Evaluate embedded CF variables inside a CF variable

I have a variable I would like to display both the contents of AND evaluate the 'value' of the variables inside and am having issues w/ CF8 evaluating both....
<cfset foo = 'This is a test of the #ppl.getemail()# email account. The password is #ppl.getpassword()#'>
where ppl.getemail() is '[email protected]' and ppl.getpassword() is '123abc'
I would like to cfoutput foo and have the results evaluated as ' This is a test of [email protected] email account. The password is 123abc'
(where the actual value of ppl.getemail() and ppl.getpassword() are evaluated as 'foo'is evaluated)
I have tried cfoutput, cfcontent, evaluate and de, but all print w/o evaluating the the cfc calls. I get literally the variable names in the output instead of their values.
Any suggestions?

Nope, this didn't work. I need the variable to be evaluated and the variables inside evaluated on the fly (as in a loop).
Dan, the issue may stem from the fact the the embedded variables are set when the user types them into a text string. The user wants to have an editable email message that still allows them to embed CF variables inside the email.
so your code works; until I put it into the editor and then evaluate x... then #x# cfoutputs to "abc is #abc()#"
BKBK, I would love to do it this way, but since this is a user 'editable' email, the entire string gets evaulated, and I get the & signs printed out as well.
Ian, Great idea too... I tried it. But, since the text may contain html (<p>), CF thinks the "<" is a misplaced less than sign and errors "Did you mean LT or LTE?"....

  • How to Print the Value of a variable inside a PL/SQL package

    Hi Friends,
    Here is my Scenario
    I have a PL/SQL Package. Let us call it Baseline Package.
    This Package includes a dynamically built merge Statement.
    Execute Immediate v_merge_query.
    I have a procedure which replaces which few Keywords from the Package Text and Creates a new one depending on Inputs I provide. (This is something like a Code generator)
    Now while Creating the new package, I need to print the Value of v_merge_query.... I Need s Static Query to be Printed inside the new package and not a dynamic query.
    My Question is "Is there a way to print the value of the variable inside a different PL/SQL package?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mohit

    Print where?
    That PL/SQL code is server-side code. It runs in an Oracle server process.
    That server process does not have a keyboard. Or a screen/monitor. Or display canvas. Or an attached printer.
    That server process is incapable of "printing" as that is not its job or responsibility and not part of its environment.
    What is can do is record data for the client to look at afterwards. This can be done using static PL/SQL session variables. Or a SQL table.
    The former is done by DBMS_OUTPUT - a very primitive interface for writing text into a static PL/SQL string array. That btw resides in expensive private process server memory. The client can query the array after a database call and render the contents.
    PS. Also keep in mind that bind variables are critical for performance and server robustness - especially when (ab)using dynamic SQL.

  • Using a variable inside another variable

    I'm trying to use one two variable in a package with one variable feeding its value to another variable as follows:
    Variable 1 = Count
    Variable 2 = File_Name
    Variable 1 counts up from 1;I would like to use this value as an input to Variable 2 as follows:
    SELECT LOAD_FILENAME FROM DIMSTATS_FILENAME WHERE (SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (Order by FILE_ID) AS RN FROM DIMSTATS_FILENAME) = #DIMSTATS_TEST.count.
    How ever I am getting the following Error :

    Caused By: java.sql.SQLException: [FMWGEN][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]The multi-part identifier "#DIMSTATS_TEST.count" could not be bound.+
    I have also noticed that the value of Variable 1 is not being passed to the Select statement above through SQLServer Profiler. If I hard-code the value of #DIMSTATS_TEST.count (Variable1) the query is successful.
    How can I get the value of Variable 1 to be passed to Variable 2?
    Could someone please help
    Thanks

    You did not mentioned how you are using those variable .
    You need to have these variable inside a package .
    It will be like

  • Targeting Dynamic Text Box inside moviecip with variable

    Hi,
    How does one target a dynamic text box to change the border
    color inside of a movie clip? Example below which does not work
    theName = ("answerPrint" + arryCount);
    boxName = ("box" + (arryCount+1));
    _root.pagePrintPartA[theName][boxName].border = true;
    _root.pagePrintPartA[theName][boxName].borderColor =
    0x00cc66;

    Thanks for the reinforcement, but I should of indicated what
    was what:
    theName = ("answerPrint" + arryCount);// Name of Variable
    inside Dynamic Text Box Inside MovieClip
    boxName = ("box" + (arryCount+1));// Instance Name of Actual
    Dynamic Text Box Inside MovieClip
    _root.pagePrintPartA[theName][boxName].border = true;
    _root.pagePrintPartA[theName][boxName].borderColor =
    0xFF0000;
    By certifying this script you showed me wher I went wron (not
    seeing the forest from the trees). The last two lines should be:
    _root.pagePrintPartA[boxName].border = true;
    _root.pagePrintPartA[boxName].borderColor = 0xFF0000;
    I was targeting backwards. Thanks alot DazFaz.

    or is there any alternative for bind variables inside an package
    Thanks in advance

    The "VARIABLE O VARCHAR2(20);" syntax is the way SQLPlus declared bind variables - it is specific to the client. Because PL/SQL packages and procedures are server code that continue past sessions, its only access to the client environment is what the client gives it - it can't go and create a bind variable in the client.
    PL/SQL procedures, functions and packages run from lots of environments, so they cannot access bind variables inside their body - you have to pass any external variables as parameters.
    Anonymous PL/SQL blocks can access bind variables.
    You can declare package public global variables - just leave out that "VARIABLE". E.g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE GET_EMPLOYEEDETAILS
    IS
    PROCEDURE GET_FIRSTNAME(E_ID IN EMP.EMPNO%TYPE, F_NAME OUT EMP.ENAME%TYPE);
    O VARCHAR2(20);
    END GET_EMPLOYEEDETAILS ;
    For local variables in your procedure, just put them between the IS and BEGIN. Using them in SQL inside the PL/SQL automatically uses them as a bind variable.
    create or replace PROCEDURE GET_FIRSTNAME(E_ID IN EMP.EMPNO%TYPE, F_NAME OUT EMP.ENAME%TYPE)
    IS
      O VARCHAR2(20);
      O2 VARCHAR2(21);
    BEGIN
      O := 'FR%';
    SELECT ENAME INTO F_NAME FROM EMP WHERE EMPNO = E_ID and ENAME like O;
    O2 := F_NAME || '2';
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(F_NAME);
    END;
    O is bound in the query.
    To access bind variables from anonymous PL/SQL, first declare them in the calling environment. In SQL Plus that's
    VARIABLE O VARCHAR2(20);
    In Pro*C it's
    EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION;
      char[21] O
    EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION;
    Then reference it in anonymous PL/SQL with a colon as prefix:
    BEGIN
    SELECT FIRST_NAME INTO :O FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID = E_ID;
    END;
    This only works for anonymous blocks (starting with BEGIN or DECLARE). As I said, PL/SQL procedures, functions and packages cannot see bind variables from the calling environment

  • Can i use a environment variable inside a *.sql file?

    Hello,
    I want to create a external table.
    So i am using the command
    create or replace directory abc as 'C:\folder'.... inside a sql file.
    Now i want the path "C:\folder" to be dynamic as i am using this path in many other places also inside the sql file.So i thought to create a environment variable and put this value there.I tried using as %PATH% but it gives error..... where %PATH%=C:\folder.
    Can i use a environment variable inside a *.sql file?
    But how to do that or is there any other way.
    Thanks

    Actually what i want is the path "C:\folder" is not fixed it can be anything which i may not know the user may decide it later. Not supported. A directory object refers to a specific physical location (directory/folder) on a file system. Not a path.
    You can work around it by (creating and) using a function (running under a super user schema with authid definer privs). The caller (e.g. schema scott ) calls it with a physical path. E.g. GetDirectoryObject( 'C:\folder\2010\feb\week4' ).
    This function determines if there is an existing directory object for the path. If not, it uses a wildcard search to determine if there are any directory objects for parents in the path (e.g. for C:\folder\2010\feb or C:\folder\2010 or C:\folder ).
    If it finds a directory object, it interrogates the data dictionary to determine if the caller, schema scott for example, has read/write access on that directory object. If it has, it creates a new directory object and grants the caller read/write access to it. The function then returns the name of the directory object to the caller.
    The caller thus do not deal directly with directory objects. The function returns the object name given a physical path as input. Also, only a single base directory needs to be created (e.g. for C:\folder ) and access granted to the schema on it. Any sub-directory in that base directory can now be dynamically accessed by the schema.

  • I want to access that BEA instance variable inside of a external java class

    Hi,
    This is N.pradeep. I am a java programmer, and I am new to BEA AquaLogic BPM studio5.7. I have a question regarding how to retrieve an instance variable of BEA Aqua Logic to an external Java Program. i.e. I want to access that BEA instance variable inside of a external java class, and vice versa.

    You can use PAPI or PAPI-WS for accessing BPM instance variable from a Java code, thougt I am not sure how the reverse will be done. Assuming that you are aware aof PAPI-WS and have created the necessary stubs out of the PAPI-WS WSDL using Axis, you can access instance variables using the API's or operations defined therein.

    2.Based on used id i need to display user data in table form.
    3.User-id will need to display in right corner of page template ( JSF page with this page template)
    4.user can update/create new table data by pressing update/createinsert button.
    5.Once user press the create new request button,one empty row will popup which have user-id filled automatically (used-id who logged in) and will read only ,so that once user commit the data,DB can update/insert the data with that user-id

  • Please help on how to use variables inside a method call

    Hello guys,
    How's it goin?
    Pardon me if you find my question silly, but I am relatively
    new in ActionScript 2.0 programming.
    I have here a simple problem. It seems I can't use a variable
    inside a method call of an object. Here's the code. Please note of
    the authParams string variable below.
    import AkamaiConnection;
    import mx.services.WebService;
    var GeneratedToken:String;
    var authParams:String;
    // Create a Web Service object
    var TokGenService:WebService = new WebService("
    http://webservice.asmx?wsdl");
    // Call the web service method
    var myToken:Object = TokGenService.GenerateToken();
    // Create an AkamaiConnection object
    var connection:AkamaiConnection = new AkamaiConnection();
    connection.addEventListener("onConnect", this);
    connection.addEventListener("onError", this);
    // If you get a result from the web service, save the result
    in a variable
    myToken.onResult = function(result)
    // If you get a result from the web service, save the result
    in a variable
    myToken.onResult = function(result)
    GeneratedToken = result;
    authParams = GeneratedToken +
    "&aifp=v001&slist=37414/test/Streaming/";
    //Call the Connect method of the AkamaiConnection class
    connection.connect("cp37414.edgefcs.net/ondemand",true,true,5,true,false,"443","rtmpt",
    authParams);
    But then, if I use a hard-coded string value in lieu of the
    variable, the method call works!
    connection.connect("cp37414.edgefcs.net/ondemand",true,true,5,true,false,"443","rtmpt",
    "testStringvalue");
    I don't know what I'm missing or what I'm doing wrong... Can
    somebody help me please? I am using a 30-day trial version of Adobe
    Flash CS3. Also, when I Trace output the variables, the values are
    there. It just that they can't be read or recognize inside the
    method call. Is this a ActionScript limitation?
    Thanks so much in advance!

    The result param is a returned, “Decoded ActionScript
    object version of the XML”. I am not exactly sure what that
    means but I have had issues of returned XML values and their
    datatype. When I did have these issues I had to cast or convert
    into the desired datatype. Try one of the following, assuming the
    problem is related to the code that you have bolded.
    GeneratedToken = result.toString();
    authParams = GeneratedToken +
    "&aifp=v001&slist=37414/test/Streaming/";
    Or
    GeneratedToken = String(result);
    authParams = GeneratedToken +
    "&aifp=v001&slist=37414/test/Streaming/";
    Or
    GeneratedToken = result.toString();
    authParams = String(GeneratedToken +
    "&aifp=v001&slist=37414/test/Streaming/");

  • Non-final variable inside an inner class - my nemisis

    I have an issue with accessing variables from an inner method. This structure seems to allow access to the text objects but not to the button object. This comes from a bit of example code that just illustrates a simple form window with text fields and buttons that read them.
    At the start of the class I have text objects defined like this:
    public class SimpleGUI extends Composite {
    Text nameField;
    Text junkField;
    // Constructors come next, etc...
    Later within this class there is a method to create some GUI stuff, and then to create a button and when pressed access and print the text to the console
    protected void createGui(){
    junkField = new Text(entryGroup,SWT.SINGLE); //Ross
    junkField.setText("Howdy");
    Button OKbutton = new Button(buttons,SWT.NONE);
    OKbutton.setText("Ok");
    OKbutton.addSelectionListener(
    new MySelectionAdapter() {
    public void widgetSelected(SelectionEvent e) {
    System.out.println("Name: " + nameField.getText());
    System.out.println("Junk: " + junkField.getText());
    And that all works fine. So within the inner class, the object junkField can be accessed nicely.
    However if I try to do the same with the button (I want to change the label on the button after it's pressed) I get errors for trying to access a non-final object in an inner class.
    I tried to handle the button similar to the text, adding this after the text defs:
         Button myButton;
    and under the println's in the inner class I wanted:
    if OKbutton.getText.equals("OK") {  OKbutton.setText("NotOK")}
    That's when I get an issue with "cannot refer to a non-final variable inside an inside class defined in a different method"
    Now, if I move the button declaration into the createGui method, and declare it with "final Button myButton" it works.
    Why does the button need different treatment than the text?
    Is this a suitable method to make my button change it's label when pressed, or is this sloppy?

    Button is a local variable. The anonymous inner class object you create can continue to exist after the method ends, but the local variables will not. Therefore, as the error message says, you must make that local button variable final if you want to refer to it inside the anon inner class. If it's final, a copy of its value can be given to the inner class--there's no need to treat it as "variable."

  • Access Session variable inside Transaction

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to access session variables inside Transaction.
    Create session variable.
    Update session variable value
    acccess Session variable.
    (user session)
    Regards,
    Sachin

    Hi Sachin,
    Here is the snapshot:
    1. Take session variable in a local JS variable in HTML page.
    2. Create a transaction with a input type variable in Transaction Properties.
    3. Create a Xacute query and link the above transaction.
    4. Creata a iCommand applet on HTML page and link the query template:
    <PARAM NAME="QueryTemplate" VALUE=".../QueryName">
    Call the function in the below way in HTML:
    Applet.getQueryObject().setParam(1,vaiable)
    So, the session variable will go to TRX (BLT) and perform the operations as per your need..
    You can pass it to other TRX by the same way.
    To fetch the value: Create output type variable in TRX 2. Create Xacute query.
    Get the value with : Applet.getValue(1,1)
    Hope it is useful.

  • Accessing shell environment variables inside OMBPlus script

    Hi,
    I have a problem accessing an environment variable inside OMBPlus script. I can 'see' the env. var values when using tclsh, but when I use OMBPlus.sh it doesn't work?
    Anybody has an example of how to do this?
    For example: puts $::env(MYVAR)
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Hello!
    Issue the command:
    puts [array names env];
    this will print you the content of the env array which is definitely not the environment variables.
    If you want your environment variable appear in the env tcl variable then you must edit the ombplus.bat file and pass it through a java option like this:
    -DMYENV="%MYENV%" (on windows assuming you declared MYENV).
    Now puts $env(MYENV) will work.
