Enter 24 hour times in iCal.

I use 24 hour time and I cannot figure out how to get iCal to allow me to enter times correctly. How does one do this? I can customize times in systems preferences so they display correctly but I cannot get a iCal to let me type them in.

Rob,
...but I cannot get a iCal to let me type them in.
I use the 24 hour display, and I have to use the Up/Down arrow keys when entering time information.
If that is not working for you, try refreshing the iCal plist file.
Quit iCal and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for time entry.

  • 24 Hour times in iCal

Just a query......does anyone know how to make the timing based on a 24h clock (I just hate AM/PM because my work is 24h shift based).
    Cheers HyperDoc

This is a goofy Mac OS X 10.4 thing.
Launch System Preferences and open the International preference pane in the Personal panel. Press the Formats tab and then the Customize… button in the center, under the Times section.
Under the Show: Short menu, you should see two values listed, the first representing hours, and the second representing minutes. If you click on that first value, you should see a downward-facing triangle. Press it to drop-down a menu on the right hand side of the value, and select the 01-24 format choice. Press the OK button, and quit.
iCal should display 24 hour times from that point on, though some users—all or most using releases prior to version 2—indicating that existing event times don't shift to 24 hour representation. All of mine did.

  • Switching from 12 to 24 hour time in ical - disappearing times

I live in the US, but I wanted my clock to change to 24 hour time. I did that, but then my region has to be custom and now the time displayed on the left has disappeared. I don't feel like this should be so complicated, but... it is. So I looked up how to change the time, and it worked, but the numbers disappeared and that's not very helpful since that was what I was trying to change. I can even change it back and they're still gone.

Never mind! I restarted iCal (not sure why I didn't think of that before) and the time display on the left returned! But still, I hope for a simpler option for switching to 24 hour time in the future. All you should have to do in my opinion is click on a check box or bullet.
So people with disappearing time displays may want to attempt that.

  • How to enter time into iCal?

iCal is supposed to have some type of natural language support.  However, I can't get it to consistently enter a time.  Most of the time it has the all day option checked.
    I've tried these formats:
some kind of meeting @ 8a
    some kind of meeting @8a
some kind of meeting at 8a
However, randomly it will use the time and the all day option is not checked.  Does any one know how to make this work consistently?

'AM' or 'PM' that's right for the start time. The app appears to make the ending time 1 hour later which would make sense. Of course, once the event is created, it can be edited. Not entering a start time will make the 'All Day' checkbox be checked since the app doesn't know it's not an all day event.
EDITED: Also ran a test entering a new event like this: Meeting at 8am until 3pm. The entry in iCal was: Event name of Meeting     Time of 8:00am-3:00pm

  • If I enter the time of day as I am entering a new event, iCal automatically enters the time into the daily calendar and deletes the time of day from my entry

    Hi,
This feature is new in Lion. I get what Apple is doing but I don't view the calendar in day mode. I use iCal exclusively in Month mode. Therefore, if I add an entry like "10:00am doctor's appt.," iCal will (correctly) assume the obvious, and enter the event as "doctor's appt." at the 10:00 am slot in the daily view. The trouble is, I don't look at the daily view, and I have missed a few appointments because I didn't realize what was going on.
My best work-around right now is to use a semi-colon for the time. That way, iCal won't automatically assume I'm talking about a time of day. For example, I now write "10;00am doctor's appt." This way, iCal puts in on the monthly calendar exactly the way I wrote it, like it was doing in Snow Leopard.
Is there a more elegant solution than using semi-colons for the time to counteract iCal's insistence on entering the time automatically into the daily view?

Perhaps users in the iCal forum know of a solution?

  • How do you date and time stamp iCal entries?  We share an event calendar and need to know when a new event was entered into iCal.

    BKBK,
Thank you for your response. That does adequately cover the
client-originated sessions, but still leaves the ability I am
    looking for unavailable.
It did serve to definitively answer my most pressing
    question, however, with this statement:
Note: ColdFusion cannot create a session if an initiator
application uses a SendGatewayMessage method to start an
interaction with a client, such as an SMS user. In this case, the
sending code must keep track (for example, in a database) of the
messages it sends and their destinations. When a response event
arrives, it can look up the origniatorID to determine whether it
was in response to an outgoing message.
I will play around with the Application scope to see if there
might be a workable solution there.

  • HT1245 When I enter an appointment in ical on the macbook it syncs as a different time on my iPhone?

When I enter an appointment in ical on the macbook it syncs as a different time on my iPhone?

If you want to sync calendar events over the air with your Google calendar and when creating a new event on the iPhone it will be created and synced with your Google calendar automatically, you need to select your Google calendar as your default calendar, not your iCloud account calendar.

  • I am having multiple issues with syncing my iphone calendar and outlook There are often 1 hour time differences in the entries on the 2 devices and sometimes events that have been amended are not updated on iphone I mostly enter items on my laptop

This sounds like an error in Time Zone support. The time zone needs to be the same in Outlook as well as the phone.

  • Since Time Change, iCal and iPhone Calendar Time Are All Messed Up

Ever since the most recent daylight-savings time change, I noticed all events I created in iCal, when synced with my iPhone, became an hour off. If I edit the event on the iPhone, it stays the correct time on my iPhone, but when it syncs with iCal again, the time on iCal goes off by another hour, even though the time for the event on the iPhone stays correct. (Hopefully that makes sense) Has anyone else experienced this problem? It is incredibly annoying, because now I have no trust in any of my calendar entries as to what the correct time is.
As an example: I created an event for Sunday the 16th on iCal on my Mac for a 1-hour soccer game from 8:00PM - 9:00PM. When I synced my iPhone, I noticed a few days later that the event on my iPhone now said the event was from 9:00PM - 10:00PM...one hour off! I edited the event on my iPhone, and re-synced. Now my iPhone has the correct time (which I manually edited on the phone) but iCal now says the event goes from 7:00PM - 8:00PM. Again, an hour off, but in the reverse direction (an hour off early, rather than late). When I sync now, even though the times on the iPhone and the times on iCal don't match, they do not change...it's as if either the computer or the phone didn't recognize daylight savings time or something, and thinks it has the correct time for the event. Both my Mac and my iPhone's clocks do display the correct time and date, however, so it's not like the system clock is off. It is completely bizarre, and I entered my entire teams schedule this way, so ALL games were off, and now is completely screwed up. Please help.

Yes, I did. I posted an identical post in the iPhone forum since no one answered here. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1791145&tstart=0
The first reply solved the problem. It involved the Time Zone setting in iCal Advanced preferences for me.

  • Why is there a discrepancy in time between iCal on the computer and iCal on the iPhone?

If I enter an event into iCal from the iPhone, it will be displayed three hours earlier when I access iCal from the computer.  If I enter the event from the computer, it displays three hours later in iCal on the iPhone.  The time zone is set correctly on the computer and on the iPhone.

Well, using iMovie to rearrange clips in a mini DV video edited by another program is extremely time consuming. I found a workaround. It still takes time, but it's much faster than rearranging the clips using iMovie.
The workaround is as follows. Bring up Finder and go to the directory where your event's clips are stored (typically ~/Movies/iMovie Events/<name of event>). It helps to setup Finder to be in Cover Flow mode, so you can see the beginning of each clip. Then, sort the files in ascending order by the 'Date Modified' field. This makes Finder sort the files in the same order that they were imported from the mini DV tape. Clips with timecodes have the naming convention "clip-<year>-<month>-<day> hour;minute;second.dv". Clips without timecodes use another naming convention. With the files sorted by "Date Modified" in Finder, rename clips as needed so that the date/time in their file names are in ascending order. Note: when you rename a file, you need to restart iMovie. I suggest not running iMovie while renaming files.
I believe the file date/timestamp is only accurate to the second. Occasionally, there may be a couple of clips that have the same date/timestamp. This may cause the ordering to not be correct. The best way to find these is through iMovie. To modify a file's date/time, right click on the clip in the event in iMovie, and then select "Adjust Clip Date and Time...".
So, this workaround is a lot easier and faster than trying to rearrange things from scratch in iMovie. But it's still time consuming. Creating a project out of an already edited video should take less than 5 minutes (not counting import time), but that's not the case.
I submitted an enhancement request to Apple asking if they can add an option to sort an event's clips in the order that they were imported by iMovie. Those who have the same issue as me, I suggest you submit an enhancement request as well.
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Every hour in my iCal is Saturday, every event starts at 19:00, every file is stored at 19:00...?

    1) Every hour in my iCal has suddenly became marked as "Sat", except Noon
    2) Any event I enter to iCal starts at 19:00 regardless of actual time
    3) Any file saved on my computer shows "Date Modified" with correct date but time always starts with "19:XX" (the minutes seem correct).
My computer time is correct. I have tried to restart my apps and computer several times but no change.
    Any ideas?

Issue solved. I had entered 19: manually to Language & Text > Formats > Times manually to get 24hr format instead of using Apple time fields. Stupid me.

  • How do I sync travel time from iCal to calendar on an iOS device?

Hi, I really like the feature travel time in iCal. Unfortunale it only works great on the Mac. Therefor I only get the correct time when to leave when I am at home.
    I have an example:
I made an apointment that is 2 hours and 3 minutes travel time away on my iMac. This is actually transferred to my iPhone correctly.
I also added an apointment with a lication in the same city. On the iMac it shows me that I will need 8 minutes from the first meeting to the second apointment and that it will remind me in time to leave. Everything seems fine. But when I look in calendar on my iPhone it will remind me 1 hour and 8 minutes before the meeting starts. That does not make any sense.
I thought that maybe iOS calendar adds the usual time set to remind me and adds the driving time. This is not the case since the usuall time is set to two hours. On the iMac the usuall time to remember me is set to one hour. It is probbably coming from here that it adds the hour but it does not make sense.
Does anynbody know how to use the travel time funktion properly for all devices?
I am also lokking for a way to set the reminder to travel time plus X minutes. It would make sence to get reminded when to get ready and not when you sit at your desk and are actually supposed to get out of the house...

    Ok, I found the answer.
iCal will push the travel time plus the standard reminder time to the iOS device. So I set the standard remeinder to 10 minutes and I know whenever I am reminded that I have 10 minutes to get going. We can only hope that Apple will work some kinks out of this feature and we will be able to set a standard reminder for all appointments with travel time like "Leave in 30 minutes" to finish up what your doing or wrap up a meeting and then "leave in 5 minutes" to really get going. If you have the same issue write to apple.com/feedback. Maybe they will work on it if the get more feedbacks...

  • How do I change to 24 hour format in iCal?

I have an iMac Maverick 10.9.1  Currently iCal is set up with the AM/PM format.  How do I change it the 24 hour format(i.e. 1800 = 6pm)?

    arneomi93,
Quit Calendar, open System Preferences...>Language & Regions>Regions: and set/-re-set the appropriate Region. Also, make sure the "Time format:" in that preference pane is checked for 24-Hour Time.
