAC standby on Oracle 10.2.0.4. in AIX5L.
    Can you please provide the document on the above setup which is having all the steps (details).
    Also, the documents on different scenarios like
    1) If one node of standby goes down, how the redo logs will be applied. IS there any problem?
    2) If both nodes of standby are failed, how to reciver them?
    3) If one node of primary fails, is there any issue?
    4) If two nodes of primary fails, is there any issue?
    Thanks in advance,

  • How to remove data guard broker configuration when  ORA-16625?

    I setup data guard broker for a standby database. However, we recreate the database and re-setup the standby database. But find the earlier broker configuration still exists. But I cannot remove or disable the configuration or any database within the configuration. When I try to do so I got the error, although all network settings are correct:
    Error: ORA-16625: cannot reach the database
    How to remove the configuration at this stage?
    Thanks for help,

    Hi, I saw same issue when doing switchover testing in my lab environment.prerequisite is primary role and standby role switched and og can be applied without data guard broker.
    Here is the step I resolved the issue
    1)on both primary and standby database
    SQL> alter system set dg_borker_start=false;
    on primary DB:
    SQL>alter system set dg_broker_config_file1='?/dbs/dr1afterswichoverpry.dat';
    SQL>alter system set dg_broker_config_file1='?/dbs/dr2afterswichoverpry.dat';
    on standby DB:
    SQL>alter system set dg_broker_config_file1='?/dbs/dr1afterswichoverstby.dat';
    SQL>alter system set dg_broker_config_file1='?/dbs/dr2afterswichoverstby.dat';
    2) enable dg_borker_start on both primay and sandbby db
    SQL> alter system set dg_borker_start=true;
    3)on primary database to create configuration
    Hope this can help you!

  • Data Guard Summary problem using Grid Control.

    I setup data guard using Grid Control and after completion, the console of the standby database shows: "Unable to determine Data Guard information." under the Data Guard Summary section. The primary database is not showing the standby. I'm using Red Hat Linux Server 5.7 (64bit) and Oracle 10.2.0.5. This is a standalone (no RAC or ASM involved). When I run show configuration, the following comes up:
    DGMGRL> SHOW CONFIGURATION;
    Configuration
    Name: PRODDB_ghph@ora01
    Enabled: YES
    Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
    Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
    Databases:
    ghph - Primary database
    gsbh - Physical standby database (disabled)
    Current status for "PRODDB_ghph@ora01":
    SUCCESS
    I tried searching online and metalink but nothing. Any help in solving this problem would be appreciated. TIA

    Can you confirm that only archive sequence * 58673* is missing or any more? If you have less number of archives are missing then see how the parameters you configured. like FAL_SERVER, LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG, LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n so on.
    Check below command and see any errors with remote destinations
    select severity,error_code,to_char(timestamp,'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') "timestamp" , message from v$dataguard_status where dest_id=2;Source: http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/dataguard_troubleshoot_snapper/
    If the archives are missing so many and you do not have backup, then certainly you have to choose incremental roll forward to synchronize the primary database, then only you can see the configuration status of Broker as valid. You can refer this article to perform incremental roll forward http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/rman-incremental-backups-to-roll-forward-a-physical-standby-database-2/

  • About Data Guard - Physical Standby Database

    Dear All,
    I have read many documents regading Data Guard.
    I am about to setup Data Guard in our current environment but want to clear few tings.
    I have a confusion between physical and logical standby database.
    What I have read from different documents is:
    -Physical Standby Database in (11g)
    1) It is the most efFicient
    2) I can be either in mount or open state
    3) Select queries and reporting can be done to improve performance of the primary database.
    4) Schema on primary and standby database is always the same
    -- Logical Standby Database
    1) You can create additional tables, indexes, etc.
    2) Always in open mode
    3) Select queries and reporting can be done to improve performance of the primary database
    Now our scenerio is, that we have one server at the moment, OS is linux and operating system is 11g. We want to setup an other server in another country, will also be 11g on Linux in a way that it acts as standby/backup server. Schema and data is always the same. In case due to unavailability of primary server, standby server acts as the primary server (This has to be automated). The reason for unavailability could be any like maintenance work on primary server, network or hardware failure at primary server. The last and the most important thing is that users from this country where we will setup standby database will insert/update data on the primary server BUT queries and reporting will be done from this newly created standby data.
    Kindly recomend the best Data Guard in this scenerio and kindly correct me where I am wrong.
    Thanks, Imran

    A logical standby has various limitations on things like data types. It's also a much more complex architecture, which makes it more likely that something will break periodically and require attention. Applying redo to a physical standby is code that has been around forever and is as close to bullet-proof as you'll get. And you would generally prefer to fail over to a physical standby-- if you do things like create new objects in the logical standby, you may have to get rid of those objects during a failover to get acceptable OLTP performance.

  • Data Guard instance - Additional Listener

    Hi,
    I have 2 node cluster RAC 11gr2 and want to setup data guard  on remote site with 2 node RAC instance. Do I prefer to have separate listener for data guard? Is this best practices or do I need to prefer to have scan listener?
    Does any one have any DG best practices doc or ML?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Check out this note - Data Guard Physical Standby 11.2 RAC Primary to RAC Standby using a second network (Doc ID 1349977.1)
    Additional listener only for DG traffic is a good solution - you can disable access for users and still have a working DG infrastructure.

  • Data Guard on RAC

    hello
    is there any special configuration or guidelines to setup data guard on an Oracle Clustered database, or just like the single instance ?
    many thanks

    Hi,
    Do you mean that each instance on a cluster have its own spfile, and i have to edit each spfile separatly for redo shipping to the standby?
    All instances in cluster database must use the same shared spfile.. Also you can edit spfile.. you will have to update it using command:
    alter system set parametername=value scope=spfile sid=instancename
    my second question is that each instance generates its own archive redo logs , so this would not require that the standby database to be clustered, right ? it will apply the redo logs coming for whatever cluster instance , is that right? even if its a single non clustered standby instance...
    You can have a single instance standby and all logs from all primary instances will be applied to it..
    Regards
    Rajesh

  • Data Guard Missing Redo Archive Logs

    Hi All Gurus
    I have setup data guard on windows 2008 server sp2 with oracle 10.2.0.4.0 (Both OS & Oracle DB are 64 bits).
    The Network Admin have shutdown Backup server. Now when I checked the Archive status as follows
    1. select * from v$archive_gap;            It shows a gap in archives       e.g. 891 - 920.
    2. SELECT THREAD#, SEQUENCE#, APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG;                 e.g. 891-920 Not Applied.
    Now I issue following command
    1. SELECT RECOVERY_MODE FROM V$ARCHIVE_DEST_STATUS;                                e.g. MANAGED REAL TIME APPLY
    2.  DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;
    or  ALTER DATABASE RECOVER  managed standby database disconnect from session ;
                        e.g.      incompatible Media Recovery in Progress
    3. Alert Log says Adjust CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME to sufficient limits.
    I have also adjusted CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME to 90 days as follows
    4. show parameter control_file          e.g. CONTROL_FILE_RECORD_KEEP_TIME=90
    5. I have checked firewall and tnsping for both Primary and Standby Server e.g. tnsping CVMIS (Primary), CVMISBK (Standby)
         Both are OK. TNSPING is showing 10-30msec delay.
    6. I have checked the web for gap Removal, Mostly are using RMAN method to Backup and then Restore to Standby DB.
          Is there any other way to fill this gap without using RMAN? I mean DG automatically fill it by using some commands
         are settings?
    Kind Regards

    Well there seems to be some connectivity issue on Primary DB (I Guess!!!).
    But when I issue tnsping from Primary Database, the result is
    SQL> host tnsping umisbk (Standy DB Name)  --->   Status: OK [10-30msec]
    And when I issue tnsping from Standby Database, the result is
    SQL> host tnsping umis (Primary DB Name)    --->   Status: OK [10-30msec]
    So what your Recommendation.
    Kind Regards

  • Data Guard Set-up

    Hi All,
    Platform - RHEL 6, Oracle 11gR2.
    My Primary server is new hardware with more space and memory. The data files are striped across more mount points. Memory - 16G
    Plan to install a Oracle Data Guard 11gR2 on a old server for testing only. Memory 3G. Due to lack of space we can't have so many mount points as production.
    My question is Can I setup Data Guard in this limitation on my test server. How will it map with the mount points in production system.?
    Is there any good document on this.?

    Plan to install a Oracle Data Guard 11gR2 on a old server for testing only. Memory 3G. Due to lack of space we can't have so many mount points as production.
    My question is Can I setup Data Guard in this limitation on my test server. How will it map with the mount points in production system.?The setup is same, But it will depends on how you use parameters.
    Lets suppose you want to perform to build standby using RMAN duplicate, Even the datafiles are stripped in different mount points, just you need to take care of parameters
    Ex: primary locations /u01/oradata/prod, /u02/oradata/prod, /u03/oradata/prod
    Standby location just /u05/oradata/stby
    So you have to configure them as
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='/u01/oradata/prod','/u05/oradata/stby','/u02/oradata/prim','/u05/oradata/stby','/u03/oradata/prod','/u05/oradata/stby'
    Also take care of LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT
    refer this.

    Remaining configuration is same. check below links for that

    You can perform RMAN duplicate from active database for the versions from 11gRx
