Edit waveform channels independently

How do you edit channels independently in the waveform editor? I have an audio clip where the left channel is slightly out-of-sync with the right. I need to trim the right channel without affecting the left in order to re-sync them (or slip it down the timeline), but I can't seem to figure out how to do this...
Does anyone know how to unlock tracks from each other?

Couldn't readily see a way to do this.
However I offer you this workaround.
1. Take the stereo clip in your multitrack project and copy it to another track in sync with the first one
2. Make each clip into an Independent Audio File Project. (Clip menu or contextual menu)
3. Select one of these new clips in the timeline, using the contextual menu select the first item *Channel Select >Mono>L*
4. Repeat for the second clip choosing *Channel Select>Mono>R*
You should now have 2 mono clips in your multitrack project. One L and one R and you can slip slide and trim them as necessary.

  • N Channel independent configuration with DAQmx

    For an application, where I need to give the user, the options of configuring 8 analog channels independently, what would be the best way to go ? ( He needs to set the min, max values, samples and acquistion type - SE, Diff etc )
    Use 8 sets of "DAQmx CreateChannel( AI_Voltage_Basic)+ DAQmx Start Task + DAQmx Read VIs" or is there a VI which does this configuration as a single sub-VI ? I have searched enough to find one such.
    Any ideas that can provide a compact solution would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Dear Sean,
    Thanks.
    I guess I got your point. Let me repeat the steps - just to make sure:
    1. In the example sent by you, create the required properties for all 8 channels using "add element".
    2. Give a descriptive name for each channel.
    3. Next click on each node and select "Create Control". This will provide the required user control on the panel.
    4. Group all properties for each channel ( min, max,type,etc) properly and lay them out neatly.
    5. Finally pass the duplicate reference out of this synthesised proprty node to a DAQmx Read VI.
    Is that right ?
    Now I think I sort of realise the power of DAQmx VIs.

  • FormulaCalc with Waveform Channels

    I'm using DIADEM 10.0 and observe the following problem:
    Calling "FormulaCalc" like this in a script:
    R1=<Some constant != 0>
    Call FormulaCalc("Ch('Group/NewChannel):= Ch('Group/WaveformChannel1')-Ch(''Group/WaveformChannel2')/R1")
    with "WaveformChannel1" and "WaveformChannel2" being waveform-channels, I expect "NewChannel" to be a waveform-channel, too.
    But in some cases the result channel is returned as numeric channel, in some as waveform-channel.
    Both input-channels have the same "waveform x-offset" (e.g. -0.0169000000000023) and  nearly the same "waveform x-step width"
    (e.g. 5.00000000000153E-06 and 4.99999999999996E-06 with the difference resulting from roundoff errors).
    Is someone able to explain, what the criteria are to get a waveform channel as result of the calculation?
    Any help is welcome!
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    Let me add one comment to Brad's explanation:
    You can test the "equality" of two floating point numbers in the following way:
    Call FormulaCalc("B1 := 5.00000000000153E-06 = 4.99999999999996E-06")
    Call MsgBox(B1) ' false
    Call FormulaCalc("B1 := 5.000000000000153E-06 = 4.99999999999996E-06")
    Call MsgBox(B1) ' true
    ' DIAdem 10.1 or higher
    If ProgramRevision >= 1010 Then
      Call MsgBox(ValEqual(5.00000000000153E-06, 4.99999999999996E-06)) ' false
      Call MsgBox(ValEqual(5.000000000000153E-06, 4.99999999999996E-06)) ' true
    End If
    You will see that DIAdem uses approx. 13 significant figures for the comparism.

  • Editing Waveforms in Garageband edit

    I use Garageband, (iMac, Mavericks 10.9), quite a lot to make simple recordings of Guitar, keyboard and voice.
    Quite often, I have to edit waveforms in the edit window, and I find the waveform too small to usefully edit. When I look at demo's of Garageband, I see waveforms that are, compared to mine, enormous. Am I missing something, either in producing or looking at these tracks? It doesn't seem to make much difference what the output volume of the wave is, or what 'magnification' I use in the edit window.
    Any thoughts, folks?

  • How to edit FAV channels??

    We just had to install the Motorola RNG200N and I can't for the life of me figure out how to Edit/Delete channels that we have entered into a Favorites list! We created a HD favorites list but now I can't see where I can delete channels out of that list AND then delete the list??? There has to be a way. Thanks for any help!

    Actually, I created the list in a different place and that is why I couldn't edit or delete anything because I had to go into the MENU/SETUP/FAVORITE LISTS SETUP to do any editing and/or deleting.  That is the ONLY place editing/deleting can be done.  Sorely lacking on instructions for the MENU.   Aren't there instructions for all the different MENU choices somewhere??  Online?  because we sure didn't get a manual telling about all the different choices under the menu. Oh, well.

  • Editing Alpha Channel

    Hi!
    I apologize if this posting has been answered before but I could not find a satisfying answer.
    I am looking for a mean to edit (not create and then edit) an already existing alpha channel in a PNG file (for example). Here is the scenario:
    load a PNG file with a existing transparency layer created with some other application ( I see the usual checker board behind some transparent regions of the image)
    select a region ( lasso, rectangle, ....)
    change the transparency (alpha) of those pixels only, do not change anything else in the reste of the image (ex: make a region more transparent or more opaque). I do not want to edit the RGB content of the pixels, I want to edit their alpha value directly.
    save back the file to a PNG file with modified alpha value.
    It sounds simple and obvious but I dont know how to do that. Would someone be kind enough to explain to me how to do it?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Gilbert

    I have asked many times, through many versions, for tools to manipulate opacity directly, instead of simply RGB. The painting tools and selection tools, specifically, would be greatly enhanced with opacity settings.
    If I could use the magic wand to select all pixels of 4% opacity or less within a layer, it would be amazing. If I could use a paintbrush to paint 100% opacity into any pixel that has any data in it at all, that would be great.
    The key to the request, to make it make sense to users, is that the opacity painting tools would have to ignore empty pixels, while the opacity selection tools would not: any pixel without data in it at all would not be painted into when painting opacity, but would be selected for the purposes of, say, selecting the least opaque pixels in a layer.
    I have amazingly strong feelings about this: I do images where the bounding box of the data in a layer is important, and a stray pixel can mess things up. Or I've wanted to put a layer effect on a layer, but the plethora of nigh-invisible pixels with data in them cause the effect to be unusable. I have wanted to manipulate opacity directly long before now, without having to do an interim alpha-channel mockup. I've made this request for several versions now, and really hope to see something happen. My history-destroying "Opaquify" action could go away (the one that stamps dupes of a layer onto itself sixteen times). It would rock.

  • Efficient Way to Edit with Secondary/Independent Audio?

    Hello community,
    I do a lot of documentary package work and I've finally gotten fed up enough with my workflow to ask this question.  Is it possible to efficiently edit in Premiere Pro when your primary source of audio is independent of your video?
    For example I have an hour's worth of audio from an independent audio recorder.  I sync multiple video clips up to the audio using PluralEyes.  Then I import that XML into PP-CC.
    From there I have an hour long sequence where I mute all but the independent audio track.  And when my producer gives me a script that says to use the SOT from Clip 06: 01:23;01 - 02:01;00,  I have to find Clip 06 in the "good audio" sequence timeline, then double click on it to bring it up in the source window, then put the timecode in the source window, set an in point so I have a reference in the sequence with the good sound, then note the sequence timecode so that I can use it when I put the sequence in the source window so that I can finally get it into my package sequence.
    And after dropping a few different sequences worth of SOTs, PP takes forever to "Prepare the Audio."
    For instance, I'm currently looking at Media Encoder for a minute long package which it telling me it's "Preparing Audio (40 or 517)".  It will take a few hours to prepare that audio, then minutes to render.
    I know I've got to be doing something, or perhaps many things wrong.  Can anyone help my workflow?

    Anyone have an answer to this?

  • Digital waveform channel names are incorrect

    I create a task at runtime where the user selects which physical digital input channels to use and the names for each.  I then sample these digital inputs and write the waveforms to a TDMS file.  The file has the correct data, but only the first channel has the correct name.  Attached is example code that shows the problem.  What am I doing wrong?  I do a similar setup for analog inputs and it works fine.

    Digital Channel Names.vi ‏89 KB

    How are you entering the names?  Here is text straight from the LabVIEW Help
    name to assign specifies a name to assign to the virtual
    channel this VI creates. If you do not wire a value to this input, NI-DAQmx uses
    the physical channel name as the virtual channel name. If you use this input to
    provide your own names for the virtual channels, you must use the names when you
    refer to these channels in other NI-DAQmx VIs and Property Nodes, such as the
    source input of the DAQmx Trigger
    VI.
    If you create multiple virtual channels with one DAQmx Create
    Virtual Channel VI, you can specify a comma-separated list of names to assign to
    the virtual channels. If you provide fewer names than the number of virtual
    channels you create, NI-DAQmx automatically
    assigns names to the virtual channels.
    Are you entering multiple names seperated by a comma?

  • How to split digital waveform channels?

    Hi , could you please let me know how can I split the digital channels of a digital waveform(Let's say the digital waveform has 6 channels ) and graph them seperately.
    It is very easy to split analog waveform signals ( acquired using N channel N sample) but I don't know how to do it for digital waveforms.

    Decimation make sense only to ANALOG signals, as ANALOG signal are continuous and can have any value (within defined range) on the other hand, DIGITAL signals can have just two states (0 or 1), so when you talk about decimating a DIGITAL signal, you need to come up with an algorithm, how you want to knock off the sample data points (say every alternate sample)....!!

  • Edit single channel properties from a channel group

    Hello,
    I'm trying to acquire data on two analogue channels simultaneously, but I want them to have different properties. In my particular case I want one to have AC coupling, and the other to have DC coupling. They're on the same board (a PXI-4461), so it seems like they have to be in the same task. If I use a "DAQmx Channel" property node I can only edit the properties of the whole task, and thus both channels simultaneously, whereas I would like to change the coupling of just one channel.
    Cheers,
    Simon Coop

    Nevermind I found the solution, if anyone's interested it was to put a DAQmx Channel node inside a for loop, then using the ActiveChans option (it has to be first) to select which channel to change the properties of.

  • Can't Save After Editing Waveform From Multitrack FCP Export

    I've exported a multitrack project to Soundtrack Pro from a sequence in Final Cut Pro. I chose destructive editing, which may have been a mistake. I've made extensive changes to the audio, in particular lots of noise reduction.
    Now when I try to save certain of the clips it shows it saving and then it gives me the not-too-descriptive message "The document "(filename)" could not be saved."
    I can save the project, no problem, but when I try to quit Soundtrack Pro, it tells me I have 4 Soundtrack Pro documents with unsaved changes.
    I've done "Save as" and "Save a copy as" on the clip and it will save it, but after the save, Sountrack Pro is still referencing the old file (which is also the file that shows up in the bin.)
    What am I doing wrong? Also, is there a way to tell SP that I've done a "save as" or "save copy as" and want that to be the audio referenced in the project? I'm leaving it running in hopes of finding a solution and not losing my changes. Help!
    Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   4 x 500 GB, 4 GB RAM, 2 x 30" Displays

    I made some progress on this. After doing a "save as" or "save a copy as" on the audio you're editing, you can go to the bin and control-click on the file you can't save to, pick "select all occurrences" and then control-click on the newly saved file and pick "replace selected clips."
    Also I don't know if this is helpful, but /var/log/system.log had a number of failures around the time I was trying to save:

    I used disk utility to compare my second, third and fourth drives with my system drive and noticed that journalling wasn't enabled on the non-system drives. I enabled them. I super doubt that made any difference other than on disk performance.

  • Editing Communication Channel Attributes

    Hi All,
    I have the following scenario.
    I would like to have dynamic Source/Target directories in Dev / QA / Prod using a combination of a variable(from a Z-table), System ID and Connection party
    e.g Source File Directory would be   "/INTERFACES/PRD/3RDPARTY" in Prod but  "/INTERFACES/DEV/3RDPARTY" in Development
    I understand I can manipulate the Integration Builder API to update these field but I want to do it using an ABAP proxy/RFC. i.e code in ABAP not java. Can somebody point me in the right direction or some sample code that I can have a look at.
    I have seen this done before on a previous project but I did no manage to obtain any source code to look through or the steps invovled.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi Raghu,
    I have to disagree with you as I have seen it with my own eyes. On a previous project we executed ABAP programs which called Webservices with changed Source File directories on communication channels based on Z-table configuration in the respective systems. The problem is I cannot contact the programmer and am no longer at the client site to look at the code. I would like anyone who has experience in this to assist me or to possible where to start.

  • Edit Multi-channel wav files?

    I'm working on an audio project where a roundtable discussion was recorded using multiple microphones split onto seven different audio channels in each wav file. Is there a way to bring these into a multi-track project in Soundtrack?
    Right now, I drag a wav file into the project, but the entire file (with seven lines of audio on the green bar) opens up on Track 1. I want to take all of the channels and spread them evenly 1-7, that way I can rename them and know who is on which channel.
    If anyone has any help, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    You could copy the file to seven different tracks, then right-click and select Channel select > Mono > channel #, choosing a different channel for each track.
    Hope that helps!

  • Any way to fade channels independently?

    has anyone come across a plugin that would allow you to change the opacity of each RGB channel separately over time?
    or perhaps there is a way to do this using expressions?
    any help with this would be appreciated!

    so every layer has an opacity option from 0% to 100% right? but this affects all three channels of the layer concurrently. my question is, does anyone know of an easy way (possibly a plugin or expression) that would be like having options such as this:
    * RED channel opacity 0% to 100%
    * GREEN channel opacity 0% to 100%
    * BLUE channel opacity 0% to 100%
    I want to be able to selectively fade one channel's opacity over time...
    none of the standard channel plugins affect opacity of a channel, rather shifting or swapping channels. (at least plugins with "channel" in their name, so i could be overlooking one i haven't tried)
    and you're correct that i could isolate each channel and duplicate the layer 3 times and blend it back together, but there has to be a simpler way.
