Evaluate Function Error

Hi All,
I have an issue with the evaluate method,I am using a pivot view to show the report. Column contains the following formula
'<a>' || EVALUE('TO_CHAR(%1,%2)' as VARCHAR(10), table1.AmountSold, '9,99,999') || '</a>'
It gives the following error
Cannot function ship the following expression: Evaluate(TO_CHAR(%1,%2),D902.c3,'9,99,999') .(HY000)
Please provide the solution for this issue

Not enough information from you.

This error is very specific, it depends on input parameters inside it, other columns and in Answers, etc, see this thread with example:

I used the following evaluate function in my report under Edit Column Formula of the particular field.
EVALUATE('test_eval(%1)','"Contract BC Parameters Fact"."Bill Amt Lcy"')
The test_eval function in my DB takes one parameter of type number and returns a number. The "Contract BC Parameters Fact"."Bill Amt Lcy" field is of DOUBLE type as found in BMM layer.
I wish to know if I am right by placing the evaluate function in report or should I use it in BMM layer? Can I get anybodies assistance in knowing how to arrive at using a DB user-defined function in a report.

can't we use semicolon in Evaluate function
Semicolon is not allowed in Evaluate Functions without proper escape i.e. \; (HY000)

Evaluate function not working in obiee 11.1.1.7

Hi all,
I have completed In-place upgrade from obiee 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.7.
After this I am getting an error while running reports,which is created by using evaluate function.
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. EVALUATE_SUPPORT_LEVEL inside NQSConfig.INI is not set to support EVALUATE
In my NQSconfig.ini I coundnt find EVALUATE_SUPPORT_LEVEL. So I have added below content in NQSConfig.ini file
# EVALUATE_SUPPORT_LEVEL:
# 1: evaluate is supported for users with manageRepositories permssion
# 2: evaluate is supported for any user.
# other: evaluate is not supported if the value is anything else.
EVALUATE_SUPPORT_LEVEL = 2;
After that I restarted BI services. But still I am facing same error.
Guide me regarding this.

Evaluate function in OBIEE

Hi All,
I tried using Evaluate and Evaluate_Aggr in the column formula of a report.
Evaluate_Aggr() is erroring saying the dimension Work Order is incorrectlly defines logical Table Source Mapping for a dimension of Work Order. If I revoke the implicit fact coniguration on this Subject Area which I have, the report executes as expected. But this implicit configuration is required in my scenario for other reports to work.
Using Evaluate() works perfectly.
Can anyone help me in fixing this?
Shld I add any other configuration in the RPD to resolve this issue?

DB Function errors out when trying to use in both Answers and RPD file.

Its a strange behaviour that one function which is in Database works fine the other does not. I have created 2 DB functions and accessing them from OBIEE in both Answers and RPD. One function which returns a Date is working fine, the one which is returning a number is throwing a error.

I noticed that you have not specified the type of return value that the function returns. It is good practice to do so..
EVALUATE('DB_Function(%1)' as returntype, {Comma separated Expression}).
Try EVALUATE('APPS.XXX_BUSINESS_DAYS(%1,%2,%3)' as number,"Soft cost Fact"."Soft Cost Date","Soft cost Fact"."Soft Cost Date",1) to see if that resolves the error.

Equivalent of to_date function in Ms SQL and using it in Evaluate function

I am trying to find out a function in MS SQL which is equivalent to to_date function in oracle. Please find below the advanced filter i am trying to use in OBIEE.

The statement above works fines with oracle DB with to_date function. The same statement throws an error with MS SQL since to_date is not a built in function.
With MS SQL I tried with CAST, not sure how to pass parameters %1 and %2.
Please help me how to use Evaluate function and passing parameters along with to_date funtion in MS SQL.

Best practices on using EVALUATE functions

hi, experts,
I wanna know what is the best practices on using EVALUATE functions on obiee (calling oracle user defined functions)
I found that if I use evaluate functions in Answers,
obiee will construct a sql behind and then execute.
sometimes, obiee contructs some unexpected sqls, and returns errors.
so, is it better to use EVALUATE functions in logical columns ?

Evaluate function doesn't work with Static values

Hi All,
I have been trying to call a evaluate function and have been successfully in calling it..but i face problem when i pass any static values to it...
For eg
when i try calling the function using one of the columns...it works fine
Evaluate('dbo.Hello(%1)',"Dim table_name"."Department" )
the function normally changes it to upper case.so i get all the value in the column in department in upper case.
but when i call any static value like
Evaluate('dbo.Hello(%1)','hello') it throws the following error..
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 42015] Cannot function ship the following expression: Evaluate( dbo.Hello(%1),'hello') . (HY000)

Hi,
We are using a custom made function for formatting date in the XSL transformation. This jar file has been kept under the domain_name/lib folder, and it is working as expected in our Windows environment. However when I tried to deploy it in Linux environment, it is giving the error XML-22043: (Error) Extension function error: Method not found 'getDtformat' (Full stack trace attached below)

Problem in passing varchar2 parameter to Evaluate function in OBIEE

Hi there,
This is regarding an issue while passing parameter in EVALUATE function.
I have to call a function with varchar parameters. parameter are nothing but my table column values.
I've created session variables which holds value from my table column values.
for eg:
EVALUATE('REP1_FIRSTMONTH_F(%1)' AS CHARACTER ( 30 ), VALUEOF (NQ_SESSION."month"))
so whenever i call function using EVALUATE in OBIEE. i hve to pass ' ' (single quotes) for my varchar values. without this , i'm facing error stating :
*State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 59015] The requested column PERIOD0 does not exist in this table. (HY000)*
If i'll give parameter within single quotes in my dashboard prompt. it is working fine, but fails without the quotes.
kindly help me in solving this issue.

if report_date=7/15 and sales_qty>39...show 2..
in the formula section i am using

OBIEE Evaluate - "Essbase error : Repeated dimension in MDX query"

Hi,
I'm using OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 on top of Essbase.
I have a project dimension in Essbase with three levels - Total Project -> Project Class -> Project. I have created a new logical column in OBIEE to query two levels from project dimension, using evaluate function as below:
Evaluate('%1.Members, %2.Members', "Oracle Hyperion Planning"."ASOCUBE".""."Planning"."Gen2,Project" , "Oracle Hyperion Planning"."ASOCUBE".""."Planning"."Gen4,Project" ).
The above column when used in analysis, works fine, returning "Total Project" and all the projects. It breaks however when any filter is applied on project dimension with the following error:
"[nQSError: 96002] Essbase Error: Repeated dimension [Project] in MDX query".
I donot have any MDX skills and would appreciate if anyone can explain this error and provide any workaround for this. Here's the MDX that fails:

As an added point of reference, we use the "Evaluate()" function to to parse Variables in a Step Name for TestStand steps. This makes our steps very readable and FAST to code in TestStand.
For example our tests to communicate to a device might be to write a value to a value to a specific parameter, such as writing a Setpoint Value. So the TestStand step name would look like:
[] Writeetpoint(1)=200
Where Setpoint is the Parameter Name, (1) represents the Instance, and 200 is the value written
However we use the Evaluate() function to parse out variables:
Locals.sParameter = "Setpoint"
Locals.nInstance = 1
Parameters.nValue = 200
[]Write:{L.sParameter}({L.nInstance})={P.nValue}
(We use a shortened version of L. for Locals., P. for Parameters., etc. because it doesn't take up so much space on the Step Name)
We have a library subsequence (Check for Curly Brackets to be parsed) that parses out any variables that are enclosed in the {} curly brackets.
Replace "L." with "Locals.", etc. and then parse out the variables in the Pre-Expression,
and then EVALUATE the variables in the Post-Expression:
Locals.sTemporary ="RunState.Caller.RunState.Caller."& Locals.sVariable,
'If the variable exists, resolve it, if not replace it with '{ERROR}' and continue.

How can we achieve this below using EVALUATE function in obiee. I can use cast to do this but i need to use EVALUATE for my purpose.Can someone please throw light on this.

Here is my issue
I want to implement below function in obiee.It takes the month from the column and appends the current year .so basically if the column has the value 01/12/12.It becomes 01/12/13.P_year is a current year variable.I am having issues in writing the above code in obiee.I am using the below in obiee which is giving the below error.
