Error in tnsnames.ora

Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 and then created my listener and tnsnames using NETCA.I am getting the following error for tnsnames.ora.
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.102))(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ora10g))
TNS-12533: TNS:illegal ADDRESS parameters
Listener does not give any error.I am including the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files for your referral.I would appreciate if someone can help point out the error.

    Hi,
    I have both Oracle Client 9.2 and Instant Client 10.2.0.1.0 on my laptop. How to make Toad 8.5.1 locate tnsnames.ora file for instant client.
    When I open Toad, and selects "Instant Client 10.2.0.1.0" as installed client, it shows the error message "tnsnames.ora not found!"

    Sal, your comment is pretty irrelevant to the question :^)
    user570251, since you are restricted to using Windows, it will not be easy for you to use two different Oracle clients on the same machine.
    Basically, you'll have to change TNS_ADMIN whenever you want to change between clients.
    Why do you need two client versions on your computer?

    We are using oracle 10.2.0.1 via Toad. I get a cannot find tnsnames.ora file error message and see only a tnsnames.ora file in the sample file under the c:\ORACLE\product\10.2.0.1\NETWORK\ADMIN\ directory.
    Do I need to create this file, and if so how do I do this?

    HI,
    I tried to connect PHP and oracle in Red Hat linux. I got error ORA-12545 after changing the host name as IPAddress in Tnsnames.ora file. In sqlnet.ora file also i have entry for tnsnames in Directory_Path. I struggled so much but i couldnt solve that. Please give me ur valuable suggestions....

    // *Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the
    // most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the
    // executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.)
    // If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the

    Seems you specified wrong IP address.

    Does anybody have any idea what is wrong? Thanks a lot. Changsong

    Just found out this IS a string error in my Tnsname.ora. What i did is deleting all the entries in my tnsname.ora, and start adding each one back. I found one particular entry is responsible for the error. This is the old text
    serv32.xxx.ge.com =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = TCP)(PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = sevr32.xxy.ge.com)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = atmo32))
    just looking by itself I can't see anything wrong. I just formatted it a little, making it looked like the other one that is working
    serv32.xxx.ge.com =(DESCRIPTION =
         (ADDRESS_LIST =
         (ADDRESS =
         (COMMUNITY = TCP)
         (PROTOCOL = TCP)
         (HOST = sevr32.xxy.ge.com)
         (PORT = 1521)))
         (CONNECT_DATA=
         (SID = atmo32)))
    and now it works fine. I Really can't tell the difference, except that some words were moved to the other line. What puzzled me is that the same old tnsname.ora worked in almost all the other circumstances, like sql plus, and other database enginee. But it is just not good enough for dba studio?
    I admit I probably should have used the network utility to add a connection to avoid this type of format error.
    Anyhow, I'm glad it is solved. by the way, the symjct.dll mentioned in the previous post should be symcjit.dll. I guess he mispelled the name. I renamed it to symcjit_old.dll and now the java error was gone. So that is another gain from this post. Thanks Joel for all the information.

  • Tnsnames.ora error when installing oracle 9i developer suite

    Hi,
    Can anyone answer this question: I recently installed
    oracle 9i and i'm getting a tnsnames.ora error when connecting to the database. Can anyone tell me what parameters to modify in the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files and what values to put in these parameters. Also,
    i'm trying to create a net_service_name in oracle net manager(in configuration/management tools) and I can't figure out the service name for versions of Oracle 8i or later. Can someone tell me what this is because the program is asking for a service name. I need this info
    for connecting to the database by username/password@net_service_name. Please respond soon.
    Thank you.
    T. Patel

    Go Net8Assistant. Follow the tree Net8Config ->Local -> Service Naming. In this node you will find all instances set (SIDs) and by clicking on them you will see in the right hand part of the screen if they were set or not in tnsnames.ora.
    Another way: Usually the database service name is OracleServiceSID. Go Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and check out the Oracle Service name. Take the SID from there to tnsnames.ora.
    You should have write down the name you was asked for while you were installing Oracle (or the default name that the installer put for you).
    Hope this will help you

    Streams requires the usage of GLOBAL_NAME=TRUE. You must create a tns entry with the db_name + domain name and your dblink name must have the same global name for the target DB.
    Source db_name = SRC.domain.com
    target db_name = TRG.domain.com
    DB link name created by strmadmin and used by strmadmin on SRC:
    create database link TRG.domain.com connect to STRMADMIN identified by STRMADMIN using 'TRG.domain.com'
    And in your tnsnames.ora you must have:
    TRG, TRG.domain.com = ....
    In your setup, obviously the global_name is not used.

  • EM doesn't allow creation of tnsnames.ora entry with service name orcl11gr2

    Dear all,
    I'm trying to create a net service name with EM Database Control, via Net Services Administration link. On the service name field, under the 'Edit Net Service Name' screen, I key in orcl11gr2, and it throws the the following error:
    Validation Error
    Examine and correct the following errors, then retry the operation:
    Service Name - Specify a valid service name.
    I wonder what is the extra validation that EM is checking. I assume it's checking the number of characters to be 8 characters or less.
    Also, because of this extra validation that is in EM, all tnsnames.ora entry that have service name = orcl11gr2, I will not be able to use EM to modify them, as I will get the same above error.
    But why does Oracle implements this extra validation, when the same validation is not implemented on other Oracle tools? For instance:
    1. dbca allows me to create a database with instance_name greater than 8 characters, and the outcome of initialization parameters will be as follow:
    db_name=orcl11gr -- truncated to 8 characters
    instance_name=orcl11gr2
    db_unique_name=orcl11gr2
    service_names=orcl11gr2
    2. Oracle Net Manager supports service name of orcl11gr2. The created Net Service Name, I have no problem connecting to the database.
    3. Listener support orcl11gr2 service name
    I'm using Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64), running on Windows 7.

    I am not getting any errors during these two phases.
    And when i am calling the extproc custagg(Mindistance) which i implemented using ODCI(oracle data catridge interface) ...I am getting the error undefined symbol : ODCIAggregateInitialize
    So can any one please let me know what shared libraries are required to access the ODCI services and also am I compiling and linking it the right way or am I missing any libraries.
    I have the oci.h & odci.h and several other header files in my :
    $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/public
    And while linking i am using : $ORACLE_HOME/lib/*.so files.
    So I don't know whether my directory is missing some shared files related to ODCI : can any one please let me know which files or shared libraries I am missing :
    Below are list of files in my : $ORACLE_HOME/lib :

    It's only a quick guess but have you checked your tnsnames.ora file to ensure you've opened the environment to find the libraries? If you set the EXTPROC_DLLS=ANY, you open the database to security issues but it should tell you if this cause because you can't access the library that contains the symbol.
    SID_LIST_CALLOUT_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = <oracle_home_directory>)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (ENV = "EXTPROC_DLLS=ONLY:
    <oracle_home_directory>/customlib/writestr1.so
    ,LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<oracle_home_directory>/lib")
    )

  • How to use ODBC SQLDriverConnect() without using tnsnames.ora file

    I have an ODBC application that connects to an Oracle 10g database. Currently, my SQLDriverConnect() function call uses the following connection string:
    DRIVER={Oracle in OraClient10g_home1}; DBQ=MyDB.world; DBA=W; UID=foo; PWD=bar
    This requires an entry in the tnsnames.ora file that looks like this:
    MyDB.world =
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = server1.intel.com)(Port = 1521)
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = server2.intel.com)(Port = 1521)
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = server3.intel.com)(Port = 1521)
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = server4.intel.com)(Port = 1521)
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = MY_SRVC))
    However, I would really like to be able to connect using ODBC without having to create that entry in the tnsnames.ora file. I have tried to substitute the DBQ=MyDB.world with the entire (DESCRIPTION=..... string from the original tnsnames.ora file, but it returns the error:
    ORA-12154: TNS: Could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
    I have heard others are able to use sqlplus with no tnsnames.ora file and the do specify the entire (DESCRIPTION=.... string on the sqlplus connection string, but is this possible to do using the ODBC SQLDriverConnect() function? If so, do I need to use a different keyword/value pair other than DBQ=?
    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    How would that work in a load balanced configuration? Take a closer look at the tnsnames.ora example I included in my original post. I have 4 ADDRESS= sections to denote 4 servers that are part of the load balanced environment.
    Also, I'm not familiar with that syntax, I need to use the syntax supported by the SQLDriverConnect() API function, which looks like this:
    DRIVER={Oracle in OraClient10g_home1}; DBQ=MyDB.world; DBA=W; UID=foo; PWD=bar
    I don't know as SQLDriverConnect() would accept an alternative syntax. But the more important issue here is the ability to specify those 4 servers in the load balanced configuration as indicated by that tnsnames.ora entry.

  • Tnsnames.ora in SQL Developer 3.0.04

    Hi!
    I've previously used both Toad and SQL Navigator on this computer, and they were both able to connect to all the connection strings in tnsnames.
    I've manually tried adding environment variables, and setting the directory under Tools --> Preference --> Database --> Advanced.
    The path is C:\Program Files\Oracle\ora92\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora.
    When I try to create new connections, and chooses tnsnames, the drop down menu is empty.
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks and regards

    SQL Developer is very sensitive to syntax errors in tnsnames files which are ignored by other tools including sqlplus.
    Check the file very carefully for errors. Try reducing it to a single definition and adding definitions back in gradually.

  • DBD::Oracle & Instant client - don't find tnsnames.ora

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use tns names in Perl scripts to connect with Instant client. I always get the ORA-12154 error when connecting with Perl :
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
    The perl command that raise the error is :
    +$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Oracle:MYDB","user","password") or die $DBI::errstr."\n";+
    I checked my Oracle installation and everything seems fine. Connection with sqlplus work without problem using the same connection string (sqlplus user/passowrd@MYDB).
    I stat'ed my tnsnames.ora file to check if it's accessed : it is with sqlplus, but not with my perl script.
    Instant Client has been installed with the zip files made available by Oracle (not RPM). ORACLE_HOME points to the installation directory and tnsnames.ora is located in $ORACLE_HOME//network/admin/. Server is a Red Hat Entreprise 5.
    In my knowledge DBD::Oracle use OCI so there should not have difference between sqlplus and DBD::Oracle. Am I wrong ? Anyone have had this problem before ?
    Thanks for your help
    Florent

    Hi,
    Environment variables was correctly defined, but your comment put me on the right track.
    I printed the %ENV content to check ORACLE_HOME which was OK.
    I check the directory and remind I put a sqlnet.ora file in the same directory than tnsnames.ora with the followin content :
    AUTOMATIC_IPC = OFF
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT = OFF
    names.directory_path = (TNSNAMES)
    names.default_domain = world
    name.default_zone = world
    I removed this file and everything is ok now. I don't really know what this file is used for, but if I keep it online and change MYDB in the connection name to MYDB.world, it worked. I think I have to learn more about names...
    Thanks for your help anyway !
    Regards,
    Florent
