Error message from database stored procedures
I would like to have some error message show at client side from stored procedures.
I use MS SQL Server and use RAISEERROR, but ColdFusion does not bring the error message just ignore the error continue to run the other part of code.
I just want to know are there any way to bring stroed procedure error message to client, or I have to trap the error at Web Server or JavaScript level.
Your help and information is great appreciated,
Regards,
Iccsi,
Just wrap your cfstoredproc in a cftry/cfcatch. See this for an example:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1879754/accessing-raiseerror-message-from-cfstoredproc
There's no way your javascript can trap this server-side error though, unless you were calling your CFM page that calls the stored proc via an AJAX request.

How to display Error Message in APEX from Database Stored Procedure
Hello,
Using APEX version 3.2
DB version 9.2.0.8.0
Internet Explorer version 6
I have an After Submit Page Process that calls a stored procedure. In the exception section I'm using dbms_output.putline to display an error message, but the error message is not displayed in APEX. How can I have the error message generated from the stored procedure display in APEX?
Thanks so much.Hi Apex_Noob,
I created On Load - Before Header process that uses apex_application.g_notification := :P3_ROLE;I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by "instead of using dbms_output.putline use :P1_ITEM"
I have the following code in my stored procedure

dbms_output.put_line('Role does not exist');Thanks. -
How to display error message raised by stored procedure in ADF Faces ?
Hi all,
From my jspx page, I call a stored procedure wrapped by a custom service method in apps module.
Based on certain condition in the stored procedure, e.g : NO DATA FOUND EXCEPTION, I raised a custom error from the stored procedure :
RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001, 'ERROR : No Data Tobe Processed !') ;
The question is : How to display that error nicely in the jspx page ?
Below is my backing beans code to call the stored procedure :
public String okButton1_action() {
try {
SalesAM service =
(SalesAM)JSFUtils.resolveExpression("#{data.SalesAMDataControl.dataProvider}");
createdInvoices = service.processInvoice(
soFr.getValue().toString().toUpperCase(),
soTo.getValue().toString().toUpperCase(), .....
currDateTime, "O") ;
} catch (JboException e) {
System.out.println("There is error raised by stored proc..!");
System.out.println(e.toString());
Thank you for your help,
xtantoYou can add a message to the page in the following way:
FacesMessage mess = new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR, "title", e.getMessage());
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addMessage(null, mess); -

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
The problem was in the DB Adapter. After re-deploying it and delete/create data source it is working correctly now.

Capturing Custom Error Messages from Database Triggers
Hi Everybody
When i fired a trigger it should show only the custom message from RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR
instead of showing all the message....
ORA-20103: We Cannot Delete the emp_id 5610
ORA-06512: at "emp_id", line 89
ORA-04088: error during execution of trigger 'delete_emp_id.trg'I want to show only the custom message
We Cannot Delete the emp_id 5610Thanks in AdvanceNot possible AFAIK.
Instead of RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR, define a custom exception, call it and just print it onto the console (using dbms_output). You can't pop it out though. -
Capture error messages from stored procedure calls
Hi there,
How do I capture a stored procedure calls error messages provided the stored procedures does not have output parameters? This questions applies to Oracle 7.3.4 stored procedures calls.
TQ
NeoThere are two parts.
The stored proc must 'throw' an exception.
And java must catch it.
You probably already have the java part. That is the catch(SQLException).
As for the stored proc you can use the following search string in the jdbc forum
raise oracle
You need to use 'raise' in the stored proc but I am not sure of the exact form, but one of the threads using the above search string is likely to have it. -
Database Connection Error: Cannot obtain error message from the server
I have a SQL statement that wants to add a temp table to the database. The SQL statement works fine but when I try to add it via 'Add Command' feature in Crystal XI R2, I get the following error message:
Database Connection Error: Cannot obtain error message from the server
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Zack H.Hi Raghavendra,
I am using this in the 'Add Command' feature but I get the error message displayed in the subject line:
CREATE TABLE #TibetanYaks(
YakID char(4),
YakName char(20) )
INSERT INTO #TibetanYaks (YakID, YakName)
SELECT LastName, FirstName
FROM Employee
WHERE EmployeeID between '2000' and '3000'
I haven't tried to add this as a stored procedure but I imagine it will work as I have no problems yet with stored procedures. I simply want to be able to use temporary tables for the sole purpose of that session and not creating anything static in the database.
By the way, even though I get the error message, when I look on the backend database, I see that the temporary table was successfully created...its just not brought across correctly in Crystal.
Any ideas?

Database Connector error: 'cannot obtain error message from server'
I am using Oracle stored procedures and I have used IN parameters for input and INOUT parameter of REF_CURSOR TYPE for returning resultset in Crystal Report 2008 by using package. Now when I am trying to add the package in the Crystal Report, parameter input box prompts, I enter some values and gets Database Connector error: 'cannot obtain error message from server'.
But when I do not use INPUT parameters and use OUT parameter of REF_CURSOR type it runs well without any issues.
We are using ODBC connection for Oracle.
Kindly suggest.Hello,
Search the Knowledge Base for "oracle store procedures" and you'll find a document on how to write a SP so CR can use them.
Thank you

How to get an updatable ADODB Recordset from a Stored Procedure?
In VB6 I have this code to get a disconnected ADODB Recordset from a Oracle 9i database (the Oracle Client is 10g):
Dim conSQL As ADODB.Connection
Dim comSQL As ADODB.Command
Dim recSQL As ADODB.Recordset
Set conSQL = New ADODB.Connection
With conSQL
.ConnectionString = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;Password=<pwd>;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=<uid>;Data Source=<dsn>"
.CursorLocation = adUseClientBatch
.Open
End With
Set comSQL = New ADODB.Command
With comSQL
.ActiveConnection = conSQL
.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
.CommandText = "P_PARAM.GETALLPARAM"
.Properties("PLSQLRSet").Value = True
End With
Set recSQL = New ADODB.Recordset
With recSQL
Set .Source = comSQL
.CursorLocation = adUseClient
.CursorType = adOpenStatic
.LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic
.Open
.ActiveConnection = Nothing
End With
The PL/SQL Procedure is returning a REF CURSOR like this:
PROCEDURE GetAllParam(op_PARAMRecCur IN OUT P_PARAM.PARAMRecCur)
IS
BEGIN
OPEN op_PARAMRecCur FOR
SELECT *
FROM PARAM
ORDER BY ANNPARAM DESC;
END GetAllParam;
When I try to update some values in the ADODB Recordset (still disconnected), I get the following error:
Err.Description: Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status value.
Err.Number: -2147217887 (80040E21)
Err.Source: Microsoft Cursor Engine
The following properties on the Command object doesn't change anything:
.Properties("IRowsetChange") = True
.Properties("Updatability") = 7
How can I get an updatable ADODB Recordset from a Stored Procedure?4 years later...
I was having then same problem.
Finally, I've found how to "touch" the requierd bits.
Obviously, it's hardcore, but since some stupid at microsoft cannot understand the use of a disconnected recordset in the real world, there is no other choice.

How do I get return parameters from a stored procedure call?
The Open SQL Statement has an option on the Advanced tab to specify a command type of 'stored procedure'. In addition to returning a recordset, a stored procedure can also return parameters (see http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q185/1/25.ASP for info on doing this with ADO). Is it possible to get those return parameters with TestStand? In particular, I want to be able to get error codes back from the stored procedure in case it fails (maybe there is another way).
The Open SQL Statement step type does not fully support stored procedures. If the procedure returns a record set than you can fetch the values as you would a SELECT statement. Stored procedures require you to setup the parameters before the call and this is not yet supported. Bob, in his answer, made a reference to the Statements tab and I think that he was talking about the Database Logging feature in TS 2.0.
If the stored procedure is returning a return value, it may return as a single column, single row recordset which can be fetched as you normally do a record set.

Exec stored procedure from another stored procedure - not working
Hey, we've got a bunch of .sql files that we run, and some of them are stored procedures. Our programs call the stored procedures from within the .sql files and that works, but we've tried calling a stored procedure from another stored procedure and it won't compile. The syntax looks the same, and we can run that second stored procedure from the SQL*Plus command prompt just fine, so we know it's in there. It doesn't matter whether we type exec or execute in the first stored procedure--it still gives us a compilation error. Here's the relevant bit of the code:
delete CMHISTORYINDEX;
commit;
exec SP_DAILY_TOTAL;
END SP_DAILY_CLOSING;
/Here's where we go into SQL*Plus and try to compile it:
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.3.0 - Production

SQL>We've also tried changing SP_DAILY_CLOSING to lowercase, but it doesn't seem to help. As I mentioned before, we can type that same sort of thing in .sql files that are not stored procedures and the exec is compiled fine and runs correctly. What are we doing wrong?In the stored procedure remove "exec" :
delete CMHISTORYINDEX;

Return national language strings from java stored procedures
Hi, all.
How does i can return String which contains national characters from java stored procedure? I.e. convert UTF java string to national language of database. It's does not processing automatically (why?).

SELECT TestNLSString AS X FROM DUAL;

OS: Windows 2000 Server
Oracle Server version: Oracle 8.1.7.1.4Ok. I had a specific problem.
I want to use java stored procedure (function) to make a connection to remote db using supplied connection parameters make some quieries there end return results in a form of structured data - object.
I have defined an object type in a database where the function will reside. I granted execute privilege to public user on this type, made public synonyms to both, the object type and the function, so anybody connected to the same database would have an access to this functionality.
I supposed that if I supply connection parameters for some other user but the same database when running the function, everything should go smooth. Yeah.
My java code executed ok: it made a connection to the db with some x user, it resolved object type descriptor given (oracle.sql.StructDescriptor), but pl/sql wrapper function reported the error I've mentioned. If I executed the function giving it the connection parameters for same account as where object type was declared, everything went fine.
My final solution is:
Make TWO! connection in java code: 1st for ("jdbc:default:connection:"), 2nd for remote database account.
Use first connection to construct oracle.sql.StructDescriptor
Use second connection to retreive data from remote db -
