EJB3 without annotations

Hi,
Is it possible to create EJB 3 beans without using annotations? I'm using a J2EE profiler that doesn't show any EJB data, most likely because annotations are being used. If I can find a way to specify the EJB3 beans without using Java Annotations, then I might starting seeing EJB data.
Thank you.
Regards,

this situation bothered me extremely as well. you can solve it one of two ways.
as the previous poster mentioned, you can separate your entities from your DTO's. this is nice in a lot of ways because the ideal objects for over-the-wire usage may be very different from the ideal objects for your database model. the downside of this approach is that you may end up duplicating a lot of work.
the alternative, is using xml files to describe your entities. this is still supported in ejb3, although it is not obvious from a lot of the documentation. annotations were meant to remove the need for xml config files, but almost everything you can do with annotations is still possible via xml configuration (in fact, you can combine the two, doing some configuration with annotations and some with xml, where xml based configuration will override annotation based configuration). check out documentation on "orm.xml" for details. the upside of this solution is it removes annotations from your entities. the downside is that it can be a little more work to manage than annotation based configuration.

    Hello,
    I have not tried to secure an EJB based WS during development but you can do it for sure from the deployed application using the Application Server Console.
    Go in EM, select Web Services tab, and on your EJB service click administration, you will be able to add security and other administration configuration.

  • Printing PDF files from Preview without annotations

    I've annotated a bunch of PDFs in preview, but I would like to print them out without any annotations. Is this possible?
    Thanks!

    Print the originals, sans markup. Or, if you didn't save them with a different name, remove the annotations from a copy, and then print.

  • Ask for help:Preview in Mountain Lion without Annotation hyperlink function ??

    Hi Pancenter,
    Thanks for your reply.
    And I understand you have to ask those questions, and no I have not installed any new software from any such sites, I have the most basic form of Logic Pro 9, with no plugins, extras, or anything.
    I am using the Mac audio interface, at least I believe I am.  It is the Core audio driver, nothing more.
    I do not have the install DVD, unfortunately, and I have recently wiped my Mac clean and reinstalled OS X 10.8.3 from a bootable flash drive.
    I HAVE installed two 4GB RAM in the two slots, which seemed to be working fine before the upgrade to Mountain Lion, and I believe they have the specifications necessary to be run on my computer, however, I can always double check, just to make sure.
    I have reinstalled 10.8.3 several times, to no avail, unfortunately.  It does seem, however, that the issues have come about only after installing Logic (i.e. audio issues), though, I do have many other issues, such as unexpected application crashes, that were present before the installation (after wiping my hard disk and resinstalling OS X).  There was a point where, I completely forgot what I did to achieve this, however, before I completely wiped my hard disk and reinstalled Mountain Lion, I performed some actions, whether it was deleting .plists, caches, booting in safe mode, that fixed ALL of my issues, including those relating to app crashes, and it wasn't until I decided to restart my computer one night, that, when the system booted up again, all of the issues returned, immediately.  As I said, however, I cannot remember what it was that I did.  I have already tried deleting .plists and caches, etc., still, to no avail.
    I apologize if I am replying late, I'm currently a student so with all of my course work, it can be slightly challenging to check in regularly.
    Thank you for the reply.

  • Web services and EJB3 @resource annotation

    This block of code works fine when NetworkViewBean is left as a @Stateless session bean.
    Once I have JDeveloper 10.1.3 production expose it as a web service, I can no longer call the Entity Manager @Resource.
    I always get a java.lang.NullPointerException returned.
    Any ideas?? thanks for your help!
    @WebService(name = "NetworkViewWS", serviceName = "NetworkViewWS")

    if (name == null || name.length()== 0) return "Null Input Parameter Specified";
    NetDevice N= null;
    try {
    N= (NetDevice)em.createNamedQuery("findByDeviceName").setParameter(0, name).getSingleResult();

    Hi Joshua,
    The problem is that you are using a regular Java web service and in 10.1.3.0.0 we do not have support for dependency injection in the container in the web container i.e. you cannot use annotations such as EJB, Resource in any classes in the web container.
    You have two options:
    1. Lookup an EJB from regular Java web service (JSR-181)
    or
    2. Make your Web service as a EJB 3.0 web service
    Here what you can do to create an EJB 3.0 web service from JDev
    1. Create an EJB 3.0 Session bean with remote interface
    2. Change your remote interface to a web service end-point change @Remote to @WebService (import javax.jws.WebService)
    3. You do not have to use @WebMethod, we automatically expose all methods in the end-point interface in the web service
    4. You can inject EJB using @EJB
    5. Create a deployment profile for the EJB-jar and deploy the ejb-jar and the EJB will be exposed as a web service. The context-uri for the web service will be /ejb-jarName
    Hope this helps!

  • Novice EJB2 to EJB3 Conversion Question

    I would like to convert my stateless remote session beans to EJB3 using annotations. Can this be done incrementally?
    My first attempt, after adding the appropriate annotations, was to comment-out the session element for one of my beans in the ejb-jar.xml file. When I deployed this using weblogic.Deployer, it simply was not deployed. No error messages or warnings were evident.

  • EJB3: What is the easiest way to handle the rapid change DB structure?

    Hi,
    I'm new in EJB, and it's the biggest leap to learn EJB3 without having strong fundamental in EJB 2.Currently, I'm facing the inefficient way to handle database rapid change on my Web Application. I choose JSP, Struts, and EJB3 with Oracle Database 10.1.0.5, Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1, Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.
    I've followed tutorial how to make EJB3 Entity Bean, and how to access EJB Session Bean from JSP. But in that tutorial, there is no clue how to manage or change Entity Bean if there is a change in table structure, let say add 2 new fields, and change 1 field type from VARCHAR to NUMBER..
    What has been done was I create a new EJB3 project, and build all new Entity Bean. All generated JAVA file is copied and pasted to my current Entity Bean file.
    Is there any other easiest and simplest way to handle the rapid change in development process? As I noticed that EJB 3 using TopLink to handle Entity Bean creation process, but i haven't found articles or tutorial how to deal with my problem.
    Thanks..

    Unfortunately there is no automatic way to do this with EJB right now. You'll basically need to go into your entity bean and add/change the attribute to match the new database column.
    Note that we do provide automatic synchronization or the ADF Business Components framework - in case you choose to use it instead of EJB 3.0.
    Also if you are just starting your development/learning I think you might want to use JSF and not Struts. Seems like JSF has a much better future then Struts.

  • Servlet 3.0 with annotations & tomcat 7

    Hey Folks,
    I am at my wits end here trying to deploy a servlet with annotations.
    I have managed to successfully deploy it without annotations i.e via the web.xml & everything is fine but I get a status 404 when trying to deploy with annotations.
    I am running tomcat :
    Server version: Apache Tomcat/7.0.12
    Server built: Apr 1 2011 06:13:02
    Server number: 7.0.12.0
    OS Name: Linux
    OS Version: 2.6.35-28-generic
    Architecture: i386
    JVM Version: 1.6.0_20-b02
    JVM Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
    I followed the spec so I am sure I am doing everything right from a coding point of view, there is no mention of this servlet what so ever in the apps web.xml
    WebServlet(urlPatterns={"/HelloServlet3"})
    +public class HelloServlet3 extends HttpServlet {+
    +@Override+
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
    HttpServletResponse response)
    +...+
    +}+
    The compiled class file (wihin package moreservlets) is located in the following directory
    *~/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.12/webapps/onjava/WEB-INF/classes/moreservlets*
    The application onjava is mapped in the server.xml
    view plaincopy to clipboardprint?
    +<Context path="/onjava" docBase="/home/rob/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.12/webapps/onjava" debug="0" reloadable="true" />+
    This application has both annotated servlets which don't work & regular servlets with web.xml which do work, can I mix both for onjava above?
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Rob

    Apologies for that, but I sent that thread a few days ago on javaranch but got no reply so I thought I would try this site, I intend to post the solution to both forums.
    Yes that was the issue I changed to the 3.0 version as specified below & all worked well
    <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd"
    version="3.0">
    & it worked, thanks for your help!

  • JBoss Can't find Oracle Driver

    Hello, everyone,
    I'm hoping someone can help me.
    I've created a small web service. I have one method which returns something very straight forward, and it works fine.
    I have then progressed this to try to return some data from an Oracle table.
    However, when I try to do this, I get an error back saying that the Oracle Driver can not be found.
    I am using JBoss, and am running this in Eclipse's Web Service Explorer.
    The things I have tried to solve the issue are:
    - Ensuring the Oracle driver is located in Windows>Preferences>General>Data Management>Connectivity>Driver Definitions
    - Placing the Oracle driver jar in as many lib folders in my JBoss directory on my C drive as possible (I may have missed some out).
    I am not sure what else to try. Please can someone help me or point me in the right direction?
    Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    You have to put the path of the driver jar file on server.xml file. If you open up the server.xml file inside the config directory of the appserver instance you will find all the paths are added to <java-config java-home = tag. So place the path in this place. Then there should not be any problem getting the driver.

  • EJB 3.0 lookup in Weblogic 10.3.0

    Hello everyone,
    1: Our application runs on Weblogic Application Server,version 10.3.0
    2: In our system,we need to deploy an EJB conforming to the EJB 3.0 specification.
    Please find the sample code for our UAT environment as below :
    /*The remote interface*/
    package com.serverside.ejb.session;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    @Remote
    public interface ASimpleSessionBeanRemote {
         public void printThis(String print);
    /*The bean class*/
    package com.serverside.ejb.session;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    * Session Bean implementation class ASimpleSessionBean
    @Stateless(name="ASimpleSessionBean", mappedName = "ASimpleSessionEJB")
    @Remote(ASimpleSessionBeanRemote.class)
    public class ASimpleSessionBean implements ASimpleSessionBeanRemote {
    * Default constructor.
    public ASimpleSessionBean() {
    // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
         @Override
         public void printThis(String print) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              System.out.println("ASimpleSessionBean : "+print);
    3: The above files when packaged in jar get deployed on the server successfully.
    4: As per EJB 3.0 specification,the deployement descriptors are not mandatory.Hence,the jar doesn't include ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    5: Please find below,the EJB3.0 annotations reference as per the Weblogic Application Server Documentation :
    Annotation : @Stateless
    Package: javax.ejb.Stateless
    Attribute : mappedName
    Description :
    Specifies the product-specific name to which the stateless session bean should be mapped.
    You can also use this attribute to specify the JNDI name of this stateless session bean. WebLogic Server uses the value of the mappedName attribute when creating the bean’s global JNDI name. In particular, the JNDI name will be:
    mappedName#name_of_businessInterface
    where name_of_businessInterface is the fully qualified name of the business interface of this session bean.
    For example, if you specify mappedName="bank" and the fully qualified name of the business interface is com.CheckingAccount, then the JNDI of the business interface is bank#com.CheckingAccount.
    6: Conforming to the above specification, the sample EJB deployed on our application server has the binding name(as reflected in the jndi tree) as follows :
    ASimpleSessionEJB#com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSessionBeanRemote
    A jndi lookup using this name succeeds :
    InitialContext.doLookup("ASimpleSessionEJB#com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSesionBeanRemote");
    7: Now,we want the binding name to be a simple string i.e the lookup must be something like :
    InitialContext.doLookup("ASimpleSessionEJB");
    8: To implement point-7,we tried using the ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml as follows :
    ->ejb-jar.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ASCII"?>
    <ejb-jar xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:ejb="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd" version="3.0">
    <display-name>ejb</display-name>
    <enterprise-beans>
         <session>
              <ejb-name>ASimpleSessionBean</ejb-name>
              <ejb-ref>
                   <ejb-ref-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</ejb-ref-name>
                   <remote>com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSessionBeanRemote</remote>
                   <mapped-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</mapped-name>
              </ejb-ref>
         </session>
    </enterprise-beans>
    </ejb-jar>
    ->weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wls:weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns:wls="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar/1.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">

         <wls:jndi-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</wls:jndi-name>
    </wls:weblogic-enterprise-bean>
    </wls:weblogic-ejb-jar>
    9: Inspite of the point-8,the binding name remains as follows :
    ASimpleSessionEJB#com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSessionBeanRemote
    10: Please guide us about the solution and implementation to attend point-7.
    Thanks !

    Hi,
    I find distributed applications very interesting (even though this application of mine could just use sockets - it is nicer than EJB 2.1). You don't need the @Local DI and local interface if you only do remote - so here is some minimal hello world code that currently works on a test network of mine.
    In this example I have provided only a remote stateless session bean and an SE client (could be a pojo or servlet).
    The *@Stateful* SB has been converted to a *@Stateless* SB (now the state field doesn't really hold state as the container pools the SSB - but this is an unrelated issue as I an not using transactions yet anyway). The key is naming the SSB with the mappedName attribute so you can easily reference it - or just check your logs after you deploy the EAR containing the EJB in your EE server.
    Note: WebLogic also registers a legacy EJB 2.1 compliant jndi name alias for you as well appsdirorg_eclipse_persistence_example_distributed_ClientEAR_earorg_eclipse_persistence_example_distributed_ClientEJB_jarNode_Home*
    For your specific question about dependency injection (which is implemented by Spring AOP inside the server).
    Use @Remote on your Remote inteface class
    Use @Stateless on your session bean implementation class
    Use @EJB to inject your stateless session bean into a servlet for example (I have not tried using @EJB on a POJO - it would need to be running on the WebLogic container in the WAR or EJB.jar - don't think that is supported - I have not tried @Resource or spring annotations for this yet)
    This example (reduced to show a single remote server) uses a JNDI lookup to get a reference to the remote bean (full try/catch exception handlers in full code near end of post).
          Hashtable<String, String> aTable =  new Hashtable<String, String>();
          aTable.put("java.naming.factory.initial","weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
          aTable.put("java.naming.provider.url", "beowulf5");
          Context aContext = new InitialContext(aTable);
          Object aRemoteReference = aContext.lookup("ejb/Node#org.eclipse.persistence.example.distributed.NodeRemote");
          NodeRemote aNode = (NodeRemote) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(aRemoteReference, NodeRemote.class);
          aNode.setState(0)); // remote method invocationI deploy an EAR containing the SSB on distributed servers on any EE container - I chose WebLogic 10.3.4.
    I run an SE app that connects to a list of servers that that are running the remote stateless session bean. The code is very naive at this point, it does retry bad connections and it is not yet multithreaded - just a proof of concept for EJB 3 remote session beans.
    The InitialContext RMI handshaking will take around 10 sec per server to setup - then you can do up to 200k remote EJB RMI invokacations per second/thread on my machine.
    The @Local code is only required if you wish to optimize using your SSB on the same JVM.
    The JPA peristence code can be ignored (no EJB 3.0 Entities)
    I just discovered the forum code tag in square brackets after 2 years

  • EJB 3.0 lookup with WLS 10.3.0

    Hello everyone,
    1: Our application runs on Weblogic Application Server,version 10.3.0
    2: In our system,we need to deploy an EJB conforming to the EJB 3.0 specification.
    Please find the sample code for our UAT environment as below :
    /*The remote interface*/
    package com.serverside.ejb.session;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    @Remote
    public interface ASimpleSessionBeanRemote {
         public void printThis(String print);
    /*The bean class*/
    package com.serverside.ejb.session;
    import javax.ejb.Remote;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    * Session Bean implementation class ASimpleSessionBean
    @Stateless(name="ASimpleSessionBean", mappedName = "ASimpleSessionEJB")
    @Remote(ASimpleSessionBeanRemote.class)
    public class ASimpleSessionBean implements ASimpleSessionBeanRemote {
    * Default constructor.
    public ASimpleSessionBean() {
    // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
         @Override
         public void printThis(String print) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              System.out.println("ASimpleSessionBean : "+print);
    InitialContext.doLookup("ASimpleSessionEJB#com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSesionBeanRemote");
    7: Now,we want the binding name to be a simple string i.e the lookup must be something like :
    InitialContext.doLookup("ASimpleSessionEJB");
    8: To implement point-7,we tried using the ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml as follows :
    ->ejb-jar.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ASCII"?>
    <ejb-jar xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:ejb="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd" version="3.0">
    <display-name>ejb</display-name>
    <enterprise-beans>
         <session>
              <ejb-name>ASimpleSessionBean</ejb-name>
              <ejb-ref>
                   <ejb-ref-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</ejb-ref-name>
                   <remote>com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSessionBeanRemote</remote>
                   <mapped-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</mapped-name>
              </ejb-ref>
         </session>
    </enterprise-beans>
    </ejb-jar>
    ->weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wls:weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns:wls="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-ejb-jar/1.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
    <!-- server-version: 10.3.0 --><wls:weblogic-enterprise-bean>
         <wls:ejb-name>ASimpleSessionBean</wls:ejb-name>
         <wls:stateless-session-descriptor>
              <wls:business-interface-jndi-name-map>
                   <wls:business-remote>ASimpleSessionBeanRemote</wls:business-remote>
                   <wls:jndi-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</wls:jndi-name>
              </wls:business-interface-jndi-name-map></wls:stateless-session-descriptor>
         <wls:jndi-name>ASimpleSessionEJB</wls:jndi-name>
    </wls:weblogic-enterprise-bean>
    </wls:weblogic-ejb-jar>
    9: Inspite of the point-8,the binding name remains as follows :
    ASimpleSessionEJB#com.serverside.ejb.session.ASimpleSessionBeanRemote
    10: Please guide us about the solution and implementation to attend point-7.
    Thanks

    ThanksOkay. I guide you... to the correct forum branch, because this is a Weblogic specific problem. Server specific issues hardly ever get resolved in the Enteprise Javabeans thread.

    Make a new post there and if you are really decent you post a link to it here so in the off-chance that someone capable to help finds this post and thus can follow it to your real thread.

  • How to pass a value to path attribute of jpf:forward at run time.

    Hi all,
    I have a public variable in my controller and I am getting a value from my jsp
    and assigning it to that variable.
    Now the question is how to pass that variable value to path attribute of jpf:forward.
    @jpf:forward name="success" path="promoLink"
    Here in this case promoLink is a public variable in my controller.
    Pls suggest.
    Thanks.

    Hi Vijay,
    You posted this a while ago -- not sure if you've found a solution already,
    but in case you haven't...
    If you want to construct the Forward dynamically, you can do it without
    annotations. There are constructors that take URI and URL, which you can
    use like this:
    * @jpf:action
    public Forward goSomewhere()
    return new Forward( new URI( promoLink ) );
    Does this address your question?

  • Missing xsi:type, invalid xml generated, jaxb 1.6

    Hi,
    i've this XML Schema defined for my doc/lit web service:
    <complexType name="CasDataType">
      <sequence>
        <element name="key"  type="long"  nillable="false  minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1"/>
      </sequence>
    </complexType>
    <complexType name="AddressDataType">
      <complexContent>
        <extension base="tns:CasDataType">
          <sequence>
            <element name="FirstName"  nillable="true" minOccurs="0" type="string"/>
            <element name="LastName"  nillable="true" minOccurs="0" type="string"/>
          </sequence>
        </extension>
      </complexContent>
    </complexType>If i create a AddressDataType and return it with my web service, the jaxb-marshaller generates this xml code:
    <casDataTypes>
          <key>123</key>
          <FirstName>Ingo</FirstName>
          <LastName>Siebert</LastName>
    </casDataTypes>But correct would be this:
    <casDataTypes xsi:type="AddressDataType" >
          <key>123</key>
          <FirstName>Ingo</FirstName>
          <LastName>Siebert</LastName>
    </casDataTypes>Is this error already known?
    Is it fixed with jaxb 2.0?
    I doesn't like annotations, is it possible with jaxb 2.0 (XJC task) to geneate files without annotations?
    Cheers,
    Ingo

    Not got a single answer , surprise whether the question is too dumb to ask or JAXB doesn't support feature or my requirement is weird :-) ... in any case let me know please

  • Strange name of generated XML table

    Hi,
    I have registered schema and I got XMLType table with name like:
    "mainElem514_TAB".
    I know that I can use annotation to change the name.
    Is it possible to generate the table(without annotation) with name mainElem514_TAB ?
    I mean without "".
    regards,
    Cezary

    Annotation is the preferred way of doing this, particularly if you want to work with the XML repository feature. You can create tables manually. Look at the XDB Documentation for more info...
