Edge 530 Windows 8 Bios update

From what I understand a bios update is needed on the edge 530 to allow windows 8 to correctly identify USB 3.0 devices.
Is there an ETA on this update or any other workaround?
I have the USB 3.0 Display link and its currently unuseable!!

welcome to the community.
re: ETA for a full compliment of Win8 drivers, there have been no announcements. so... it's probably safe to assume that we'll see things become available after the OS is avaiable at retail, with more wide support through the months following.
your Edge 530 is on the current upgrade-capable list: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074688 so you should be in pretty good shape as the drivers become available.
regards.

  • P35 platinum combo will not boot windows after bios update via Live Update

    Hi,
I had everything running on windows 7 fine until 2 days ago.  I installed Live Update from MSI website.  I was about to install driver updates for my motherboard, but the bios update went instead.  my pc tried to restart after the bios update installed, but it failed.  would not post and would only see black screen.
then i removed one of my memory sticks.  it would post, but then windows would not start up.  it would get stuck at windows loading screen.  i tried to reformat with my windows cd.  but during install it would blue screen of death me.  i tried multiple times and it would always blue screen of death with different errors.  the last one i remember was a message saying i should off turn shadowing and caching.
this all started happening after i attempted bios update via Live Update.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Virus 'flagged' file in Windows 7 Bios Update...HELP !!

I just finished updating some Windows 7 Bios files....one of the files: C:\PROGRAM FILES\LENOVO\SYSTEM UPDATE\UNCSERVER.EXE" was flagged as Malware by my AVG Virus program and I put it in the Virus Vault.
Then the installation of that update showed it couldn't find that flagged file and so cancelled that update.
I continued on with the other updates and installed them, BUT I wonder if that file is really Malware and whether to restore it and try that update again.
I don't want to infect my computer with a virus, but I wonder if a Windows Update would contain a contaminated file...
    HELP !!!

    Hello,
You did not say what version of the signature database is being used by your antivirus software, or the name of the threat it detected, so it is difficult to tell for certain, but I uploaded the UNCSERVER.EXE file from my ThinkPad W510 to VirusTotal, a multi-engine virus scanning service, and it reported the file as being clean.  Report here.
I suspect it is a false positive alarm, but you should check with your antivirus vendor's own technical support department to confirm.

  • Windows 7 - BIOS update question - Satellite A350-13A

    Hi,
I have the Toshiba A350-13A for Poland.
It came with Vista 32 bit system. I would like to install there Windows 7 64 bit.
So I have a question for BIOS update.
In my toshiba model driver section for WIN7 there is only a 32 bit BIOS for OS independent, but in the Vista section there is a 64 bit BIOS.
So shall I stay with the 32 bit BIOS or update to Vista 64 bit BIOS?
    best regards.

    Hi
Do you have any performance or notebook issues using the 32bit BIOS?
If everything is working properly then leave the 32bit BIOS on your notebook.
I would recommend updating the BIOS only if some serious problems would appear
    Cheers

  • Sugestion: Make WIndows 8 bios updates show up in the Windows 7 page.

I have a sugestion to  HP and not sure where to put it so i will put it here.
This issue really needs to be made more aware because a lot of people including myself had the problem and did not know what to do.
Apparently there is a known issue with some HP computers (around those from 2012 or so) that technically has the capiblity to have a hardware upgrade such as a new graphics card installed (mostly for the elite set of PCs)  but that the computer itself would lock the user out of the upgrade
The issue seems to be that if you are using an older bios you likely will not be able to install the new hardware
For those who have windows 7 you may wish to check on your product page under windows 8 to see if there is a bios update.  Because it is not listed under windows 7 because "technically" the bios update is mainly for windows 8 BUT it seems to fix the critical issue preventing the new hardwear from working.
so HP may need to put that bios update on the windows 7 secton of the product page drivers and just add a footnote "While this bios update is mainly for windows 8 it apparently can fix some "hardware lockout issue" for new hardware on windows 7 too." :-)

Perhaps HP didn't do regression testing with the version 8 BIOS and Windows 7 hence the reason why it's not posted under Windows 7.  Many of the new functions with a version 8 BIOS are only supported under Windows 8.  However, your point is well taken.

  • E540 Windows Warning - BIOS Update required

    Hi
Event logs on Thinkpad E540 with latest 1.61 BIOS shows this in the event log multiple times (for each core):
Collaborative processor power controls on processor 0 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
Would be good to get a BIOS that doesn't log this and enables Collaborative processor power controls.

  • Windows 10 Bios update

No need to update the bios, besides it is very risky.

  • HP Phoenix h9-1110t Windows 8 bios update available but where?

    Per HP links.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-Software-Recovery/HP-PCs-Basic-Input-Output-S...
    https://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04393276
According to those 2 links. A update is available for my PC. But, it is not on the product page for my PC. Doing some google work. I came across the following 2 HP links.
    ftp://h18013.www1.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68501-69000/sp68932.html
    http://www.mmnt.net/db/0/11/g6u0081c.atlanta.hp.com/ftp1/pub/softpaq/sp68501-69000/
Second link has the actual bios. But, its questionable for me as this is NOT on the support page for my PC. Even though the softpaq number matches the table with the second HP link in my post. I will even post a picture for reference. This is a critical update as I am running Windows 8.1 and I want to get this installed. Since it will also allow me to finally upgrade to a newer series of a video card.
Big_Dave is also trying to assist in this and has reached out to HP. Who ever gets the news first. Please post here. Greatly appreciated and other users will also be armed with this information.

  • I can't activate windows 8.1 pre-installed on my Toshiba E45-B4200 after BIOS Update

I bought Toshiba laptop Model E45-B4200, at first time I could activate windows 8.1 like a charm.
Few months later Windows 8.1 has crashed, so I did clean install of pre-installed windows, no problem so far. Toshiba Application installer app has downloaded BIOS update, so I ran it.
I tried to activate windows after BIOS update, but it didn`t work. No error message, but Change PC settings window just got minimized every time that I tried to click on Activate Windows option. I thought that I did some mistake, so I repeated windows reinstallation, and same problem occurred again.
Now I can`t update Windows, Office 2013, and so on.
I`ve tried SLUI 4 command to force activation by phone, but it didn`t work as well.
I read on MS blogs that windows 8.1 stores product key on MSDM table, windows should be activated normally. Now I got no options now, can you help me?

It shouldn't need to be activated it. Everything should be automatic. Because it's asking you, that's already indicative of a problem. You might want to call customer support.

  • Equium A110-276 BIOS update for 32-bit Windows 7

Hello all, I'd like to update the BIOS on my Equium A110-276 and the two choices are 'OS Independent' and 'Windows Vista 32 Bit'. I have Windows 7 32-bit on this laptop. If I choose 'OS Independent' it warns me 'This Bios is NOT compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!' and if I choose 'Windows Vista 32 Bit' it reads 'This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!'
The exclamation marks are from Toshiba, not me ;)
So am I stuffed and need to stay with my current BIOS, or can I use the Windows Vista BIOS update?
Thanks to all who can help!

    Hi Paolo30
I've been having some problems with the fan, and before I bring it in for repair I wanted to try all options. It appears to be seated/connected fine, the area around it is clean, I've done all of the fan-related troubleshooting I can except the last option which is to re-flash the BIOS which a number of people have had success with (with regards to the fan).
The original OS is Windows XP so I'd have to recover it back to XP and then re-update to Windows 7 and I'd rather have surgery than do that again! If it's not in the cards then it's a trip to the repair shop, I reckon. Thanks for responding!

  • BIOS Update Bootable or Update Utility

    Hi,
I am in the process of installing all updates on my new W520.  Regarding the BIOS, I noticed there are two options as following:
BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7
BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7
Is it preferable to use one over the other?  What is the reason why Lenovo offers this choice?
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can tell you that with previous models the bios update utility wouldn't run under a 64bit windows version so their solution was a bootable dos type disc that would do the flash, however I don't (personally) think it was designed well. The bootable disc will do the job just fine assuming there are no problems with the computer, but I had it destroy a computer because I hadn't realized that a used computer I picked up had a failing optical drive, so a few simple read errors on the disc and it flashed garbled data onto my bios chip and there is no easy way to recover.
Since your unit is new and in top condition, it shouldn't matter, and even if the bios flash did ruin your system board, it would be fixed under warranty, but if I was designing the bootable disc I would have it pause with a "do not continue if your system appears unstable", instead of having it continue no matter what state the system is in.
The update utility is my method of choice now, but keep in mind that you do need a stable operating system. a random bluescreen crash in the middle of a flash and you could end up with an unusable system.

  • Bios Update delay

Hello people! I wanted to upgrade my Windows XP to Windows Vista and so after re-installing the computer, I pressed to do the bios update- to go on and do the upgrade to Vista. However, I noticed that the clock has stopped- at 5:36pm- and that the update is still going on- now is 8:49pm ("Windows Based Bios Update Please wait... Update in progress... Warning!!! Do NOT power off your PC!")! If anyone can give me help, well, it would be appreciated. Also (and the update windows is still shown), I have this problem of high cpu usage- loud noise: every like half minute, this sound would go off- really annoying.

  • BIOS update for Equium A60-181

Hi, according to the toshiba website there's a new BIOS update for my laptop.
I was wondering is it worth the update unfortunately there's no information
supplied with regards to bug fixes or improvements ? Also should I use the
Windows update tool or use the bootable CD option it's just I don't feel safe
flashing under Windows XP unless this is a standard flawless procedure ?
    cheers,
    Richard S.

    Hi Richard
Richard do you have some problems with your unit? If everything works fine I do not see any reason for BIOS update.
If you think that BIOS update is necessary you can try Windows based Bios Update but please check first Toshiba BIOS-Update Description before proceeding.

  • Thinkcentre Edge 92z (AIO) - Dead after BIOS update

Today I started Lenovo System Update to check for new updates for my ThinkCentre Edge 92z (model 3396BSG). System Update found a BIOS update. I started System Update from my Win64 Pro System.
Initially the display was showing white characters on black background. After a while a new window appeared with yellow characters on black background.
No interaction was done by me.
Some minutes later the system turned off.
I turned the system on and - nothing. The system didn´t show any startup  messages, no splash screen - nothing. During "boot" (in fact no boot at all) I was not able to enter the BIOS - the systems seems to ignore any keyboard interactions.
To my opinion something during BIOS update killed my system.
I would appreciate any hints or comments.
    Thank you and regards, Ingolf.

The machine is running again - after replacement of the system board. Thank you to Lenovo support and the technican.
    Regards, Ingolf.
