Exception looking up weblogic ejb from tomcat

i have a servlet in tomcat 4.0 doing a remote lookup on an ejb in
weblogic 6.1. the code works from a standalone client, but not in tomcat.
so i assume it is something to do with jaas. do i have to configure jaas
differently? and how?? i do not need to do anything with a standalone
client to work.
the code is
Properties p = new Properties();
p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://192.168.254.3:7001");
p.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "user");
p.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "password");
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(p);
the exception is

Did you try placing weblogic.jar in front of the classpath?
Or use WebLogic servlet container instead ;-)

    From poking around in the WebLogic server directories, in appears that
    the RSA-related classes are implemented as native methods in jsafe.dll.
    Should I be trying to install this dll in Tomcat somehow? If so, where
    should I be looking for information on how to do this?

    Ignore the exact problem description above. I wasn't including

    Connected successfully using http to JIMBO/172.16.1.4:7001
    But immediately after connecting, I get a new exception:

    getNameInNamespace isn't a method in any of my EJB's (that I wrote, at
    least - it could be generated by weblogic.ejbc), and it's not a method
    I'm calling directly. Presumably, something in the remote session bean
    creation is calling this method (of what class?)
    Am still I missing classpath entries in Tomcat? If so, which ones?
    If you've successfully referenced EJBs in a WebLogic Server from a
    Tomcat servlet, what setup changes did you have to make to Tomcat and
    WLS to make it fly?

  • How can one invoke a WebLogic EJB from a BPEL Server hosted on OC4J?

    How can one invoke a WebLogic EJB from a BPEL Server hosted on OC4J?
    Reason I ask is I keep getting this error:
    javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Cannot instantiate cla
    ss: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory [Root exception is java.lang.ClassNotF
    oundException: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory]
    Note: I am using <bpelx:exec> as a way to execute some java program.
    Essentially my java client (essentially an EJB client hosted on Oc4J) needs access to wlclient.jar since it needs access to weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory. I have a EJB client running on BPEL server hosted on Oc4J that needs to access some EJBs hosted on weblogic.
    Where do I place this wlclient.jar so that BPEL PM can start peacefully and at runtime discover the InitialContextFactory classes?
    Placing it in the j2ee/home/applib doesn't solve the problem. The server fails to start up if I do this
    I tried placing it in BPEL-INF\lib directory ...
    I still get the same exception...see below for exception dump
    I verified the BPEL suitcase, and it in fact does contain the jar file wlclient.jar
    integration\orabpel\domains\default\deploy contains the bpel_BPELProcess2_1.0.jar file and snapshot of that is as follows:
    <PRE>
    &#9474; bpel.xml
    &#9474; BPELProcess2.bpel

    &#9474; BPELProcess2.wsdl

    &#9474;
    &#9492;&#9472;&#9472;&#9472;output
    bpel_BPELProcess2_1.0.jar
    </PRE>
    I tried using the BPEL-INF\jar directory...Is this something the obant automatically detects? or do I have to modify the build.xml? I created this directory and let Jdev deploy to local BPEL server->default domain handle it
    #####################3
    I even tried copying the wlclient.jar to
    integration\orabpel\system\classes but this doesn't help since the BPEL PM fails to start if I explode this jar into this directory.
    In short,where do I place the wlclient.jar so that this exception can be contained.
    I edited the build.xml to point to the jar, that too didn't work, unless I made some mistake in the file
    <bpelc classpath="${basedir}/BPEL-INF/classes;${home}/system/classes;${home}/lib/j2ee_1.3.01.jar;${basedir}/BPEL-INF/jar/wlclient.jar" input="${basedir}/bpel.xml" rev="${rev}" deploy="${deploy}" />

    with the bpelx all I have is two lines of code that creates a java object and calls a method on it.
    The method does this:

        private String providerUrl = "t3://localhost:7001";
        private String urlPkgPrefixes = "";

        public String getDefaultMapName() {
          try {
              Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
              env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, getInitialContextFactory());
              env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, getProviderUrl());
              if (getUrlPkgPrefixes() != null && !getUrlPkgPrefixes().equals(""))
                  env.put(Context.URL_PKG_PREFIXES, getUrlPkgPrefixes());
              System.out.println("    " + getInitialContextFactory());
              System.out.println("    " + getProviderUrl());
              System.out.println("    " + getUrlPkgPrefixes());
              System.out.println("    " + getEjbName());
              // Get a naming context
              context = new InitialContext(env);
               Object ms  = context.lookup(getEjbName());
              MyEJBHome home = (MyEJBHome ) PortableRemoteObject.narrow(ms, MyEJBHome.class);
              myEjb = home.create();
              return myEjb.getDefaultName();
          } catch (RemoteException re){
              System.out.println(re.getCause().getMessage());
          catch (Exception ex) {
              ex.printStackTrace();
          return null; //if unable to resolve the context factory etc...
        }

    I did exactly as you suggested. I edited the application.xml and added this
    <library path="C:\ArcGIS\test\bea\wlclient.jar"/>
    I didn't add weblogic because the needed classes were all in wlclient.jar
    I also edited the BASE_OB_CLASSPATH to include this jar.
    Here is the result when I just start BPEL PM Server. Somehow BPEL PM doesn't like to have wlclient.jar in its classpath during startup.

  • Very Urgent !!! Exception in looking up Local EJB from Servlet in WSAD 5.1

    Hi,
    I have a servlet and a local EJB. The servlet and EJB are deployed on same application server but in different J2EE applications i.e. different EAR files.
    When I lookup an EJB with remote interfaces from servlet everything works fine. But when I try to lookup EJB with local interfaces from

    The ejb spec only defines local ejb access within the same application. It's possible some app servers support access from a different application but it wouldn't be portable, nor would it work within the J2EE SDK or Sun Java System App Servers. To access a local ejb from a web component or ejb , define an ejb-local-ref in the client component's standard .xml file (web.xml or ejb-jar.xml) and use the ejb-link element to specify the ejb-name of the target ejb.

  • Using Weblogic ACL from Tomcat in Servlet/SJP

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to use weblogic ACL from a servlet in a remote Servlet/JSP
    container (Tomcat). I've managed to log a user as decribed is the
    "examples.security.acl.Client exemple" but what i need now is to be able to
    get back the user group and/or permissions. Does anyone have done this
    before ? I've look in the Weblogic documentation center but I did not manage
    to found any exemple.
    Thank you in advance.
    Frederic

    Sorry, but I believe you are going to be limited to the information
    available through the JNDI interface and the interfaces of the EJB's that
    you deploy to the weblogic EJB container. The ACL information is intended
    for use only within the scope of the server environment. So, even though you
    are running as a Servlet/JSP you're running in the Tomcat container which is
    actually outside the weblogic Servlet/JSP or EJB container(s), in essance
    you're running under the same access limitiations as an EJB client app.
    BTW, you do realize that the weblogic 6.0 server does include a very nice
    Servlet/JSP container?

  • 'Class Cast Exception' while invoking a EJB from a Servlet

              Hi,
              I am working on J2EE applications.I am using Webgain studio and weblogic server.I
              got a problem while invoking EJB from the servlet.
              While calling an EJB from the servlet, it is giving that "Class Cast Exception".This
              is because, the remote home reference is not able to type casted to the"Home Interface"
              of the EJB, even if I type casted explicitly. It is creating the context and able
              to identify the EJB with the JNDI name.
              Could please help me in solving this problem.I am pasting the code here.
              Thanks in advance,
              Dharma
              public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
                   throws ServletException, IOException
                        resp.setContentType("text/html");
                        PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(resp.getOutputStream());
              try
              Context context=getInitialContext();
              Object reference=context.lookup("ArlProjContractorAppletSession");
              ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome home=(ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(reference,ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome.class);
              //Exception is occuring in the above statement. It is unable
              //to cast to the home interface
                        ArlProjContractorAppletSession the_ejb=null;
              try
              the_ejb=home.create();
              System.out.println("the_ejb = " + the_ejb.toString());
              catch(Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
              catch(Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
                        // to do: code goes here.
                        out.println("<HTML>");
                        out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Contractor TimeTracker</TITLE></HEAD>");
                        out.println("<BODY>");
                        // to do: your HTML goes here.
                        out.println("</BODY>");
                        out.println("</HTML>");
                        out.close();

              I came across this kind of problem once. My problem went away after I upgraded
              from 5.1 SP6 to 5.1 SP8.

  • Invoke a WebLogic EJB from a BPEL hosted on OC4J

    We are trying to invoke a simple Session EJB running on Weblogic 8.1.6 from a BPEL running on OC4J (10.1.3.4).
    but we constantly get NullPointerException :-(
    Could you please advise us (or point to a document) how to implement the invocation?
    (we are following the instructions in
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/bpel_cookbook/juric.html )
    (the invokation succeeds from a simple standalone client, meaning that the jndi names, credentials etc. are correct)
    thanx in advance

    maybe if I post the exception someone could help

    Hi,
    I didn't configure the JNDI stuff in WLS per se. I created a simple session bean and the meta data in the jar of this determined the JNDI setup.
    Once this is deployed on either WLS it can then be seen in Weblogic Console by clicking on View JNDI Tree. The full JNDI name is present and correct on both WLS to which it is deployed.
    Does that answer your questions or are you asking how I configured the SOA Suite composite? In which case I selected the EJB in the Partner Link swimlane. Viewed the properties and added
    java.naming.provider.url
    t3://myremotehost:7001

  • Help Needed: Accessing Weblogic EJB in Tomcat

    Hi all, I'm trying to access some EJB residing in weblogic7.0 server. Does anyone have any information/idea on how to do a JNDI connection to Weblogic Server and what are the necessary configuration on the Tomcat Server?
    Thank you.
    Celte

    Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
    ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "t3://"+appSrvIp+":7001");
    ht.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "user");
    ht.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "passsword");
    initCtx = new InitialContext(ht);
    You will need weblogic.jar in your Tomcat classpath

    Hi Jitu,
    I changed the wsdl. And so I dont get the warning anymore. My Webservice also runs well, now. Thanks anyway for the reply.
    There is a nice tech article on the sun network, which solved my problem. The basic idea is to split the wsdl into 2 wsdl documents. one containing all the porttypes messages and so on. And the other wsdl contains the binding and service elements.
    If you are interested check out this link:

    It seems that weblogic's JNDI is not support multi-thread call. what can i do?

    Try adding the following code before instantiating your initial context:
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader( ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader()
    This fixed the problem for me.

  • How to call Sun server from Tomcat

    Hi
    I have EJB running on SUN J2EE server on different machine. I want to access EJB from Tomcat running on my machine through JSP page.
    Properties p = new Properties();
    p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory");
         p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://remote_machine:3700#ejb/ConnEJBBean");
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(p);
    Object objRef = ctx.lookup("ejb/ConnEJBBean");
    %>
    objRef type is: <%=objRef.getClass().getName()%>
    <%
    // Do something with object reference...
    ConnEJBRemoteHome conEjbRemoteHome = (ConnEJBRemoteHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(objRef, ConnEJBRemoteHome.class);
    ConnEJBRemote myConEjb = conEjbRemoteHome.create();
    %>
    This call rerurn an object of com.sun.corba.se.internal.iiop.CDRInputStream_1_0$1
    althought I am expecting of conEjbRemoteHome Stub. Thus it throwas error on line:
    ConnEJBRemoteHome conEjbRemoteHome = (ConnEJBRemoteHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(objRef, ConnEJBRemoteHome.class);
    Which throuws an exception:

    Couple of suggestions. First double-check that you actually have the RMI-IIOP stubs. Which version of SUN Appserver are you using. With versions 8.x or later, there are no RMI-IIOP stubs generated by default. You'd need to explicitly request that they be generated during deployment of the ejb app ( e.g. by setting the --generatermistubs option when running asadmin deploy).
    Also double-check that the stubs are indeed visible within the classpath of your web application. The most common reason for the ClassCastException during PortableRemoteObject.narrow is that the stubs were not found.

  • Issues in looking up a ejb deployed on glassfish from tomcat.

    Hi all,
    I have followed the steps mentioned in the EJB FAQ in the glassfish site and was able to lookup a remote ejb deployed in glassfish from a standalone client.
    In case of standalone client, i set the appropriate jndi properties in the initial context as mentioned in the FAQ and added the 4 jars specified to the classpath of the application.
    It all worked perfectly well.
    But I attempted to do the same from a servlet running under tomcat.
    I set the appropriate jndi properties in the intial context and added 4 jars specified in the lib directory of the war file.
    But this did not turn out well and tomcat complained me with some servlet init errors.
    Then i searched through the web and found this posting from you:
    http://www.archivesat.com/GlassFish_Enterprise_JavaBeans_Developers/thread1399339.htm
    Then i created a folder called "shared/lib" under TOMCAT_HOME directory in my machine and ran the same example. Wow.....miraculously the application ran well.
    But i found that the "index.jsp" which i configured in the welcome file list does not appear now. But i was able to access the servlet without any problem. And the servlet was able to successfully lookup the ejb deployed in glassfish.
    Then i thought, let me try to access the ejb from a jsf application.
    Then i created a jsf application in netbeans 5.5.1 and tried to access the bean deployed in glassfish.
    (Note: the jsf application runs in tomcat 5.5.17 which is bundled with netbeans)
    OOPSS....
    Tomcat now complains me that it cannot compile the jsp page..
    This is the error i got...
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    Generated servlet error:
    C:\Documents and Settings\james\.netbeans\5.5.1\apache-tomcat-5.5.17_base\work\Catalina\localhost\CityExplorer-WebClient1\org\apache\jsp\index_jsp.java:7: org.apache.jsp.index_jsp is not abstract and does not override abstract method getDependants() in org.apache.jasper.runtime.JspSourceDependent

    Any ideas...
    Can you please help me.
    I've noticed that you were eagerly answering questions related to ejb lookup in many places.
    I feel there is some potential compatability issue between tomcat and glassfish...
    I request you to investigate on this and clarify the community with your response.
    Thanks in advance,
    James Selvakumar

    Thank you guys!
    I've found the answer myself.

    Each app server provides their own jndi factory class. For ex for weblogic it is weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory. SInce you are using sun app server, check if there are any examples to find out or the docs.
    private static String url="http://localhost:4848
    Since the client is in a different machine the localhost is not going to work here. provide the url or the machine name of the system in which ur sunapp server is running. In addition u will need to have the stubs of the remote interfaces in ur client machine.
