Error creating Context Index

Hi,
Iam trying to create an context index in a table. After a logn run it gave an error. end-of-file on communication channel. How to resolve this error. And do i have any possibility to continue my index creation. How to recover it?
Urgent Help needed......
Thanks,
Sri

"End of file on communication channel" nearly always means the Oracle background process has crashed, which means either an Oracle bug or a hardware issue.
You would need to look at the database alert logs to get more information about the crash.
You probably won't be able to resume the indexing job from where it crashed, but will need to drop the index and recreate it.

  • Privileges require for a user to create CONTEXT indexes

    Hi all,
       RDBMS: 11.2.0.3
       SO.......: OEL 6.3
What are the necessary privileges that have to be granted to a user to be able to create CONTEXT Indexes, for example. I have granted the CTXAPP to my user, but when i tryied to create the CONTEXT Index with the command bellow, i got an "insufficient privilege" error message.
       CREATE INDEX USR_DOCS.IDX_CTX_TAB_DOCUMENTOS_01 ON USR_DOCS.TAB_DOCUMENTOS(DOCUMENTO) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS ('SYNC (ON COMMIT)');

It depends on whether the user is trying to create the index on his own table in his own schema or on somebody else's table in somebody else's schema.  The following demonstrates minimal privileges (quota could be smaller) for user usr_docs to create the index on his own table in his own schema and for my_user to create the index on usr_docs table in usr_docs schema.

  • Why I can't create ConText index?

    Hi everyone.

I create a table, insert a xml document into it, but I can't create ConText index

  • Rights issue when creating context index.

    Hi,
We have two users, "app" and "appsys" . with most permissions granted through roles.
"app" has just enough permissions for the application to run. No update/delete/etc on most tables, just select and (on a select few) insert rights.
"appsys" is the "crew" user, with enough rights for basic day-to-day administration and most upgrade scripts that come with new code releases.
Other than that, it's a pretty much default EE 11.2.0.1.0.
Therefore, my first preference was to have 'appsys' create the desired text index for use by 'app':
CREATE INDEX app.table_text_ix ON app.table (xml)
         INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT PARAMETERS('SYNC (EVERY "TRUNC(SYSDATE + 1) + 03/24") TRANSACTIONAL');
    Have also tried the bare:
CREATE INDEX app.table_text_ix ON app.table (xml)
         INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT;
    Both give the same result:
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:19

I've tried granting just about anything but the kitchen sink to either user, both direct and indirect, but it still won't let me. Even SYS seems to be missing something.
Or rather, I seem to be missing something. But what? I've read a few prior threads about this issue and tried most suggestions: still no go.
Things I've GRANTed, as per documentation:
    - CTXAPP role
    - execute on ctxsys.ctx_ddl
    - RESOURCE
    - CONNECT
Other privileges it already had OR that I've tried granting:
    EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE

    CREATE TABLE
    CREATE ANY TABLE
    ALTER ANY TABLE
    DROP ANY TABLE

    CREATE ANY TRIGGER
    CREATE TYPE
    CREATE OPERATOR
    CREATE INDEXTYPE
Have also tried the grant select on sys.all_users to public; solution from a previous thread.
So... I'm lost... what am I missing?

I don't know if what you have posted is pseudo-code or what you actually ran. Table is not a valid name for a table. It is best to post a copy and paste of an actual run from SQL*Plus, including line numbers and errors. I suggest that you start with a very simple example, avoiding reserve names like table and xml, just creating a simple text index on a table with a varchar2 column, as the same user that owns the table, checking everything along the way. Once you get that working, then you can add the other things one at a time. I have provided a script for you to run and post the results of below, followed by a run of the script on my system to show what you should get.
-- script for you to run from SQL*Plus and post a copy and paste of the results of:

  • Creating context index on blob-field

I'm running Oracle 8.1.6 on Suse Linux 6.4.
Trying to create an database via dbassist or dbassist created skripts
will fail, if try to include interMedia.
So used the possibility to copy a sample datebase from CD.
Who knows about a Solution for this?
So configured listener.ora und tnsnames.ora to use external procedures.
Creating an user with cxtapp-role works.
    Creating ctx preferences works.
    But.......
Creating an index on blob field will fail.
    The Error Message tells :

Funny, there is no directory $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/bin
and there there is no ctxhx anywhere!
    Reinstalling InterMedia will not help.
Are there no Filters within the Linux-Release?
    Whats the problem like ?

I encountered similar problem running Oracle 8.1.6.on Windows 2000 Prof. I created and then populated a table, by indexing one of the CLOB columns I got following error messages:
Create index system.AI on Tabel1(Text5) indextype is ctxsys.context

The error message tell me that something is not supported for German text so the indexing fails. Does it mean there is no German support in IMT? Does somebody know what's wrong? Any workaround & Where to look at? Thanks.

    Hi Andre,
when you have the possibilty to use an 8.1.7 then do this,
because Intermedia Text works there better.
For your problem, please set your own preferences and try again:

    exec CTX_DDL.create_preference('MY_LEXER','BASIC_LEXER');
    exec CTX_DDL.set_attribute('MY_LEXER','ALTERNATE_SPELLING',

Set your client NLS_LANG to the same value as on your database. your database might run with "NLS_LANG=american_america.we8iso8859p1".
If you want to use german stopwords etc. lokk at the script "drdefd.sql". Replace all "DEFAULT_" settings with your keyword (e.g. "GERMAN_"). Run the script. Now you can create a index with german parameters:
    create index a on b(c)
    indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters ('lexer ctxsys.german_lexer stoplist ctxsys.german_stoplist wordlist ctxsys.german_wordlist')

The temp files should get deleted after each file is processed.
"Forever" is meaningless. How long does it take, and for how many documents? Text indexes do take a long time to create - can be measured in days in some situations.
The errors you're seeing in ctx_user_index_errors are probably caused by damaged documents - files that the filter thinks it recognizes, but then fails to process according to the expected layout for those documents. If there are only a few of these, then I wouldn't worry too much - if there are lots (> 1% of your total, perhaps) then it's definitely worth investigating further.
Scanned documents stored as images (jpegs, tiffs, etc) cannot be indexed. Generally the filters should recognize and skip such documents without errors.

I will apreciate any help. Thanks.

    This is very bad:
    CREATE INDEX IX_SPATIAL_011_GEO ON SYSTEM.E011_CIUDADES(F011_GEO)
INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX PARAMETERS ('tablespace=ASOUSU');It means you've stored spatial data in the SYSTEM user's schema, which, as noted, is mucho malo. Either that, or it is a typo and that is why you got: fallo al leer la vista USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA

  • ORA-29855 - Error creating Spatial Index using a Stored Procedure

    Hi
I am using Oracle 10gR2 database and I have written a stored procedure to create spatial index. But when i execute this function i get the following error message.

The tables that i am passing are registered in metadata and I am able to create indexes directly in sql plus. But when i try to create using this stored procedure, it fails.
it should be possible to create indexes using a generic function. Has any faced a similar problem?

  • Error creating Spatial Index - ORA-29855

I have a DB in 11g that I used SQL Developer to copy to my local machine, 10g installation. I copied the same kind of databases around a lot but this is the first time I'm getting this error, when creating the spatial index.
For this table I only copy the DDL and then run a .sql file with lot's of inserts and now I'm trying to create the spatial index.
    So I tried:
    CREATE INDEX location_spatial_idx ON location(locationcoordinates) INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;
    And got:
ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view
ORA-13203: failed to read USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD_10I", line 10
    My DB is:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Prod
I tried running the create index as SYSDBA with no luck.
select * from mdsys.sdo_index_metadata_table -> empty for this user owner
    select sdo_index_name from user_sdo_index_metadata -> empty
    SELECT * FROM SDO_INDEX_METADATA -> empty
So... any clue on what I'm doing wrong?

So... any clue on what I'm doing wrong?I would think that Oracle is quite clearly telling you what is wrong here: Your table is not in the metadata.
If you simply create the DDL for the table and create the insert statements from SQL Developer, it won't create the insert into user_sdo_geom_metadata....
And in order to create a spatial index, the table MUST be in the user_sdo_geom_metadata, whether you try to create the index as SYSDBA or as the owner of the table.

  • Error creating spatial indexes

    I'm using oracle 10g2.
I retrieve the following error message during spatial index creation:
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine
ORA-13249: internal error in Spatial index: [mdidxrbd]
ORA-13249: Error in Spatial index: index build failed
ORA-13236: internal error in R-tree processing: [failed to cluster in memory]
ORA-13232: failed to allocate memory during R-tree creation
ORA-13236: internal error in R-tree processing: [failed to allocate memory
    4387752 (mdrtsalloc)]
ORA-04031: unable to allocate ORA-04031: unable to allocate 4387800 bytes of
    shared memory ("large pool","unknown object","koh-kghu sessi","kpmalloc")
    bytes of shared memory ("","","","")
    ORA-06512: at "MDSYS.SDO_INDEX_METHOD_10I", line 10
I've already tried to increase memory, shared and large pool, actually I have the following settings:
    Shared pool 500
    Buffer cache 200
    Large pool 200
    Pool Java 20
I've already installed data and created spatial indexes on other machine correctly with the same data with less memory use, and I can't find any difference.
    Could anybody help me?

    Andre,
I didn't think the , and ; in the sdo_geom_metadata would be causing the problem because he indicated that he could build indexes on other data - I assume he uses the same diminfo values for these as well. But, one can never be too sure!
But certainly, follow what the error messages indicate.
The Oracle Error message manual says:
"ORA-13232: failed to allocate memory during R-tree creation
Cause: This feature assumes a minimum of 64K memory for bulk creation.
Action: Create the index for a small subset of the data. Then, use transactional insert operations for the rest of the data."
    The spatial manual says:
"Before you create a spatial index, be sure that the rollback segment size and the SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter value are adequate, as described in Section 4.1.1."
One way to change the sort area size is to alter your existing session before
executing the create index statement. So, from 4.1.1. this can be done via:
    ALTER SESSION SET SORT_AREA_SIZE = 20000000;
Also, do what Andre suggests. On my laptop with 1G of memory as a matter of course I change the SGA from the default to being much larger.
    regards

  • SDO_GEOM error creating spatial index

    Hi,
We are attempting to create a spatial index on column, GEOM, for a transit lines table but got the error "SDO_Geometry is not a valid column type for use in a text index". The source data is a shapefile. We used both FME and an Oracle conversion tool to convert the shapefiles into an Oracle table (both methods led to the same error). We also created the metadata and validated the geometry.
    Has anyone had this issue?
    Thanks,
    Renee

If you have issues, best is to copy also your sql statements and error messages to your post.
Have you tried creating your index with the following syntax?
    CREATE INDEX your_index_name ON your_table_name(geom)
    INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX
