Ejecting IPod from computer

I know the iPod needs to be ejected properly or it may damage it but i cannot do it. i keep getting an error message that says it cannot be ejected. When i eject the ipod, it imediately sasy syncronizing, and then an error pops up that says " iPod contains files that are in use by another application. I cant find any other things that are using the iPod. Any ideas?

Cannot eject ipod from my computer

every time i connect my ipod this thing e_t tm auto play shows up. i can see my ipod in windows and in itunes. but when i try to eject it from itunes and the little green arrow in windows it says, the device "generic volume" cannot be stopped right now. what do i do? the only way to disconnect my ipod is to shut down windows which is pretty annoying. sigh, cannot wait to get a mac.

Well, it may not specifically be your PC...but get rid of it anyway.
It could be that your iPod is conflicting with another device on the USB chain. Connect your iPod to a rear port on your doomed PC, then connect your keyboard and mouse. Disconnect ALL other USB devices including printers, external hard drives, digital cameras, phones, scanners, modems, thumb drives, improbability drives, flash camera memory readers, etc. If you are on a network, disconnect from the network.
After this give your iPod a new drive letter, something much higher such as M or P or Z.

Cannot eject iPod from iTunes Window

When I try to eject my iPod from the iTunes screen I get a "Windows - No Disk" pop up error saying that there is no disk in the drive, put a disk into the H drive. I also get an iTunes message alert that The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application. I can see the iPod name in Windows Explorer and I can safely eject using the XP Window's "Safely Remove Hardware" feature, but I want to fix this problem and free up whatever file that is being used by another application.

Are you using any third party applications to access/manage your iPod. I know that Red Chair Anapod causes this conflict with iTunes and I'm sure that other applications do to. Try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling the latest version.

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.
If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.
Some anti-virus security software (particularly McAfee) can also cause a problem, and if you have this you might want to try turning it off and see if the iPod then ejects correctly.

here is what my pc states when i try to discconnect:
the ipod cannot be ejected beacuse it contains files that are in use by another application.
steps i took
1-safely remove hardware(results no good)
2-ejecting from i tunes(results no good)
3-going into expolre ejecting from there(results no good)
4-shutting down windows(results good, of course the computer is off)
i tried to read the forum but could not find any results and the forum
seems compilicated as to other forums hard to search for the exact question

It's not clear what you are actually doing.
The normal procedure is eject using iTunes, wait a few (about 3) seconds, and the iPod shows the "Its safe to disconnect" message with a white progressing bar below. You can disconnect the iPod at any time from then on.
If you missed the message (lasts about 1 minute), what you see is the normal iPod menu, the one seen when it is not connected, and in fact you can use the iPod normally while it keeps charging from the USB port. After a while the screen saver kicks in and you see the big battery charging.
I mentioned iTunes version because Vista had a bug, then iTunes had a bug, the latest version works around the Vista bug. Perhaps you are still running into the Vista bug.

Ejecting iPod from iTunes

It seems whenever I update my iPod, and the iPod update is complete message comes up I try to to eject my iPod, but after several seconds of no response, a message pops up saying iPod cannot be ejected because some of its files are still in use. What does this mean, and how do I stop this?
PS: Could this have something to do with the fact that the artwork I use on my one and only podcast cast subscription is being randomly shown on whole albums of mine? Two albums I have that I know about show the correct artwork in iTunes, but not on the iPod itself.

Try exiting iTunes and then using Windows to eject the iPod (either find it in "My Computer" and select it and eject it or use the icon that appears in your system tray when you plug in the iPod - down by your computer's clock - to pull up a box from which you can select the iPod and "stop" it).

Transfering music via ipod from computer

I'm transfering my music from my old computer to my new one. I've followed the steps on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173 but now both computers say my ipod nano is associated with another computer. And my music transferred to my new computer but when I open itunes with my ipod connected it is under SHARED not DEVICES and where my ipod is listed. help please.

The song is not saved in your computer hardrive, so itunes cant find the file. One thing you can try is using IpodCopy
It takes your music from your ipod and puts it onto your computer. Download this software into your new computer and try it out. I've never actually used this so dont ask me about problems that u may have. To be safe, put your ipod in manual update before you try it.

Trouble getting all songs onto Ipod from computer

I am attempting to put all 8000 songs from my Itunes library onto my Ipod, but only half will sync. I am getting the following error, "attempting to copy to the disk "Vanessas Ipod" failed. An unknown error occured (-69)" Can anyone help me? I had to restore my Ipod after my computer crashed, all songs are still there, but won't go to the Ipod.

Uninstalling IPOD from computer

Tried to purchase music and was asked if I wanted latest version of software updated. I answered yes and from there no one can help me. Encountered error number 1603. I spoke with Apple who walked me through uninstalling Itunes from my computer. It will not uninstall without an error code (1603). They suggested this to be a microsoft problem. After 2 hours (and $35.00) later they cannot figure out either why I am not able to uninstall Itunes.

I don't belive the iPod software takes up that much room. Most everything revolves around iTunes, so if you want to keep it, I wouldn't worry about it. You could always back up your library, delete iTunes and then reinstall it and install your backup library, if you are so inclined.

Trouble disconnecting Ipod from computer after updating/charging

Just bought a 5th gen and I started to have this problem. The first few times after it updated, the window on my Ipod showed the battery being/finished charged, and allowed my to disconnect. Now after updating, it just keeps showing "Do not disconnect" and will not allow me to unhook. (I have to go to USB icon on tool bar and dissconnect that way, even though it still shows do not disco on the Ipod window.)
Is there something wrong, and will I create a problem on my Ipod discoing the way I do?

it recognizes my ipod but when i click the sync button nothing happens and my ipod is still missing the songs that i just bought from my computer
try playing one of the purchased songs for a few seconds in itunes. do you get asked to authorise? if so, and if you do, do the purchases transfer to the ipod when you sync?

Drag and drop feature won't work when loading to ipod from computer

My ipod has been a source of joy for 1 1/2 years. Suddenly, my drag and drop feature has stopped me cold. I can't load my audiobooks from the itunes library to my ipod. Any ideas??

Is the iPod still set up for MANUAL updating?

MPEG-1, layer 2 cannot be copied on iPod from computer

Is it normal that a MPEG-1 layer 2 (layer 3, I don't even know what those mean!)
cannot be transfered from iTunes on my G5 to my iPod (iPod Classic 30GB, software 1.3)?
I noticed that I can transfert MPEG-1 layer 3 with no problem.
Is there any way I can modify a layer 2 file into layer 3 and vice versa?
What are those layers anyway?

Unplugging Ipod from computer getting error message....help!

I just got my nano I hooked it all up and downloaded music to it. I'm now ready to remove it from the cable and when I click on the icon to disconnect I get an error message that says 'the ipod mini cannot be disconnected because it contains files that are in use from another application' I don't think I have anything else running. Any suggestions?
