Elements 5. NO HELP Menu available - any clues appreciated!

Just called cust.serv. but they sent me here. Got this Elements with a scanner I bought recently. Just started using...I love the program...however I am new and needed to use the help menu...I could not access anything on the help menu! Nada - when I click on the help drop down menu, nothing, when I type a word in and hit enter, nothing.
I run this on a PC with Microsoft XP as my o.s. Anyone out there have a clue as to why this might happen and/or how I might access this?

Sylvia:
First thing to try is to re-install Photoshop Elements from the CD that came with your scanner.
Second thing would be to look at the Elements 6 online help at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PhotoshopElements/6.0/index.html
Version 6 is different than Version 5 in many ways, but it's also the same in many ways.
Cheers

  • Spotlight + help menu -- crashes any programs

Has anyone else had a program crash when opening/typing into the Leopard help menu? I figured out the other day that if you accidentally open Spotlight when you have the help menu open, whatever program you're currently using will crash. It's very annoying bug. Anyone had this happen before?

Thanks, Ian, for your helpful link! I treid all teh suggested solutions on that page, and finally wound up using the excellent Pacifist, found at http://www.charlessoft.com/
With the help of Pacifist, I was able to get HelpViewer reinstalled and all my mac help menus are available again.
Again, thanks for your help. I'm very grateful.
    Best,

  • How to restart firefox if you don't access the help menu or any tabs?

I was in the middle of restarting firefox when my laptop shut off (I have a macbook pro) & when I turned it back on I opened firefox and this message keeps popping up:
"Profile missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible."
I've tried looking it up but all I'm getting told is how to reset it & a few other things I can't figure out.
I can't reset it since when I open it the only menu option is "firefox" there's no "help" menu or anything like before. Also I've tried turning off my laptop & reinstalling it, I logged out & went onto another account and the firefox worked fine.. except I don't want to have to use another account when all my stuff is on this one. So is there any other way to reset it or something quick to do?

I'm not sure it's necessary to use the Reset feature, but if you wanted to, I think you would need to hold down the Option key when starting Firefox. That should display a small dialog with the choices of starting in Safe Mode or performing a Reset.
By the way, did you find this article? It has the steps to investigate whether your profile folder actually is truly gone: [[How to run Firefox when your profile is missing or inaccessible]].
If you use Time Machine or other backup software/service, you may be able to restore your profile folder. However, as a Windows user, I'm out of my depth on the steps for that.

  • Technical issues with update function in help menu

This is likely not the correct place, but I was not able to ascertain where I should ask this. I have the full CS6 suite, and am unable to get anything to happen when I attempt to use the update function within the help menu of any of the programs in the suite. I have even tried to use the update program that came with the suite, but still nothing works. When in the programs, I click the link listed as "updates" and nothing happens what so ever. This is a common occurance regardless of the specific program.
    My system specs:
    Athlon X6 CPU
    16Gb ram
    Radeon HD 6950 2Gb
    ASrock extreme 3 mb
Hard drive is a pair of seagate 500Gb drives in RAID0 array
OS is Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Current version showing in Photoshop and Illustrator is 13.0.1

    Notice where it says
"No update override. If there is no UpdateOverride the Mediator simply propagates the changes to the underlying data sources. "
That's what you want. Want to see it work? "import metadata" for a database table. Open the data service that is created. Execute the function with the same name as the table. Click on the "Edit" button, change some data, click on Submit. You've done it. Re-execute the function with the same name as the table to see the modified data.
And it doesn't stop there - you can build logical data services on top of that physical data services, and when you update data in the logical data service, the changes will be propagated to the underlying physical data services.
is it possible to create a Data Service that performs updates, and make it available for ALSB as a Web Service, like the get methods it already creates?Well, this is a different question now. Yes it is possible, please read : http://e-docs.bea.com/aldsp/docs25/appdev/alsb_support.html

  • Adobe Reader XI is missing "check Updates" link on Help menu

On several installations of Adobe Reader, we are missing the check updates link on the Help menu.  any help or suggestions on how to fix that?

On Windows this item might be missing for Standard User on XP OS
Also, search Registry for the value named bUpdater in the Adobe Policy hive.
If this value is set to 0, try to delete the value, restart Reader and check the menu.

  • "Find Example..." missing from the help menu

    Both the files:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\help\_exfinder.llb
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Example Finder\1.0\BIN\NIExampleFinder.exe
are in place and functional but the menu item is missing off my v7.1.1 help menu.
Any idea how I can put it back?

I would agree with tst that a repair or uninstall and re-install would be the way to go.  Before you do that though, just make sure that it isn't one of the hidden menu items by clicking on Help twice, or the double arrow at the bottom.  I can't tell you how many times I go looking for Save All and have a moment of panic when I can't find it before I remember those seldom used menu items get hidden.
    Hope this helps!

  • No help menu

After installing Final Cut Studio 3 I have no help menu in any of the apps. It tells me Javascript must be enabled. As far as I can tell it is. Well, that box is ticked in my Safari 4.0.3 preferences. This problem is not happening with any of my other Apple software (e.g. Logic Pro 8). Am I misunderstanding something simple?

Me too. I poked at it a bit, but couldn't resolve so I went to
    http://www.documentation.apple.com/
    and downloaded the PDF versions.

  • Since I have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, I have not been able to start up Photoshop Elements 9! or Premiere Elements 9! The menu starts up allright, but the programs don't start when I press any buttons. How do I fix this problem?

Since I have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, I have not been able to start up Photoshop Elements 9! or Premiere Elements 9! The menu starts up alright, but the programs don't start when I press any buttons. How do I fix this problem?

If Layers is greyed out it possibly means that you are in Quick Mode. Select 'Expert' and all the options should become available.
Try permanently associating psd files with C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and see if that fixes the issue. Instructions here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/choose-programs-windows-uses-default.

  • I am having a problem using the help menu in Adobe elements 5

I am having a problem using the help menu in Adobe elements number five.
When I open the help menu, the dialogue box defaults to an unreadable display font. Is there any way to change that default font? Using the help menus to find a solution is not possible for I cannot read what it is displaying.

For product, there is an option in preferences where we can set fonts. There are two options: One is application font and other is system font. I am talking about elements 8 which I have but not sure that will solve your problem which is help related.
Hope Help in 5th version is html which opens in Browser? Please confirm.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 crashes every time I open Help menu

I just got a Bamboo Capture tablet accessory for my iMac from the Apple Store.  It comes bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.  I installed Elements, yet every time I try to open the HELP menu it crashes and an error message comes up saying
"Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 quit unexpectedly."
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'launch path not accessible'
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
I have an iMac running OS X Snow Leopard
Adobe won't offer any assistance unless I pay $39, even though I bought this product TODAY!

Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elemetns 8 settings
Repair permissions and try again. Also, I hope you didn't install the driver from the disc that came with your tablet. Go to Intuos's website and download the latest version.

  • I have CS2 but my help menu shows up as Photoshop Elements

I have CS2 but my help menu shows up as Photoshop Elements. Does any one know what the issue is?

    THANK YOU CHRIS!
You solved my problem. I did have one unused language defined, i thought i needed 2 languages but apparantly i don't, because my DVD now works fine.
It was very hard to trace the problem because the whole concept of languages and menus is still sort of unclear to me. I guess i need to do some studying on that. The DVDP manual sadly lacks a good tutorial on how to set up a multi-lingual DVD with multiple subtitle streams.
Now i've set up 2 menus for each version (the movie with and without subtitles), only one language and all is well.
One thing still puzzles me: The first version (the one with the unusued language) did play fine on a G4 with Panther. The white menus showed up on a G5 with Tiger and on my standalone DVD-players. So somehow Quicktime also plays a role in this. The fact that this is a DVD9 has nothing to do with it. Thanks again.

  • Elements Help Menu

When I try to access Elements 11 Help menu I get a message "there was an error launching the default browser"  I already tried to reinstall the program and I get the same error message. How can I get the Help menu to work?

You could download the latest help files to your local machine. They are available in PDF format although may be a bit slow downloading.

  • Hi, Need help. I am trying to download the latest iTunes for Windows application but on running the program it says that it can not be completed as it can not find the folder location of the file "iTunes.msi" . Any clues would be appreciated

Hi, Need help. I am trying to download the latest iTunes for Windows application but on running the program it says that it can not be completed as it can not find the folder location of the file "iTunes.msi" . Any clues would be appreciated

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

It is Command+r or for the online internet system it is Command+option/Alt+r keys. Then you use Disk Utility to erase the macintosh partition, from the built in recovery hd, or you can repartition the drive as one partition from the online system.
To actually get to the online internet system you have to hold that key combo down until you see a globe on the screen. Otherwise it will just boot from the built in recovery hd on the internal drive.
