Errors running MSBuild after targeting the 4.5.1 framework - Websites not building.

What I'm trying to do;
Update a lot of projects in a solution because a necessary .dll now targets the .NET 4.5.1 framework and is used by several of my projects in my solution
Platform;
My Machine;
MicroSoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2013
v.12.0.21005.1 REL
Micorsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.51641
Build Server is the same.  That is a Windows Server 2012 R2
The problem;
When I check in the code (which builds and runs fine on my machine) and run my MSBuild project I get the following;
1) LOTS of messages when the websites try to build (the other projects build fine)
warning MSB3275: The primary reference "c:\...\SearchEngineServices.dll" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the assembly "DB, Version=1.0.809.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null" which was built against the
".NETFramework,Version=v4.5.1" framework. This is a higher version than the currently targeted framework ".NETFramework,Version=v3.5".
warning MSB3258: The primary reference "c:\...\SearchEngineServices.dll" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the .NET Framework assembly "System.Web.RegularExpressions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
which has a higher version "4.0.0.0" than the version "2.0.0.0" in the current target framework.
warning MSB3268: The primary reference "c:\...\SearchEngineServices.dll" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the framework assembly "System.Xaml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"
which could not be resolved in the currently targeted framework. ".NETFramework,Version=v3.5". To resolve this problem, either remove the reference "c:\...\SearchEngineServices.dll" or retarget your application to a framework version which
contains "System.Xaml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089".
(I just grabbed a few to include all of the MSB warning numbers - there are hundreds of these messages)
2) This message...
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe -v /LITWebServices -p LITWebServices\ -u -f "c:\mileg\tfs\build\MILeg\MILegNightlyReleaseBuild\bin\Mixed Platforms\Release\_PublishedWebsites\LITWebServices\\"
That v2.0.50727 seems wrong!
3) this message...
c:\mileg\tfs\build\MILeg\MILegNightlyReleaseBuild\src\LITWebServices\web.config(34): error ASPCONFIG: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. [c:\mileg\tfs\build\MILeg\MILegNightlyReleaseBuild\src\LITWebServices.metaproj]
The 'targetFramework' tag was added to the LITWebservices project's web.config when I took the framework up to 4.5.1 but it's not recognized on the build server.
These are some of the things I've tried;
goofing around with the MSBuild project I made the following changes... (I've cut a lot of stuff out of the build xml)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Project DefaultTargets="DesktopBuild" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003" ToolsVersion="4.0">
<==changed the ToolsVersion from 3.5 to 4.0
  <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\TeamBuild\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Build.targets"/>
  <ProjectExtensions>

  </ProjectExtensions>
  <PropertyGroup>
    <ProductVersion>10.0.11107</ProductVersion> <==Added this ProductVersion tag
    <TargetFrameworkVersion>v4.0</TargetFrameworkVersion>
<==Added this TargetFrameworkVersion tag

    <BuildDirectoryPath>C:\mileg\tfs\build</BuildDirectoryPath>
    <DropLocation>\\devmileg\drop</DropLocation>
    <WorkItemFieldValues>Symptom=build break;Steps To Reproduce=Start the build using Team Build</WorkItemFieldValues>
    <UpdateAssociatedWorkItems>true</UpdateAssociatedWorkItems>
  </PropertyGroup>
  <ItemGroup>
    <SolutionToBuild Include="$(SolutionRoot)\MILeg.sln"/>
  </ItemGroup>
 </Project>
I think I need to fix the fact that the build is trying to run the aspnet_compiler.exe from the v2.0.50727 folder. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe
Do you think that is the main problem, and if so, How do I do that?
Crazy question.  What would happen if I put the aspnet_compiler.exe from the v2.0 folder into the 4.0 folder?

Hello JJQuinn,
I don't recommend you do that since I'm not sure if there is any upgrade to this tool.
So I checked my 4.0 folder I can find the tool aspnet_compiler.exe and I compared the two files
As you can see, they are totally different. So I believe you will still get errors if you copy 2.0 version to 4.0 version.
I have this idea, if you still want to target to .NET 2.0 version, please enable .NET 3.5 on your OS. It seems it is not by default enabled on Server 2012 or Win 8.
If .NET 4.0 folder missed the aspnet_compiler.exe, you may need to fix .NET 4.0 first, try sfc /scannow to repair your OS and check whether the .NET 4.0 folder will have that file.
Best regards,
Barry

    Use Tony's suggestion. I am running it right now and it is awesome. I love Mozilla but they basically screwed all of those older Macs over. Come on Mozilla. These Macs still work, and there are plenty of people with them out there.

    Entry point errors can often be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of. If that doesn't help read on...
    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
    If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
    which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
    Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • In Win 7 64bit I get the following error upon every reboot.  "The procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library "    This happened yesterday, 8/23/2011 after downloading Apple iTunes 10.4.

    In the case that your OS is Windows 7 (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "libxml2.dll"
    3. Open new windows explorer, to to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Paste file "libxml2.dll" to the location.
    5. Reboot your computer, it should not display that message, it should be clear.

  • Pro 9 Users Receive "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

    Users with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Windows XP) are not able to open PDFs created on the server. They receive the error message:
    “There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.”
    Even if the users save to disk and try to re-open, the error still occurs.
    This error did not surface in our QA testing because we were testing with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8. What can the difference be? Is there additional information that I can look for in order to troubleshoot this?
    Thank you for looking at my post. Please provide guidance in trying to resolve this issue.
    Elsa

    So, I'm not sure how much this will help but if you save the pdf AHW_Test_05112009xx.pdf and open it in a text editor, and go all the way down to the bottom where the %%EOF marker is, it looks as if the html page is getting appended to the end of the pdf. I recieved the "This file was damaged..." error in Adobe 7.1.0 when trying to open it but if you remove the html at the end, it opens up just fine.
    It appears that whatever's appending the html to the end is causing the issue.
    Below is what the file looks like near the end after the EOF:
    startxref

    %%EOF

  • My PDFs with form fields get "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." on anothers computer, PC and MAC

    Im creating PDFs through InDesign and using Acrobat Pro 9 to add fields.  I save them to allow ADobe Reader people to use them.  Everything works fine on Pro and Reader on my end with a PC as well as someone elses PC.  But one person using Mac said some forms work and some dont.  Those that dont get the error "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."  Ive resaved them and made sure they work and same problem.  There is nothing overly coplex about the PDFs either, a date field at the most.  They are using Reader 9.1.
    I found out the other day that one person who can open them adds info to them saves them and send over to that other person and cannot open any of them after they have been edited, same error.  He even tried on a PC and still gets it.
    I dont know what to do.  I know it has to be on his end and not mine.  What else can I suggest to him??

    It sounds like they are using an earlier version of Acrobat or Reader, though you said Reader 9.1. If you add some features in AA9 that are new, it appears that earlier versions see the new features as damaged files. At least that is my guess. Try using Reduce File Size or PDF Optimize to save to an earlier version and see if that helps. The other option is that you are getting them messed up in e-mail because many client look at PDF files as ascii and do not encrypt them. In that case force the encryption. You can also send them in ZIP form.

  • Adobe pdf problem; the message comes up:- There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

    Dear all
    I have got  3 mac computers. 2011 13 inch air, 27 inch mac and 2010 pro. latest softwares. all of them have a problem in opening pdf files;esp older files. the error message comes up 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.'
    I have reinstalled reader, checked software updates etc.
    Any help will be appreciated

    It isn't likely to be a problem with the software. You have two different applications which have no interaction between them, neither of which can open the same group of files on three different systems. It's possible that one application has a problem, but not both or that one system has a problem, but not all three. Typically if there were software corruption, it would not show as a failure to open a specific type of file, but in opening and running the application itself.
    I realise that that doesn't really help you since it doesn't resolve the poblem, but I think you need to start with a known-good pdf, preferably one you can download from an internet source, and see whether that opens. If it does, then it would confirm that the software is working properly.
    For a known-good PDF to download, try one of the manuals from the support site here.

  • I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!

    I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
    If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • Please Help! Error message: Incorrect serial number, The serial number you entered is not valid. Click OK to retry serial number.???

    My old PC crashed and died, and I am unable to deactivate the licence of Photoshop Elements 7.
    I re-installed Photoshop Elements 7 via a trial download from Adobe website onto my new PC, Windows 8.1 single language.
    My serial number is not accepted.
    Error message: 'Incorrect serial number, The serial number you entered is not valid. Click OK to retry serial number'.
    Customer help care is not helpful and keep ending my chat before I get a solution.
    Can someone please help me and let me know how I can rectify this problem!!!

    Thank you Benjamin MItchley.  I reviewed the chat log and I can confirm that they are correct we do not provide installation support for Photoshop Elements 7 due to the age of the software title.  Photoshop Elements 7 also does not support activation so there is no risk that you were unable to deactivate the software on your previous computer.
    I am showing the serial number under your account was provided from an equipment manufacturer.  It is possible there may have been a customized installer for that version.  Have you contacted the computer manufacturer to obtain the installation files for the copy of Photoshop Elements 7 included with your computer?
    Since you did not migrate/transfer over any files it is unlikely there is a software issue preventing the installation.  You can try running the CC Cleaner Tool to ensure that no corrupt licensing files may be preventing the installation process.  You can find details of the use of the CC Cleaner Tool at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

  • There was an error opening this document.  The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

    Good Day all
    When busy doing internet banking on www.absa.co.za and I try to print a confirmation, I get the following error message: "C:\Documents and Settings\%user profile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\%folder name%\%file name%.pdf
    Could not open file.
    File not found."
    I've managed to locate the actual file that it's looking for, but when I try and open the file using either Adobe or Foxit Reader, I get the following error message: "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."
    I've un-installed Adobe and installed version 9.1 for this particular user. This happened a while ago and then an un-installation and re-installation of Adobe solved the issue. This time, unfortunately, it didn't. I then un-installed Adobe and tried again, UNSUCCESSFULLY. So I loaded Foxit Reader, also without any success.
    If there's anyone out there who could possibly help, please do so... It's extremely urgent.
    Please find the errors attached as well.
    Regards,
    ME

    I contacted the company and they asked me to try using another browser, which I did... and using FireFox worked
