Error deploying Sun j2ee tutorial
I want to see some JSF examples and tried to deploy simple WAR files from SUN. These are downloadable via http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download.html#tutorial
An example war file I tried is guesNumber.war.
If I deploy this in Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) it doesn't work - computer says no. Error : Unknown assembly root-tag attribute: xmlns

Run client execution problem when running Sun J2EE tutorial example
Hi,
I'm trying to run the Sun J2EE tutorial example, CartApp.
When come to run the client application I got the following error:
The command:
E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears>runclient -client CarApp.ear -name CartClient -textauth
The error:
Application threw an exception:java.io.IOException: CarApp.ear does not exist
The deployment complete without error.
I tried to the the APPCPATH to :
set APPCPATH=E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears\CartAppClient.jar
set APPCPATH=CartAppClient.jar
On both set, it gave the same error above.
Did someone known the problem I have ?
Thnakshi ,
I think u have given other disply name to your J2EE client ,
Anyway check disply name of J2EE client through deploytool.
u have to use that display name to access the j2ee client .
suppose ur j2ee client displyname is testclient, u can use:
runclient -client ConverterApp.ear -name testclient
hope this will help u,

J2EE tutorial - class not found....
Hi,
I'm working my way throught the sun J2ee tutorial. I've just tried to create a mini JSP app of my own with an imported JAR file from one of the tutorial examples. This JAR file can be used ok from the tutorial JSP files but not from mine, I get:
Class database.BookDB not found.
bookDB = (database.BookDB) java.beans.Beans.instantiate(this.getClass().getClassLoader(), "database.BookDB");class not found
All the fields and settings for my app in the deploytool match those on of the working example.
Has anybody got any suggestions or a list of things I can check?
Cheers for any help offered :)The JAR file should be present in the classpath. Make sure you are doing this.

thanks for supportHi,
Its a while since I used the J2EE 1.4, but I believe the j2ee.home should be set to your application server location
j2ee.home=c:/Sun/Appserver (if its installed at c:\sun\appserver)
the same goes for j2ee.tutorial.home, this property should be set to the location for the tutorial
I have not tested this, but this is what make sense for me.

J2EE tutorial (June 17 '04) servlet example compilation error
This is a copy of my previous post on the same topic, but this one has a more self-desriptive subject line. Apologies for duplication.
I am trying the first servlet example in the J2EE tutorial, June 17, 2004, pgs 443 - 448. I have completed all the steps as described. However, the URL results in the following error. I would like to point out that I am using the URL http://localhost:8081/bookstore1/bookstore (instead of port 8080 because the admin console suggests that port 8081 is an available http port):
Assistance would be appreciated.
HTTP Status 404 - /bookstore1/bookstore

Context startup failed due to previous errorsI had the same problem. It was caused by not including \j2eetutorial14\examples\web\bookstore\dist\bookstore.jar in the bookstore1.war. You may need to build the bookstore.jar file first if you havent already.

Hi, I am a beginner picking up J2EE with the online tutorial. I tried to deploy,run,clean,build the hello1 and hello2 tutorial but netbeans is giving me an error as shown:
C:\Documents and Settings\Smith\My Documents\javaeetutorial5\examples\web\hello2\build.xml:37: Cannot find ../../bp-project/main.xml imported from C:\Documents and Settings\Smith\My Documents\javaeetutorial5\examples\web\hello2\build.xml
Anyone can help me with this error? I googled for similar errors but i did not find anything that could help.
I am using netbeans 6.7.1 and JDK 6 update 14.
Any help greatly appreciated.You seem to have installed two versions of the J2EE application server and are running the 1.3 tutorial on the 1.4 server.
You have two choices. If you want to use the 1.3 tutorial, please see the following workaround for this error:
http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/doc/information/faq.html#compile
A better option would be to download the 1.4 tutorial to run on the 1.4 server:
http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/index.html -
I encountered a bug while using the deploytool to deploy
an EAR file to the Sun J2EE 1.3_01 server.
I submitted a bug report to Sun via the Sun Java Developer Connection.
(Sorry, it has not been assigned a BugID yet)
Question:
Does anybody know if the web container in Sun's
J2EE 1.3_01 server supports access to local enterprise beans?
Screenshots of the bug are available at
http://sync4j.sourceforge.net/deploymentbug/
Full details below....
-Sean
category: j2ee
subcategory: deployment
release: 1.3_01
hardware: x86
OSversion: windows_2000
synopsis: java.lang.ClassCastException thrown during deployment of Session bean
java -version
java version "1.3.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)
C:\j2sdkee1.3\bin>j2ee -version
Java 2 Enterprise Edition version 1.3_01, build 1.3_01-b01
I built a EJB 2.0 compliant stateful session bean.
The session bean has a remote interface (ISyncRemote),
a remote home interface (ISyncHomeRemote),
a local interface (ISyncLocal),
and a local home interface (ISyncHomeLocal).
I built an HTTP Servlet that is supposed to access
the Stateful Session Bean using ISyncHomeLocal and
ISyncLocal
I run "deploytool.bat" in GUI mode to perform the deployment.
During deployment, the deploytool GUI displays a message
box which states:
"There was a deployment error.
java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread;
nested exception is:
java.rmi.RemoteException: An error was encountered while loading
a web component.
Please refer to
<J2EE_HOME>/logs/<machine-name>/j2ee//j2ee/error.log
for more information. Please verify your Application with the
Verifier tool."
The "error.log" file did not contain any useful information.
I ran the J2EE "verifier.bat" tool to verify that my EAR archive is OK.
The Sun J2EE server output this error string:
"java.lang.ClassCastException:
com.sun.enterprise.deployment.EjbExternalDescriptor"
Here is the full output from the Sun J2EE server:

Does the Sun J2EE server implementation support the invocation
of Session EJB's via a Local interface?
Does the Sun J2EE server implementation allow a Servlet to invoke
Session EJB's via the bean's Local interface?
While researching this issue, I read the J2EE 1.3 final specification.
The spec says:
"The EJB container is required to access to local enterprise beans.
We recommend that the web container also support access to local
enterprise beans."
Does the web container in Sun's J2EE server support access to local enterprise beans?I'm pretty much sure that you cannot access a
local Session bean from outside the EJB container.Please read the J2EE 1.3 specification before posting messages about EJB and J2EE.
According to the J2EE 1.3 specification:
"The EJB container is required to support access to local enterprise beans. We recommend that the web container also support access to local enterprise beans.
No support is provided for access to local enterprise beans from the application client container or the applet container."
If you use local interfaces for your session bean,
than your client must be local too. A local client is
a client that is collocated in the same JVM with the
session/entity that provides the local view and which
can be tightly coupled to the bean.My client is running in the same JVM as my EJB. The client is a servlet. The servlet is running in the same JVM as the EJB.
For what its worth, the error that I observed occurs during deployment. I haven't figured out why deployment is failing. -
Stateless bean giving error when deployed through j2ee 1.3RI
I have written a simple stateless bean and deployed through j2ee 1.3 RI
Context initial = new InitialContext(h);
Object obj = initial.lookup("SampleObject"); // SampleObject -jndi name
SampleHome home = (SampleHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, SampleHome.class);
But when running the Client , getting the error
java.lang.ClassCastException
at com.sun.corba.se.internal.javax.rmi.PoartableRemoteObject.narrow(Unknown Source)
at javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow(Unknown Source) at SampleClient.main(SampleClient.java:27)
Is it a system error or whatHi sessionbean,
The most common cause of this exception is when the RMI-IIOP stubs are not found within the client's classpath. The client stubs are returned from the deployment step.
Also, it's better to use the no-arg initial context constructor "new InitialContext()" and let the J2EE 1.3 RI code bootstrap the correct naming service.

Error when compiling the J2ee tutorial source files on win2k professional
Hi,
Could you help me?
I'm trying to complete the j2ee tutorial.
I have downloaded the example code, J2EE Sdk, J2SE and Ant from the web site (these files name are: j2ee-1_3-doc-tutorial-draft3.zip, j2sdkee-1_3_01-win.exe, j2sdk-1_3_1_01-win.exe, jakarta-ant-1.3-bin.zip) and installed the j2sdkee-1_3_01-win.exe, j2sdk-1_3_1_01-win.exe and unzipped j2ee-1_3-doc-tutorial-draft3.zip, jakarta-ant-1.3-bin.zip to their default subdirectory.( jdk1.3.1_01,

this happens to me too and I found that the cause is that the AM server you are going to configure, is already registered into the directory server.
Try running this command (with the obvious parameters substituted)
ldapsearch -B -T -D 'cn=directory manager' -w YOUR_CREDENTIALS -b ou=1.0,ou=iPlanetAMPlatformService,ou=services,YOUR_BASEDN -s base objectclass=* | grep YOUR_SERVERNAMEIf you found that the server you are configuring is listed here try going to AMserver console (if you have another AMserver configured) and browse to Configuration->System Properties->Platforms. If the server is here, remove it, if not, just hit Save (very important).
If this is your first AM and is a first installation you can just get rid of the Directory Server suffix and recreate it with the Top Entry alone.

Error deploying J2EE Application (EAR) to standalone OC4J
Hi
I'm invoking the admin_client.jar utility to deploy a webservice on a standalone OC4J, here is the command:
java -jar %OC4J_HOME%\j2EE\home\admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:localhost:23791 oc4jadmin test -deploy -file C:\10GIDS\BIN\johnTestWS.ear -deploymentname johnsws -bindAllWebApps default-web-site -contextRoot johnsws
I get the following error:
Deploy error: Deploy error: Operation failed with error:Error compiling :C:\JDeveloper_10g\j2ee\home\applications\johnsws\johnTestWS-web: Syntax error in source or compilation failed in: C:\JDeveloper_10g\j2ee\home\application-deployments\johnsws\johnTestWS-web\oracle\generated\runtime\XmlreturnBase__SOAPSerializer.java java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/tools/javac/MainException in thread "main"
The java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/tools/javac/MainException in thread "main" error string (from my limited understanding) would mean there is a jar file missing from the CLASSPATH or something, yet, because the '-jar' option is selected when running the java command I don't have the option to include any classpath in the command string. What am I doing wrong?
I've been trying to assemble and deploy this web service for ages now and I think I'm very close to the end, can someone please show me that I'm doing something very simple wrong....?smydo,
I see you answered yourself in the other forum where you posted the same question:

Sun J2ee webservice tutorial doubt
Hi,
I am trying to understand how the JAX RPC static stub client is built in Sun Webservices tutorial
http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/JAXRPC3.html
Here we have HelloIF and HelloImpl classes. Both these classes are in the
package helloservice.
package helloservice;
public interface HelloIF extends Remote {
}These have been built using
asant build, asant create-war, asant deploy-war commands.Now the client HelloClient.java is in package staticstub.
package staticstub;
import javax.xml.rpc.Stub;
public class HelloClient {
public static void main(String[] args) {
HelloIF hello = (HelloIF)stub;
}}I wanted to know how does HelloClient compile WITHOUT importing package helloservice in which HelloIF has been declared.
Isn't this against the basic java rules.
Or is there a smart way ANT does.
Can someone please explain or give me a plain javac command to compile the HelloClient.java
regards
VasimHello,
Could you post a stack trace?
Thanks,
Bruce
