[ERROR]adding another JVM to OC4J instance

Hi gurus,
I had this following configuration on my opmn.xml,
<restart timeout="720" retry="2"/>
<port id="default-web-site" range="8890" protocol="http"/>
<port id="rmi" range="12401-12500"/>
<port id="rmis" range="12701-12800"/>
<port id="jms" range="12601-12700"/>
<process-set id="solusiAS2_group" numprocs="1"/>
</process-type>
and then i modified the numprocs, so that i can run multiple JVM.
<restart timeout="720" retry="2"/>
<port id="default-web-site" range="8890" protocol="http"/>
<port id="rmi" range="12401-12500"/>
<port id="rmis" range="12701-12800"/>
<port id="jms" range="12601-12700"/>
<process-set id="solusiAS2_group" numprocs="2"/>
</process-type>
but when i start the opmnctl gave me these following error,
[root@deployment ~]# /u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall

could you help me what's is wrong ? from i read on internet, only OAS 10.1.3.0 that doesn't support running multiple JVM. mine version is 10.1.3.1 patchset 10.1.3.3.
Many THanks,

As reported in the error message, there is a port conflict. It isn't able to allocate a free port (from the defined ranges) to this new JVM. You show having this:
<port id="default-web-site" range="8890" protocol="http"/>
It is good for one JVM but now that you will have two, this range needs to be expended. Try something like this:
<port id="default-web-site" range="8890-8899" protocol="http"/>
And try to start it again.
Hope this will resolve the problem.
Thanks

  • Javascript error when creating a new OC4J instance?

    Hi
    Im trying to deploy the documentum portlet, and a requirement was to install Ant, Java SDK....and i did
    after that...on my Application server machine (the portal), when i login to the enterprise manager to start a new OC4j instance, my browser shows a script error in the status bar in IE 6.0.
    it says: Object expected, ....and whenever i click "Create OC4j instance" the page is scrolled up to the top part of the page. so there is some kind of javascript error. how can i fix this? its stopping me from my development process.
    Your help is appreciated. thanks
    Faisal[b]

    On Windows this is caused most often by the temporary directory setting.
    Change the temporary directory to some fixed directory writable by anybody, e.g. "C:\temp".
    Change this in:
    Registry entry: hkey_local_machine\software\oracle\key_<oashome>\REPORTS_TMP
    <oashome>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml: search for environment variable TEMP (under ias-instance)
    Good luck!

    Just ran into this exact same issue. We also resolved it by modifying our /etc/hosts.
    Our /etc/hosts used to have its hostname specified this way:
    123.123.123.12 hostname hostname.dom.com
    We changed the order to the last two items to this:
    123.123.123.12 hostname.dom.com hostname
    Apparently the services are instantiated using the fully-qualified hostname.

  • Deploy one Application per OC4J instance or multiple

    Hello,
    I have the following questions on deploying applications on OC4J:
    1. What is the best practice for deploying applications on OC4J?
    2. Should I deploy only One application per OC4J Instance or multiple applications per OC4J Instance.
    3. If I decide to deploy more then one application on one OC4J Instance, for this OC4J Instance, should I increase default_island property to add the number of processes within an OC4J Instance
    Thanks,
    Manish

    You really should read the 9iAS Performance and Tuning Guide. There is no specific recommendation. It is
    highly dependent on your specific applications.
    You can deploy more than one application per OC4J instance and if you have a high performance machine you will probably want to run more than one JVM per OC4J
    instance. If you are running applications which create sessions and replicate state across JVM's then
    you may want to create multiple islands to limit the scope of replication.

  • Error while installing OIM, during the OC4J Instance Configuration Assistan

    Hi, running RHEL 4 32Bit Linux. There's an installation of the SOA Suite 10.1.3.1 (Release 2) on /u01/app/oracle/OracleAS_1, and I am installing OIM on /u01/app/oracle/OraHome_2

  • EJB 3.0 Cache Issue With OC4J Instance With Multiple JVM's

    I created an EJB 3.0 project in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and everything works fine in the embedded OC4J server. I am deploying the application to an OC4J instance consisting of 3 Java Virtual Machines in Oracle Application server 10.1.3 and seem to be getting a different persistence context for each virtual machine. i.e. I'll have 3 browsers that can view the same data even after updating, another 2 browsers that can't see the first 3's changes but can see changes by any browser in this group, etc.
    I tried adding the below to the persistence-unit tag in the persistence.xml but it didn't seem to help.
    <properties>
    <property name="toplink.cache.shared.default" value="true"/>
    </properties>
    How do you get all connections to use the same cache?

    here is the code for my bean.
    package com.ups;
    import java.util.logging.Logger;

    System.out.println ("The onMessage() is called");
    } catch (JMSException e) {

    catch (Throwable th) {
    th.printStackTrace();
    public void ejbRemove( )throws EJBException{
         System.out.println("ejbRemove() is executed >>>>>>>");
    I have configured my JMS Distributed queue in the Weblogic.
    If possible please provide more details so that I can get rid of this error as soon as possible.

  • Cannot start OC4J instance - after java.lang.OutOfMemory errors

    Hi, I have successfully deployed an application (using Oracle Web Services, J2EE - EJB, TopLink ) to a new OC4J instance that we created. We use the OEM web site to manage the start/stop and deploy operations.
    Then we tried to run simultaneously 10 clients....against the server app... ran ok for a while and after approx. 5 to 10 min... java.lang.OutOfMemory errors were being thrown at the client.
    After a set of OutOfMemory errors, other clients received errors like the ones show below:

    Im not sure if this is due to a memory leak or something in my app ? Or does Oracle IAS / Toplink have any such issues for which any possible patches are available ?
    Could anyone please direct me in the possible right direction !
    Thanks,
    Krishna

    Hi,
    We have had this problem too, it only started after we deployed to production and got some load on our application server. We are using JRun as our application server.
    We found that Macromedia (JRun) already addressed the issue in general - that if you get java.lang.OutOfMemory errors, then you need to increase the heap size.
    Previously we had been using our own caching mechanism and never ran into this problem. Since we decided to go with TopLink (which has caching) we no longer use our own caching mechanism... but now we have this problem.
    We have chosen to use FullIdentityMap for caching, but didn't think we would run out of memory in the JVM. Is there a suggested or minimum JVM memory requirement to run TopLink?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Error while creating a connection from JDeveloper to OC4J instance on 9iAS

    I m trying to create a connection to the application server(9iAS release 2) from the JDeveloper(9.0.2.822) using the JDeveloper connection wizard. I followed all the steps, but when i click on "Test Connection" button to test the connection the error i get is "IO Error: Connection refused: connect". The description of the settings i provided in the wizard step are as follows,
    Step 1
    Connection name:- Connection1
    Connection Type:- Oracle 9i Application Server
    Step 2
    Username:- admin
    Password:- welcome
    Deploy Password checkbox: Unchecked
    Step 3 (the 9iAS server address is 192.168.30.162)
    URL:- ormi://192.168.30.162/
    Target Web Site:- http-web-site
    Local dir where admin.jar is installed for Oracle 9iAS is installed:- C:\ora9i_d2k\j2ee\home
    Step 4
    Test Connection: “IO Error: Connection refused: connect”
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Unmesh

    Hi,
    You cannot connect to an Oracle9iAS environment directly using the connections node. You can only connect to an individual OC4J instance using this technique.
    You need to use Oracle9iAS Distributed Management Configuration (DCM). See JDeveloper Help under Creating Application Server Connections

    And following while creating a new OC4J instance:

    According to google the OALL8 has something to do with the JDBC driver.
    Thanks in advance,

    Are you doing this using the EM GUI? Or using dcmctl?
    Either way, I'd try to remove the lk file that you had (no idea why that file was around - did you do multiple installs on the same box?)
    and then retry the operation.

  • Not able to run the forms -OC4J Instance Error

    Hi all,
    We are facing a problem, like in our developement server we have installed Forms 10g, and configured the formsweb.cfg(we had set the working folder as D:\Source) and default.env and registry also.
    While calling the form from the other machines/run the form from the forms builder itself, we are getting error like "RFB 003.008". The same error is coming while running the test form using the "Start->Programs->Oracle Developer Suit - >DevSuiteHome1->Forms Developer->Run a Form on the web" method also,

  • Calling a method in another JVM instance

    I know you can use RMI to call the methods from classes across the network, but if the class is on the same machine, just in another JVM instance, is there a way to bypass the network layer and have the JVMs communicate directly with each other?

    Its not so much the overhead, as having the
    flexibility, to not have to modify firewall rules
    which disallow loop back traffic and most other non
    http (port 80) traffic if the production server is
    set up that way.You're coding to interfaces anyway, have a factory return either an RMI object which does the actual RMI work, or just a vanilla one if you're just running locally. As far as I know, there isn't a way to entirely circumvent the socket layer with RMI. Anyone know any different?

  • Error when creating new oc4j-instance

    1.
    when i create a new oc4j-instance via EMWeb i get the following:
    The operation failed.. Instance: iasdb.test.xxx.ch Message: Keine Meldung für diese Exception definiert. Base Exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:nullKeine Meldung für diese Exception definiert.
    the german text means: no message defined for this exception.
    when i then refresh the website the oc4j-instance is created, but down.
    2.
    when i try to deploy an application to any OC4J-instance manually i get the following error:

Root Cause: D:\Oracle\9iAS\j2ee\OC4J_AA\config\.\default-web-site.xml (Das System kann den angegebenen Pfad nicht finden). where does this error come from?

    Hi Stefan -
    I'm not sure where this error comes from, I've never seen it. Particularly in German! ;-)
    I think the best way to get more information on this is to repost your message to the general 9iAS forum. I believe that there are people monitoring that forum who look afer the management console and who might be able to help you further.

  • Load balancing HTTP requests for an OC4J instance w/multiple JVMs

    Hello everyone,
    I am using OAS 10.1.3.1 and wish to load balance HTTP requests across an OC4J group of one or more OC4J instances, where each like named OC4J instance may have multiple JVMs or it may just have one JVM.
    My mod_oc4j.conf file would contain the following directives :
    Oc4jSelectMethod roundrobin:local
    Oc4jRoutingMode Static
    Oc4JMount /xyz/* xyz
    In the degenerate case, I would like to have an OC4J group with a cluster size of one, and have that one OC4J instance have two or more JVMs. I would like to be able to receive a request within my web application, determine that the JVM that has been sent the request is the wrong JVM to process the request, and then call HttpServletResponse.sendRedirect("/xyz"). Then, when the browser receives the HTTP 302 response and issues the subsequent HTTP request, have that request sent to a different JVM than the previous JVM that issued the sendRedirect().
    What I have seen is that the subsequent request is sent back to the same JVM that issued the sendRedirect(). I also call invalidate() against the HttpSession prior to calling sendRedirect(), but that does not seem to affect the behavior that I see.
    In the full blown case, I would have an OC4J group with a cluster size > 1, and each of those OC4J instances would have at least one JVM. In that case, I wish the sendRedirect() call to allow the subsequent request to be sent to any one of the OC4J instances in the group, and any one of those JVMs within all of those OC4J instances.
    Can anyone verify that my mod_oc4j mount directive is appropriate given the select method and routing mode? What else might I need to do to have a chance to have a different JVM respond to the request that results from a sendRedirect()?
    Thank you,
    Doug

    I should clarify that in the full blown environment, the OC4J instances that form a group will each be housed within a separate OAS instance that resides on its own machine.
    So ideally, a request could be inbound to say OAS instance 1 on machine A, OC4J instance AA, JVM 2, and I need to force a redirect so that the request can actually be serviced by OAS instance 3 on machine C, OC4J instance AA, JVM 1, and I need to be able to call sendRedirect() against an HttpServletResponse from within a JVM until the subsequent request from the browser, Internet Explorer in my case, is serviced by that JVM.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant Error on Install

    I'm installing iAS-903 on Red Hat 8.0. I managed to get through the linking parts OK but when I get to the Configuration Tools part at the end, I get an error with the OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant. Something about permissions.
    Has anybody seen this? Did anybody get by it?
    The relevant part of the error message is below.
    Starting OC4J instance 'OC4J_Demos'..done.
    Deploying application 'ojspdemos' to OC4J instance 'OC4J_Demos'...
    ERROR: Caught exception during deploy.
    java.io.IOException: Permission denied
         at java.io.UnixFileSystem.createFileExclusively(Native Method)

    I'm getting the same configuration error. I installed the ias 903 J2EE and Web Cache application. I also received a linking error (ins_sql.mk link error I believe). I fixed the link problem by removing the -z defs from LD_SELF_CONTAINED and rerunning genclntsh script.
    After installing 9ias, I can start oc4j_home and oc4j_demos without errors but I'm not sure if they are fully working.

  • Error in creating new OC4J instance

    Hi All,
    I am trying to Create a new OC4J Instance with the Help of "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g for Application Server Control" , but the following Error message is displayed.
    "Error:
    The configuration files for this Oracle Application Server instance are inconsistent with the

    . Please also check the logs located at
    ORACLE_HOME/dcm/logs to determine why DCM was unsuccessful in updating

    * permissions on files
    * file contention issues on Windows NT
    * internal Oracle error
    After resolving the problem that prevented DCM from updating the configuration
    files, you may use the dcmctl resyncInstance command to resolve the problem.
    Alternatively, you can stop and then restart the active dcmctl or EMD
    process and resyncInstance will automatically be performed."
    Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem and create a new OC4J instance?

    Hi Jason,
    Thanks for your help.
    I tried DCM tool but it is giving the same error. Is there any other tool to resolve this problem?
    Have you worked on Oracle Content Management SDK (Oracle CM SDK)?
    Actually, I am currently working on Oracle CM SDK. I have to dvelope an Content Management application (like WebstarterApplication which is provided)from scratch which can enable end user
    1. To browse through the documents in the repository.
    2. To open the documents form the repository itself.
    3. To edit and save the document in the place in the repository.
    I found that in WebstarterApplication (an CM SDK Application which is provided as demo), 1st and 2nd features are there but 3rd one is not.
    So, I am going to develope an application from scratch.
    Then is it necessary to create an OC4J Instance?
    Please suggest me what should be the steps to be followed to develope such an application from scratch.
    Thanks.
