Excel 2007 graph into Illustrator CS2

I have discovered an issue with Illustrator CS2 and Excel 2007...when I try to edit a graph in Illustrator (either by cutting and pasting or printing to a pdf and opening in Illustrator), all of the graph lines are no longer lines. They are individual shapes with fills instead of strokes. Does anyone know of a way of fixing this? I edit graphs for a living and this is a tragic discovery! I had no problems with Excel 2003. Would this problem go away if I upgraded to CS3?

Having the same problem with Illustrator CS3. All Excel 3D graph/chart are individual shapes. Looks horrible.
Don't have Office 2003 installed. So sure if it only an Excel 2007 issue.
No problem with Excel 2004 on the Mac.

  • Microsoft Excel (2007) Charts in Illustrator CS2

In the past I was able to take any charts from Microsoff Excel 2003 - select them, copy them, and paste them into CS2.  The company recently upgraded to 2007 as a stepping stone to 2010. Now when I copy charts they either come over as a rasterized image or all of the fonts get changed to "Small Fonts" and all of the kerning and spacing is messed up. I have tried PDFing them and that works to a certain extent, but the graphs from Excel come over as rasterized images - no good for me. I need to be able to modify the charts as needed in Illustrator.
    Thanks for any help!

I tried to replicate your problem, not having CS2, I tried 2003 to CS5 and 2007 to CS4 and it worked ok in both cases. In excel you can copy data or chart as pictures but it is not the default behavior, try pasting inside excel in another sheet, to see if it is still editable, if it isn't probably it is being copied as picture.

  • Import excel graphs into illustrator

When I try to import the graphs from excel into Illustrator the text converts into a gibberish. Is there any proper way to import excel graphs into illustrator?

Obviously it helps if you have got the same fonts in the Excel and the Illie files. But I believe that this is not the whole answer – or at least there is a nice difference between gibberish and utter gibberish.
For example if you try to open a .docx  or .xlsx file in TextEdit you will get totally mind-boggling utter gibberish, whereas .doc and .xls files usually behave more or less normally even if there is a font conflict.
Now Auntie Illie is very fussy about her fonts, so do what dandidotcom says first and if you still get utter gibberish even with the right fonts, try downsaving the Excel file to .xls.

  • How to correct bad PDF display of Excel 2007 graph-Adobe Pro X?

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro X; previously had Adobe Pro 8, which worked fine.  Have Excel 2007 files with an Excel graph and a JPG image on the spreadsheet tab.  Both the graph and the JPG are too big, are displaced, and hide spreadsheet data, when the Excel file is Saved As a PDF using Adobe Pro dialog or Excel dialog, or the Excel Plug-In to Create PDF.  For some strange reason, printing to PDF works, although that is limiting.  All of the settings are the same for the Adobe Printer as Adobe Pro settings.  Changing them or going to default did not help.  Just did the latest update; that did not help.
The graph and JPG are too large for the PDF page.  Paper printing from Excel still works fine. Producing a PDF on another machine with Pro 8 still works fine.  Could not find this problem discussed anywhere.  Using XP, fully patched.  This should not be a complicated process, nor a complex spreadsheet. What is going on?
    Thanks

Regardless of the method and Adobe product used to create the PDF, including the Excel tool button, the single common factor whether the PDF correctly displays a JPG or graph in the Excel file that is being done at anything other than 100% size is whether the Adobe Printer or a Physical Printer is selected as the default printer in the Windows Printers and Faxes-Settings.  This is true even though the printer is not being used. I have created the same PDF using every method/product and the results are always the same, and only properly display when either the setting is 100% size or the system printer is selected as Adobe Printer.  This is true only after installing Adobe X (8 was previously installed, and worked as expected).

You say the settings for the printer work fine, but do not for PDF Maker (I am assuming this is what you meant). PDF Maker no longer uses the printer and the settings are independent. Check the settings for PDF Maker under the create PDF menu.

  • Why do I get jumbled text when pasting a graph from Excel (mac 2011) into Illustrator cs6

The Goal: To copy a graph from Excel (mac 2011) and paste it into Illustrator cs6 as a vector graphic.
The graph's vector and layout is okay. Yet, the text / copy is jumbled text:
    $%"
    $#!!!!"
Do I have to change a preference in either Excel or Illustrator?
    Thank you!

In Excel, right click and choose Format Chart Area. In the dialog at the left, choose Fonts. Change the font to Arial or something other than Calibri (Theme Body). Then copy/paste.

  • Question about the Cluster and Column width in Graphs in Illustrator CS2

How do they relate to each other? How do the Percentages work together? Is there any information about how you can mathematically figure how much area each Cluster width takes. If you make a graph and make both the cluster and column widths 100%, the entire area is filled. If you make the Column width 50% the bar will sit exactly in the center of the Cluster width, but if you make the cluster width 75%, the bars move closer together.

    Gregg,
The set of bars that represent each row of data in the graph spreadsheet is called a "cluster".
    Let's let
W = the width of the whole area inside the graph axes
R = the number of rows of data
C = the number of columns of data
Then the maximum potential space to use for each row of data is W/R. The cluster width controls how much of this potential space is assigned to each row. This cluster space is then divided by C, giving the maximum potential width of each bar. The maximum potential width for each bar is then multiplied by the column width percentage to get the actual width of each bar.
So the actual width of each bar is ((W/R)*Cluster width)/C)*Column width
The graphs illustrated below have three rows of data, with two columns each. The solid colored areas in the background have the same cluster width as the main graph, but they all have a column width of 100%. This lets you see more easily how the gradient bars that have a column width of 80% are using up 80% of their potential width.
Notice that as the Cluster percentage gets lower, the group of bars that represent a row of data get farther apart, so that you can more easily see the "clumping" of rows. When the Cluster percentage is 100%, the columns within each row are no closer to each other than they are to the columns in other rows.
As the Column percentage gets lower, the bars for each data value occupy less of the space within their row's cluster, so that spaces appear between every bar, even in the same row.

  • Place Excel charts/graphs in InDesign

Hi We need to put MS-Excel 2007 graphs in InDesign CS4.  Earlier we used to just copy and paste them. We have around 15 graphs that need to be put.
However, now our client has asked us to recreate them in InDesign or Illustrator.  How do we do that?

    vikojh wrote:
No they want them re-created in illustrator.
Can an MS-EXCEL chart be recreated exactly the same way in Illustrator?
The client had shared some Illustrator graphs with us. However, we did not find any data embedded within the graphs, thus, were unable to understand the approach to be followed while creating the graphs in Illustrator.  Does that mean that they too, were copy pasted from MS-Excel to Illustrator.  Further, we are unable to assign data labels to the graphs created.
More or less, but rarely exact. You would use the chart/graph tool in Illustrator. This allows you to add the data in to the chart and it can be modifed at any time. However, if you outline/expand the chart, it loses the connection to the data and is therefore a static chart.
Maybe the charts supplied to you were outlined/expanded? See screenshot for the tool.

  • Autocad 2010 drawing pasted in microsoft excel 2007 spread sheet not visible after converting excel

Hello, I am having an issue with Autocad 2010 drawings not showing up in a pdf document. Normally, I cut and paste part of an Autocad 2010 drawing into a Microsoft Excel 2007 spread sheet. Then, using Adobe Distiller, I convert the Excel spread sheet into a pdf document for propriatary purposes. However, recently the drawing pasted into Excel will not fully appear on the pdf, the drawing is cut off past a certain point. The drawing will print normally in Excel, but in pdf will not print normally. If the drawing is shrunk below the "cut off" point, it appears normally. If the drawing is expanded above the "cut off" point, any additional image is lost. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem would be appreciated.

  • Opening layered PDF in Illustrator CS2&3

I am currently experiencing problems when opening layered PDF files which have been exported from Esko Graphics Backstage 7.0. When opening files into illustrator CS2 or 3 on one mac it contains the original layers. However when opening on another mac it doesn't. I have been through all preferences and settings and matched them up on both macs but the problem still remains. The versions of Illustrator are exactly the same (12.0.1). The problem also doesn't seem to be Intel/Power PC related. Can any body help please?

Did you check to make sure Paste Remembers Layers was checked in the flyout for the layers menu?

  • Placing deep etched images into Illustrator

I am having problems when placing a deep etched image file into Illustrator CS2 from Photoshop CS2. When I place the file into Illustrator, it is not recognising the working path on the file, and is just coming in with a transparent rectangular background. This is a problem because I then have to place this Illustrator file into Framemaker, and when I print tiny dots are appearing around the image file (which I think is the background of the image that has been deep etched out). If anyone could help I would be very grateful. Thank you

    Joshua,
Did you reinstall after upgrading to Yosemite?
In any case, you should update to 16.0.5.

  • Problems with Excel 2007 PDF conversion

I'm trying to convert an Excel 2007 workbook into a PDF. I installed Acrobat 8.1.3 Professional onto my machine and it put an Acrobat Menu choice in Excel. So I can convert, but now I have a host of problems/issues, probably arising from the fact that I'm new to this.
    1. The Acrobat add-in moved my Page Breaks inside Excel
    2. Now I can't seem to change the page breaks at all in Page Break Preview
    3. My Reset Page Breaks in Excel is grayed out
    4. Acrobat conversion gave me a message "Cannot create tags for Worksheets with Print Titles. Clear Print Titles field in Page Setup dialog". I did have Print titles, but now in that dialog box they don't show. The field isn't even editable.
I have saved the Excel file, not realizing that this Acrobat add-in has apparently altered the Excel file itself. I am now told by someone that I should just not use that Acrobat menu in Excel, and load the Excel file from Acrobat 8 itself. Nice to know. But is there anyway to "reset" my Excel file and remove/adjust what's been done to it, especially the Page Breaks. Or am I missing something obvious?

In general, you should not have the page breaks and all locked out by the addition of the Adobe PDF printer and converter. One trick to pull is to try to find the option in Excel Options that allows the output to use the printer metrics and be sure it is turned off. That should mean that you do not get changes as you change the printer. However, the issue of some of your menu items being locked and such is strange.

  • Can't Copy and Paste into Illustrator CS3 from Firefox 3!

I read these things all the time, but first time posting, so you KNOW this problem is annoying me.
I could always copy and paste from Firefox 2 into Illustrator CS2/CS3. However, once I upgraded to Firefox 3 I no longer can! I get the annoying "Quicktime and a decompressor are needed to see this picture." I can't believe more people aren't complaining more about this. Save your time posting about "Illustrator is a vector program, and Photoshop is pixel based," I know I have been able to do it before so that is not the issue. Any light that could be shed on the situation would be great! Thanks in advance.

I found that FF3 originally renamed .jpegs to the JFIF format when draging and dropping to the desktop, and it was not until March when the code was finalized that that you could drag and drop to your desktop without the conversion. You get around the illustrator CS3 problem a number of ways...drap and drop to the desktop and then to illustrator CS3, Drap and drop to photoshop CS3 and then to Illustrator CS3 or save as to the desk top, or use an older version of Firefox. I am currently tyring to determine if the JFIF renaming issue is what is preventing the direct drag and drop to Illustrator, and if there is a fix for issue. Any help out there or ideas would be helpful.

  • Copy Excel charts into Illustrator?

    Hi All-
I NEED to get charts that I have created in Excel (Microsoft Excel 2008 for MAC, Version 12.1.1) into Adobe Illustrator (CS2, 12.0.1).
I have hundreds of charts to do this with, so remaking all of the charts in Illustrator isn't really feasible. In addition, I must include error bars which I don't think Illustrator is able to do.
I also need high resolution images (which I why was told I have to use Illustrator in the first place) that are publication quality.
PLEASE HELP - I have been spending hours trying to find a way to do this and have been unsuccessful.
    Thanks everyone,
    jenn

Mac OSX 10.5.7  CS4  Excel 2004 / but Excel-to-.ai worked with older configurations, too.
My work involves scientific journal illustrations, some of which come from Excel graphs. Once I have the graphs in Illustrator, I 'clean them up' -- as was mentioned on the Forum: Excel comes in with lots of repeated lines and icky rotated text blocks.
I understand a problem might exist with MS versions, etc. -- so --
I don't know if these little tricks will help your situation, or not, but this is what works for me.
I Open a blank RGB Illustrator page and shift it over to the right on the monitor.
Then I Open the Excel file with the graph and shift it over to left on the monitor -- so I can see both pages, I select the Excel graph by clicking on it once, making sure that I have the outermost 'Excel selection handles (black squares) selected, then I verrry sloooowwly move the Excel graph over to the Illustrator page with my mouse. You DO need some patience on this step: it needs to be done slowly and when you get to the Illustrator page you must (still) hold the mouse there for a while, until it copies over. The more 'lines' in the Excel graph, of course, the longer it takes. approx. 10 seconds, or so, for lots of data.
Once over in Illustrator, I discard all the extra lines and 'retype' any Excel-rotated text. Excel seems to put rotated text in a bit-map piece -- with the real (unrotated) text included nearby as a copy. I find the good copy (a few steps) and redo it so it 'reads correctly,' and toss the 'icky-bitmap/pixelated-rotated-text-block' that came from Excel.
I was so frustrated when some Excel graphs just would not 'move over' to my blank Illustrator page. Excel graphs are given to me from a variety of clients: some would copy, some would not. I finally discovered the problem -- and -- it starts with Excel. The Excel-to-Illustrator step would fail IF patterns were used in the Excel graphs. Once I changed any/all Excel-pattern-fills to shades of gray one-by-one (or color, probably ? [not tested by me yet]), I could then move graphs over to Illustrator just fine. Other 'Excel properties' may cause copy-failure also, perhaps? Just look around at the graph in Excel: even a pattern in a key/legend may be the culprit that causes failure in the transfer/move.
