Echo on 4s IOS 7.1.1.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ECHO SOUND ON MY IPHONE 4S IOS 7.1.1. I HEAR EVERY CONVERSATION VERRY WELL BUT THE OTHER PERSON IS HEARING ITSELF WITH ECHO. WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE? I CHANGE THE MICROSIM AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOURS ANSWERS.

Hey there alinutzul,
It sounds like you are unable to make a call without the receiving party hearing you as an echo, even after changing out the sim card. I would use the Microphone troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot that, named:
iPhone: Microphone issues
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (refer to the pictures below to find your device's microphones). Check for these:
Dirt or debris
A screen protector or case
When you're holding your phone next to your ear, make sure you don't block the microphone with your fingers or shoulder and make sure to speak into the microphone
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ADT packaging with native extensions : permission denied error when running remote build.

    Hi Team,
    We are facing the following error when running the nightly ant build script on Mac machine for our air mobile application. We are using iOS native extensions and package with ADT. This works fine when we run the build as local user in the Mac machine. Earlier we faced some issues due to headless build and we have added the <headless-server>true</headless-server> in corresponding config files (flex-config.xml, airmobile-config.xml). After that we are facing the following error, even when we run the ant build in headless mode using the following command.
    ant -Djava.awt.headless=true -f build.xml buildPackage
    When running this build as local user in the Mac build machine, we see a window opening with com.adobe.air.ADT while packaging. This is the issue when running nightly build as there is no graphics window.
    Can anybody please help how to get rid of this issue for nightly build using adt,jar?

    Note: Before the above error that were two other errors .
    1) The build complained that the adt-bundle-linux toolchain could not be found and required that it be added to .mozconfig. This was done.
    2) The build complained that dx could not be found.
    The configure file was edited and the values $DX, $AAPT and $AIDL were all set to the adt-bundle-linux/sdk/build-tools/android-4.4 path.
    The instructions given on the Mozilla Wiki did not work right for Android and several modifications were made to move it along. But this permission error is tough to figure out.

  • Monitoring network Latency

    I want to write a script using "fping" to monitor my network latency and packet loss. since on the server I am running the script don't have root permission I can't use ICMP the other option I have TCP or UDP depend on available open port on router/switch . my question is there any draw back using TCP or UDP ping in terms of result quality and traffic? I am really appreciate fyour feedback. thanks. paul

    TCP and UDP "ping" typically rely on port 7 being open on the target devices.  This is almost never the case these days.  You can enable the UDP and TCP echo services on IOS devices with the command "service {udp|tcp}-small-services" but many consider them a security hole.  What would be best is if you can convince your admin to setuid the fping executable to root (i.e. chmod 4555 fping).  This way fping will be able to open raw sockets to produce ICMP traffic.  You are certainly more likely to have this work than relying on the echo service being available.
    Another alternative is to procure a small IOS device and run IP SLA on it.  With IP SLA you can test simple ICMP echo, or use more advanced probes such as TCP, UDP, jitter, HTTP, DHCP, and DNS.

  • Major echo after iOS 7.0.2 upgrade on iPhone 5

    After upgrading iPhone 5 to iOS 7.0.2 I get a major echo on calls that I did not get with iOS 7.0.  How do I get rid of this echo? Verizon is my carrier.

    No. The problem with the sound on mine is with the sound effects, such as the closing noise, shutter noise, alerts etc. It has a weird reverb effect. A hollow echo.
    When I get on a call and put the phone to my ear I can't hear what the person is saying, like its coming out really quite but like it's coming from the speaker very quiet instead of out of the earpiece. If I put it on speaker though it sounds fine.
    A friend suggested I put it in hearing aid mode which seems to have helped but still doesn't sound very good.
    This didn't start until I upgraded to 7.0.2 from the 7.0 beta 6.

  • I just updated to iOS 7.0.2and the sound on my iPad echoes how do I fix it

    I just updated to iOS 7 .0 .2 and the sound on my iPad echoes how do I fix it ?

    I am having the same issue with the sound echo on my iPhone 4S. It seems OK when I talk on the phone, but all the alert sounds do it. It did not happen with the first update to ios 7, just after I updated last night to ios 7.0.2. If anyone figures out a solution, I would love to know. The echo is irritating. Thanks!

  • After iOS 7 update, trying to call just results in echo feedback loop.

    It's happening to both my wife and I. She has a 4S, I have a 5.

    I have the same issue. Phone echo's like a toy mic after call ends. I am on the iPhone 5 with version 7.0.4. I even swapped for a new handset and it did not fix the issue. This never happened iOS 6.
    Can someone please help as it is very annoying and deters you from making the next immediate call.

  • Is there any way of storing audio- / video-elements in the browser cache in Safari in iOS?

    Hi there,
    I'm desperatly trying to find a solution for a web application that has to run on an iOS-Safari (e.g. on iPad, iPad2 and iPhone 4):
    It's a web-application I wrote some time ago which lets the user search for and listen to short music samples (MP3s, all from ~100 kB to ~1.5 MB). The audio player is Flash-based, so it doesn't work on iOS-devices at the moment and I'll have to implement an alternative either in HTML 5 or with a "direct" QuickTime-object.
    Both my HTML 5- and QuickTime-alternatives for iOS-devices work fine so far, but there's one major problem I can't find a solution to:
    Unlike Flash and most HTML 5-capable browsers on Windows Safari on my iPad 2 won't store the audiofiles in the browsercache after loading and playing them - neither with HTML 5 audio-tags nor with a QuickTime-Object. Every time I load an audio file for playback from the server (with JavaScript-Commands, so without changing or reloading the whole page) it's downloaded again completely.
    If a user listens to sample A and then to sample B, Safari forgot about having played sample A and downloads the whole MP3 again if I like to listen to it again. On a mobile device with a potentially narrow bandwith this behaviour is out of the question.
    Is there a way of storing downloaded audiofiles opened by HTML 5 or QuickTime in Safari's cache so it remembers already having downloaded them  -  like it caches usual "web-files" like HTML, CSS or JPEG-images, or like Flash stores such objects in its local cache?
    The Application Cache with a manifest-file is not an option - this only seems to work if the browser is offline, for example if the iOS-device is in "Airplane"-Mode.

    Yes, I watched it. It contains interesting stuff I have to admit I didn't know yet, but unfortunately I still can't find a solution to my problem:
    My first attempt was trying to use the Application Cache with a manifest file - although this is not really the intended purpose for my application... I don't have a static set of files that I want to have cached or "available offline"  -  I just want to cache MP3s which the user has played yet.
    It should be possible to use a "dynamic manifest": One that is parsed by the Apache PHP module and listing the files played so far from a PHP session - something like this:
    <?php
    session_start();
    header("Content-Type: text/cache-manifest, charset=UTF-8");
    echo "CACHE MANIFEST\n";
    foreach($_SESSION['playedSongs'] as $song)
        echo $song."\n";
    ?>
    So whenever a song is loaded / played, I could access the PHP session with AJAX, insert the filename of the played file and manually update the manifest by calling window.applicationCache.update().
    There are two problems with this:
    First of all: It doesn't work. And I didn't even get to the point of trying to use a dynamic manifest:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html manifest="cache.manifest">
        <head>
            <title>Test</title>
            <script type="text/javascript">
            function playStuff(id)
                if(id == 1)
                    window.document.getElementById("audio").innerHTML = '<audio controls preload="automatic" autobuffer><source src="song01.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /></audio>';
                else if(id == 2)
                    window.document.getElementById("audio").innerHTML = '<audio controls preload="automatic" autobuffer><source src="song02.mp3" type="audio/mp3" /></audio>';
            </script>
        </head>
        <body>
            <div id="audio"></div><br />
            <br />
            <input type="button" value="playStuff(1)" onclick="playStuff(1)" />
            <input type="button" value="playStuff(2)" onclick="playStuff(2)" />
        </body>
    </html>
    The cache.manifest looks like this:
    CACHE MANIFEST
    song01.mp3
    song02.mp3
    and is properly returned from Apache as "text/cache-manifest" by adding
    AddType text/cache-manifest manifest
    to the .htaccess of this directory.
    The Apache-logs clearly show that the Safari (respectively "AppleCoreMedia") doesn't care about the application cache when it comes to audio-files:
    Safari itself seems to acknowledge the manifest and indeed preload the files:

    Every file is downloaded again completely when playing it. So "AppleCoreMedia" (whatever this may be exactly, the QuickTime-plugin that is triggered by the HTML 5 audio-element I suppose?) either doesn't have access to the Application Cache or simply just doesn't realize the files in it. So if I switch my iPad to "Airplane Mode" now, the Safari is unable to access / load / play the files.
    I also tried using a QuickTime-object instead of an HTML 5 audio-tag (as far as I know HTML 5 audio and video in Safari always use QuickTime?) and controlling it with something like:
    document.movie1.SetURL('song02.mp3');
    Nothing changes, it's just like using HTML 5 audio and everything gets downloaded again when loading/playing it.
    And even if this would work there'd still be a problem:
    To properly implement that I would have to load the MP3-file in the Application Cache before playing it. When doing this it seems impossible to show a "real" progress: The ProgressEvent that is fired from the Application Cache after updating it doesn't seem to provide any information about data loaded so far and the complete size of a file. It's just "File 1 from 2" and so on, and not a "real" progress where I could determine something like: "100 kB of 1.2 MB loaded" as I can with the audio-element.
    All the other storage-approaches like Web SQL / Web Database or Local Storage are no help either:
    I don't see any way of getting the MP3 data into Local Storage or Web Database or getting it out again to play it. The HTML 5 Canvas-element has a toDataURL()-function to produce a Base64-encoded representation and use it for storage  -  the Audio-element doesn't seem to have anything like this.
    My last really "dirty" approach was trying to load "manually" Base64-encoded-MP3s with a combination of AJAX and PHP: A PHP-script outputs a Base64-representation of a MP3-file and is loaded by AJAX, so I could store the Base64-representation e.g. as Local Storage or in Web Database:
    <?php
    $infile = 'song01.mp3';
    $contents = file_get_contents($infile);
    $base64 = base64_encode($contents);
    $audio = 'data:audio/mp3;base64,'.$base64.'';
    echo $audio;
    ?>
    I tried using the resulting AJAX responseText as the source-argument in an audio-source-tag. Suprise: It doesn't work in Safari on my iPad 2, the player just fails to load the "file", although this works fine in Chrome on Windows. Possibly a size limitation for Base64-URIs on Safari / iOS.
    And again: Even if this was working in iOS/Safari I don't know of a way to determine a real progress from an AJAX-query...
    The last thing I could think of is not replacing the audio- or source-tags when loading a song but leaving them in the DOM-structure, check if it's already there when a song is loaded and just add a new audio-tag if a song hasn't been loaded yet.
    This solution would be my last resort: I'd have to rewrite nearly the whole application to completely operate on JavaScript / AJAX to stay on one site in the browser - else the "cached" audio data would be lost again when changing to another site in Safari.
    Furthermore I think there'll be a small cache limit somewhere when doing this?
    Any ideas?

  • My iPhone 4 (GSM) is terrible to use after iOS 7 update?

    I was so excited for iOS 7 ... In fact, I checked for an available update every other second. After getting said update my phone was amazing at first (IT FELT LIKE A NEW PHONE)!
    -Now I've started to notice that my keyboard will simply stop working leaving me not even wanting to text anymore.
    -My favorite apps (Even those "optimized" for iOS 7 force close all the time).
    -I will be using my iPhone and even though the battery is completely full the Apple logo will pop up unexpectedly (Kinda like how it does when it's booting up) and won't turn back on for like 5 minutes.
    -Sometimes I'll lock my iPhone and the screen will refuse to turn on no matter what buttons I press so I'll have to put it in recovery mode which for some reason gets it to turn back on.
    -My Facetime calls will end unexpectedly.
    -My phone got super hot on iOS 6 (and now it gets even hotter on iOS 7) even when I'm not using it.
    -Do not disturb will be DISABLED and my volume will be up all the way.. But I still won't hear that I am getting a call or message. Push notifications are enabled so I'm stumped on that one.
    -My reception will legit go away and not come back forever even though I usually have all 5 bars on iOS 6.
    -While dialing a call the other person will sound fine but they always tell me that I'm echoing and stuff.
    -All of my favorite apps take 5 times longer to start up.. But don't waste any time to force close when they finally do start.
    -My WiFi will disconnect all the time and makes me use A LOT of 3G data
    -Even when I am on 3G knowingly my iPhone uses 10 times more data with regular everyday use. Browsing Facebook for 5 minutes uses just over half a gigabyte.
    -Most of the songs in my music library have no album artwork at all... No matter how many times I try syncing it to iTunes.
    -I will screenshot stuff and it won't save to camera roll until I screenshot it like seven times.
    -My phone tells me I am in different countries sometimes??
    -My battery lasts approximately 45 minutes.
    Look.. I know my phone is old and all that other stuff. But I'm just a teen and I worked hard to purchase this phone. I just want it to work and I can't afford to buy a newer 4s/5/5c/or 5s. I just don't have that kind of money. Overall the design is amazing and I really like it (I would just really appreciate some bugfixes or something).
    Thanks in advance

    I have factory reset my phone twice.. I have disabled iCloud settings.. I looked up possible downgrading options.. which isn't possible. I feel as if my iPhone 4 was offered the update so I was forced to get another phone

  • Phone Shuts Down Repeatedly & Restarts & Won't Charge Since IOS 8 Upgrade

    Jesus please take the wheel. After reading about all the IOS 8 problems in the past few weeks I thought everyone was nuts until two days ago. My iphone 5 has never been mistreated, dropped, slung across a room, or undergone anything approaching torture. It has NEVER EVER EVER given me ANY problems. All of my apps worked seamlessly, and I never had any issues with the functionality of the phone. And, like the gung-ho Apple product lover that I am, I swiftly upgraded to IOS 8 hoping that things would only get better. BUT in the past two days, without treating my phone any different, it has begun to malfunction. It shut down by itself TWICE in a span of ten minutes two days ago. And each time I turned it back on, it acted as though I asked it to restart. It did the same thing yesterday, EVEN AFTER RESTORING IT TO FACTORY SETTINGS. On top of that, it refused to charge, although it was showing up on my macbook and the little lighting bolt appeared in the upper right hand corner of the phone.
    I am no conspiracy theorist by ANY measure, but I can't help but attribute these problems to the new OS. How do I get help for this? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Have you resolved it? HELP.  Apple certainly won't lose my business and I certainly can't tell other people what to do, but I must echo other people's caution about downlaoding IOS 8. If you have not done so yet, I strongly encourage you to hold off until Apple works out the kinks in this OS.

    Hi sejrphd,
    As someone who depends on my iPhone for communications and computation, I know how difficult it must be to have difficulties such as you describe with your iPhone. Let's see if we can get you back up and running.
    If your iPhone powers off unexpectedly, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    In particular this section -
    Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
    Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    After at least 30 minutes, if:
    The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
    The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
    Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
    If the display turns on, go to step 4.
    If the display remains black, go to next step.
    Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • IOS app starts with black screen when compiled via ADT (Flex 4.6, AIR3.7)

    I was using Flex 4.6 with AIR 3.1 in Flash Builder 4.6 on Windows 7. I used two build methods: 1) "Export Release Build" in Flash Builder during development and 2) the ADT toolchain on my build server.
    For the ADT method I would create AIR intermediate files using:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\FlashBuilderC.exe" --launcher.suppressErrors -noSplash -application org.eclipse.ant.core.antRunner -data [PATH_TO_SOURCE] -file [PATH_TO_BUILD_XML] [PROJECT_NAME]
    Where my build.xml looks like:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <project default="main">
        <target name="main">
            <fb.exportReleaseBuild project="[PROJECT_NAME]" basefilename="[BASE_FILE_NAME]" verbose="true" destdir="bin-release" />
        </target>
    </project>
    From these intermediate AIR files I would create my APK and IPA files using ADT like so (shown for iOS):
    echo [CERTIFICATE_PASSWORD]|"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\sdks\4.6.0\bin\adt" -package -target ipa-test -provisioning-profile [PATH_TO_MOBILE_PROVISIONING_FILE] -storetype PKCS12 -keystore [PATH_TO_DEV_CERTIFICATE] [OUTPUT_PATH] [PATH_TO_IOS_AIRI]
    This procedure produced working iOS and Android apps as well.
    I decided to upgrade AIR to version 3.7. I used the overlay proceedure described here (http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/how-overlay-air-sdk-flex-sdk.html). I also updated the namespace in my project to reflect the new AIR version. Using "Export Release Build" in Flash Builder produces working copies of both the iOS and Android apps. Furthermore, the secondary method (used on my build server), produces both APK and IPA files without error. The APK works just fine but the IPA does not. When running the app on an Apple device, it starts up with a black screen and stays this way.
    To summarize:
    Flex 4.6, AIR 3.1: "Export Release Build" and ADT tool chain produce working APK and IPA files.
    Flex 4.6, AIR 3.7 using overlay procedure: "Export Release Build" produces working APK and IPA files, ADT tool chain produces working APK file but IPA file loads black screen on Apple devices.
    More notes:
    I had made a back up of the "4.6.0" directory that holds the Flex and AIR SDK files. If I replace the overlayed Flex 4.6.0 SDK directory with the original (which contains AIR 3.1) and revert the namespace back to 3.1 in my project, everything goes back to normal and I get working apps via both methods described above.
    Edit: I also should note that I've tried many other combinations of Flex and AIR (Flex 4.9.1 from Apache and AIR 3.5/3.6), which all produce the same issue. It seems that the overlay procedure breaks something for ADT with iOS specifically...
    Edit 2: I also noticed that the IPA files output by methods 1 and 2 are slightly different. Opening these with 7-Zip I see that most of the files are the same, but some differ slightly in size (this was due to 'ipa-test' vs 'ipa-ad-hoc'). The odd thing is that in the IPA file that does not work (produced via the ADT method), the SWF file is named "swf3465180827438224920.tmp" while the SWF in the IPA that was created using "Export Release Build is named "[PROJECT_NAME].swf". It almost appears as though ADT fails to rename the temporary SWF file. I also realized that the "Export Release Build" method likely used '-target ipa-ad-hoc', so I tried this in the ADT method with the same result.
    Any thoughts?

    Hello Nimit,
    Thank you for your response. I have tried AIR 3.8 Beta and this did not correct the problem. I downloaded the AIR 3.7 SDK from http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/download/latest/AdobeAIRSDK.zip . I have also tried with the new compiler as well, with the same result.
    To keep things simple, I've created a very lightweight example with which I see the issue. I've also been able to remove the Flash Builder step and reproduce the problem with mxmlc and adt only. Since the files are simple, I will just post them here.

    > adt -package -target ipa-test -provisioning-profile [PROVISIONING_FILE] -storetype pkcs12 -keystore [CERTIFICATE] TestApp.ipa TestApp.airi
    If you unpack the working IPA (from method 1) you will see the file "TestApp.ipa\Payload\TestApp.app\TestApp.swf". However, if you likewise inspect the IPA created via the AIR intermediate method (method 2), you will see the file "TestApp.ipa\Payload\TestApp.app\swf1970057761096800694.tmp" and there will be no "TestApp.swf". In both IPA files, if we inspect "TestApp.ipa\Payload\TestApp.app\Info.plist", we see the snippet:
            <key>CTInitialWindowTitle</key>
            <string>TestApp</string>
            <key>CTInitialWindowContent</key>
            <string>TestApp.swf</string>
            <key>CTMaxSWFMajorVersion</key>
            <string>20</string>
            <key>CFBundleSupportedPlatforms</key>
    So I suspect "TestApp.ipa\Payload\TestApp.app\swf1970057761096800694.tmp" is incorrectly named, cannot be found at runtime and thus displays a black screen.
    This problem is observed when using AIR 3.7. It is not observed when using AIR 3.1.

  • Adobe Air 3.0 iOS streaming H264/Speex over RTMP -- No Video

    Problem:
    H264/Speex RTMP stream from Flash Media Server doesn't display video.  Audio plays fine.
    Conditions:
    Adobe Air 3.0
    iOS device (iPad 2, iOS4.3)
    App settings:
    <renderMode>direct</renderMode>
    Flash Builder 4.5.1 compiler settings:
    -swf-version=13
    -target-player=11.0.0
    I have tried using both stageVideo and the regular Video object to render an H264 signal streaming from Flash Media Server over rtmp, but with no luck.  I can hear the audio, but the video is never rendered.
    I CAN see H263 video when streamed over RTMP using this setup (with just the Video object).
    I can also stream a locally stored mp4 (H264/AAC) file over rtmp from the iOS device and play it locally just fine (using a stageVideo object).
    I have attempted this with both stageVideo (which works fine when streaming an mp4 file from the iOS device) and with the regular Video object (the regular Video object handles H263 just fine streaming down from FMS over rtmp).  I've also played around with backgroundAlpha = "0" for this case, all with no luck.
    I've followed all the online instructions and tutorials to get this working for the past week, but have not had any luck.  I'm happy to post more code, but this approach is fairly straight forward and has been described multiple times around these forums and in the adobe blog posts.  It goes like this:
         - instantiate NetConnection (_nc) to FMS and wait for successful connection:
                   _ns = new NetConnection();
                   _nc.connect(serverAddress);
         - instantiate NetStream (_ns) and connect using NetConnection:
                   _ns = new NetStream(_nc);
         - setup listener for StageVideoAvailabilityEvent; if stageVideo becomes available, attach _ns:
                  _stageVideo = stage.stageVideos[0];
                  _stageVideo = _stageVideo.attachNetStream(_ns);
         - if stageVideo ISN'T available, fall back to Video object:
                   _video = new Video();
                   _video.attachNetStream(_ns);
                   stage.addChild(_video);
         - play netStream app:
                   _ns.play(appName);
    My renderMode is set correctly ("direct"), and from what I can tell, this isn't a backgroundAlpha issue.
    I have seen this problem described elsewhere on this forums and on the net.
    I'd like to know from Adobe: are there any compatibility issues with this approach?  There doesn't seem to be any type of compatibility chart listing which video codecs and transport protocols are available on the different mobile platforms.  Since mobile deployment is so heaviliy fragmented, a descriptive chart or table like this would be helpful for those of us developing -- at least for the main mobile platforms predominantly in use.

    Thanks in advance!

    I do hope someone from Adobe is "hearing" this, guys. The lack of RTMP-based H.264 video on the Air for iOS is a major problem, indeed.
    As Fabio Sonnati mentioned in http://sonnati.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/air-2-6-for-ios-and-video-play back/, AIR for iOS does support HTTP streaming (via HLS) of h.264 videos. However, when streaming via RTMP, AIR for iOS only supports VP6 and Spark – a couple of old, retired codecs.
    While HTTP streaming (HLS) seems to be a good option for those who simply want to “play a video” in iOS, I do believe it has some severe limitations, especially for live-communications. I’d like to share some of these thoughts with you.
    1. HLS has ridiculously high latency for live videos (around 40 seconds), when compared to RTMP. Although this may not be a problem for on-demand videos, it sure is a great problem for anyone doing serious live-communications applications (such as webconferencing, live webcasting with audience interaction or Skype-like video chats), which require near-zero latency.
    2. Perhaps someone can correct me on this (hopefully!), but as far as I know, HTTP streaming will not allow cuepoints to be read from videos. This is particularly painful for anyone doing video-triggered actions, such as slide changes (for webinar apps), subtitling or live closed captioning, etc. I read somewhere that OSMF player allows cuepoints (or "temporal metadata". See http://blogs.adobe.com/osmf/2009/11/cue_point_support_in_osmf.html), but I haven't been able to test it myself.
    3. Although HLS it is quite compatible with firewalls (since it flows through port 80), RTMP with tunnelling also flows through port 80 or 443, which adds great compatibility, even on very restricted networks. Our experience with very large clients proves that, hands down.
    In other words, HTTP/HLS streaming is Ok. But it simply does *not* fit into every shoe that RTMP does. We do believe that RTMP remains as our best option for live streaming or serious streaming-oriented *apps* (in which things more complex than “mere video playing in a window” actually happen).
    That all said, I do believe we should let Adobe know about this need. The fact that RTMP streaming in AIR for iOS is limited to VP6 and Spark, which are two “dead” codecs, still puts us, Air developers, in a very fragile position in terms of what we can accomplish with video in iOS.
    I’m sure some of you cheered when you heard about Flash Player 11 having h.264 video encoding. This, (plus the echo cancellation feature that came in 10.3) opened great doors for great Unified-Communication applications to be developed for Flash/Air. Now, it’s undeniable that clients want those applications running on tablets, especially the iPad.
    Not being able to use h.264 via RTMP on iOS is certainly a huge step backwards. Anyone shares this same opinion? What do you guys believe to be the best option to let Adobe really know about this need? Is this limitation a simple lack-of-a-feature (which can be fixed by Adobe) or is this some imposed thing by Apple?
    Just one final note: Air for Android does *not* have the same limitation. It does allow RTMP streaming of h.264.
    Thanks for your attention,
    Helder Conde

  • AirPrint not working with iOS 5 ...

    Prior to upgrading my iPhones and iPads to iOS5 I was able to wirelessly print to my printer which is attached to my iMac (OSX 10.6.8).  A while back, someone on this discussion board posted the following script to run on the iMac to enable AirPrint.  After upgrading to iOS 5 I can no longer print this way.  I even made certain to re-apply the script (because I know that anytime a new OSX is installed on the iMac that it gest reset).
    When I select an item to print, the "Select Printer" option from the printer options screen does not find any AirPrint printers.
    Here is the thing. We have 2 iPads, on ine I upgraded to iOS5 and can not print.
    On the other iPad I have not upgraded and I am still able to print.
    So, that tells me it is Not the script.  It is Not the iMac.  It IS the iOS5 install.
    launch AppleScript editor and cut, paste and run the following 2 lines:
    do shell script "echo '# enable AirPrint
    image/urf urf (0,UNIRAST<00>)' > /usr/share/cups/mime/airprint.types" with administrator privileges
    So, can anyone tell me if there is a newer script for iOS5 or some other way to make this work.
    Thanks,
    Brad.

    This happened to me as well.  Printing to a USB attached and shared HP Deskjet 6940 printer worked just fine before update to iOS 5.1 even though this printer is not listed as AirPrint compatible by HP.
    This is VERY fishy.  Why would something work just fine and then stop after an "update".
    I smell collusion between HP and Apple!
    Do I now have to go a buy an "approved" AirPrint compatible printer?

  • Iphone 6 speaker having echoes! And camera keep freezing. Help!

    My one month old iPhone 6 having some problem. First the camera tends to lag or sometimes blackout when I want to take photo. Secondly, the speaker has echoes. Please assist. Am I eligible to exchange for a new unit?

    Are you using a case around the phone that covers the microphones? If yes, take it off and try again. Same for protective film on the screen of the phone.
    As for the camera issue, did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
    If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
