EvDRE Sheet Expansion

Anyone having any luck using EvDRE expansion across sheets?
My sheet expansion seems to be working, but the results in each sheet are the same. The CurrentView isn't changing.
I have Paolo Ferreri's documentation, and I have attempted to set up a second CurrentView on Entity that is referenced in the EvDRE MemberSet.
The CurrentView, however, never changes across the sheets that have been dynamically added. What am I missing?

To clarify...my EvDRE setup sheet is the only sheet in my workbook. I am using the EvDRE quick-build wizard to build my expansion.
My process IS EXPANDING the sheets correctly. Each sheet is correctly named with the child member.
The problem is that after the expansion each sheet has values for total entity rollup (i.e.the static CurrentView). The EvDRE on the setup sheet has the sheet expansion option (expansion #3), while each of the expansion sheets have only row (#1) and column (#2) expansions.
The CurrentView for each of the child members has not changed, although their respective sheetnames have.
I am afraid I am missing something...

EVDRE sheet expansion problem

i created an evdre with sheet expansion to expand across tabs and when i expand all, the same data is displayed on every sheet even though each tab has a different name. has anyone else ever encountered this?

I am facing a similar problem, i have tested it on 7.0 and 7.5.
When you try to expand through the sheets as your only expansion (so row and columns are fixed), the system will fail. This is because the expand through sheets will adjust the evdre formula in the newly created sheets, removing the column for expansion in sheets. In case there are no other expansions left in this sheet, the evdre will trow an error: expandrange must have 8 rows and at least two columns and will not refresh the information, as the there is now only one column in the expand range (with the parameters)
I consider this a bug, the system should see that if the expand in sheets is the only expansion, the formula of the actual evdre must change, removing the total expansion area, rather than changing the range to one column.
I was hoping it would be fixed in 7.5 but unfortunately I just discovered that it has not...

EVDRE Column expansion: Auto hide column following expansion

Hello All
I have an EVDRE expansion question please. If i set my column to expand on BAS members of Entity, and i have say 10 entities that are a part of my selected parent entity, i notice that the 11th column auto hides in excel. I assume this is caused by the fact that the page key range definition requires the colkeyrange to include a minimum of two columns.
Does any one know how to stop this? Perhaps as one of the OptionsRange?
The context of my question is that i have 4 EVDRE's in my sheet - if one of them results in a column being hidden, it hides results from the EVDRE results that appears below it.
Naturally, the same applies to a Row expansion.

Hi Glen,
I cannot decipher the way your template looks like. As far as I understand your statement, you have a "DYANMIC" expansion in column in which you use BAS as your flag for column member set.
This is how it works, if you're using flags (e.g. BAS, SELF, DEP) as your member set. It highly depends on your current view. Meaning, if the member in your current view has only 1 BAS level member, then the column next to it will automatically hide. Therefore, the case where you are in is not usual in BPC wherein the current view on that dimension has 10 BAS level members and the column next to it automatically hides.
Possible cause/reason, I suppose is that you are using "HIDECOLKEYS" in your option range tagged as "Y" in your 2nd or 3rd or 4th EvDRE which is PROBABLY LOCATED under the ranges of EvDRE where you have 10 BAS level members.

So what I want to suggest is that check all your column and row ranges if it overlaps each other in each EvDRE. It would be best to relocate other EvDREs OR remove the "Y" tags on your option range at "hidecolkeys" and/or "hiderowkeys" and just group the IDs manually through MS EXCEL.

EvDRE Property Expansion

Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to create an expansion based on one property in a dimension. For ex.:
Dimension Entity has ID and the Property 'ManagerName'. There is no hierarchy which includes 'ManagerName'. I would like to group data by 'ManagerName', without having to expand the whole Entity dimension with its own members.
Is that possible or do I need to create a further hierarchy?

Hi,
Nilanjan is right. But you can also directly build a filter by right-clicking in the Memberset cell used for your expansions (rows or columns), and choose EVDRE build filter.... then you can just decide here what property you would like your expansion to be based on. The syntax in the Memberset cell will be exactly the same than if you it directly following above example.

How does BPC Excel execute expansions?

I am experiencing some problems with a report and I am not able to find out what is happening. To deduce what happens I think I need some info about how BPC Excel works.
So, when we have some EvEXP, EvNXP and EvDRE functions define in the cells of a same report:
1) in what order are they executed? (order of preference of these functions and order according to the excel cell where they are defined, I think it has some influence).
2) an expansion inserts or deletes rows (and/or columns), right? So, how does it do it? Does it always first delete the rows and then insert the new ones or does it do it otherwise?

thank you for giving the question a chance, I know it's kind of weird
I have continued testing since I made the question in the forum and I have been able to make some sense of what is happening guessing that BPC excel: 1) executes first EvEXP, EvNXP (I don't know if the order in which they are defined in the excel sheet has some influence or not), and then EvDRE. 2) always performs first expansions in columns and then expansions in rows (either for adding or deleting, but again I don't know if the order in which they are defined in the excel sheet has some influence).
I am dealing with this issues because we have some quite complex reports with different EvDRE with expansions (in the same sheet, ones over the others). It used to work ok in 5.1, but in 7.0 we discovered the one EvDRE would "break" other EvDRE as its expansions would eventually delete more rows/columns that it should (we have a note with support on that).
We found out that this issue does not happen with EvEXP, EvNXP expansion, so as a workaround I am trying to make the report using EvEXP/EvNXP for the expansions combined with EvDRE to retrieve the data. And I am slowly getting to it, but continually experiencing rows that brake, ranges that shift around in the sheet, etc., mainly by how the expansions get executed, thus my need in getting deeper knowledge on how it all is internally working.
So, do you think my conclusions are ok or you have a different insight?

One EVDRE Multiple Reports

I have BPC for Excel and would like to feed several reports on different Excel worksheets ( but in the same workbook ) from a single EVDRE in it's own worksheet, is this possible ?, and if so, is there a limit to the number of reports which can feed off of a single EVDRE ?
I've changed the ColKeyRange to =EVRNG(Sales!G1:I3,Sales!O1:Q3,Sales_D_Ost!G1:I3,Sales_D_Ost!O1:Q3)
and the RowKeyRange to =EVRNG(Sales!A18:B109,Sales_D_Ost!A18:B109) and although the EVDRE states that it is 'ok' , only the first of the reports is refreshing.

In the expansion options there are 3 options for where the expansion should be done:
COL, ROW and SHEET.
If you select sheet, you can do an expansion across worksheets. you have the same option for the memberset as with any other expansion, only you can only use the sheet expansion on the first worksheet, and there can only be one per EVDRE function.
Also it is not possible to only use the SHEET option, but you have to use it in combination with atleast 1 ROW or COL expansion, otherwise there will be errors in your expanded worksheets.
But if you use NOEXPAND in the COL or ROW expansion, you can still create a static report which expands across worksheets.
If you look in the EVDRE wizard there is the option "Spread across worksheets". Here you can select a dimension to spread over multiple worksheets. It is also possible to create this manually, but with the wizard you can easily create an example to see how it works.

BPC 7.0 - EVDRE(), got high ranged values on EXP

encountered following Problem ...
If i enter a number of 50 into an EVDRE Sheet (it occurs only in EVDRE Sheets), send it to Database, refresh my Sheet it will get displayed as
"500 000 000 000"
The error only occurs on Account-Members of Type EXP - if we switch the Account-Type to INC, it will be displayed correctly.
Using Server:
BPC 7.0 MS on Windows 2003 ( Region Setting US )
The Client:
Windows XP with Office 2007 and BPC Office-Client v7.0.108 ( Region Settings DE/Germany )
Switching to Region Settings US will workaround the Problem. Any other suggestions to handle/correct the Issue? Thanks in advance!

EVDRE - spacing problem

I used to be able to create a blank row between two membersets by using double commas (,,) or a pipe (|).
Today it is resulting in #ERR: Invalid member or flag
I can't figure out why it would work one day and then fail the next day. Nothing was adjusted on the AppSet. This is 5.0.502

Normally things always happen with a reason. It is difficult from this side to see what is wrong now, just a list full of ideas where I would look:
- is the same problem occurring in new created evdre sheets (create a very simple evdre sheet)
- is this problem only on one client or on other clients to
- is the evdre pointed to the correct application
- try a memberset with only two members with a blank one in between
- look to the language setting of the client (, can be a decimal point in european languages)
- try another dimension in the rows with correct members
- can you retrieve a description for the members in the memberset (are the members really loaded)
- is the problem present in all applications
- is the problem present in all appsets
Depending on the answers, you have some more information and clues where to look at.

Refresh Hidden Sheet data for Chart

Hello people, I'm trying to expand a hidden sheet data to refresh a chart using these data, (in BPC 10 nw sp 17 patch 2)
The problem is that Data sheet is not refreshed, don't know the reason. Maybe someone can help me.
If I unhide the data sheet, and refresh it using standard refresh buton, it works. But I want to hide data sheet.
I remember doing this with EVDRE in BPC 7 and the procesdure was more or less the same:
Disable events/ screenupdating -> Unhide Data Sheet -> refresh -> Hide Data sheet -> Enable events/ screenupdating
Here is the VBA function I'm using:
   Application.EnableEvents = False
   Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    Dim EPMOB As EPMAddInAutomation
    Set EPMOB = New EPMAddInAutomation
    Sheets("Chart Data").Visible = True

Hi Vadim than, Thanks for your reply, I'm still getting blank results using the macro. but there is data in report.
The problem was that I was calling the refresh chart info from an existing EVDRE report/sheet.
I wanted to use this report because it's the classic menu report with diferent steps and calls.
If i cut/paste the button to the CHART sheet (EPM 10), it's working... strange....
At least I can refresh in the chart sheet, but I cannot call macro from this MENU Evdre sheet.
I'm getting some Clear Cache errors and i have to reconnect to. see again reports... maybe that's because the EVDRE/EPM mixing reports...

From Drill Down to Drill Across

Hi Forum,
I'm using drill down from parent to child of the account dimesion.
I'd like also drill across dimensions.
For example, I have a report by account and I'd like drill to flow dimension. Cause i don't want to see the flow dimension for all account. The user want to see the flow details when he means that is necessary see it (unpredictable).
Is it possible? If yes how it works?

Im not too sure, when you say drill across dimensions....
My suggestion accoridng to my undertanding is to maintain a property called flow against in acct dimension and populate it with a "Y" for account ids for which you want to display the flow dimension.
Use simple IF formula in your control sheet or anyother excel aoning with your EVDRE sheet like below and apply the same inn your flow dimension expansion.
If Flow_Property of Acct is Y
then
Flow_ALL in Expansion .
else
flow_none.
Also, If it is not based on accounts, and you wantto kae it dynamic, populate it with Flow_None always and give the user the option of selecting which accts he wants to select a flow id.
this can be done with the help of excel macro and the same excel formula as above.

How to Avoid Pop up for Expand Mode Options

Dear Experts
In our Input schedules, we have two EVDRE Sheets.
1) Master Data EVDRE Sheet
2) The actual transaction data sheet.
On BEFORE_EXPAND event of the Second sheet we trigger the Expansion of First Master Data Sheet to get the exact EVDRE filters. However we are facing issue as during the first expansion the BPC gives message
Select the Expand Mode 1 ) Send Data and Clear Input 2) Clear Input.
Can you please help how can we avoid this message to be show on expansion of 1st EVDRE ?

BPC Expertice Needed: some functional questions for Proto

I am working on a prototype and we would need to have some questions answered. Any hint is most welcomed.
BPF
- Are BPFs assigned to a user or can a user run different BPFs (i.e., one same user running one for budgeting and another one for sales data).
- There is a feature that allows to set the system to send an e-mail some days before running the BPF. We have reports of this feature not working properly. Has anybody managed to keep it up running?
- Can we set a BPF not to run until another BPF is done?
Security
- Can we set the security in such a way that we allow one user to input only cost data for one entity and at the same time only sales data for another entity? (what would be the best scenario for achieving this? having cost and sales data that in one same application or having them in two different applications?)
Reporting (mainly EvDRE, but could be otherwise if it is any better)
- How can we set a report so that the expansions are based on a value of a crossing (instead of a value in a property)? (i.e., having a dimension "asset" and having a report dynamically showing only those assets of purchase year superior to the Current View year? Using evdre's expansion properties? suppressions?)
- How can we have linked dimensions? That is, having set one member of a dimension we would like to have the members allowed for another dimension filtered (i.e., if one dimension is "shops" and another one is "products", having set shop A we would like to be able to offer a list with only the products available in shop A....similar case to the previous question, but this time for slicer dimensions instead of axis dimensions )

Can we set a BPF not to run until another BPF is done? We have thought about using a special workstatus needed that would be set up only in the second BPF, but maybe there is a better approach.
REPORTING (mainly EvDRE, but could be otherwise if it is any better)
How can we get linked dimensions ? We would need to have in reports something like what there is available for journals through the Journal Validation Rules where having selected a member of one dimension (driver dimension) makes available to the user only a certain set of members of another dimension (driven dimension). Anyone implemented it? Maybe using VB code?

Suppress COL and ROW based actual period and previous one

Here is a problem I am trying to solve:
Lets say you have in COL a list of products and in ROW a list of client.
Most of the products bought by the client are the same month after month...
Most of the clients are the same month after month...
So I would like my COL to suppress depending on period N and period N-1 because my products hardly change. To add a new one, I will put the INSERT = Y in my expansion.
I would like my ROW to suppress depending on period N and period N-1 because in the long list of my clients, only some of them buy my products. To add new clients, I will put the INSERT = Y in my expansion.
I hope the definition of my problem above is good, here is how I try to solve it in my EVDRE;

Dynamic EVDRE expansion

Hi All,
we have a requirement of dynamic expansion of evdre based on the user selection.
Out of 6 dimension, user may select as many as he wants, and based on the selection we need to expand the evdre and generate the report in a different sheet.
We tried to give the dimension from the excel reference, but due to the unselected dimension in selection sheet, we received EVDRE error.
When we tried to restrict the the EVDRE range cells, we received the below error:
"runExpand: RowKeyRange<>RowExpandOptions wks:Sheet1".
Please suggest on it and provide a workaround to achieve the requirement.

Hi Umesh,
This error usually means that the rowkeyrange is not matching with the expansion options. If your row key range is set to do an expansion on 3 rows, then you should have 3 rows in the expansion options.
You have specified some specific number of expansions in your EVDRE, lets say 3 dimensions in rows. You are passing the expansion dimension members from another sheet. If you dont get all the 3 expansions in the sheet 2, then the expansion option will not match with the rowkeyrange.
So, even if the user doesnt select any dimension member, you need to pass some member (may be the highest node) to that dimension.
Hope you got my idea.

EVDRE Expansion depending on Property of members

Hi All,
I am developing a report which will give me data for specific property of the members and at different levels. Let me explain it more... We have a dimension PROJ which has one property Bill_to. This property is set to child projects only. So now EvDRE should give me data if Bill_To = "X". I could get this working by putting the condition in MemberSet in Expansion range.
Now, i want to populate the data depending on the hierarchy. Like, if i want to query for Level 0 member then it should only give me data rolled up to parent for ONLY those child members which have Bill_To property set to 'X'.
Depending on the desired levels, i tried this condition in MemberSet: Bill_To = 'X' and HLevel = 1 (varies depending on the level). But it didnt work.
I would really appreciate any help on this.

Thanks for the reply Nilanjan but it didnt work like i tried earlier. It gives me data for level 1 even for all the projects which doesnt have Bill_To property set.
Let me explain it a little more... we have around 400 prjects of which many have different parents and they are at different levels of hierarchy. So i want to fetch the data like
At Level 0 --> Only projects with Bill_To = 'X' (Rolling up to Parent Projects in Hierarchy)
At Level 1 --> Only projects with Bill_To = 'X' (Rolling up to Parent Projects in Hierarchy)
At Level 3 --> Only projects with Bill_To = 'X' (Rolling up to Parent Projects in Hierarchy)
At Level 'BAS' --> Only projects with Bill_To = 'X' (i could get this data set by simply putting the condition in MemberSet.)
