Enter/View comments using Financial Reporting.

Hi Gurus,
Is there a way to have comments written using Financial reporting.
Example:
I have created a FR report for budgeting. I would like to have users provision to enter thier comments. the comments could be another grid or another section in the report.
This is something like annotations in Hyperion Planning. Unfortunately, we don't use Hyperion planning to retrieve annotations to FR.
Any workarounds or inputs on having commentory is welcome.
Cheers,
Satya.

Hi Satya,
There is a new feature in v11 that allows you to add annotations / comments to a Financial Reporting report. It seems to be similar to cell text function in essbase but if you are on this version it is worth investigating to see what can be achieved.
If you are using a version earlier than this, i.e. v9.3.x or below then I am not aware of any way of adding comments directly to Financial Reports although if you use Hyperion Planning it is possible to pull Supporting Detail or Annotations into FR reports. There are a couple of other options available to you:
1. One of the sample Web Analysis reports does what you are requesting, it has one panel containing a grid report and another panel containing comments that can be added to / amended by users.
2. You could pull the FR report out into MS Word using SmartView
Hope this helps

  • Reporting cell comments with Financial Reporting

    Hi all,
Is there anyway to report comments attached to cells in "Planning data forms" with Financial reporting? Which function should I be using to do that?
I am using the 11.1.2.2 version.
    Thanks.

I believe the functionality is <<CellText("GridName", Row, Column, Page)>> whcih retrieves planning cell comments.
The full FR studio guide is here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/fr_user_epm/frameset.htm?launch.html search for celltext and it will give you more detail.

  • Export FR without using Financial Reporting Studio

    Good morning.
Is that possible to get the reports designed at Financial Reporting Studio to import into another machine?
I'm asking this because I ain't able to access this machine anymore. So, did an other machine, but now, with a new database, with no reports =)
    Thanks.

I know that there is a report migration tool as we used it when we went from 7.2.5 to 9.3.1. I'm not 100% if you can make use of it as a simple 'copy' tool (i.e. copying same software version reports from one server to the next or if it only works in a specific upgrade capacity); however, I would start on that route first.
I think the road block you will hit there; however, is that I think the environment would need to be up and running for this utility to work.
If that is the case, the manual route is ugly. As I've talked about in a prevoius post, reports (since system 9) are scattered in a couple different pieces. In the Workspace database, you will find information that ties a UUID (Unique Identifier) to a 'Friendly Name'. In the file system of your server running the RM web application, you will find the actual report files. The files / folders for the reports are not human friendly; therefore, you need the DB to fix the names. The other issue you have here is the database connection for the reports. When you create a database connection it also gets a generated Unique ID value which is stored in the reports. If that ID does not exist in the target system, you need to update all of the reports; otherwise, they will not work correctly.
If I HAD to do this manually (i.e. old workspace isn't operational so I can't export), here's what I would do ..........
------- WARNING ------------ I don't think anyone here is going to approve of this method and I really don't either, but ....................
    "Old System" to "New System"
#1 - New System --> create your database connection(s), preferably with same name(s) as previous environment
#2 - Old --> Locate naming information in Workspace database tables (If you don't know where this is, find a previous post I put out on reports and the database where I explain this)
#3 - Old --> Locate the physical files / directories (See previous post on subject)
#4 - Old --> Find at least ONE report for EACH database connection used in the old system. Open the file(s) in notepad and locate the connection ID. (NOTE : Files are compressed so get something like 7zip to get into them)
#5 - New --> Open the Workspace database, locate the database connection information. For each connection you have created, update the ID to correspond to the ID found in the reports.
At this point, we have a couple of different options......
Option 1 - Create your own export archive
Now that you know where all of the old reports are and you know the proper naming of the reports, you can make your own export archive which you can then import into the new environment. The structure of the 7zip archive would be something like this
    ReportExtract.7z
(null) Folder --> This would correspond to your Root folder in Workspace
My Report Folder 1 --> Your workspace stuff here
My Report Folder 2 --> Etc.
The import thing to recognize here is that when you first open the 7z file, you have to have that NULL folder; otherwise, this doesn't work. I'm not sure how to create such a null folder, so what I normally do is create an extract file using the Workspace Export option and then use 7zip to alter the archive to include what I really want ....
#1 - Old --> Fix names. Using the information from the workspace database write a quick script to traverse the file / folder structure and renaming all folders and files so that they have the friendly name.
#2 - Old --> For the files that were just renamed, uncompress them. This can be accomplished with a bat file script as well.
#3 - New --> Go to File Export and choose the highest folder you can and export all items. Save the file somewhere handy as you're going ot need this right away.
#4 - Old --> Open the archive with 7zip. You will see a folder with no name, double click on it. Now you should see the beginning of your report structure (if you have one on the new environment....)
#5 - Old --> Using windows explorer, DRAG and DROP the folders/files from steps #1/#2 into the 7zip window. 7zip will then add those folders/files to the report archive we created.
#6 New --> Login to workspace and select the File, Import option. Proceed to use the archive created previously. If everything is done correctly, the reports will pull in and you will be good to go at this point. (OTHER THAN SECURITY)
Option 2 - Manually Copy Files/Folders and Database entries
While in theory this is slightly quicker, I've never attempted so I won't say for fact this will work. I would probably only recommend trying this is the old and new machines are running the SAME version of software AND the new machine has nothing added to it yet.....
#1 - Locate RM1 service folder and copy all files/folders to new server's RM folder
#2 - Locate the old database tables related to report files/folders/permissions/data connections and copy data into new database tables.

  • Entering textual data in Hyperion Financial Reports on client side

Our comapny is using Financial Reporting studio tool for reports. Reports are made by the Hyperion administrator and users only can view/read reports through Workspace service. Currently we need that users can put some text into the reports themselves. Can anyone advice some idea on this issue? The version of products we use is 9.3.1

I think this is impossible because of the nature of reporting. When create a financial report grid it prompts you for a login to connect to an essbase/planning app. the majority of the time you are going to enter the credentials of an administrator or a designated dummy report user that has access to query all data.
When a user runs the report, it is this data connection user's rights that will obtain the data. Reporting will not know the security of the planning users based on dimension security roles.

  • Using Planning vs Essbase connection in financial reports

What are the pros/cons of using an essbase connection for financial reporting vs using a planning connection? we are on 9.2.1. using the Financial reporting studio client. These are basic financial reports-cost center expense reports, income statement, revenue analysis, etc.
I notice that when I use a planning connection, I cannot select any attribute dimensions in my financial report.
Also, are there any differences in the security used with a planning connection vs an essbase connection
    Thanks
    Jeff

-- "I notice that when I use a planning connection, I cannot select any attribute dimensions in my financial report."
you can select any attribute (see WorkSpace->File->Properties->Financial Reporting...)
-- "Also, are there any differences in the security used with a planning connection vs an essbase connection"
    there are not big differences.
We use planning for most of our reports. If report is very big (many rows or lines) we use financial report.

  • Error: This entry already exists in the Financial Report Table OFRT..

    Hi ,
The above error appears only when we try to create any kind of templates in the database.
Last time this error appeared when trying to create Profit and Loss Statement using Financial Report Templates.
As a result i had to use copy express to copy over the template from one database to another.
    This solved the issue.
But now on trying to create a cost center hierarchy, (template to design profit center) we face the same error as mentioned in the subject line.
    What could be the reason?
I tried to create a new financial report template as well, it prompts for the same error.
    Kindly revert with your comments.
    Regards.

  • Financial Reporting Studio - Grid POV

I have a report running from HFM (9.3.1.3.0.2176) using Financial Reporting Studio (9 9.3.1.0.0.0325) where I have restricted the Grid POV to 'Select members from a list' on Accounts.
When I run the report as an HTML from within Reporting Studio or workspace, a box appears entitled 'Preview user POV' with 'This report/book will run for the members on the user point of view listed below' with a selection box that when clicked only shows the accounts I defined in the list.
However, when the report is run from Workspace (9.1.1.0.0.248) by any other user then the accounts are not restricted.
Can I make the accounts restricted to the list for ONLY this report for all users without impacting any other reports and if so, please can you explain how?
    Thanks in advance
PS I also restricted User POV in the vain hope that it would make a difference but no :-(

Select the grid. You will grid POV checked in right side properties window. Uncheck that.

  • Hyperion Web Analysis vs Financial Reports

    Hi All,
Can you pls. let me know what are the major differences between Hyperion Financial Reports and Hyperion Web Analysis ? For Planning application we generally use Financial Reports right ? Can't we use Hyperion Web Analysis ? What are the advantages & disadvantages of both FR & Web Analysis tools
    Thanks,
    PVR

In a nut shell Hyperion Web Analysis is useful for reports having user drill downs. The end users will have the capability to drill down and select member from different Point of Views.
Financial Reports can be used for regulatory reporting and reports in standard format.
You can create reports in both Financial Reports and Web Analysis from Planning based on your requirement.
Please read the documentation for more information on the differences between the two products.

  • Essbase connection - POV in Financial Reporting prompts missing

    Hi,
I'm connecting to Essbase using Financial Reporting, this report has 3 POV's. When I go to Workspace and run that report, I only see one POV. When log in as someone else, I see the 3 POV's expected. Does anyone ever encountered this? Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I had a similiar problem, but really not sure how close it is compared to yours.
My issue was, for a old report,I had 3 "user point of view" dimensions set up, but when I ran them on workspace, I had none of the user POV prompts coming up for selection. I identified that, the user point of view isn't working or not recognized by the report. so below is what i did to get them to work.
    1. Navigated to "Dimension Layout" and moved the "user point of view" dimensions to "Pages". Saved it.
2.Then again reverted back the same dimension back to "user point of view" dimension.[Just did this to get rid of the report memory having the user point of view dimensions]
3.Unchecked Grid point of view [Incase if it is checked]
4.Navigated to Task->User Point of View, and for the 3 dimensions in the user point of view, select "Member from List" and for each dimension give more than one selection[ :) ], like sample below.
Dimension: report viewers may select Choices List
    Hsp_Audits A Member from List Hsp_Rate_InputValue, Hsp_Rate_USD
Save the report, Try running the report from Workspace. This way i got all my user point of view prompts while running them in workspace.
    Thanks,
    Leo Jose.

  • Financial Reporting 11.1.2.1 Text Funciton

    Hi all,
I am using Financial Reporting 11.1.2.1, and I found that when I use Text Function such as <<ReportName()>> and write some Chinese characters in the same text box, the report will show "invalid arguments" error. But if I use text function with English letters, the text function can work without any errors. Is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jerry

    Hi Mehmet,
Thank you for your response. Sorry I forgot to mention that we were connecting to Planning, not Essbase. I recalled that this problem doesn't exist in the FR 9.1, but for some reasons it happened in FR 11.1.2. I will check the link you provided to see if there is any connection.
By the way, do you happen to know if it's possible to separate the page filters defined in the FR? For example, I would like to have Year and Period as two different filters, not combined as one showing FY12-Jan, FY12-Feb...etc. Thank you in advance!

  • No sync between Financial Report Studio repository and planning

    Hi,
I have a problem in Hyperion Planning 11.1.3 when I am trying to open reports that are either in Explorer or in a task list linked by a smartcut. An error (#2108) occured saying that the object I am trying to open is not in the repository. I am using Financial Report Studio 11.1.1.3. to create reports.
Does anyone have an idea of why I am getting that error?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
This is a known issue and there is no solution yet as far as I'm aware. It happens when you open a report using different user names on the same PC.
The solution is this, log off from workspace, clean internet explorer caches (including temp files). shut down internet explorer and try openning the report again from workspace.
Obviously, you need to repeat this steps everytime you face the issue.
    Cheers,
    Alp

  • Adhoc Reporting: Webanalysis vs Financial Reporting Studio

    Hi,
Our client is using Hyperion Planning 9.3.0.1 and currently the business users use Financial Reporting Studio for adhoc reporting. I am wondering if they can use Web Analysis to do this? Are there any performance issues if many users are using Webanalysis at the same time? Is there anything else that I need to keep in mind before advising the client?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Amol
    Edited by: user638718 on Apr 7, 2009 5:28 PM

    Hi,
Web Analysis is definitely aimed more towards adhoc reporting, it is just general adhoc reporting you can also use the excel addin and smartview.
I take it you are already licensed to use web analysis ?
Performance well that all depends on the load that is going to be put on the server, specs of machines, amount of concurrent users etc

  • Financial Reports and Essbase Dimenisons

    Hi,
I am new to Hyperion. We are working on static reports using Financial Reports. Currently we have 122 static reports.
But now the application requires adding new dimension to the Essbase schema. Will adding new dimensions affect all the existing reports? I mean will it require to redevelop all the reports? It will be a great amount of work and downtime will affect our production.
    Will appreciate help on this.
    Thanks,
    KK

But now the application requires adding new dimension
to the Essbase schema. Will adding new dimensions
affect all the existing reports?I don't use the Hyperion Reports product but have used Essbase for about 12 years. Anytime you add a dimension to an Essbase database, you will have work to do on the reporting side as Essbase essentially stores data at the 'intersection' of a member from each dimension in the database. At the least, you will have to add the dimension member to the report.
There is, however, one exception to the rule and that is if the dimension you add is an 'attribute' dimension. Attribute dimensions are treated as 'optional' dimensions for reporting and thus, if the dimension you added is an attribute dimension, you should not have to modify your reports.

  • Month, QTD, YTD in prompts - Financial Reporting Studio

    Hi All,
We developed a report (source: Essbase) using Financial Reporting Studio. We used a prompt for Period Dimension and used all the months in the choices list. We have a new requirement to pull QTD and YTD of the months to the prompt list.
We have used QTD and YTD from the functions list but while running the report from workspace, it is showing in the user selection list as Month instead of QTD of month or YTD of month (QTD of Feb/YTD of Feb).
Please suggest if someone worked on the similar case.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ravi

We have created a Y2D member for our Time Period dimension that may fit your needs:
    IF (@ISACCTYPE(FIRST)) JAN; ELSEIF (@ISACCTYPE(LAST)) &CurrMth; ELSE @SUM(JAN:&CurrMth); ENDIF
    We also have a Q2D member: IF (@ISACCTYPE(FIRST)) &Qtr_St_Mth; ELSEIF (@ISACCTYPE(LAST)) &CurrMth; ELSE @SUM(&Qtr_St_Mth:&CurrMth); ENDIF

  • Data src Financial Reporting studio

Hi i'm a BO guy and new to hyperion. My doubt is if i have a fact table and a couple of dimensions as oracle data structures, can i create a connection to oracle and import tables to create a report in Frinancial reporting studio ?
will it work this way in hypern?
If possible pls list some highlevel points on the procedure.

You will want to use Interactive Reporting to work with Relational Data
A more laborsome approach is to port the data into Essbase through Analytic Integration Services then use Financial Reports to query the Essbase Cube.
