Edit in Photoshop: automate over, sharpen & back.

I can send an image to Photoshop for editing and I can manually run an Action to Sharpen and Save.
Can all of this be combined?
If a Preset would send to Photoshop and run an Action automatically.

I don't know about the return bit, but if you create an action, convert to droplet, place it in the appropriate LR Export folder, then choose an Export template and modify it to include the droplet, it'll get sent to PS, action run, and file closed or not, depending on your action/droplet.

  • Renaming masters and then editing in photoshop, the name reverts back...

So, if do a batch rename on a bunch of raw files to example 1.NEF, then example 2.NEF and so on, I select apply to masters. It works fine, even if I export the masters, with the master name, it shows the new name. No problem.
However, if I right click in aperture and select edit in photoshop on one of the aforementioned masters, then the new PSD file that is created has the original name as it was from the camera! What the heck?
    Am I missing something?

Let's look at what's happening in the background: (tested or managed library)
In the Pictures folder is the Aperture library.
A typical master might be in a folder year>month>date>subfolder.
On sending to Photoshop a PSD (or tiff) is created and stored with the master.
    This is edited and returned.
In the Previews folder year>month>date>subfolder>subfolder is found a jpg with the original name (there are also thumbnails and faces files).
This seems to be picked up when the edited file comes back from Photoshop.
    More research neeeded!

  • How do I get an edited photoshop elements 11 picture back into iPhoto

@I have a Mac and my iPhoto pictures are edited in photoshop elements 11.  How do I save the picture so the edited picture goes back into iPhoto

You have two ways to use PSE with iphoto:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor for iphoto and send the photos from iphoto. Make your edits, then Save, not Save As without changing the name or format, and iphoto will remember your last edited version plus the original, but you'll have to lose the edits to see the original again. You will probably need to set the Editor preferences>Saving Files>On First Save to save over original to make this work, and it doesn't work with raw files.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the Editor, then make any changes you like to the name or format, and import the edited image back to iphoto as a new file.

  • From LR edit it Photoshop then saving back to LR

I have just updated LR5 to LR5.2 and updated my photoshop CC and now after i chose an image in LR and edit in Photoshop it wont let me justSave and close, it keeps going to Save as which seems to creat a new filename then when I close and go back to LR it cannot locate the file so I have to keep going to 'locate missing file' to find me photoshopped image. Why cant I just save and it will make a copy back in LR like it used to. I have looked over my LR preferences and Photoshop preferences and i cant see what to fix.

Re-installing Illustrator seemed to work, even though it was fully up to date and now technically it's not, it works better now. I guess I'll be pausing the "updates" from now on.
    Thanks!

  • Photoshop (cc) crop tool overly sharpens image after crop??

I have just noticed something really interesting and quite annoying about the photoshop cc crop tool.
It seems to slightly over sharpen an image after cropping. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable this?
I did the same crop with the same image in CS4 and looks fine. It's pretty nasty and makes images look very digital.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    Thanks, Dan

This might have to do with a change that was made to the default resizing technique in Photoshop between CS4 and now.
Try this: Open the Preferences dialog box, and in the General panel, change Image Interpolation to "Bicubic (best for smooth gradients)". Then run the same preset.
If that change makes a Crop tool resize work like it did in CS4, then the reason you saw a change is because in more recent versions of Photoshop the default technique for resampling was changed to "Bicubic Automatic" which tries to pick the right algorithm based on whether you're resampling up or down. It applies to resizing in general (for example, transformations), and you're seeing it because a crop resulted in resampling.
You can test various settings there to see which one is best for your work.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

I'm going to answer my own question:
    Easy steps
Locate the document in the Finder.
    Control/Right-Click on its icon.
    Select Show Package Contents
All images and embedded objects appear in ‘Data’ folder

  • Edit in Photoshop from Lightroom doesn't work; Automate Photomerge doesn't work

Edit in Photoshop from Lightroom doesn't work.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
Likewise,  I also can't automate>Photomerge ...  I pick all the images for the PHotomerge and hit "okay," but nothing happens.   Makes me think it's  Photoshop, not Lightroom, that is all wacky.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1  Lightroom is version 5.7  Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
I uninstalled Photoshop CS5 and reinstalled. No change.  I also tried dumping PS preferences, but that didn't affect a thing, either.

None of my "Edit In" worked with the pictures in Lightroom for a particular folder. I expanded the 2014 folder and found that two subfolders had a "?" in front of the 2014-07-04" and another. In other words, the folder was missing. After I found the missing folders using the Lightroom "Find Missing Folder" option, I was able to use the "Edit In" menu item. The 2014 folders weren't expanded at first, so I didn't see the ? marks in front of them. With the missing folders, Lightroom's "Edit In" option was basically telling me there was no picture to "Edit In." Howerver, I have Previews and Smart Previews made when I import picture files into Lightroom. So, the "pictures" showed in the slide strip on the bottom, and also in the display in "expand," but it was actually only showing the previews I had built, not the actual missing pictures in the missing folders. I had accidentally moved some directories using Windows Explorer, and I didn't realize my "happy fingers" moved them outside of Lightroom. Of course, Lightroom has no way of knowing I moved them, and just shows the "?" before the missing folder name. After expanding the root folder, then knew what to do. Fixed it easily. It was frustrating, and took about 20 minutes to see the problem. And that fixed the greyed-out "Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014, and all the other plug-ins were greyed out too.
    Hope this fixes your problem.

  • Edit in photoshop! My images aren't coming back to LR.

I am using LR 5.7 and CS6. When I use the "edit in photoshop" feature I am getting stuck because my images are not coming back to LR. They are being sent, as TIF's, to original folder where all the RAW files are. I have to go search for it and reimport it to LR. When you are processing weddings with hundreds of images this is NOT GOOD!!! Please help me!
I haven't changed a single setting or changed anything about my workflow so it literally just stopped working one day!!

I am working with a friend and he is suspecting that my Drobo, which is where I have my working library and catalog might be the problem. I had an issue with my Drobo a couple of weeks ago and thought it was unrelated....however, when I used my Lacie external backup drive I do not have this problem. Where is your working Library and Catalog?
My friend assured me we will get this fixed, he is very connected at Adobe.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • Lightroom doesn't stack photo with original back to lightroom when finished editing in photoshop

    Hi, hope someone can help.
My lightroom isn't broken, just an annoying thing is happening.
When I used to edit in photoshop, I would finish, photoshop would ask if I wanted to save changes, I would, then when I went back to lightroom the edited photo was right there next to the original raw (a tiff).
Now it doesn't show in lightroom.
I can get the tiff into lightroom by going to import, finding in the folder where the original raw file is and importing.
I have checked under settings, and the 'stack with original' is checked.
Just wondered if I had messed a setting somewhere.
    Thanks for you help
    Paul

    Thanks for your help 007.
I got it working, I reinstalled lightroom and it was still the same, no re-imports of edited photo's.
So here's what I did. I changed the file type when editing in photoshop to PSD (in preferences), and that worked. So I changed it back to TIFF and that works now too.
    Cheers
    Paul

    Hello jllew333
Check to make sure that Contacts is toggled on to sync by going to Settings > iCloud. Also go to iCloud.com to see if the contacts are showing up there to see if it syncing those contacts.

  • Edit in Photoshop Elements 10 question:

Ok, I'm using LR3 and Elements 10. I need to make sure I'm doing this right. Im in LR, and I want to send a DNG file over to Elements. I click Edit with Photoshop Elements, it sends the file over to Elements. I do my edits in Elements, then click Save. It does come back into LR, but its still the PSD and I want it to be in DNG?  Whats the best way to do this?
Is the only way it comes back is either a jpeg or psd? Or should I send files over in TIFF instead of PSD?  And which color space should I be in?
    Thanks folks.

    Mike,
DNGs actually make the most sense for Raw type images. For rendered images, they're just another container around your rendered image (TIFF, JPG, ...).
In order to pass an image from LR to PSE, LR will always create a rendered derivate file of the Raw/DNG photo (either TIFF or PSD), and pass the rendered image file it to PSE. Upon return from PSE, the rendered image is updated in LR, but stays in the same file format.
Of course you can convert the TIFF/PSD to DNG after return using LR's conversion (Library -> Convert Photo to DNG), but I cannot really see a benefit in doing that.
There is no option of passing a JPEG to PSE using "Edit in" and receiving the updated version automatically in LR. If you want to work with JPEGs (which I don't recommend because of compression issues), you'd have to save the image as JPEG in PSE and re-import it into LR manually.
    TIFF vs. PSD
These days (with TIFF supporting layers), there is no advantage of using PSD over TIFF anymore, and TIFF is a more common format than PSD. So I believe most people are using TIFFs to be passed to external applications.
    Color Space
You want to pass as big a color space to external editors as possible. This would be ProPhotoRGB for LR.
BUT, as quite a few functions are not available in PSE when using a 16-Bit image (i.e. cloning), I only pass 8-Bit TIFFs to PSE. Using ProPhotoRGB in a 8-Bit image - as far as I understand it - can have some disadvantages for image quality. For this reason I'm passing 8-Bit TIFFs in AdobeRGB (which is smaller than ProPhotoRGB, but bigger than sRGB) to PSE.

  • "Edit in Photoshop Elements" an Option in Development Module?

In viewing the tutorials for Lightroom (while considering whether to purchase it), I noted that there was integration with PS CS2 (and soon, CS3) and that it works like this: In the "Develop" module select "Photo," then "Edit in Photoshop CS2;" the key here is that once editing in CS2 is complete the saved edits are automatically incorporated back into the Lightroom Library. Because I don't have, and may never need, CS2 (or CS3) along with Lightroom (if I get it) I'd hope that the exact same integration is possible with Photoshop Elements 5. So my question is simple: If PSE 5 is installed along with Lightroom will "Develop" and "Photo" include an option for "Edit in Photoshop Elements 5" and have the same automatic integration with the Lightroom Library? (Or, if PSE 5 is not a listed option but is accessible through the "edit with other" option, will the saved file still be integrated automatically into the Lightroom Library?)
Thanks. (And I did search the forum for this answer; sorry if it was there and I missed it.)

I had a demo copy of elements on my system when I installed the beta version of LR. Along side that I had my old and trusty PS 7.LR found PS7
and I set up Elements as a second option for editing. I bought LR and installed it over the beta version. From then on I was given the option to import from Elements in the file menu.PS7 was greyed outwhen I checked to see if I could still edit under PS7.
The demo of Elements expired so I uninstalled it.LR still offers me the option to import from Elements. I have tried the registry hack and all looks well but it is still grayed out in LR and it still "sees" a program which is no longer on my system. I have had a good look around the system including the registry for remnants of Elements that might still be around but cant see any.
Anyway it seems to me that LR can find Elements if it wants to even if it isnt't there and as I have said elsewhere on this forum, why do we have to hack the registry to get some parts this program to work? Adobe need to sort this and all the other bugs out. They owe it to all of us who have paid good money to them for what seems to be a poorly finished product.
