  • Error in retrieving data from database

    Hi,
    I'm now developing a program using servlet and oracle 8.1.5.0.0
    I've encountered this error while I run my program:
    NullPointerException
    What does this means?
    When I compiled that time, there is no error on the program.
    Is it caused by there is no any parameter received by the database when it tried to retrieve the data but I have used the
    request.getParameter("name") method to get the parameter and passed on to the database.
    What's wrong with it..Please help me..
    Your help will be much appreciated.
    Thank You/
    Regards,
    Josephine

    You may want to post the error stack and a small amount of source code. As you most likely are aware, the null pointer exception is a generic java error. It means that something has tried to execute a method or value from an object that is null. It is rearly (if not never) found at compile time.

  • Failed to retrieve data from database?

    I am a new user
    When I try to Preview a document I am prompted to enter in database information.
    I have tried a few times to connect to my server and
    continuously keep getting the same error page
    No matter what I enter in the two fields, this is what pops up.
    "Failed to retrieve data from database"
    " Details: ADO Error Code:0x
    Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider SQL server
    Description: Invalid object name: ScratchWO.dbo.tblsyslistviewprint'.
    SQL State:42502
    Code:208"
    When the OLE DB(ADO) page opens and asks for a server and a database, what is needed to stop the error from happening
    If anyone has any information that would be great !

    SQL State:42502 means an user authorization error.  Check the user and it's access to the target database.

  • How to retrieve data from database to the structure(complicated)

    Hello everyone:
           I want to retrieve data from database to the structure. but the structure defined like this below:
    TOLERANZOB LIKE QAMV-TOLERANZOB
    TOLERANZOB1 LIKE QAMV-TOLERANZOB
    so how can I retrieve the data from the database ? make sure that the two fields contain data both.
    Thanks in advance .
    Regards
    Nick

    Hi Nick,
    To retreive data for TOLERANZOB from QAMV,
    If you know the key fields then use
    SELECT SINGLE TOLERANZOB FROM QAMV INTO TOLERANZOB WHERE keyfields.
    else, you can use
    SELECT TOLERANZOB FROM QAMV UPTO ONE ROWS INTO TOLERANZOB WHERE....
    Once you retreive the data using the select query, you can check if it is initial and if not move the data from TOLERANZOB to TOLERANZOB1.
    <b>Reward points for helpful answers.</b>

  • How to send error message to forms from Database Trigger

    Hi, Please help me to send error message to forms from Database Trigger?
    RgDs,
    Madesh.R.M

    You are correct, the On-Error trigger is a Forms trigger. However, if your Form is going to display the error generated by the database stored procedure or trigger - you might not see the database error in your Form unless you check the DBMS_ERROR_CODE in the On-Error trigger and manually display the Error Code and associated Text. I've see this happen with a co-worker. The Form she was working on was based on a table with an Before-Insert trigger. Because she was not explicitely handling the error from the Before-Insert trigger in the Forms On-Error trigger, her Form appeared to halt for no reason at all. Once she added code to the On-Error trigger in the Form to handle the DBMS_ERROR_CODE, she discovered the trigger was producing an error and was able to show the error to the user in the On-Error trigger.
    I understand the desire to keep as much as possbile in the database, but with that comes some extra coding in your Forms to handle this. This extra coding could easily be placed in a Forms Library, attached to a Form and called in the On-Error trigger. Your code could look like this:
    DECLARE
       /*This example assumes you have an Alert defined
          in your Form called: 'ERROR' */
       al_id    ALERT;
       al_text  VARCHAR2(200);  /* Max text of a Forms Alert message*/
       al_btn   NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    IF DBMS_ERROR_CODE != 0 THEN
       /* Error code is ORA-00000 Normal Successful completion
           So only handle non-zero errors  */
       al_text := DBMS_ERROR_CODE||':'||DBMS_ERROR_TEXT;
       al_id := Find_Alert('ERROR');
       set_alert_property(al_id, alert_message_text, al_text);
       al_btn := show_alert(al_id);
    END IF;
    END;Your original question was "How to send error message to forms from Database Trigger?" The answer is you don't because Forms already gets the database error code and database message through the Forms DBMS_ERROR_CODE and DBMS_ERROR_TEXT functions. Look these up in the Forms help and it should clear things up for you.

  • Error while retrieving data from PL/SQL Table using SELECT st. (Urgent!!!)

    Hi Friends,
    I am using Oracle 8.1.6 Server, & facing problems while retrieving data from a PL/SQL Table:
    CREATE or REPLACE PROCEDURE test_proc IS
    TYPE tP2 is TABLE of varchar2(10); --declared a collection

    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('**'||i);
    end;
    While executing the above procedure, I encountered foll. error:

    ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [0]
    Can anyone please help me, where the problem is??
    Is it Possible to retrieve data from PL/SQL TABLE using SELECT statement? & How ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Jay Raval.

    Thanks Roger for the Update.
    It means that have to first CREATE TYPE .. TABLE in database then only I can fire a Select statement on that TYPE.
    Actually I wanted to fire a Select statement on the TABLE TYPE, defined & declared in PLSQL stored procedure using DECLARE TYPE .. TABLE & not using CREATE TYPE .. TABLE.
    I was eager to know this, because my organization is reluctant in using CREATE TYPE .. TABLE defined in the database, so I was looking out for another alternative to access PL/SQL TABLE using Select statement without defining it database. It would have been good if I could access a PLSQL TABLE using Select statement Declared locally in the stored procedure.
    Can I summarize that to access a PL/SQL TABLE using SELECT statement, I have to first CREATE TYPE .. TABLE?
    If someone have any other idea on this, please do let me know.
    Thanks a lot for all help.
    Best Regards,
    Jay Raval.
    You have to define a database type...
    create type tP2 is table of varchar2(10)
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST_PROC
    IS
    dt2 tP2 := tP2('a','b','c');
    i NUMBER(8);
    begin
    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO i FROM TABLE(CAST (dt2 AS tP2));
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('**'||i);
    end;
    This will work.

  • Error while retrieving data from an ARRAY resultset

    We hava an Oracle stroed procedure which has a table type as its OUT parameter and where the data is being entered into. This data requries to be returned to the Java client through a JDBC connection. We have used the OracleTypes' ARRAY object for this. We are facing errors when retieving data from the ARRAY resultset
    The Oracle Package
    ----I created a table type called "PlSqlTable":
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE PlSqlTable IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(20);
    ----I defined this as the out parameter for my procedure :
    PROCEDURE testSQL
    arrayOutID OUT PlSqlTable
    Then populated the object :
    arrayOutID := PlSqlTable();
    arrayOutID.extend(4);
    arrayOutID(1):= 'Hello';
    arrayOutID(2) := 'Test';
    arrayOutID(3) := 'Ora';
    ----The procedure executes fine - all debug statements are printed ----right till the end of execution.
    The Java class
    ----Here is how I have defined the parameters :
    OracleCallableStatement stmnt = (OracleCallableStatement)connection.prepareCall("begin testSQL(?);end;");
    stmnt.registerOutParameter(2,OracleTypes.ARRAY,"PLSQLTABLE");
    System.out.println("Executing..");
    stmnt.execute();
    System.out.println("Executed..");
    ARRAY outArray = stmnt.getARRAY(1);
    System.out.println("Got array");
    ResultSet rset = outArray.getResultSet();
    System.out.println("Got Resultset..");
    int i = 1;
    while(rset.next()){
    System.out.println("VALUE : " + rset.getString(i));
    i = i+1;
    ----On execution, the debug messages display :
    Executing..
    Executed..
    Got array
    Got Resultset..
    VALUE : 1
    VALUE : Test
    ERROR : java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column index
    ----But I have populated upto 3 values in th e procedure. Then why this error ?
    PLLLEEEASE help me out on this.
    Thanks, Sathya

    haven't worked with db arrays but I think your problem is here:int i = 1;
    while(rset.next()){
         System.out.println("VALUE : " + rset.getString(i));
         i = i+1;
    }In the first loop you are retrieving the value from column 1(rs.getString(1)), which is OK, but in the second loop, you are trying to retrieve a value from the second column(rs.getString(2)) which doesn't exist. Try this code which only reads from column1:
    while(rset.next()){
         System.out.println("VALUE : " + rset.getString(1));

  • EVDRE encountered an error when retrieving data from web server

    Hi
    When I am trying to open Data Input=>Build a schedule using a dynamic template in BPC version for SAP netweaver, I am getting the below error "EVDRE encountered an error retrieving data from the Web Server".
    I am not able to open any template, every time I am getting the same message. I have tried again after reprocessing all the dimension.
    Even I have tried in appset APSHELL also, there also I am getting the same error
    Request you to help me to resolve the above error which will allow me to proceed further.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Venkat

    Hi,
    Beside Nilanjan's solution, this error could also occur when the expansion is running more rows than the Excel limit allows (65'000 rows and 256 cols for Excel 2003)...
    Even when you're using suppress field to reduce the number of rows, the first sequence is to retrieve the complete dataset before performing any suppression. And this could of course exceed the limit sometimes.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Patrick

    I will not get the error and I will get results.
    Any reasons why the DataDirect driver is producing errors?
