Edit in Dreamweaver

Apologies if this appeared twice -- it never showed up in my
NG reader...
I have forgotten the backward contortion that needs to be
made in order to
place an Edit in Dreamweaver button on the IE7 interface. Can
someone point
me to the double-secret probation instructions that can make
that happen?
I'm at 8.0.2. Thx...

I figured it out (tested with CS3 on Vista Premium).
[DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU'RE COMFORTABLE EDITING THE WINDOWS
REGISTRY]
[REQUIRES ADMINISTRATOR ACCESS]
Open the registry.
(Back it up!!!)
Navigate to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\dreamweaver.exe\shell
Choose Edit->New->Key and type edit
With edit highlighted, choose Edit->New->Key and type
command
With command selected, you should see (Default) on the right
side.
Copy the path from the shell\open\(Default) value and paste
it into the
shell\edit\(Default) value
Open IE7.
Select Tools->Internet Options and click on the Programs
tab.
You should now be able to select DW for the HTML editor.

    By Template, are you looking for DW Template.dwt files?

    For starter pages in DW, go to File > New > Blank page > HTML.
    Select a layout from the 3rd panel and hit Create button.
    Or, look at Project Seven's commercial CSS Layouts and Page packs (not free, but well worth the investment if you want a good final product).

    Hi
    When I edit a Flash CS3 document from Dreamweaver CS 3 on a

    OK, I have wiped the larger drive and done a complete reinstall of OSX (and updates) and reinstalled all applications on it, so I now have:
    Main Drive (OS and apps.): 465GB, with 430GB of free space
    2nd Drive (scratch disk): 149GB, with 66GB of free space
    RAM (I've added 2 more GBs): 5GB
    But the problem with Flash pausing when I go back to it from another application is exactly as it was before I upgraded anything.
    Is it possible this is a Finder problem? - as I also have a problem bringing up Finder by clicking on the desktop background if I am in another application - it just won't work, and I am forced to select Finder from the dock.
    Thanks.

    I've never heard of Adobe offering a "free educational version" of DW.
    They do offer a free 30 day trial or you can purchase a reduced price education subscription (of the full CC suite of programs) if you qualify.

  • Fireworks edit in Dreamweaver pouting and refusing to update.

    Again, I'm new to Fireworks...let me know if I'm totally off
    base here. Before I start, I'm using Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver
    CS3 as part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium. I use an iMac
    running OS 10.5.2, Leopard.
    I've just finished designing a new Fireworks navigation bar
    for my company's website. The HTML exports and integrates into the
    existing pages just fine (so far.) I'm in the process of testing
    each page with the new Fireworks HTML to see if anything goes nuts
    before I take it live.
    Here's where I might be delusional. I insert the HTML into a
    page, then use the "edit in Fireworks" option in DW to change the
    default state of one button using the "show in 'down' state on
    load" option (depending on which page is currently up.) I've
    noticed that although I can use the "edit in Fireworks" option to
    do other things (minor spacing issues for example) with marginal
    success...FW is not reflecting the "down state" changes in DW at
    all. I swear I've done this before and it's worked, though!
    When I'm in the midst of making these changes and "preview"
    in FW, everything works as it should. However, as soon as I hit
    "done", no updates are reflected in the DW page...nor are they
    saved in the original FW HTML when I go back and check.
    If I'm completely wrong, what would be the best way to
    reflect a "down state on load" button for each page of the website?
    Do I need to make the changes, re-save the files, and re-export
    them?
    If it helps, the test index page is:
    http://www.thdelectronics.com/index_testbar.html
    It shows "home" in the down state. But when I load the HTML
    on the products pages and try to change the down state button to
    "products"...it doesn't work.
    Thanks,
    ~G~

    Hello
    I just worked through this exact same issue today so I'm glad
    to help. The easy answer is that when you are exporting the html to
    Dreamweaver you need to check 'Multiple Nav Bar HTML Pages' in the
    'Document Specific' tab (under the options button in my Fireworks
    MX).
    As far as I can tell, you end up with a nav bar for each of
    your links and then have to import those each to your pages which
    doesn't help when using templates. I'm hoping I can find a
    different answer to that one.
    Here is a link to the whitepaper...

    I'm contemplating purchasing the CC subscription for Dreamweaver and some other products and need to know the backwards compatibility.  For instance can the Dreamweaver CC files be read and edited in older versions of Dreamweaver such as CS5?  I'd also like to know if the Photoshop CC files will be able to be edited in older versions of PS such as CS5.  And is there a Bridge version in CC?

  • Disable Template Comments While Editing in Dreamweaver

    We have pages set up using InstanceBeginEditable comments to
    define editable regions. However, we are not using templates.
    Naturally, when I open these files in Dreamweaver I cannot edit the
    areas outside the editable comments - this is expected. I'm
    wondering if there's a way to disable this in Dreamweaver so I can
    edit all regions of the page. As I said earlier, we are only using
    the InstanceBeginEditable tags to lock down areas for Contribute
    users.

    > I'm wondering if there's a way to disable this in
    Dreamweaver
    Not as long as DW thinks you are editing an HTML page.
    However, you can
    open one of the pages, copy all, create a new TEXT page,
    paste in, and edit
    away. This is a pretty awkward way to work, though.

  • Question about editing a Dreamweaver template

    I used a #2 template from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dreamweaver_custom_templates.html
    and have muddled through editing it and have done "ok" by my standards.
    One unresolved issue I have is how to put something "UNDER" my left navigation bar.
    If you look at my site http://mpalitigation.com/index.html  you will see a paypal button waaaay down on the left side,  I was hoping
    to put that button under the navigation links but not right with them.  I tried doing a crash course on float, clear, etc..but
    the best I could do was clear after the navigation bar float left but then the content in the middle is pushed down below the end of the navigation bar.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    The related CSS code is
    .leftnavigation {
        width: 192px;
        margin: 70px 0px 0px 0px;
        padding-left: 8px;
        float: left;
        list-style-type: none;
    .leftnavigation a{
        margin-left: 0px;
        width: 156px;
        padding-left: 15px;
        padding-top: 5px;
        padding-right: 20px;
        padding-bottom: 5px;
        float: left;
        color: #364957;
        font-size: 10px;
        font-weight: bold;
        font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
        text-decoration: none;
        background-image: url(images/nav_normal.jpg);
        background-repeat: repeat-x;
        background-position: 0px 0px;
        border-bottom: 1px solid #999;
    .leftnavigation a:visited{
        color: #364957;
    .leftnavigation a:hover{
        color: #ffffff;
        background-image: url(images/nav_down.jpg);

    The page you have linked is not a child page of a DW template.

  • Applying CSS while editing in Dreamweaver tips?

    I have an annoying issue in Dreamweaver CS3 that I was hoping
    I could
    get some help on.
    I have a site I'm working on. The file structure is:
    W:/site/
    -- contains page.php which is the bare frame for all the
    pages. The
    styles.css link and all head info, etc. is in this page.
    W:/site/includes/
    -- contains styles.css which has all the styles
    W:/site/data/
    -- contains all the actual data pages that get included into
    page.php
    via PHP (that it's PHP is not important)
    Now, when I'm working on, say, W:/site/data/123.php, the DW
    GUI has no
    idea what styles are available as all 123.php is is text with
    DIV id's
    and SPAN classes attributed. On the Web site, the contents of
    this
    page would simply get included into page.php.
    So the DW preview shows everything in default appearance.
    If I link the styles.css into the file, sure I edit it and
    it'll let
    me use the styles in the GUI instead of my having to keep
    looking at
    the styles page and hand-typing in ...class="blah"....
    But the link will be put in as "../includes/styles.css" which
    works
    while I'm in DW, but doesn't while it's on the Web as...you
    get it,
    because 123.php doesn't technically exist when it's rendered
    to the
    browser...it's embeded in page.php so "../" becomes
    meaningless.
    Does this make sense?
    Bottom line: Is there some DW tip that will allow me to
    either make it
    recognize PHP includes so it logically knows where everything
    will be
    when it's rendered by the browser, or, universally apply a
    CSS page to
    everything I'm working on without having to worry about link
    paths
    that work fine locally but foobar on the remote?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Editing with Dreamweaver

    Is it possible to edit a file created in Dreamweaver so that
    changes can be tracked? It looks to me that you might have to use
    Incopy, so I've downloaded a trial version of that. But, if so, I
    can't figure out how to make DW and Incopy work together.

    Dreamweaver doesn't have a Track Changes feature like
    Microsoft Word. If
    you want to keep track of changes, you need to use a version
    control
    program. Dreamweaver CS4 supports Subversion:

  • Making Simple Edits Without Dreamweaver

    I am going to be away from the PC on which Dreamweaver is installed for several days, but I will need to made very simple edits to the text of our index page each day.  Is there an application with which I can safely do that?  I will have access to both a Macbook and a Windows 7 PC.  Our web site is hosted at Network Solutions and was created with Dreamweaver.

    You could try Panic Coda but it comes at a price (currently $75) and they also have an iPad App called Diet Coda.  That's $20.
    I've never used the latter but it might help you - er... if you have an iPad.

  • Editing existing Dreamweaver project?

    Hi all,
    Here's my situation: I have been working on a Dreamweaver
    website for a university project for a few weeks. Last week I had
    to email it to a group member to add some of his work on to it. He
    did his part but not all of it, so I sent him a list of things he
    had to do, and he has done none of them except correct the one
    spelling mistake! He sent it in to uni as the finished website, but
    IF I leave it as that, we will both fail the module.
    So obviously I need to edit it and put the changes in myself.
    I have got a copy of the website as a compressed .zip folder,
    and I have extracted the files. My question is how do I open all
    the files back up in Dreamweaver for re-editing?
    This is due in tomorrow so I am starting to panic!
    Thank you so much for any advice you can give me! It is much
    appreciated!

    Stick the files in a folder. Define a new site. Point at that
