Eo association,View Link

hi,
please explain Eo association,View Link and in what situation they are used with an example
Regards,
Pk

Shay,
Thank you for your reply. I will take a look at your links.
Use Case:
Application will have different BC for different IT Assets (like Monitor, Keyboard, Servers etc), which will basically hold records for all available Assets (like Display Resolution, screen size etc for all monitor in Monitor BC).
I want to give user; the ability to create, for e.g., the sub-class of Monitor to store more specific attribute-values in different table (which will be linked Parent BC). For e.g.: They may want to care about holding CRT and LCD Monitor records in separate new database table -- Application will ask user what all attributes/Columns they want to see for LCD which is specific to this type AND which is not present in already existing out-of-box Monitor BC/Table - e.g. - "Viewing Angle" Attribute).
With that said, I can write code to create database table on fly (having 1-to-1 foreign key reference to parent table) but writing ADF part seems difficult. I also wanted application to automatically generate new page for newly added VO BC. E.g.: LCD-Monitor.JSPX inheriting all attributes from monitor (parent VO) in the same structure as Monitor.JSPX file is having with extra LCD-specific Attributes in separate panel tab (which again UI developers can customized it).
Too much to expect huh !
I am going to start building the application so If not above way, any other suggestion to achieve the requirement ?

  • [ADF-11.1.2] Dynamic EO/VO/Association/View Link/pagedef/JSPX XML Def files

I though I found gold but it has nothing when I clicked on it.
Steve Muench's "Not Yet Documented Examples" [http://blogs.oracle.com/smuenchadf/resource/examples] > "Using ViewObject writeXML and JSTL XML Tag Library" suppose to provide the example. but I am getting File not found error. Seems the sample application doesn't exists any more.
Please point me to correct example for my following use case:
    At Run-time:
    1. My Application will ask user for database table name.
    2. for provided database table name, my application should Generate XML Definition file for EO, Associations, VO and View Links inside Model Project (basically all definition file should be created which gets created when developer create these Business Components for database table through JDeveloper Studio).
    3. Once done, application should also generate JSPX file using ADF page template in ViewController Project, with binding definition to it's corresponding newly generated VO Objects from step 2.
    4. The page will be then, visible to user to use it (create/update/delete records)
First of all, is it possible to achieve above requirement ? Based on description of Steve Muench's "Using ViewObject writeXML and JSTL XML Tag Library", I think it is possible, but I don't have the sample application to refer.
I could have used dynamic view object concept to display the records with basic page layout. But I want users the ability to modify the create/records/delete the records with following requirements:
    1. If require, Business Logic Developer can use Jdeveloper Studio to access new generated Business Components and modify it (like adding some validation rules)
    2. If require, UI Developer can access newly generated JSPX file and change the layout.
Please let me know how much and how can I achieve it ?

  • View Link Editor Issue - empty query clause if based on association

    JDeveloper 10.1.2
    Setup:
    - entities A and B
    - a 1 to * association from entity A to entity B (A_B_association)
    - a view of A based on entity A (AView)
    - a view of B based on entity B (BView)
    - BView has an expert mode query
Create a view link from table A to table B:
    - choose the A_B_association under AView for the source attribute
    - choose the A_B_association under BView for the destination attribute
    - click add
    - click next
issue: the query clause is empty
    - click next:
    info dialog pops up;
    title = "Business Components"
message = "Restoring the default where clause."
Note, however, that creating a view link based on the attributes works. That is, if I choose the primary key attribute under AView for the source attribute, and the corresponding foreign key attribute under BView for the destination attribute, then the wizard generates the expected query clause.
If I create a new project and recreate the entities, the views, and the association, then I can successfully create a view link based on the association. The foreignKey value on the association end was different in the new association XML file.  I modifed the old XML file so that it used the same foreignKey element, but that did not seem to work.
I am guessing that this is some sort of user error on my part or that we have otherwise managed to squat up our XML files.
Any tips, hints, or ideas appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    The problem is in AView.
We had modified the AView at one point, then reverted it to a default view of entity A. Here, "a default view" means that we undid our custom changes (apparently not thoroughly enough); that is, we did not delete it and create a default view from scratch using the contextual menu on the A entity.
The bottom line is that the AView attributes were not being mapped to the entity -- they were showing up as calculated attributes.
We created a "New Default View Object..." from the contextual menu of entity A, then manually corrected the AView.xml file to solve the problem.

  • View links / Associations best practices

    Hello,
I have a little question on how to use view links and associations in an optimal way.
    The situation is the following:
I have 2 tables: one master and one detail, I have therefore the following default classes:
    Entities: MasterImpl, DetailImpl,
    Views: MasterViewImpl, MasterViewRowImpl,
    View Rows: DetailViewImpl, DetailViewRowImpl,
    Association: FkMasterHasDetailAssoc
    View Link: FkMasterHasDetailLink
I also hav an application module which I can use as a container faor all these.
I need to process a series of rows from the Master view. Of course the process includes screening the corresponding detail rows.
I'd like to know which one of the following solutions will give the best results in terms of performance, or maybe there is no difference:
1/ Write a process() method in the MasterViewRowImpl view Row class, which uses the view link to retrieve the corresponding detail View rows. Then loop through the MasterView, calling process() on each row.
2/ Write a process() method in the MasterImpl Entity class, which uses the Association's RowIterator to retrieve the corresponding detail entities. Then loop through the MasterView, calling process() on each row's underlying entity.
3/ Include both views, linked by the view link, in the application module and implement a AppMod.process() method which loops through the MasterView and the DetailView.
Which one will make best use of the resources, or execute the smallest number of queries? Or maybe there will be no difference at all?
Thanks in advance for any answer

    KeepItSimple,Stupid!
That is, just because there are neat things like drop-down
text, marquees, and such, doesn't mean you should use them.
Stick to the basic HTML fonts and colors (use the
    w3schools web site for all
    things HTML and CSS.
Instead of styles, create your lists by selecting Normal
paragraphs and formatting with the Bullet and Number toolbar
    buttons.
Keep your tables as simple as possible (try not to nest them
and have all sorts of row and column spans, and try to avoid lists
and figures, if you can). Also, break up very long tables into
    functional groupings with introductory headings.

  • View Links and Associations

    hi all,
What is the difference between view links which is based on associations and view links which is not based on associations?
    yours,
    Bassam

    Hi,
associations is what you can use on the EO to resolve a relation between two EntityObjects. You can e.g use this in code to access parent or detail information.
ViewLinks provide you the same on the ViewObject layer. You can base a ViewLink on an association in which case you don't need to know about what actually the relation is build upon.

I created a static view object called StaticDepartments with the data from the DEPT table, but typed in statically.
I created a normal, entity-based EmpView VO over an Emp EO.
I created a 1-to-* view link between StaticDepartments and EmpView based on the Deptno attribute.
I added the master/detail to the AM's data model and tested, and it worked ok.
What's different about the way you're creating the view link here?

  • View objects, view links, does not search properly

    Hi,
    I am using Jdev 11.1.2.0
I have created a search criteria based on view objects and view links. It has entities and entity associations as base. The structure is as follow:
    vo1 ->vl (1 to 1) - > vo2
    ->vl ( 1 to many) -> vo3
Any search attribute which is not from vo1 return bad result. It happens in running app module and in the jspx page. In app module, it sometimes complains about populating the wrong attribute for the named criteria.
The search criteria is using "exists" statement for vo2 and vo3 for adding the conditions. It has many attributes within the exist statement.
So what is the problem. Why it does not join properly? Why does it return bad result when search attribute is from vo2 and vo3? Please help.
Any more information requires to solve the problem?
    Thanks,
    Arthur

    Hi,
Two more information: vo1 is composed of Entity1 (1..M) Entity2 and Entity1 (1..1) Entity 3. vo2 is composed of Entity 2 and vo3 is composed of Entity 4.
I follow the information from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E16162_01/web.1112/e16182/bcquerying.htm#BCGIFHHF
    to create the search criteria.

  • Bug in View Link editor

When creating a many-to-many view link based on a many-to-many association, the view object on the left must be based on the entity that was on the left when creating the association. Why is this? Surely it shouldn't matter.

    Just to add to this:
If the view object on the left of the link is not based on the entity that was on the left when creating the underlying association then the accessors for the association will not be visible under the view in the link editor.

  • Associations and Links does not load when creating Business Components

    Hi guys,
I am having a problem when I create my business components from table. Let's say that I start a new fusion web application. I then create my business components, enter the proper database connection settings. After everything is done, I am only getting my entities and my views, without any associations and links.
The thing is that it worked the first time. Everything loaded as it should. I then asked a collegue of mine to try on his computer. Surprise, everything loads perfectly just like it did the first time I did it.
I then tried on one of my linux virtual machine, via the same PC that I am having the problem. Again, the same problem, even if this is another JDeveloper instance (vm).
I have read the thread 2187263 that mentions to re-create the DB connection. Again, it is not working.
Associations and View Links missing in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.1.4
I saw this under the "Messages - Log" tab in JDeveloper :

    SEVERE: 3F794B56 Throwing SQLException: 3
    Aug 7, 2012 11:09:06 AM oracle.jdbc.driver
SEVERE: 6C9DD8BE Throwing SQLException: ORA-00936: missing expression
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.
Any help would do, since I do not want to uninstall JDeveloper and reinstall it again and again...

Yes. In SQL Developer, when I click "Modify" on one of my tables, and then on "Foreign Keys", I can see them all.
Like I said, it worked on a different workstation, and it worked before on my computer.

  • Need a how to on a special case for views and view links

I have a typical many-to-many relationship model I'm working on.
    Basically, it looks like this:
    User 1 -------------< * UserGroupXref *>--------------- 1 Groups
You see this in authentication modules all the time. A user can belong to multiple groups and group can contain multiple users.
My task is to use Business Components to create a form that manages user accounts. This form will consist of a User View (master) and 2 detail views.
The first detail view is a list of groups already assigned to the user. I've already defined a viewlink for this first group and it displays its many-to-many results ok.
The second detail view is a list of groups that are available to be assigned to the user. I was thinking that this detail view should be the product of a MINUS operation driven by a BIND VARIABLE. Being a query based view, I think its query would look something like this:
    select group_id, group_short_name, group_long_name
    from groups
    minus
    select xref.group_id group_id , group_short_name, group_long_name
    from usergroupxref xref, groups
    where xref.user_id = :bind_uid
    and groups.group_id = xref.group_id
This introduces a bind variable which raises two questions:
    1) Is there a better approach
    2) How do you use a friggin bind variable?
Seriously, I noticed that the designer will not let you define a relationship based on a bind variable, which leads me to conclude that you have to pass the value at runtime from whatever client app you're using (SWING, JSF, etc). I really haven't found an example of using bind variables that suites me! Maybe someone can point me in the right direction ...?
Finally I have to add control buttons :
    Add Group
    Add All
    Remove All
    Remove Group
Naturally these buttons control the inserts and deletes from the xref table. Does this introduce another updateable view into the app or is it something that the framework somehow handles via the defined associations and what not?
I don't expect anyone to design the form for me, but maybe you can help me at least finish up these view links.
    Thanks much!

  • 10g Preview: No way to rename view link usages in AM

    10g Preview (9.0.5.0.0 Build 1375), Win2k SP3.
I generated the entity objects, view objects, associations, and view links from my DB structure. I created an application module with the default data model from the view objects and view links.
I then renamed all of the view links using the Rename View Link dialog. The AM's xml file was correctly updated with the new names of the underlying view links, but the view link usages retained the old names.
There does not appear to be a convenient way of renaming the view link usages in the AM. The workarounds are either to deconstruct the data model and then reconstruct it, or to manually edit the .java and .xml files.
I would like to see, at minimum, the ability to rename the AM's usages via a right-click menu in the Structure pane. This would affect both view object and view link usages. Currently the only option available in the right-click menu is to edit the underlying business object, not the usage. It also would make sense to allow view link usages to be renamed from the Data Model page of the AM wizard.

That worked beautifully. I didn't have the property inspector open originally, so it's nice to know there is a way to rename usages after all.
I wonder if there's a usability issue here though... maybe it's just me, but with the ability to rename some things via the right-click menu in the navigator pane, it seemed natural to look in the very similar structure pane for the same sort of functionality. Now there's a third place to look. Perhaps if the right-click menu in the structure pane simply had a "Properties..." entry or something similar that brought focus to the Property Inspector, it would help the user understand that there's another place to try to make the desired changes.

  • View Link Bug!  - JDEV Developers please read.

This has to be a bug. When I am done with my project for the day I check in the files into PVCS. After check in the files are deleted off my local drive. When I recheck out my project and do a rebuild on the project, I get several View link XML files that say that they are not correct. However when I pull them up in the editor and relink them, there is NO CHANGE to the XML file that stores the DEF. Below is a sample of one of the files. If I go into this view link with the visual editor and reselect the linking nodes, all is fine in JDEV.
Is this a bug that is being worked on for the next version?

  • TP4 ADF BC [BUG] view link are not updated after database synchronization

I have a table with a recursive relationship.
By mystake, I created a recursive foreign key for the same attribute (deptid->deptid instead of deptid->parentdeptid).
I generated entity, view and application module from this schema.
When compiling, errors was produced indicating the problem.
I corrected the problem in offline database, generate the changes into the database successfully.
I ask to synchronize the entity with the database, the changes was identified correctly and a new association was created.
First remark: the old one still there and it was necessary to delete it and rename the new generated one (to be consistent with other name). May be an option to overwriting the old one will be more pleasant, may be asking if the new one has to replace an existing one and show a list of existing ones.
Regenerating the association was correct and one error was removed when compiling again. The error on the view link still there.
I would like to delete the assoc and recreate it from the entity assoc but it was not possible easily because the view link is used in the application module !!!!
It will be nice to permit to regenerate an existing view link from an entity association without deleting it.
May be it is a better way to synchronize ? I would be very interesting to know how to achieve it as the best !

Was the inability to have the synchronization remove the key specific to the existing association's being self-referential, or if your initial association was from DeptId to some other attribute (which you then corrected) would the synchronize have fixed the problem?
The simplest way to achieve what you want given existing features would be to have delete the view link instance, view link, and association, follow by resynchronizing (I believe), then recreating the viewlink and adding back the view link instance.

  • View Objects Fetch depth with View Links while creating Service Data Object

    Hi ,
I am trying to create SDO's for my Business components.
Here are my Entities & relations :
    Entity Objects : 1) EmployeeEo 2) DepartmentEO 3) PropertyEO
And corresponding View Objects 1) EmployeeVO 2) DepartmentVO 3) PropertyVO.
Associations : Employee -> Dept (m:1) , Employee -> Property (1:M) , And corresponding View Links as well.
When i expose the VO's in AM like :
DepartmentVO, with EmployeeVO from dept_emp_view link => This fetches all the data from Dept-> Employees -> Property
However i don't want the tree fetch to be like that , i want to have my fetch restricted to only one level ie Dept-> Employees
and a different fetch for Employees -> Property .
    Please suggest.
    Thanks !!

Was able to do it by extending VO

  • ADF Navigation List  and View Links . any tutorial for this subject ?

    Hi
Its two day that i am looking in oracle web site and tutorials that are provided in oracled ADF books.
but i can not figure it out how i can user a Navigation List , view Link to insert record in a child table.
so far i just could create a page that when i change the Navigation List selected item and then refresh that page , the related Fields of child table filled with master table PK.
although i cheched and i saw that ComboBox (Navigation List) auto submit is true.
does any one has a clue about this ?
    Thanks

    Timo,
Thanks for your reply but there is lot of headache, human errors in removing such VO and associations.
    Jobinesh,
I am doing exactly what is described in here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/mysql-and-bc-howto-082060.html
    Expected Behaviour:
    1. Create Following Association and VL, which is working fine.
    PeopleCompanyFkAssoc1 and PeopleCompanyFkAsoc1Link >> 0..1 to * Cardinality Between Company.CompanyID and People.CompanyID
    2. Do NOT Create any other non sense Association and VL, but it is creating
    PeopleCompanyFkAssoc and PeopleCompanyFkLink >> 0..1 to * Cardinality Between People.PeopleID and People.CompanyID
What's the relationship between PeopleID and CompanyID ?
