I think that my tutorial on JSTL in :

is far better , hands-on and comprehensive than the recommended books by SUN.

Kindly use this tutorial on JSTL instead of the buggy and long-winding books.

Thoughts:
This first link was very difficult to read.
The second link is in a much more readable format than the first.
The tutorial seems to cover JSTL1.0 only, and not the newer JSTL1.1 and how it integrates with JSP2.0.
In fact the author refers to a JSP book for having an "error" using the JSTL1.1 uri, as opposed to the JSTL1.0. If you don't have that basic understanding, then you lose my vote at this point.

Recommendations for Book on Learning Java on Mac OS X Tiger?

Can anyone recommend a book title or two on Learning Java on Mac OS X Tiger? A generic learn-java-book is fine -- it just has to not be Windows-only. ie. the examples or included CD should at least include instructions for running the examples on a JAVA IDE available for other platforms such as Mac OS X (e.g. Eclipse).

Just download eclipse and do sun's java tutorials. They're very well written and cover pretty much anything you need to do with Java.

I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry.

I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it. I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go. I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it. My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue. It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking. It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above. I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes. It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me. She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

I am Getting Error in Portal when Booking Time sheet in Record working time Link. Getting below Error.
"Enter activity type only in conjunction with cost center"...I have entered data in KP26.
But for the same employee if i am booking the Efforts through R/3 (CAT2 Transaction) not getting the error. Successfully able to release the efforts it is storing in CATSDB.
PLease advice on this.

Error: "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing"

I book a book via the iPad. The book appeared in my library no problem with the "new" tag and stuff, but when I tap it to read I get an error "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing." Any ideas? I'm on the road, so I haven't synced or backed up or anything..
I've also verified that I have a good connection, etc. I'm able to hit the "store" button and browse the store no prob, as well as web, etc.
Any thoughts?

I believe I may have the answer to these many concerns.
When a book is over 20 or so megs, iBook will sometimes make an attempt to download on the iPad (when it should not). This causes problems. Perhaps the one you are experiencing. Therefore you have to wait until you are on a wifi connection before purchasing dictionary-like books. But if you've already made the mistake of downloading, theres no guarantee wifi will correct this.
What worked for me (like others have already mentioned) is that if you have an iphone or touch you can download it from there, sync with your computer and sync your iPad later. The book(s) will transfer just fine as long as you have this enabled on your devices.
Initially this didn't work for me because in my frustration with a prior issue I took the liberty to create another iTunes account. Therefore iPad purchases were not visible on my phone. So be sure to have the same accounts activated on your devices and iTunes.
Yet even further diagnostics may need to be explored as I'm still prompted to provide my password every time i open iBooks (as if the download is still pending). Kinda afraid to revert to factory settings over a small issue. In the coming update Apple should fix these problems altogether. Hope this helps!

Error opening external DTD 'book.dtd'

I know this may be something simple, but can't get it to work. I have a local (on my local network) dtd file that I'm trying to use for validation on my xml file.
My first two lines in the xml are:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<!DOCTYPE book SYSTEM "D:\tmp\book.dtd">
When trying to parse it in Java, I get the exception thrown of:
Error opening external DTD 'book.dtd'.
I checked, and the file has full permissions for read and write, and it is in the directory specified.
How can I use an external dtd file on my local network for my DTD validation?

Need help quick, installing beta tutorial

I'm running the beta tutorial shell scrpt
/bin/sh j2sdkee-1_4-beta-doc-unix-tutorial.sh
I'm installing the 1.4 tutorial addendum on linux, into /usr/java,
running this script from
/usr/java.
and I am having a problem with the install shield. It asks me to
'Enter the location of your Java(TM) 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) v1.4
installation'
and I have this stuff in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03
and when I enter the query with that directory, or with that
directory /bin (as in /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03/bin) or with
/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_03/jre/bin or... you get the message.
Whatever I enter, this installer comes back and tells me
'The directory you entered does not contain a Java 2 SDK, Enterprise
Edition v1.4 installaton'.
What gives?

Are you sure the directory isn't j2sdkee1.4.0_03 ?? I thought that was the general naming structure for the Enterprise Edition, but I haven't downloaded the beta, so it may be different.

Recommendation for Book To Learn Photoshop CS3

I have had Photoshop CS3 for a while now and I still feel like a beginner.Can you recommend a book that would teach me how to edit photos to improve lighting etc. I don't like learning from video programs because you can't look back to revise techniques easily enough.The trouble is I don't use PS often enough to get very good at it so I need to be able to refer to instructions easily. I don't need a complete beginner book but I do need something that isn't full of technical jargon. Can you recommend anything?

Quite a few people recommend the classroom in a book series from Adobe. A search on Amazon will provide you with a whole slew of books to choose from. If you scroll the page down far enough you will see comments left by people on their thoughts of the books. Even though you search on Amazon does not mean you have to purchase from them.
Problem with books is trying to read and do at the same time while keeping your page. I really recommend videos since it is so simple to just drag the timeline back to the point you were stuck at.

Error to open address book database

Hi. I've been using the Palm Pilot i705 without the email feature for several years and on a succession of computers. Never had a problem. Today I can't access it on my pc. I get "error to open address book database."
Is the fix to reinstall the software from the cd? If so how do I save my existing databases or would the subsequent hot sync after reinstall pull in the database? My last hot sync was successful and is my most current.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pat.

FYI,
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.

Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
