Escaping characters with -- output method="html" --

Hi all,
I am finding trouble with the
<xsl:output method="html"/>
comand.
I am passing a variable to an XSL which contains the session ID of my application. This session ID contains '%'s, and the XSL parser is escaping those characters to '%25' if I set the above command as said.
<xsl:stylesheet...>
<xsl:param name="paramX">#</xsl:param>
</xsl:stylesheet>
Using <xsl:output method="xml"/> is not an option.
Is there any way to tell the parser not to escape a subset of the XSL????

The XSLT 1.0 specification requires processors to escape the values of URI attributes in HTML output mode.
See section 16.2 of the XSLT 1.0 spec.
"The html output method should escape non-ASCII characters in URI attribute values using the method recommended in Section B.2.1 of the HTML 4.0 Recommendation.

<input type="text" name="{NAME}" size="{DISPLAY_LENGTH}" maxlength="{LENGTH}"></input>

<input type="text" name="in1" size="10" maxlength="20"/>
</HTML>
While IE can handle this Netscape can not. Is there anyway to generate completely cross browser complient HTML with XSL?

Xmltype.transform and xsl:output method="html"

hi, 9.2.0.4 winxp,
i wonder whether xmltype.transform regards any output instructions in the stylesheet. i requested any of xml, html and text and always got the same result?
any ideas or hints to more info?

xsl:output method="html"/ - supported?

Is the otutput method "html" supported in
the recent version of the XML/XSL parser?
I was trying to use the <BR> tag with the
<xsl utput method="xml"/> declaration but
I got an XSLException error message
indicating a not well-formed XML document.
Then I tried the following output method
declaration: <xsl utput method="html"/>
but I got the same result?!
Here's a simple XSL stylesheet I was using:

XSLT replace ignores output method

Hi,
i'm using OSB 10gR3 and in my proxy service i'm doing a XSLT replace action.
My XSLT has the following instruction at the beginning:
+<xsl:output method="html" encoding="us-ascii"/>+
which works just fine in every xlst processor except OSB. It seems OSB simply ignores this tag and always processes the output in XML.
Any ideas on how i can force both output method and encoding ?

There is a mistake in the statement - The xml I have for transfromation has special characters like "&" inside CDATA sections. In the output sql file (the result of transformation) these special characters are output escaped. They appear as "&".

XSLProcessor support of xsl:output method="text"?

I'm having trouble getting my processor to format the output as a big string. Actually, the output is html, but because of some browser bugs I want to avoid linebreaks between tags. Specifically table cell tags <td> and the content of the cell.
Right now, even though I write my xsl like this:
<table><tr><td>content</td></tr></table>
the processor formats the output like this:
<table>
<tr>
<td>content</td>
</tr>
</table>
Is there any way to avoid these line breaks and indentation?
When I add the lines
<xsl:output method="text"/>
<xsl:output indent="no"/>
to my xsl document, nothing happens.

Oh. One more thing. I tried parsing that very simple xml file using the xsl sheet you suggested with the class XSLSample that downloads with the parser. Same problem. Any ideas?

Embedding javascript with xslt generated html

I'm using xml/xslt with xdk to generate html with embedded javascript. The solution works except that I am having problem with proper inclusion of the javascript file. I uset this line:
<xsl:template match="/">
<head><title>Screener</title>

<script language="javascript1.2" src="./screener.js">
</script>
I have tested the xslt sheet via IE5 and msxml3 processor and it works fine including loading the javascript file.
Now using XDK and servlet it doesn't seem to retrieve the javascript file so all javascript function do not work.
I would appreciate any help.

All those files are in same directory i changed the .xsl file to be i am changing at the right place.
However, as backup i tried the following:

and here is the html output:

So everything is being output correctly except for  it works but
i was wondering if the present behavior is what's supposed to happen.

Web Logic 10.3 upgrade causes issues with escaped characters in JSP.

We recently upgraded our application servers from Weblogic 9.2 to Weblogic 10.3 and we are having an issue with escaped characters in a JSP code. Here is an example of what we are seeing:
var convertedBody1 = document.getElementById('body').value.replace(/\$FIRST_NAME\$/g, firstName);
This code works in Weblogic 9.2. In Weblogic 10.3 we have to make the following changes:
var convertedBody1 = document.getElementById('body').value.replace(/\$FIRST_NAME\$/g, firstName);

response.setContentType(“text/html; charset=UTF-8”);
</jsp:scriptlet>
Inside the <f:view> on the jspx file.

Issue with escaping characters and php

We are working on a web page using php and Oracle. We have troubles dealing with the diferent escaping characters when inserting/retrieving data (magic quotes is on but adding the backslash doesn't help :( ).
We would like to know the correct way of dealing with those characters ( ' " / /n ...).

Do NOT use addslashes/stripslashes to escape your queries. I use this function to do the escaping:
function escapeSQL($string, $wildcard=false)
$result = str_replace("'","''",$string);
if ($wildcard == true) $result = str_replace("%","%%",$result);
return $result;
It basically replaces ' with ''.
If you set $wildcard to false, then '%' is considered to be an actual '%' (for 'like' expressions). If you set it to true, a % is escaped to %% too.

Reports with output to excel - special characters not displayed correctly.

I have a portal with data from 5 continents. In many places special or national characters are used in names. My portal can show most of these characters correctly and so can my version of Microsoft Office Excel. When text with these characters are copy/pasted from the screen to an excel sheet, they are also shown correctly in excel. The problem arises in portal reports, where output is set to Excel, then special characters are often displayed as strange double characters, for example á is shown as Ã¡ . Does anybody have a solution to that?

No answers have been posted yet and now I have found a solution myself. The portal report is run and output set to Excel. The resulting file is opened, and a new row is inserted in the top of the sheet. In the first field in this row is written the characters *\xEF\xBB\xBF*. It is called a UTF-8 BOM, and when written in the start of a text file, it will tell the program that opens it, that UTF-8 encoding is used.<br><br>
The file is saved with the file type CSV (semicolon separated) (*.csv) and excel is closed. When you click on the CSV-file, it is opened by excel, and now all characters with accents, circumflexes and umlauts are shown correctly.<br><br>

occasional escaped characters within a body of "normal" text, eg

Now, the handy String.fromCharCode(charCode) call works a
dream if instead of the above I have
hellô sunšine
Do you know if there is an equivalent call that takes the
named entities rather than the numeric ones? Clearly I can just do
some text substitution to get the mapping, but this means rather
more by-hand work than I had hoped. However, this is definitely a
step in a useful direction for me.

All right. I asked because it's unusual to use the ".xml" extension for an XSL file, so I thought it might be an error. But there's nothing wrong with that.
Next debugging step: is that XSL file actually being used? Insert some debugging code in it so that you can tell.

Dealing with escape characters

I have a command that works if I represent it as "\003"+command+"\r" because my command needs to be preceded by the char 'x03' and tailed by the char 'x0d'. The literals "\003" and "\r" are being converted as I wish into their equivalent byte values.
If I use Java string variables 'start' and 'end' to hold the values "\003" and "\r" and I issue my command as 'start+command+end', the start and end values are NOT converted into byte values. They remain represented as they are written i.e my string command is preceded by '\003' and ends with '\r'.
How can I convert escape characters stored in string variable into their byte equivalents?

Please show us the code, because what you say isn't clear. If the Strings are written as
String start = "\003"; // etx
String end = "\r"; //crIt should work.
Often this sort of thing is easier to do with character variable. eg.
char start = 3; // etx
char end = 13; // crI also wonder why you are using etx (end of text) as the start of text, the usual choice would be stx=\002. Also, none of this has anything to do with "byte" values, they are characters and take 2 bytes each. Your network code can do that conversion for you after you choose your character set. Is it UTF8, Latin-1, or some other.

Bug in replace all. escape characters are not working.

My requirement is that whenever i see ":" (Colon) in the string then i want to replace it with (\:). So i tried
String escapedTitle = "title:the world is not enough".replace(":", "\\:")
and to my surprise, when i printed escapedTitle i got
title\\:the world is not enough
instead of
title\:the world is not enough
(note the back slash in the string)
I want to ask why there is a different beehavious of escape characters? I am using JDK1.6.0_06
