Error in body tag handling in WLS 7.0

          Hi,
          I've tried to port an Web Application to WLS 7.0. This app was originally developed
          under 5.1, and was later on ported to WLS 6.1. In all WLS versions the behaviour
          of our custom tags seems to be equal. But on WLS 7.0 I've found out, that tags, implemented
          as body tags (in my special case the bodycontent was declared as "tagdependent")
          are completely ignored when no body is given. For example if the tag is used in an
          JSP like
          <prefix:mytag>
          </prefix:mytag>
          the tag works. If the tag is used like
          <prefix:mytag/>
          It is completely ignored. The resulting HTML page still contains <prefix:mytag/>.
          Because the behaviour was different in releases pre 7.0 i assume this is a new bug
          in WLS 7.0.
          Regards,
          Christian

          I've found out, that BodyTags which are declared as "tagdependent" in the tld file
          are completely ignored if no body is given. You can see this if you take a look at
          the generated servlet class.
          BodyTags which are declared as "JSP" do work with empty body.

  • Sending value to JSP page from Tag Handler

    Is there some reason why a call to setAttribute inside a Body tag handler would not succeed in making visible a variable outside the scope of the tag? I mean a situation like this:
    <% String p=request.getParameter("p"); %>
    <taglib:tag count="<%= p %>">
    ...body which handler fills in...
    </taglib:tag>
    <form action="thispage.jsp?p=<% newcount %>">
    <input type=submit>
    </form>
    Assume that "count" and "newcount" are defined in the Tag Extra Info class for this handler and that TLD allows a run time evaluation of the "count" attribute.
    (The idea here is to have the handler recall the same jsp file with an incremented counter.)
    Some other way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Alan

    Never mind... I see that I forgot to set the scope of the scripting variable to AT_END in the "Handler Extra Info" class.

    Disclaimer: I don't use Templates - you probably need to make these changes to your template file. Maybe some template experts will correct me, but here's my $.02.
    Then again
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
    <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
    both look like they're out of place to me.
    Anyway:
    If that really is all of the code from your page, then you're missing at least the following:
    DOCTYPE
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Your Title Goes Here</title>
    </head>
    </body>
    </html>
    Add the DOCTYPE by selecting File->Convert->HTML 4.01 Strict (Dreamweaver->Convert->... if on a Mac) from the menus.
    In Code View, just underneath the newly added DOCTYPE code, add:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Whatever you want</title>
    Now, just above your <body> tag, add:
    </head>
    And at the very bottom of the page, add:
    </body>
    </html>
    Sidenote: Since you're already defining the body's background color with CSS, you can change this:
    <body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    to this:
    <body>

  • Multiple Body tags error when using library items

    Hi all,
    I have a navbar that I created in FW and exported as a DW
    library item. When I drag and drop the library item (navbar) into a
    site page, I get an error every time I try to save that page. The
    error states that the body tag was in the wrong place and has been
    moved to the right place. The problem is never fixed though and I
    keep being spammed by the error dialog.
    In reviewing the code, it appears that the library item has
    its own body and preload. So adding the library item to the page
    causes a duplication of the body tags and preload images code.
    Any thoughts as to how I can fix this or avoid it would be
    greatly appreciated.

    You are right, no <htm> <body> or css styles go
    into a library item.

    The struts-template tld has been deprecated in favour of the tiles taglib.
    If you are using anything above struts 1.0, then you should be using tiles.
    Most probably the support files for the struts-template taglib are not in your distribution.
    Cheers,

    Oracle will try the original expected backup location and then failover to the new (cataloged) location.  To prevent it from trying the original location that is unavailable, you should also CROSSCHECK BACKUP ALL (and optionally DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP ALL) so that it would mark the original location (/backup/DB/rman/20130623...)  as unavailable and not try it at all.

  • JWSDP Custom Tags (finding tag handler class)

    Hi,
    ive been using the Java Web Services Development Pack
    ive tried several examples of creating custom tags all seem to have different directory structures and none seem to work. Heres my setup...
    rootdir -> index.jsp
    rootdir -> WEB-INF -> web.xml
    rootdir -> WEB-INF -> tlds -> demo.tld (the tag library descriptor)
    rootdir -> WEB-INF -> classes -> demo -> tags -> Greeter.java (the tag handler class)
    there are some other folders created by deploytool but they are empty.
    heres demo.tld...
    <taglib>
    <tlib-version>1.0</tlib-version>
    <jsp-version>2.0</jsp-version>
    <short-name>demo</short-name>
    <uri>DemoTags</uri>
    <tag>
    <name>greeter</name>
    <tag-class>demo.tags.Greeter</tag-class>
    <body-content>empty</body-content>
    </tag>
    </taglib>
    here is the tag handler class Greeter.java...
    package demo.tags;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.*;
    import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
    public class Greeter extends SimpleTagSupport {
    public void doTag() throws JspException {
    PageContext pageContext = (PageContext) getJspContext();
    JspWriter out = pageContext.getOut();
    try {
    out.println("Hello World");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    // Ignore.
    and heres the code in index.jsp...
    <%@taglib prefix="t" uri="DemoTags" %>
    <t:greeter />
    Id love to know if these directory structures are fixed and where they are specified - its confusing the way so many examples show differences.
    this is the exception i get when trying to run index.jsp through the admin page (localhost:4848)
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /index.jsp(11,0) Unable to load tag handler class "demo.tags.Greeter" for tag "t:greeter"
    ----

    Sincere Apologies - It might be a good idea to compile my java files so i actually have classes in my classes directory !!
    i think a build.xml file is needed for ant to compile everything that is needed now.
    and the beat goes on !

  • Error Using Custom Tag

    I am trying to use a custom tag but receive an error when I use it on a jsp page.
    I have a tag handler class file, tag library descriptor file, specified the path to the .tld in the web.xml file.
    The error implies that it cannot find the SimpleTag.class file, though I put it in the \webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes\ directory.
    Here is the error. Does anyone know what else it could be?
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    Generated servlet error:
    C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1\work\localhost\examples\jsp\jspVisual\ch10\using_0005ftag$jsp.java:63: Class org.apache.SimpleTag not found.
    SimpleTag_jspx_th_myFirstTag_SimpleTag_0 = new SimpleTag();

    I could not see any obvious mistakes. But what you could try, in order to isolate the problem, is to bypass the web.xml. In other words access the TLD directly by doing this in your JSP
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/jsp/tag_library_descriptor.tld" prefix="myFirstTag" %>
    if that does work then move the your TLD out of the jsp folder and into WEB-INF , then try
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tag_library_descriptor.tld" prefix="myFirstTag" %>
    Maybe someone else has better idea.

  • Writing tag in a tag handler

    Hi,
    I was wondering if it was possible to embed tags in the output of a tag handler.
    for example, depending on an attribute, I would like my custom tag <MyTag/> to write out a <fmt:message/> tag. I tried something like pageContext.getOut().write("<fmt:message key='mykey'/>"), which writes out the message tag, but it doesn't get evaluated because the body content is evaluated already. So all I see is the tag <fmt:message/> instead of the actual message.
    Is there a way to re-evaluate the tags in the body after the tag handler has a chance to write something to it first?
    Thanks.

    No, there isn't.
    The best you can do is write a tag handler using a .tag file.
    .tag files are to Tag libraries what JSPs are to Servlets.
    So you write you custom tag potentially using other custom tags in the process) it then translates that tag into java code.
    Cheers,

  • Unbalanced Body Tag on a line that doesn't exist

    I'm receiving an unbalanced body tag error on line 129 and
    line 194, however these two lines don't exist in the template
    ALSO, whenever I create new pages from the template it
    automatically tries to save the new pages as .dwt and places them
    in the templates folder instead of the chosen format of html.
    Please advise. (see code attached)

    > I'm receiving an unbalanced body tag error on line 129
    and line 194,
    > however
    > these two lines don't exist in the template
    This definitely means your page is scrambled.
    > ALSO, whenever I create new pages from the template it

    > of
    > the chosen format of html.
    This REALLY definitely means your page is scrambled. Are you
    using FILE |
    New From Template when you create these new pages?
    Looking at the code below, I can see several anomalies.
    1. There is this unnecessary line - <!-- TemplateInfo
    codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->. Why is it there?
    2. There is NO editable region around the <title> tag.
    3. There is NO editable region in the head of the page in
    addition to #2,
    above.
    These last two are the sign of an improperly made template.
    Do this -
    Create a new page (Basic HTML).
    Use FILE | Save as Template....
    Look at the code in the head region of the page, particularly
    the editable
    region around the <title> tag, and the other editable
    region in the head
    called "head".
    Make your template file look like that.
    Always use FILE | Save as Template when you create your
    templates and you
    won't have this problem again.

  • Jsp ok but IDE display errors in javascript+tags and taglibs include file

    Hi,
    The JDev 10.1.3 IDE display errors on running JSP in following cases:
    1) When tag libs declaration in include file.
    2) When jstl/struts tags are used in javascript
    JDev 10.1.2 didn't diplay those errors
    More details:
    extracts:
    Type of error: Character data not allowed in head
    alert("Your session has been closed automatically after a long period of inactivity.\nOR\nYou used an invalid or old bookmark.");
    javascript comments: (use for debugging)
    // alert("agt: "+agt+", is_ie: "+is_ie);
    Type of error: element <used tag> not expected here
    <fmt:bundle basename="com.photoswing.webview.MainshopAppMessageResources">
    alert("<fmt:message key="alert.timeout.noRedirection"/>");
    </fmt:bundle>
    JDev 10.1.3 has no javascript editor, so it should ignore the content of <script> .. </script>
    Regards
    Fred

    Hi,
    Same message but with formatting tags.
    Closing tag is [ / code ] without blanks.
    Thanks to Didier,
    IDE displayed errors => jsp runs and compiles ok.
    It is not obvious to reproduce those errors because they vary upon external or internal tag declaration.
    Remark:
    I tried replacing jsp tag declaration:
    <%@ include file="../../helper/TagLibsInclude.jsp"%>by simple file but it doesn't help:
    <%@ include file="../../srcInclude/tagLibs.inc"%>Case 1) all tag declaration are external but jstl c and fmt also internal:
    <%@ include file="../../helper/TagLibsInclude.jsp"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>

      </c:if>
    </script>Regarding my workaround:
    You don't have to remove the tag declaration, but I prefer to keep my jsp as clean as possible.
    But I found another problem, this time it's a serious one, when you reformat the source ALL tag prefixes are removed.
    Example
    <c:set ... becomes <setOther example:
      <c:set var="numberOfRows">
      <c:out value="${bindings.LoadedPhotos}" />
      </c:set>becomes:
        <set var="numberOfRows">
         <out value="${bindings.LoadedPhotos}"/>
        </set>Good luck!
