Why an "ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist" error when no dynamic SQL?

Hi all,
While running PL/SQL in SQL Developer 3.2.09, I got the following error after adding a section of code. Note that nothing I'm doing has anything to do with dynamic SQL (which is what 01006 is supposedly about).
Error report:
ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist
01006. 00000 - "bind variable does not exist"

After commenting out the new chunk of code that caused the error, the error persisted.
After deleting the new code, the error went away.
What the heck!?!? If you have any ideas, please lay 'em on me.

P.S. It's a few hundred lines of code, so I didn't append it to this post and I don't see how to attach a file.

Let's review a few facts:
1. You post a question in the sql developer forum that has no apparent relation to sql developer. You could confirm this by doing the test using sql*plus or some other tool.
2. You provide NO information about what database you are even using. The only clue is an ORA -xxx message that means SOME version of Oracle is involved.
3. You provide NO information about what the four digit version of Oracle DB is being used.
4. You provide NO information about what the code in general or what that specific section of the code is even doing. The code could be doing literally anything that Oracle is capable of doing.
That's a bit like calling a mechanic you don't know, telling them your car is making a funny noise and asking them what the problem with your car is.

Your first clue that your troubleshooting method is seriously flawed is when you make statements that aren't supported by any evidence at all but appear to be nothing but your opinion.
Your second clue is when those statements appear to directly contradict what Oracle is telling you.

Sorry - but I would place my money on Oracle.
I'm sure the above may sound harsh - it is intended to be. My four major rules (there are more) when troubleshooting Oracle problems.
1. Assume that Oracle is CORRECT when it tells you there is a problem.
2. Assume that you are WRONG if your opinion conflicts with what Oracle is telling you - see rule #1.
3. Don't make ANY other assumptions. You can form hypotheses but don't state them as facts until they are proven.
4. Your 'opinion' is only useful to the extent that it can help you form meaningful hypotheses - see rule #3.

1. where might there be a bind variable that does not exist?
which leads to a prerequisite question:
2. where are ALL of the bind variables that might be being used?
Question #2 is where you need to start your search. Here are at least five possibilities (there are more)
1. your code - this should be easiest to check and you state that your 'anonymous' block does not have any.
2. a table trigger - triggers that use the :NEW, :OLD or :PARENT pseudocolumns. Those psuedocolumns are BIND variables and the trigger code that uses them is, by definition, dynamic sql.
3. a pl/sql package/function/procedure - any of these might be being called from trigger code or a view that is involved in the transaction. Any of these could take a parameter and/or use bind variables and cause your problem if that bind variable does 'not exist'.
4. a functional index - can also trigger code from #3 above
5. an audit trigger that logs the audit activity that your user or your code is performing. This code could be trying to use a SYS_CONTEXT environment variable that has not been created and cause a 'bind variable does not exist' error.
See rule #1 - Oracle is CORRECT. Until you have identified and examined ALL of the code (not just your anonymous block) being executed and ruled it out you should continue with the hypotheses that Oracle is CORRECT.
In the (extremely) unlikely event that you can show that Oracle is NOT correct you should file a SOR with Oracle.

How can I execute Dynamic SQL statement in Forms?

I have to execute dynamic SQL statement from Forms
Below statement I have to execute
"EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_stmt INTO v_return;".
Googled for the same got results saying, Better use Database function or procedures to execute these Dynamic Statements but We want to execute in forms only.

So in short you are trading code obfuscation for maintainability and the ability to share code between tools? If from somewhere else you need a procedure already implemented in database PL/SQL (and now ported to forms) this would mean you'd need to implement it in every other tool. In times where you might want to integrate your forms with $other_technology and putting stuff on the database is the first step to share functionality you just go the opposite way? And all that because someone is afraid that somebody might steal your source code? I am sorry to be blunt, but this is just plain stupid.
Leaving aside that some things like Analytic Functions, Bulk processing or execute immediate are not even available in forms your software consists of how many LOC? How long does it take to bring a new developer up to speed with your source code? Imagine how long that would take for a developer who doesn't have coleagues who know their way around.
And just so you know: I work for a ISV selling a closed-source product as well. We have 200+ customers all over the planet. We are well aware that wrapped packages can be reverse engineered. The premise is: stored procedures can be reused in every tool we have, if it makes sense to put stuff on the database by all means do it. If someone would want to reverse engineer our software I'd wish him good luck as some parts are implemented in such a hilarious complicated way I have troubles understanding them (and quite frankly I refuse to understand certain parts, but that's another story). I do work for almost 10 years for that ISV.
In any case the possible solutions have already been mentioned: you have exec_sql, create_group_from_query and forms_ddl to execute dynamic SQL in forms whereas forms_ddl is a one way street and most certainly not the thing you need or want. Take a look at the documentation for the other 2 things.

Getting error while using DYNAMIC SQL

I am Oracle DBA. I have limited knowledge on PL/SQL. I used below PL/SQL code to drop 50 partitons from one of the table.
I used Dynamic SQL EXECUTE IMMEDIATE to drop partions. But error occured. If I commented EXECUTE IMMEDIATE, procedure executed successfully.
Please suggest me, where i did the mistake. Also please suggest for better code than my code. please find below code and error details.

PL/SQL code runs on the server, inside an Oracle process - thus PL/SQL code cannot dynamically write and display messages to the client. That server process is not connected to any keyboard, mouse or display.
DBMS_OUTPUT can be used. This is a PL/SQL buffer area in that server process that code can write lines of text too. When the server process informs the client that it has completed, the client can now request the contents of the DBMS_OUTPUT buffer and the client can display it on the client device.
This is what set serveroutput on in SQL*Plus does - tell the sqlplus client to request the DBMS_OUTPUT buffer after each Oracle server call made and to display the contents locally.
So to display the SQL command can be done using DBMS_OUTPUT. E.g.

Problem in executing Dynamic SQL in SYSTEM Schema

I am getting the error ORA-00942:table or view does not exist.
If I execute the created SQL from SQLPlus it is getting executed without any errors. If I try the same from SYS account it is working fine without any issues.
Could some one share some light on it.

Hi Guys,
I got the solution, for referening objects in DYNAMIC sqls need explicit grant on those objects (not through roles). That is the reason this SQL is working in SYS schema, since SYS owns these tables, but system grot the access to these tables through roles.

Execute Dynamic SQL statement using procedure builder

i want to execute a dynamic SQL statment using procedure builder not using forms
because my statement depending on a variable table name
i know that i can do that from forms using
FORMS_DDL('SQL_STAT');
but i wanna to use the procedure builder
which function i should use and how?
please explain in example if you don't mind.

You can very well use DBMS_SQL Package supplied by Oracle for doing this.
Search for DBMS_SQL in OTN. You will get all info regarding this.

Error while executing the .sql file

Strange error while execute PL/SQL

Hi All,
I am execting a procedure from user (say USER1) who is having the DBA role granted.
Its getting the errors while creation:

But If I execute the same procedure from SYS user, its got created without any errors.
The procedure is using tables SYS.V$LOCK L, SYS.V$SESSION S, SYS.V$PROCESS P, SYS.USER$ U, SYS.OBJ$ T and shows the locking info for DB.
Please let me know if I am missing something and also how to resolve this issue.

Executing dynamic SQL in trigger

Hi !
I just wanted to ask the community if it is ok using dynamic SQL
with execute immediate in triggers, like:

All dyn SQL inside the trigger does not reference the triggered
table, so I will not get a mutating trigger.

Hi Andrew !
I have a "master" table with date and amount and some more
columns. I have a statistic table which must get updated
accordingly each time the master table is changed (ins, upd,
del). In this stats table there a cols like "sum_2000, sum_2001"
etc. The dynamic statement depends on date to figure out the
column name for the sum_yyyy cols, and amount will be
added/subtracted. Of course there is a check that the trigger
cannot handle when the year of the date is smaller than 2000 or
greater than 2009.
That's why I want to use dyn SQL.

You can try running this script (PUPBLD.SQL) manually, but I never saw this going wrong. Something has gone wrong, which will most likely give more errors later on.
Did you run the scripts in the correct order with the correct user:
createdb10.sql - as sysdba
utlspace.sql - as sysdba
dbowner.sql - as sysdba
XXddl.sql - as sysdba
psroles.sql - as system
psadmin.sql - as system
connect.sql - as system

Avoid Hard Parsing for executing dynamic SQL using DUAL table Oracle

I want to know if dynamic sql statements involving DUAL table can be modified to remove HARD PARSING.
We have several SQL statements are stored in configuration table, here is sample example

You want to check the conditions using select count(*) from dual where <condition with binds substituted fron the array>
Judging from the title Hard Parsing represents the major problem and you cannot avoid it since every condition to be verified is different from every other condition.
I think your best bet is not to evaluate conditions row by row - context shift cannot be avoided and there might be more than one for each iteration.
So try to do it in a single step:

RemoteInvokable Error while executing the sqls through weblogic connection object

Hi, We are getting the following error while trying to execute the sps or sql using
the weblogic connection pool.
1. The client is a simple java program (not Bean).
2. It is processing lots of records (more than 6000). When we are having less no.
of records we are not getting this error. i.e. 200/600 records.

Which weblogic version/ service pack are you using?
Meanwhile, the source of this error could be places
where you close allocated JDBC objects twice. AFAIR
it was fixed in the latest service packs.
