ERROR using SQL Server 2000, FOR UPDATE clause problem

Hi All,
Because our main target for RDBMS mostly SqlServer2000, I try to use ADF BC with one. I successfully run the BC with Tester, scrolling up and down, BUT when i try to make changes and do commit, I receive ERROR, I have tried both JDBC Driver from Microsoft and jTDS, both FAILS.
I have set the 'Default Locking Mode ..' to 'optimistic'
(default is 'pessimistic'), it doesn't help.
Here is the error :
With Microsoft JDBC Driver :
(oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26080: Error while selecting entity for Departments
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.sql.SQLException) [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer] FOR UPDATE cannot be specified on a READ ONLY cursor.
With jTDS JDBC Driver :
(oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26080: Error while selecting entity for Departments
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.sql.SQLException) Line 1: FOR UPDATE clause allowed only for DECLARE CURSOR.
Pls any body help...
Thank you,
Krist

Krist,
we added a new SQL Flavor 'SQLServer' in JDeveloper 10.1.2
This was implemented to handle special SQL syntax of SQLServer, different from SQL92 (among others the FOR UPDATE problem you're facing).
For new projects, you can select this flavor during their creation. For projects that were defined with Flavor SQL92, you can switch to SQLServer at runtime by setting the parameter jbo.SQLBuilder=SQLServer (in your Application Module configuration or as a java option -Djbo.SQLBuilder=...)

Didier.

    Dear,
    When u install original sql server, might be it should not ask for product key. In sql source there is one vbs script, just click on that vbs script and ur installation of sql server is going to start. This is upto my knowledge.

  • Using MS SQL Server 2000 for WLCS 3.50 DB

    I'm using WebLogic 6.0sp1 with Commerce Server 3.5 and I've successfully
    installed the demo. I would like to create another commerce server
    installation, this time using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 as the database
    instead of Cloudscape. I've downloaded and installed the BEA jDriver
    for MS SQL 7/2000 and tested it using dbping. My question is: where are
    the db scripts for creating and populating the commerce database? I've
    found the WLCS_320_DB_DDL_1.1.zip file on the BEA downloads site, but
    I'm concerned that this schema is for Version 3.20 of Commerce Server.
    Is there a similar file for WLCS 3.50? If not, is it safe to use this
    one?
    If this is posted in the wrong place, please let me know and I'll repost
    to the appropriate newsgroup as required.
    Sincerely,
    Michael Schulz

    Hi Michael,
    At this time SQL Server 2000 is not certified for WLCS 3.5. Since the
    schema has changed between 3.2 and 3.5, running the 3.2 scripts is not a
    good idea.
    I can tell you that certification is in progress for SQL Server 2000. Your
    best bet is to contact your Sales Representative to get an idea of when
    certification might be coming.
    I hope this helps.

  • Improve the performance in stored procedure using sql server 2008 - esp where clause in very big table - Urgent

    Hi,
    I am looking for inputs in tuning stored procedure using sql server 2008. l am new to performance tuning in sql,plsql and oracle. currently facing issue in stored procedure - need to increase the performance by code optmization/filtering the records using where clause in larger table., the requirement is Stored procedure generate Audit Report which is accessed by approx. 10 Admin Users typically 2-3 times a day by each Admin users.
    It has got CTE ( common table expression ) which is referred 2  time within SP. This CTE is very big and fetches records from several tables without where clause. This causes several records to be fetched from DB and then needed processing. This stored procedure is running in pre prod server which has 6gb of memory and built on virtual server and the same proc ran good in prod server which has 64gb of ram with physical server (40sec). and the execution time in pre prod is 1min 9seconds which needs to be reduced upto 10secs or so will be the solution. and also the exec time differs from time to time. sometimes it is 50sec and sometimes 1min 9seconds..
    Pl provide what is the best option/practise to use where clause to filter the records and tool to be used to tune the procedure like execution plan, sql profiler?? I am using toad for sqlserver 5.7. Here I see execution plan tab available while running the SP. but when i run it throws an error. Pl help and provide inputs.
    Thanks,
    Viji

    You've asked a SQL Server question in an Oracle forum.  I'm expecting that this will get locked momentarily when a moderator drops by.
    Microsoft has its own forums for SQL Server, you'll have more luck over there.  When you do go there, however, you'll almost certainly get more help if you can pare down the problem (or at least better explain what your code is doing).  Very few people want to read hundreds of lines of code, guess what's it's supposed to do, guess what is slow, and then guess at how to improve things.  Posting query plans, the results of profiling, cutting out any code that is unnecessary to the performance problem, etc. will get you much better answers.

  • Using SQL Server 2000 XA Driver

    first off, I am a newbie
    I installed Workshop 8.1, and setup a Domain to use by creating a Weblogic Domain
    and then extending it with a Workshop extension.
    I want to use it to connect to a SQL Server 2000 backend (I am imitating the Java
    Control tutorials without using the Tutorial part to see what problems I encounter).
    I want to used the 4xa driver, but none of them work, although if I try to use
    the non-xa driver it is fine.
    I remember reading the Workshop can only have one non-xa driver, and that it also
    must use the cgDatasource via pointbase.
    I would be very happy to use the s2k 4xa driver, but when I try it with an XA
    in weblogic I always get "no suitable driver found", regardless of whether it
    is weblogics, data-directs, j-net-directs, etc. This happens even if it is the
    only pool, so I know it is not connected to pointbase.
    I even ran the osql command to set my sql server up for stored procedure support.
    For now what I have done is switched the cgPool over to an xa driver, and have
    the sql as a non-xa (which works fine).
    Any ideas?
    thanks!

    thanks for the suggestion!
    What I ended up doing was playing around and I determined what I think Iwas doing
    that was causing the problem. I was using the Weblogic ConfigurationWizard to
    change the JDBC pools and test them. When they did not work there Icancelled
    it out.
    I think what this did was change the pointbase location in thepointbase.ini in
    my server to go to the %bea_home%\common\eval\pointbase. Since theworkshop db
    was located in my server dir, and not that one, it was throwing an error.
    I got around it by copying back the old config.xml, making some changesthere
    and also to the pointbase.ini, and also launching the pointbase manuallyfrom
    my server dir when configuring it.
    So I have learned my lesson, use the console, not the configurationwizard, after
    initial setup. If I had the time I would try to recreate it so I could letBEA
    know, but I am just happy that it is working...
    thanks again for your help!

    thanks, I guess I assumed that because the type 4 driver worked, thetype
    4xa should,
    and have the files already included via the weblogic.jar. oops.
    I added the wlsqlserver.jar, wlutil.jar, and wl.base.jar to my
    classpath.
    Now
    it appears to work... yeah!
    Unfortunately I have encountered a problem that has happened to meat
    least three
    times. The "workshop" db in pointbase is gone. The only solution Iknow of
    at
    this point is to uninstall and reinstall. I can not laundh the
    piontbase
    console
    because it requires the db "workshop", or at least appears to - acatch-22.
    I also can't simply reinstall BEA over the top because it will notlet me,
    and
    I am not sure what part to uninstall, reinstall to get that db back,short
    of
    uninstalling/reinstalling the whole thing. Since this has happenedto me
    three
    times (I am a master at breaking things - I have also wiped out theconfig.xml
    through extending the domain a couple of times), I should probablystart
    experimenting
    since I suspect that I will unfortunately do this again.
    Thanks for your help, it appears that the classpath inclusion of thosefiles might
    have been exactly what was needed for the 4xa to work!

    Hello Matt,
    A driver being listed in the connection pool drop down, doesn't
    necessarily

    Can you try placing the driver jar in the server classpath ?
    The requirement of one non xa driver is due to the fact that JMS
    cannot
    work
    with an XA data source.

  • Creating a connection pool using SQL Server 2000, Sun ONE Application Serve

    Has any one succesfully configured SQL Server 2000 to work with Sun ONE Application Server 7 on Windows 2000 server service pack 4? I am embarking on a new J2EE project and I need to configure it as soon as possible.
    The problem I am having is that, when I ping the data souce name, there is a connection error.
    I have set the data source name and other details as follows:
    Under JDBC, I have set the parameters for the connection pool as follows:
    Data Source Name:      com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    Database Name:          jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433;DatabaseName=Test
    User:               test
    Password:          test
    In the JVM settings page, I have set the prefix class path as follows for the location of the Microsoft JDBC
    drivers that I downloaded as follows:
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/msbase.jar
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/msutil.jar
    c:\microsoft\drivers/lib/mssqlserver.jar
    Under JVM Options, there is a strange setting which I don't understand: perhaps this is the cause of the
    connction error?

    Hi;
    Yes you can run against any DB if you have latest JDBC driver installed.
    Please see this 2 thread which give you the idea.

  • Cursor with for update clause problem

    Hi all,
    We are having this problem with Oracle 8.1.7 where in we have a cursor with for update clause. The PL/SQL script used to work fine with Oracle 8.0.5 but is causing problems with Oracle 8.1.7. What the script is ending up doing in 8.1.7 is that it updates only one record instead of updating close to 60000 which it used to do in Oracle 8.0.5
    The script just hangs after updating one record. We have replicated the same problem.
    Has anyone seen this error before and attained resolution?
    Thanks

    Hello ,
    I have found the same / very close to the same problem. I tried the code below in Oracle 10.2.0.1 and got the following error after the first loop.

  • MS SQL Server 2000 and JDBC Driver Problem

    I was wondering if you could help me. I installed Java 1.4.1 on my Win2K machine along with MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC Service Pack 1 drivers.
    The drivers and JDK installed perfectly and I properly set my class path. Yet everytime I try to execute my code I get the: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver error.
    Any idea why? Is it posisible that the JDBC drivers are not comaptible with Java 1.4? I also installed 1.3.1 and I get the same issue. Let me know if you have any insisghts. Much thanks.
    [email protected]

    Those drivers are perfectly compatible with JDK 1.4.1. I've used them successfully.
    CNF Exception ALWAYS means that the class loader can't find the JAR in the CLASSPATH. You said you "properly" set your CLASSPATH. Am I right in assuming that you mean a Win2K environment variable?
    I think that's a bad idea. I don't have one on my machines at all.
    I always set the CLASSPATH myself when I compile and run an app, to make sure that I always have exactly what I need.
    If you're running Tomcat, it doesn't even look at the system CLASSPATH as far as I know. If you're using this in a Web app, but those JARs in your WEB-INF/lib directory and deploy your stuff as a WAR file. Tomcat will find it in the CLASSPATH for sure then.
    Let me know if either of those suggestions hits the mark. If not, send more info and I'll try again. - MOD

    hi,
    i'm working with netbeans 5.5, ms sql server 2000 and servlets (mvc without frameworks). When i launch my webapp with netbeans, with bundled tomcat 5.5, it works fine but when i export and deploy it under an independent tomcat (5.5 too) it crashes:

    commons-dbcp, and, of course,
    commons: beanutils, collections, lang & loggingii did everything: registered the classpath (with ms drivers), checked for typos, too short names, to long names, whitespaces, made sure jars were in WEB-INF\LIB and both in commons\lib, even copied commons\lib from bundled tomcat to the independent tomcat.
    Besides, if i change type, in context.xml, to
    net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbcx.JtdsDataSourceand/or add factory property
    factory="org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory"
    or
    net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbcx.JtdsObjectFactory
    this time netbeans' tomcat doesn't find their classes even when they are in commons lib and webinf-lib
    I've searched over and over and nothing works, as far as it seems, this is a quite common problem with no clear solution; but what puzzles me most is why under netbeans everything works smoothly and under an independent tomcat, which, i must insist, is the same version of the bundled one, it's such a nightmatre?

  • Sql Server Partitioning for Update

    hi ...
    i have created on my sql server database a table that hold transactions on my database , some of updating process take more time for update .
    my question is is the partitioning for this table will be useful and decrease the updating time , or will be the same
    Thanks for attention

    IMO, I would never partition a table which had 10,000 rows.  You might want to if there is a good partitioning key and you expect this table to get much larger in the future.
    In any case, on a 10,000 row table, I can't see any scenario where partitioning will significantly improve performance.
    You would be much better off either improving the indexing and/or rewriting the queries to be more efficient.

  • Error with SQL Server 2000 and Tomcat 4.1.12

    I'm using a JDBC Datasource with Tomcat 4.1.12 as follows.
    Server.xml snippet:
    <Resource name="jdbc/indemand" scope="Shareable" type="javax.sql.DataSource"/>
    <ResourceParams name="jdbc/indemand">
    <parameter>
    <name>validationQuery</name>
    <value>select top 100 * from Subscriber</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>url</name>
    <value>jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://vc34:1433;databaseName=TibcoClearHouse</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>password</name>
    <value>tibco_user</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>maxActive</name>
    <value>10</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>maxWait</name>
    <value>5000</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>driverClassName</name>
    <value>com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.SQLServerDataSource</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>username</name>
    <value>tibco_user</value>
    </parameter>
    <parameter>
    <name>maxIdle</name>
    <value>2</value>
    </parameter>
    </ResourceParams>
    END OF Server.xml Snippet
    My Web XML specifies the JDBC resource as follows:
    <resource-ref>
         <description>Clearinghouse DB Connectio</description>
         <res-ref-name>jdbc/indemand</res-ref-name>
         <res-type>com.microsoft.jdbcx.sqlserver.SQLServerDataSource</res-type>
         <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
    </resource-ref>
    When I cause a database access within my application, I get the following horrifying result. It's the "Error Establishing Socket" error that's worrying me, as I'm using the native Microsoft SQL Server Drivers. The ones in my lib directory are msutil.jar, msutil.jar, and mssqlserver.jar
    Any thoughts?
    John

    You can check two things
    1. Whether the ports to the database server are blocked by a fire wall.
    2. And more simpler and most probably the case here, you can try to findout if you can see the database server from the webserver. i.e. ping the database server from a console in the webserver.

  • Error migrating SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle.

    Hi,
    I am new in SQL Developer.
    I read most of the help manuals available on the net.
    I am able to create connections to both SQL Server and Oracle database.
    I am also able to create the migration repository on the Oracle database.
    SQL server connection - TestSQL
    Oracle database connection - TestOracle
    Migration Repository - Migration_Repository.
    Here is the problem am facing:
    When I start Migrate to Oracle wizard, by right clicking the TestSQL database, I followed all the required steps and enter the necessary information. -
    It starts creating the project - say, TEST but after that it gave the following error:
    Migration actions have failed. Check the migration report for more details. : ORA-01400: cannot insert null into ("MIGRATIONS"."MD_PROJECT_ID").
    Please help.

    Thanks for your reply.
    You are correct, there were some permission missing on the migration repository user.
    I have given permissions and it worked fine.
    but I can say that required permission mentioned in other posts and blogs on the Internet are not sufficient.
    One has to provide more admin priviligies to this user.
