Editing an invisible subform

I've created a form that displays a different subForm depending on which radio button (3 choices) the user selected. These 3 subForms all share the same physical space on the form. It works perfectly!
My problem is now that I have these three invisible subForms, I cannot access them to make changes to them. I can select the subForm and even the object with the hierarchy view but when I try and click on the object in the layout to change it, I end up with the object/subForm layered on top of it. I've even tried making them all visible without any luck.
Does anyone have any 'tricks' to get around this? Is there an easier way of designing it so I don't have this problem?

Hi jimmypham. Woo hoo! I think I am finally beginning to understand what you are telling me -- does this mean I'm ready to advance from pre-junior kindergarten level to JK! All kidding aside... as a relative newbie to Designer I certainly appreciate the time and knowledge you and the other mentors provide. Adobe should also appreciate your effort too -- without your help, this product wouldn't survive. Their online help is overwhelming for a newbie, and too difficult to find information when you don't know the terminology, and even if you accidentally get to the right topic, it is too difficult to follow. If I only had F1 to rely on I'd be dumping this software.
Honestly... I did look at, and tried to use, the example you provided us on HongWei.pdf before. Unfortunately, when the flow content is chosen on the parent subForm it automatically takes all the fields and places them on after another vertically (just like it's supposed to). Even changing the flow direction from 'Bottom to Top' to 'Western Text' didn't help as the layout of my form doesn't render itself to either of these flows. It would be great to have a third flow type option -- 'Custom'. Can I add this to my Designer wish list?
My document is a legal sized form organized into numerous groups of related fields with lots of boilerplate objects to make it more functional and easier for the user to follow. Alas, there isn't enough space to have my subForms 'flow' too. So I guess I'm outa luck on this one huh?

Acrobat renders edited text invisible

When making manual edits in a pdf (missing source files), we find that randomly the edited text will render invisible, and we don't have a method for bringing it back. If I highlight and copy to another program, the entire word will come appear. If I convert the text in a pdf to another font, and back again, it will appear correctly. However, it's difficult to run over multiple edits and make that kind of massive correction. Is this common, and is there a fix?

Visible/invisible subform based on choices from 2 dropdowns

Does anyone have an example of a form with subforms being visible/invisible based on the answers of 2 dropdowns.

Hi Jagan,
It is probablly just how you set up the script.
For starters, for Yes/No choices I think you would be better to use radio buttons instead of checkbox objects. So for example you would have four different radio button exclusion groups, each with a Yes and No radio button. Then in the Object > Binding palette, you would set the Yes value to 1 and the No value to 0.
This way you can sum the four radio button exclusion groups and if the total value is >=1 then change the presence of the text field and highlighting to suit.

How can I force an "invisible" object to become "visible" when a numeric value is entered?

So I’m trying to force an “invisible” subform to switch to “visible” when a numeric value greater than or equal to 22 is input into a numeric field.
I can’t get the following javascript code to work properly with any event. I’ve tried the change, calculate, validate, events and a few more to no avail. The only event that kind of works with the javascript code I’m using is the validate event. When I input the code into the validateevent, the invisible subform becomes visible when an amount equal to or greater than 22 is entered, but when ANY amount is input into this field, an error message pops up that says “NumericField4 validation failed” and the user has to click “Ok” to get rid of the pop up box.

The object field that the javascript code is contained in is called: NumericField4 (a.k.a. New Job Grade)
The subform that I want to become visible when a number greater than 22 is input into NumericField4, is called Approval23.

Invisible elements error message

Hello. I have searched this and it is coming up empty. I had
no problems the first 2 weeks of inserting images. Now when I try
to insert>image it gives me this error message:
"You won't see this element unless View>Visual
Aids>Invisible Elements is checked and the preference setting
for this element is on."
Ok...I went and checked view>visual aids>invisible
elements. It is checkmarked. I looked inside
Edit>Preferences>Invisible Elements and went in and check
marked them all to make sure. Nothing changes. Still getting the
error message.
ANy help would be so greatly appreciated as I have class on

I have not had this problem before. Any time I try to shift+enter I get the error message telling me to go to View>Visual Aids>Invisible Elements and make sure the Invisible Elements is checked; it is.
If I just use Enter, it turns the whole page to "paragraph" and adds extra spaces to the sections. My Main Text rule has not changed.
I notice in the Code View that I have the Menu-Location=Home notes that I never had before.
I do appreciate you trying to help me.

External edits (PS CS 6) do not transfer from iPhoto to Aperture

I am sharing my main Aperture libary between Aperture and iPhoto. It works well, only external edits are problematic, when done while browsing the library in iPhoto.
When I open the library in iPhoto and edit a jpeg photo in Photoshop CS6, I can see clearly the edited version in the browser, for example, after applying the oil-paint effect in CS6.
But in Aperture the edits do not show: After switching from iPhoto to Aperture the externally edited image is still showing the original version, no indication of an external edit in the badges, no new version generated.
But when I drag the preview from the browser, the preview is showing the edits done in Photoshop CS6.
I suspect, because iPhoto is not creating a new quasi master like Aperture, and the external edits are witten to the preview of the edited version, the only way to access the external iPhoto edits will be by exporting the preview.
I tried this, because I wanted to avoid the creation of tiff or psd files as quasi masters, when doing external edits on jpegs, but when the edits are invisible in Aperture it will be no great help. Now, is that a bug or a feature?

So, to clarify, what's happening is that the Thumbnails are not updating to match the changes made in Photoshop?
Where is your Library? On your start-up disk? On an External? If on an External, what format is that?
This might be a form of corruption, try Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
Maybe I need to reset the Preferences?
Perhaps? Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
Is it because I a have accumulated about 5,000 images in my library and the program is maxing out?
iPhoto 09 is good for a 250,000 images so you've got a little headroom yet...

Editing hidden layers is it possible?

I am trying to use the eraser on a hidden layer, but photoshop is not allowing me to do this. I seem to remember that I have done this in the past. I need the layer to be invisible to work on. Can anybody tell me how I need to alter the settings to be able to edit an invisible/hidden layer?

Show the layer you want to "hide"
Option click on the mask symbol to place a mask filled with solid black on that layer
It is now "hidden"
Paint in white on the mask to reveal (un-hide) areas in your "hidden" layer

TP4 - PPR and af:subform don't work together

Hello,
I have a form (enclosed in a af:subform) that is refreshed by PPR from a table. If I don't use af:subform PPR works correctly, but if I use af:subform only af:inputText that have readOnly="true" gets refreshed.
I need subform because I have required fields and I need validation to happen only when save on that subform occurs.
This behaviour was in TP3 too.
Is there a workaround for this?

There are 3 ways of refreshing edit form in this jspx file. If you run it you will notice that only latest panel box (the one without af:subform works correctly).
In the first two... only the first field is refreshed correctly.

Transaction variant not working

Hey,
I am facing with this peculiar problem of transaction variant. I created a transaction variant as desired by my client for VA01 and activated the same. I checked the status in the transaction VA01 and there it showed that the transaction variant has been successfully applied. But when I check for the fields that I wanted to be made non editable or invisible the same was not reflected in the transaction. Now after trying enough like creating new transaction variants, adding new screen variants to the existing transaction variant, somehow it has started working. But now when I change the transaction variant, even after activating it, the changes in the variant are not reflected in the transaction. Old changes are being reflected. Please advise!
The reconstruction steps are as follows:

just check out the following pre-requisites if you have followed them or not:
You can assign various transaction variants to individual sales document types.
With the help of transaction variants, you create various variants for the same transaction in order to simplify your transaction flows. You can achieve this by:
Preassigning fields with values
Fading out and changing input availability for fields
Fading out entire screens
In this way, you can provide your users with screens which are defined according to their specific needs per sales document type.
When a transaction variant is created, several screen variants are created for each individual screen for the transaction chosen for the variant. The system accesses this screen variant when a transaction variant is applied.
PrerequisitesIn the standard system, transaction variants for Sales (for example, quotation, sales order, credit memo request, group master contract) are defined for all business objects. Assignment of transaction variants for the sales document type is carried out in Customizing for sales document types.
Activities
You will find the transaction for creating a transaction variant in Customizing, under General Settings - Field Display Characteristics - Configure application transaction fields. You can find further information on this in the implementation guide.
Assignment of transaction variants to sales document types can be found in Customizing for Sales, under Sales - Sales Documents - Sales Document Header - Define Sales Document Types in the Variants field.
In order that a transaction can be called up depending on a sales document type, the system of course needs the information as to which sales document type should be worked with. This choice is however made by the user on the initial screen first.
This means that the initial screen can not be modified or faded out within a transaction variant. If you wish to miss out or modify the initial screen with the choice of sales document types, you need to create a variant transaction, this means a variant is created for a complete transaction. This transaction will then have ist own name, which has been defined by you.

How do I lock PDF before e-mailing so that it cannot be altered by the recipient?

I've created a form in LiveCycle which will be seen and filled by users who only have Reader.
Once the form is completed, the user has to click three buttons: one prints the page (for a specific paper-based usage required by the filler of the form). The same button sends the entire form to one e-mail address.
The second button prepares the form for submission to a second e-mail recipient. This recipient must not be able to see some of the filled fields on the form. As well as setting these fields to invisible, the second button also hides key fields behind a text message, telling the second recipient where to find the information that is most useful to them on the form. Again, this recipient will be using only Acrobat Reader.
Everything works fine, apart from when it comes to e-mailing the form to the second recipient. I've used various scripts I've found on this forum and elsewhere to lock fields before sending and I've extended Reader rights in Acrobat. But, whatever I do, the form received by the recipients is STILL editable, the "invisible" fields are visible again and also editable, and the test box that obscured key fields has become invisible again.
I've already tried using a range of scripts that I've found both on this forum and elsewhere (including Paul Guerrett's 'Lock All Fields' and 'Lock All Fields Not Buttons' scripts. I've also tried using the scripts in different 'events' - mouse up, mouse down, click etc.
What am I doing wrong? I've spent days trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere.
I am a JavaScript novice, by the way. So please keep it simple and (better still) provide working script! Thanks to anyone who can help

I can see 2 possible options for you to investigate,
1) Submit the form to a LiveCycle process and let LiveCycle Output turn the PDF into a PDFA and then email the second recipient.
if you don't have a LiveCycle Output server
2) Remove the second submit button and add a signature field which can lock the entire PDF.. once signed the PDF can be email directly from Reader/Acrobat using the File>Attach To Email
One thing to remember is that anything that can achieved through script can also be undone through script written into the javascript console, so if you a working with sensitive data you should use one of the options above.

Server Side Includes not displaying in DW CS3 design view

I have this code in my page (see below):
When I open the file in Dreamweaver MX 2004 in design view,
the page displays correctly. That is, I see the correct styles from
the style sheet contained in Head_Standard.html and the logo/menu
in Logo_TopMenu.html
When I open the page in DW CS3, I do not see the effects of
the style sheet and I do not see the logo/menu.
However, when I change the code for the first include from:
virtual="/ServerSide
to
virtual="
../../ServerSide
then the page renders correctly in Dreamweaver CS3.
My first reaction was: what?! And my question is: how do I
use a root reference inside the head and get it to display properly
in DW CS 3?

For me:
/ServerSide... does NOT work
../../ServerSide... works
So, a relative reference works and a reference to the root
does not. I have over 20 websites with root references and I need
this to work in DW9.

How to change a single page orientation in pages

I would like to know if anybody knows how to change a single page orientation in Pages.

Of course it unrotates the text if I'm editing the text box, but not when I'm resizing or changing font properties. And when editng the text and there is an image beside it, the image obscures the text which makes editing exasperating. And since I got a table on landscape that exceeds 7.5" width, when trying to edit the last 2 columns,those become invisible on portrait, hence I'm unable to edit. And so has to set the doc to landscape, set to 0-deg, edit, set it again to portrait and 90-deg, and repeat if I happen to need to edit those invisible columns. Really a great and efficient way to write my technical doc! Which you would know IF YOU HAD TRIED IT -don't appreciate your sarcasm!
You can defend this blatant failure all you want but this kind of inadequancy continues because people don't speak up and demand this reasonable function and instead are satisfied with work-arounds that makes things hard for relatively easy task. I'm a systems and applications designer, this is the type of "missing feature" that would cause our app to be rejected by our clients. Surely you realized that because the users demanded, since 10.7, window resizing can be done from all corners instead of just right corners (or was it only bottom right)? I was shocked when I discovered this 2yrs ago when I switched to Mac and started using Snow Leopard. I'm grateful that I can now resize on 4's.

How to make fields read-only

While I may allow a customer to see their billing address, I don't want them to change it. How can I make certain fields read-only?

If you are using 2007, find the ~/common/controls/accountaddressblock.ascx and make the templatefields that hold the delete button and the edit button invisible.

You will probably also want to make the add button invisible.
If you are on 5.9, this may not work. I think the address block is also used in the admin area.

Local PHP Preview?

Hello all
I am currently using the standard version of snow leopard. I am trying to set up a web development environment. However the problem I am facing is this. When previewing and working with PHP files I keep have to make manual adjustments to url to get them accessed via "http://" rather than "file:///". Would this still be an issue were to bite the bullet and install Snow Leopard Server on my iMac. I am going to be doing a lot of Web development over the coming months. So I want to get a set-up that will save me having to mess around with editing with invisible files etc.
Any help and advice would be greatly recieved.

why not go turn on System Preferences > Sharing > Web Sharing
put your files in ~/Sites and point your browser to http://localhost/~username

Mouse Settings

Got an iMac next to my vista desktop.
Trouble is, I hate using the Mac. Yet I need it for work.
The problem is the cursor control, I don't know if it's standard with all Macs but it has some sort of accelerator, and depending how fast I move the mouse it'll go from ultra mega super unbearable slow, then suddenly jump to the speed I set it as.
Question: How do I get rid of the accelerator effect?
I just want it to be my set speed no matter how slow I move the mouse.
I've looked everywhere for the setting that changes it. Not found a thing. Though I am new to Mac OS, so I may have missed something. Any help would be appreciated.

I have, unfortunately, no idea how to get rid of that behaviour. But I would sure like to. It's one of my biggest annoyances since moving to OSX. I switch between Tiger and OS9 daily, and OS9 offers pitch-perfect mouse control. Tiger has this weird and irritating feature that varies the mouse speed according to how fast you move your physical mouse. It's driving me crazy.
Im replying only to show sympathy with the OP, and also bumping this post. Hopefully someone can come up with a solution for it.
I googled the problem, and apparently it doesn't matter what mouse you have (I have a Logitech). Somebody here, in 2002 already:
