Embedding pdf documents in HTML

Hi everyone,
I am working on a project where I need to embed some previously created pdf files into a web page. I am using object method and seems to be working in general, but having some issues while printing.
First issue: In Firefox and IE, the embedded pdf object is not printing. There is a blank area where the document needs to be. I am thinking it's an Adobe Reader plug-in issue. Is there a setting that disables printing that object? In Chrome, the printing is complete- guessing Chrome has its own pdf viewer plugin.
Second issue: Part of my project is to be able to add two or three lines of text as a header to these pdf documents. When I embed this pdf object, I am trying to scale down, so that there is room to add that header. But the scaling affects the quality of the printout. Do you have any recommendations on how to add header to the embedded pdf in HTML?
Thank you,
G

yes, you just need to bundle your classes in a .jar
file, and there is like an <embed> tag or something
that lets you tell the html which class has the
main() method, and it runs it fine. I did it a while
a go so i know you can do it.
Thanx a lot.. I know it is a stupid question but i have never worked with .jar files before can u tell me how to put my classes in one?

  • IWeb • How Do I Make Links in an Embedded PDF Document Open in New Page?

    On this page http://ostyn-newman.com/Gov_Downloads.html I have a PDF document that is embedded.  I tried an IFrame, but everything seemed to work better for me with the "Embed" code.  I am open to changing this if it would be better.  Here's my problem.  I can get the PDF document to display fine, but when I click on the links in the PDF document, the destination page opens in the embedded window.  I want the links to open the destination in a new window.
    I created the part of the document with most of the links (Pages 8.5 - 56) in Numbers and cut and pasted the table into a Pages document to create the completed document on our site.  I exported the docuemnt from Pages as a PDF file which is what you see.  There is also a link to download the file on the same page which works just fine.
    I have tried to insert the target="_blank" code but have not been able to get it to open the destination pages in a new window.  I am inserting the code by using the Insert/Widget/HTML Snippet Feature in IWeb.  Here is the code I am using.
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" >
    </embed>
    I am not a coder and have just used Google to find the code to cut and paste and have played around with it to get to the place I am.  If anybody can tweak the code I have or offer some totally new code for me to insert that will get this to work would be greatly appreciated.
    Please keep in mind that most of the people who visit and use this page are government employees and are almost exclusivey using Explorer.

    Thank you Jeff,
    I tried your original suggestion and now my inserted html widget reads
    <embed src=
    "http://ostyn-newman.com/Media/GS27F0026XTextfile.pdf"
    style="width:850px; height:1000px;
    border-width:0px;
    border-color:#FFCC66;
    border-style:solid;"
    scrolling="auto" target="_blank">
    </embed>
    It is live on my site.  You can see that the embedded document still opens the destination links in the embedded window.
    As for your other two suggestions, thank you as well.  I am aware of those techniques and did not use them because that is not how I want the other PDF links on the page to behave.  The catalog and autocad blocks downloads in the box at the top should simply download (or behave however the client's browser is configured to handle downloaded PDF documents or zip files.)  I don't intend to force those to open a new window.  I could also have our client click on a link to the PDF document and open it in a new page (like in your second suggestion) but I was hoping to embed the PDF and have it automatically viewable on our Download • Terms • Prices Page with all of the PDF search functions intact as well as the links be active.  My only complaint at this point is that the links in the embedded PDF document open the destination page in the embed window instead of a new window.  I only want to force a new window because the destination window doesn't behave properly when it opens in my embed window and it is difficult to figure out how to go back to the my PDF document when a destination window gets opened in the embed window.  The code you sent didn't do the trick.  Or maybe I didn't get it exactly right.  That is why I included it above.  Thanks for trying though.  I appreciate the effort.
    I would be willing to bypass the imbed/iFrame route altogether if I could just somehow drop the Pages document into the IWeb page and retain the search and link features, but I've not been able to figure out how to do that.  When I was exploring how to directly drop a Pages document into an IWeb page is when I stumbled on the method of embedding a PDF document into an IWeb page to retain the important search and link features.

  • Can I open embedded PDF documents in a PDF file on an iPad or Android?

    Not sure if first post got through, the forum required me to change password ...
    So I'm trying to open embedded PDF documents in a "parent" PDF document on an iPad.
    On a PC the file opens fine.
    On an iPad 2 with Adobe's Reader the same file says it's corrupted.
    On PDF Pro the file opens, I can see the listing of embedded PDF documents but when I click on them nothing happens.
    Is there a way for a PDF file with embedded hyperlinked PDF documents to be displayed on an iPad or Android?

    pages on the iOS has access only to the camera roll to embedd pictures , but no external files.
    Content from other documents like pdf can be copied and pasted by using Adobe Reader for iOS or the iBooks.app, open the pdf , copy text , then go to pages.app and paste text into the document there.

  • Send word or pdf document as HTML email

    Hello all,
    we have word documents (on a local file) that we want to send via SAP as HTML email, i.e. we need the content of the word document in the email body. The documents also contain images. With the class cl_bcs I can send mails including attachments and also pure HTML but I don't know how to convert the word or pdf document into HTML and how to process it to get the images in the correct way. Is there perhaps a more direct way to achieve the goal to mail the word documents? Is there anybody who can help?
    Thank you very much and best regards
    Frank

    First, as you guessed, most (all?) mail clients don't display "complex" documents (doc, xls, pdf, etc.) inside a mail, they are always provided as attachments. Only simple documents like images can be directly displayed.
    SAP's job is not to convert from a format to another, especially .DOC and .PDF formats, which are rather complex.
    You'd better look at specialized third-party softwares. Note that SAP has a connection tool called BC-XDC (eXternal Document Converter) which is used to connect these third-party softwares to SAP. You may look at the certified softwares using this connection tool.
    Notes: if the .DOC and .PDF documents are generated by one of your programs, prefer to modify them to generate the documents in another format (HTML) instead of converting them. I can't say much as I don't know your exact scenario.
    There is also SO_RTF_TO_HTM (and CONVERT_TEXT maybe) function module, but I wouldn't expect much of it.

  • Is it possible to stream video into a PDF document with HTML 5?

    I'm trying to get around using flash to stream videos into my interactive PDF documents, as it's not supported on iOS. I'm wondering if there's a way to use HTML 5 to acomplish something similar. I have access to both InDesign CC and the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro.

    An alternative is to separate the quiz pages to a separate document and include it in the main PDF as a file attachment. You can create links in the main document to the attachment so that it opens in a new window. When this quiz document is closed, the main document will be open.

  • Inserting/Embedding PDF documents to an SAP Adobe Form

    Hi all,
    We have a requirement to insert/embed an external PDF documents to an SAP Adobe Form.
    Please provide pointers in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Sandhya

    Tim, a change like this is really simple.
    Formcalc and javascript are pretty similar - when I started developing AIF a year ago, I knew nothing about either of them... not that I know a whole lot now...
    The Help in Livecycle designer is actually quite helpful when it comes to scripting. Also, there's a google group you can join where you can email questions for help.
    You would just call the form like you normall do. The code is placed INSIDE your form "under" your field. There is a script editor built in to Adobe - Click Pallettes -> Script Editor to see it.
    there are many events on which to place code - you will need to find an event that triggers early - such as Form:Ready etc...
    Here's an example I have with 2 radiobuttons and a text box. If my 'yes' radiobutton is chosen, I make my input box visible
    if ( yes.rawValue eq "1" ) then
    data.Page2.grp2.func.rb.ifyes.presence  = "visible"
    endif
    Same concept if my 'No' button is chosen
    if ( no.rawValue eq "2" ) then
    data.Page2.grp2.func.rb.ifyes.presence  = "hidden"
    endif
    Both of these scripts are in the "click" event of the radiobutton.
    Lastly, here's a link to a great resource on Scripting
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/articles/lc_designer_scripting_basics/lc_designer_scripting_basics.pdf
    Scripting, on a moderate to small scale, will make your life a bit easier. Don't try to do too much, otherwise you'll find AIF may be the wrong tool for what you're trying to do.

  • Insert/Embedding PDF documents to SAP Adobe forms

    Hi all,
    We have a requirement to insert/embed an external PDF documents to an SAP Adobe Form.
    Please provide pointers in this regard.
    Thanks,

    I would think the common sense approach would be to upgrade to ECC 6 first then migrate your forms.
    This seems to be just another step in the upgrade process.
    We went from 4.7 to ECC 6, but only had Smartforms and SAPScripts. We wound up just re-creating the forms directly in Adobe.

    HI,
    wat i understand is u r trying to loop at a variable window .but tht is not suggestable.
    write a loop in program lines. read the values in to different variables and the try printing them as text elements that will solve the problem.
    or else in other way use a template and that can also solve the problem.

  • Hyperlink from an HTML page directly to an artikle in a pdf document ?

    Hi,
    we would like to set a direct link from a HTML page to a special article in a pdf document. For the moment we could open the pdf document only at its first page.
    Thank you for your help :-)

    Hi,
    it's me again.
    Well, with the PDF open parameters I am now able to open a pdf document via HTML on a specific page number.
    (http://example.org/doc.pdf#page=10)
    However page numbers are changing so I want do define a special Article using the following command:
    http://example.org/doc.pdf#nameddest=Article16
    but the pdf opens always at the first page. Is there something to do in the pdf document with Article 16 first ?

  • Trouble with flash preview of PDF documents, embedding.

    Yesterday, I noticed that the embedded PDF documents that I have posted on my blog weren't loading. The message in the embed window reads: 'Unable to Create Flash Preview. Please download to view in the native application.' In Acrobat.com, when I try to open the file for viewing it has a message that says: 'This file cannot be previewed. Please download instead.'
    Thinking that there might be a problem with my PDF files, I uploaded a Word .doc, and used Acrobat.com to create the PDF. That PDF wouldn't preview either. I signed into my wife's Acrobat.com account, and had the same problem.
    Any help would be appreciated! Cheers, Chris. I will attach a copy of the PDF I am trying to upload and embed, in case there are problems with the file itself (?)

    Michelle-
    Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. It's weird, eh? I tried the flash update, tried opening everything in FireFox... Same problems. I am attaching a few screencaps so that you can see what it is doing.

  • How to extract embedded pdf in MS word document

    Hi
    My project needs us to extract a embedded pdf document in a MS word document.
    Can anyone advise how to extract an embedded pdf document in a MS word document using .NET.
    Thanks

    >According to the MSDN website as follows:...
    Yes, it seems to say that Word doesn't support directly extracting an
    object once it is embedded, but fortunately for some MS Office formats
    there are OLE classes that can help.
    >Pls see the reply by Geof Darst which mentioned that for pdf documents attached in the word document, the support should be from Adobe.
    Well, it actually says "I suspect that Adobe Acrobat exposes a similar
    programming model because there is an Adobe Acrobat Type Library. "
    This means the writer saw the object model, not that he saw anything
    about it.
    Maybe it works, but it certainly isn't a use of the Acrobat object
    model I've ever seen before.
    What I see happen when I double click on an embedded Acrobat OLE
    object is that it opens in Acrobat Professional. I could then save the
    file. This may mean that if you can automate Word to open the object,
    then you can use Acrobat's API to ask it to save a newly opened PDF.
    An interesting experiment.

  • Cannot Save or Print Embedded PDFs From IE9

    I have a machine that is having difficulty saving or printing embedded PDF’s from web pages. Embedded meaning that the PDF is displayed in a reader window, within a web page. I am able to view the PDF without any problem however if I try and click the Save button, nothing happens. If I try to print the PDF, the browser crashes.
    This is a Windows 7 32-bit machine with IE 9 installed. I am also using Acrobat Pro 10.1.2. I have tried repairing Acrobat without any success, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling without any success. I am able to open PDF documents stored locally as files without any problem, and I am also able to open PDF documents from other websites that are simply links without any problem. I have tried disabling the Display PDF is Browser setting, but that only produces a red X in the placeholder for the embedded PDF. I get the same results if I log into this computer as another user. I have other computers with identical software installed that are working just fine without a problem.
    Anyone else having problems saving embedded PDF documents from websites? I am stumped as to why this happens or how to fix it.

    I am having a similar issue only with ADP pay statements that are embedded.  I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, installed Adobe XI, installed an older version.  When we click print first the reader crashes and then IE9 crashes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to save changes to embedded PDF inside Excel 2007

    I'm using Excel 2007 & opening a document (in xls format).  I embed an Acrobat 9 Pro PDF file into it.  I right-click on the embedded PDF & choose Open, then make changes to it & try to save but I get "The document could not be saved.  Cannot write to this file.  Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder" error.  How do you edit embedded PDF documents inside Excel 2007?  Note: I can save the PDF externally, then edit it and put it back inside the Excel workbook.  Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Amita
    actually when i tried to modify the XDP file, i found that for all DCs in that particular track no XDP file has been generated. also that the templateSource property of the InteractiveForm UI Element is blank while as it should point to the template on file system.
      i checked the SAPNote 822198 as suggested on this thread Link: [Adobe Document Server issues - cannot save metadata of interactive form UI; but it has not solved my issue.
    can you please suggest wat the issue might be??

  • Reader OLE server does not draw PDF-document if paper size is too big

    If PDF document paper size is for example A0 (841 x 1189 mm) OLE object can be created and application shows PDF content correctly. But if application saves it's document and reopens it Reader does not draw content of embedded PDF document any more. Decreasing PDF document size to A1 solves the problem. Embedded object is not corrupted because it is possible to open it to Reader.
    I'm confused why Acrobat Reader OLE server is capable of drawing PDF file content in creation phase but not later on when application opens same file containing embedded PDF objects.
    "Application" means all possible application that has OLE support. I have tried this with three different applications and the behavior is same with all applications. Because of this I assume that application I'm developing does not have bug.

    Hello Sig
    The scanner works with a Windows computer, which proves the device is functional at a cursory level. The drivers are now distributed by Apple and this is an Apple computer. There is no scanning software provided by HP. HP's answer is that Mountain Lion takes care of all of this.  I anticipate that some setting or driver was somehow tweaked since the scanner had been working with Mountain Lion until a few days ago.  The device in question is an Apple product. So, I'm pretty confident that I'm in the right place.

  • Firefox 4.0 support for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript

    I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 and can no longer print embedded PDF documents contained in an iFrame.
    My company's web application has several pages which load PDF files from a Servlet into an iFrame. The pages in question all have "Print" buttons which when clicked executes a JavaScript function to obtain reference to the iframe containing the PDF, place it into focus() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].focus();), and invoke print() (e.g., frames['pdfdoc'].print();). There are no errors, or exceptions caught when the JavaScript function is invoked, but the "Print" button is no longer operational.
    Does Firefox 4.0 no longer support iFrames? The issue goes away if I revert back to ver 3.6.16

    I have same issue for printing embedded PDF files in iFrames via JavaScript in Firefox 5.0.
    In previous versions it was working fine. But not in Firefox 4.0/5.0.
    Is there any solution for this problem?
