  • ".. access denied: ... jnlp read" error in applet with NO .jnlp file!

    I'm trying to embed a Java program called ImageJA [http://pacific.mpi-cbg.de/wiki/index.php/ImageJA] into a webpage. I'm using ASP.NET with XHTML 1.0. Since I'm embedding it as an object in the html code, it should not cause any issues from that end. Unforunately, when I try I get an error saying "java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission jnlp read)". The weird thing is, there is no jnlp file anywhere (including the .jar and codebase).
    I'm able to run it successfully if I change the permissions in my java.policy file, but that solution only works for my local machine.
    The .jar file (the only one) has been signed (I believe). I followed the steps as suggested [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17476_01/javase/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/rsa_signing.html], with the exception of contacting VeriSign/Thawte (I wish to have this be self signed).
    This seems like a very odd issue to me, and I'm running out of hair. Can anyone help?

  • XML Parsing Error in applet

    I'm trying to parse a XML dicument in an applet with the following code
    String url = "myfile.xml";
    org.w3c.dom.Document doc = null;
    try
    doc = db.parse(url);
    catch (SAXException se)
    System.out.println("SAX error");
    and get the SAXException when the XML document contains a
    non-ASCII, but ISO-8859-1 character (i.e. '' = 0xE4)
    Running the same code as Java application on the same computer,
    where I also run the applet, works fine (no exception occurs).
    IMHO, there should not be any difference, both applet and application
    should use the same VM and, hence, the same XML parser.
    Any idea why not?
    I have the Sun VM coming with JRE1.4.0 installed on a PC with
    windows 2000, and also got the same result with JRE1.4.2.
    I checked whether the server application sends the correct xml document
    by printing it to System.out (=java console of the browser, where the applet
    runs, and this seems to be OK. So, my java application seems to be OK.
    Is there any possibility that some settings in the browser cause this problem?
    The longer I think about it, the more I'm confused.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    the error was set I didn't set the contentLength in the http header when sending the xml file from the servlet.
    I don't really understand why this caused the type of error I experienced, but, at least, my applet works fine now.

  • "class not found error" and applets ...

    To run an applet inside an html page using the embedded oc4j i have to copy the library containing the applet to the same directory as the html page. Otherwise i get a class not found error....Is there a better way of doing this?
    thanks in advance for any advise

    Hi,
    you should be able to reference the JAR file from teh HTML tag. If not then this sounds like a bug that should be filed

  • Class not found error for applet.

    This is probally a really simple mistake but I've tried everything and can't find it.
    My applet works fine with applet viewer - I'm running it from JBuilder. But when I open my html file in the browser it gives me a 'Class not found' error. I've tried running other applets (my own and demos on this site) and they work fine.This is the applet tag code:
    <applet code = "Rotary.class" width = "650" height = "580" align = "top">
    <!-- coordinates of sectors -->
    <param name = "sector0" value ="234,215,244,207,154,43,125,63">
    </applet>
    The class file is in the same directory as the HTML file. Do I need to specify the codebase? I tried that too - giving it the full pathname of the class.
    In the Java console it said that it couldn't find "C:Project\Rotary\javax\swing\japplet"
    I don't think it could have anything to do with the fact that I'm using swing because the other applets I used used swing.
    Please help - I'm really running out of ideas here!

    You have a similar problem like I had.
    You seem to have a too old JAVA environment for the browser - I had a too new environment.
    For all who are experiencing the same problem!
    Problem:
    You're compiling your applets with a quiet modern compiler (i.e. Netbeans Version 3.5.1)
    You are able to compile your applets without any problems but if you try your applets in "real life", the browsers can't interpret your applets [class not found]. (I tested Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.7)
    So you need a plugin for the new JAVA environment because the JAVA environment of the browser is older than that which the applet needs.
    Well, you have the choice to demand to every user of your applet to download the new Java Runtime Environment, but then don't wonder why nobody visits your site!
    But, don't worry: I figuered out another solution, that Netbeans (www.netbeans.org) allows to compile in different JAVA versions.
    Solution:
    What you have to do is:
    - Install a previous version of JDK (i.e. JDK 1.3 - I would suggest, lower versions don't work with Netbeans 3.5.1 and JDK 1.3 is enough for IE 6.0 and NN 4.7, which I tested)
    - Go into the "bin"-directory of Netbeans (i.e. c:/netbeans3.5.1/bin)
    - Open the file "ide.cfg" (with notepad or any other texteditor)
    - You see a line like: jdkhome "C:\java\j2sdk1.4.2" -J-Xmx96m -J-Xss1024k -J-Xms24m -J-Xverify:none
    - Change the path to your other JDK you wish, like: jdkhome "C:\java\jdk1.3" -J-Xmx96m -J-Xss1024k -J-Xms24m -J-Xverify:none
    - That's it, you can compile your applets in a previous version of JAVA so that "older" browser user don't have to install a plugin for the new JAVA environment.
    Have fun!
    If you have any questions I would be pleased to help you.
    If this tip helped you already I would be pleased if you would send me a quick email with your experience.

    Is it with 7.0 GA or beta?
              Do you know whether the classpath servlet is open or not?
              Can you run this url from a browser and update this issue please.
              http://host:port/bea_wls_internal/classes/weblogic/jms/dispatcher/Dispatcher
              Impl_WLSkel.class
              You should get a downloaded file to be saved. Otherwise your server need to
              open the classpathservlet.
              use -Dweblogic.servlet.ClasspathServlet.disableStrictCheck=true to open the
              classpath servlet.
              Attach the applet code, so that it will help us to nail down the issue.
              Cheers,

    seems as if your client machines are missing the oracle driver. This is one of the disadvantages of a single tier environment you have to make sure that the oracle driver is available to the machines where the applet is run.
    If you have the possibility to define/change the configuration or setup of these machines, e.g. in an intranet environment) deploy the driver in the ext directory of the virtual machines used. If not you can make it a part of your applet jar file, so it is downloaded with the applet code and therefore available to the virtual machines.

  • Applet not running(Error:error reading applets)

    i write a very simple applet .it succesfully compile but on running thru command prompt(windowsxp) it gives error error reading applets

    The first advice given was the best advice you will get at this stage.
    OTOH, the problem might be that the compilation options used on Windows were for a 1.6+ JRE, whereas the Mac is running a 1.5 JRE.
    If that is the case, the relevant questions become..
    How do you compile the applet (e.g. IDE, IDE with Ant build script, command line..)?
    What SDK version are you using?
    What compilation options are used (the important ones here are -source -target and -bootclasspath )?
    What [java version|http://pscode.org/prop/?prop=java.version] is the Mac using?
    Also note that many things* can be determined if you provide an URL to the applet.
    * Especially if someone has a Mac and can report the error.

  • Errors With Applets I Create!!

    I recently baught a new computer, and installed java on it.
    Java and JCreator are the only programs on the computer right now besides for things like word, excel, notepad, paint, etc. that came with it. (I baught the computer for my schoolwork; I'm studying CIS.)
    The java applets on java.sun.com work, untill i download, compile and run them with HTML code in a web browser. I've checked the coding in the HTML file and the .java file like 100 times, it's all correct.
    It compiles fine, no errors.
    When I click the HTML file, (making the applet come up) It says it can't find the init method, even though it's there. I'm left with a blank screen and a little red "x" in the top left corner.
    Any help??

    Do you have any problems when trying to print the same PDF's you have created?
    You may find you have a problem with your fonts. You could open Font Book and look for replications of fonts, indicated by a dot. This can occur when adding software that adds additional fonts. By highlighting the font then selecting 'Edit > Resolve Duplicates' you may resolve the problem.
    If not, you could try resetting the printing system, although it is unusual that you would have two Mac's with print system problems. Still, it would be worth trying. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Move your mouse to the Printers list and hold down the Control key. Now click your mouse and select Reset printing system. Note that this will delete all your printer queues, so you will have to add them again.

    Dont understand it, as i have uploaded all the class files etc....
    Is it the html file? All the applet data resides in the same directory as the html file. This is what the html file looks like:
    <html>
    <applet code="animGif.class" codebase="http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/spug/projectTest/"
              width=980 height=565> </applet>
    </html>
    I didnt originally specify a code base, but i get the same error message either way!!
    Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i must overcome this!!

    It could be a very common problem with filenames containing a $ sign. Perhaps your FTP program didn't upload them correctly. The right was is to pack your files into a jar file and just upload that one: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jar/index.html
